My wife and I went here for an anniversary brunch. We were seated promptly and ignored for the next 30 min. The service is complete trash. After 30 min when we were getting our stuff to leave, the waitress asks if we've been helped. I told her what happened and she said sorry. That's it, not "I'm so sorry, let me get you an appetizer or a round of drinks" I told her it was inexcusable and she said all she can do is say sorry. We were hungry so we stayed and gave it a chance. The pizza was paper thin and soggy with pesto oil. My wife's sandwich was completely the wrong order. We used to love this place, the service used to be amazing and the food was on point but, now apparently COVID has killed this restaurant and left a shell of what it was. Sad, very sad. I'm only writing this review because of my experience today ! I have been here many times and it's always great but I'm not really a "yelper". Anyway I loved the food and drinks as always , definitely a cool spot near my house to go enjoy brunch! I wanted to highlight the bartender Angelica !! She was truly a pleasure and made me feel like she not only cared about my needs as a customer but was like a friend ! Very personable and not afraid to be like a real person with awesome conversation and made me feel very welcome. The same could NOT be said for her relief , Ashley ? She was definitely unpleasant, and had such an attitude that it made me want to leave. She was not only rude to me , but to her co workers as well. Very unfortunate. ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END AND THIS IS ONE OF THEM. Farmers Table was a little jewel in East County, since there are no other places like it in the area. There is no gracious way of saying this, but the place is DIRTY. It is actually disgusting. The chairs are falling apart. The upholstery is ripped in all sorts of ways and is nasty: oily, grimy. I did not even want to sit on it. It is not just that the chairs have become old. The wooden blue part of them has not been wiped and disinfected in ages (see pictures). Then there is the glaring evidence that the place is not dusted daily (like any restaurant should) in the chandeliers. They are beyond dusty and cobwebbed, the grease on them has accumulated a few years of gunk. During my last visit there yesterday, all I could think about while I was eating is if this is the face they give to the public, I do not want to know what is happening in the kitchen. There is definitely no daily cleaning. Yuck. So that kind of ruined my meal. Not to mention this is the second time I visit that they do not have my menu choice available. What enrages me a little bit is that I am positive their Little Italy location does not look like this and makes me wonder if this is the standard for East County folk. At this point, I do not know how people keep coming back since the place is packed on the weekends. Are people blind? Do they not care? If I am going to pay this much for "gourmet" food, the experience is part of the price, so at minimum I expect the place to be neat and clean. Not going back. 020 / 100 - 2017 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. I've had my eye on Farmer's Table for a while now. I noticed that it had recently opened up a few months ago and have been DYING to try it ever since. Yesterday my co-workers and I finally had the opportunity to try it out. Wahoo! This restaurant is located in downtown La Mesa, so be prepared for metered parking if you are planning to take your car here. I don't remember if there is a parking lot or not, but there's plenty of metered parking. Unfortunately it does get quite busy during lunch, so you may have to park a bit away. Wear your walking shoes! We arrived around 12 and it was packed. The wait for a table was around 15~ or so min, but we could either sit at the bar or the large table (which you would end up sharing with other patrons). We opted for the large table. We were seated immediately and our server came to get our drink orders while letting us look over the menu. My co-workers were looking at the sandwiches while I looked at the brunch/breakfast section lol. I decided on buttermilk pancakes with some strawberries and cream (an additional $3). I also got a side order of fries. My co-workers thought my lunch was ridiculous and gave me a hard time about it lmao. I'm an adult and I can do what I want!! Food took a bit to come out (they wanted to have everything come out at the same time), but it wasn't a big deal as we just took that time to chat and take in the decor. I don't know what the interior was like before Farmer's Table arrived, but it seems like they've done a lot of changes. The interior was very rustic and quite beautiful - the ambiance (though loud) was great. Once the food arrived, we immediately dug in. The portions are HUGE. My co-workers got sandwiches, sides of fries, and there was definitely NO WAY they would've been able to finish it in one sitting. My pancakes looked deceptively little (as did my side of truffle fries), but I was definitely stuffed by the end of it. My truffle fries were cold when I ate them (may have been because I was busy talking/telling a story at the beginning... lol), but they were SO. DAMN. GOOD. ANYWAY. My pancakes were not as fluffy as I liked (tasted a little flat), but were still pretty decent. The strawberries were the best, imo, as they were tart without being overpowering. My co-workers really enjoyed their sandwiches and fries and had to take half of their sandwiches home due to the portions. Worth the price imo! Our server was very sweet and on top of everything: being there when we needed her, filling up our waters, getting our check and some to-go boxes, etc. Everyone we talked to there was very friendly and polite. We were early in the morning and were seated very quickly. Our table was one of those annoying, unbalanced ones where too much pressure on one side and you were spilling your water. Otherwise the ambiance was cute in a shabby chic, farmhouse-meets-industrial vibe that actually came together pretty well. Someone poured our waters and then someone else came up and asked if we were ready to order about 60 seconds later, not giving us anytime to really peruse the menu. We politely declined and then waited about 10 minutes longer for a third person to take our order. I ordered the Ragin' Cajun Bloody Mary and the Chile Relleno Omelette with the Arugula Truffle Oil Parmesan potatoes; my husband ordered the same but with an Irish Coffee. Our food was delivered to our table about 10 minutes later but we still didn't have our drinks, which is pretty poor timing on the restaurant's part. Still, we dug into our omelettes... the lack of flavor was shocking, especially because there were so many individually delicious ingredients that you'd expect it to be bursting with flavor. Teach those cooks how to season for crying out loud! Unfortunately, the opposite was true with the potatoes which seemed to be soaking in truffle oil to the detriment of any of the other ingredients. Finally, our drinks came - although the Bloody Mary gets an 8/10 on presentation, the same cannot be said for the taste. It was bloody awful. Someone went extremely heavy handed with the Worcestershire sauce and it was the only thing you could taste. Guess how nasty it is to drink Worcestershire sauce? My husband's Irish Coffee on the hand was boozy AF with very little coffee flavor. We'd have complained but we never saw the waiter again. Our water glasses were empty halfway through our meal and no one came by to refill, which was needed with those terrible and severely overpriced cocktails. No one stopped to ask us how our meals were. We sat there for 10 minutes trying to flag down someone to bring us our check so we could cut our losses and leave. Aside from the decor, there's nothing redeeming about this place. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I really love the atmosphere in this place. They have a quiet patio, with heaters and an outdoor portion to their bar. The food is upscale with a "comfort food" kind of vibe. I try to make it a point to try something different every time we're there, but I do have a few favorites. The short rib with green beans and polenta is so flavorful, and definitely one of the larger portions. Additionally, the staff is so friendly and helpful, and they have a thorough knowledge of the menu and what the kitchen can do to accommodate. read more

The service took FOREVER, starting with out bloody mary's, they tried to remedy it with extra accoutrement after they offered to serve us bloodys without the skewers (since they weren't ready), so...they were just sitting there for awhile. Additionally they didn't give me my blue cheese olives, and when I asked about it, they first questioned what drink I had and then said "oh we're out, I think" and actually they weren't. I decided to check out the new hot spot in downtown La Mesa. Did it live up to the hype?!? Yes and no. Let's start with the yes column: I decided to go with one of the specials for the evening and the Lobster ravioli did not disappoint! The pasta pillow of deliciousness was packed with lobster and the sauce had an airy texture that complemented the lobster beautifully it was sooo good I started dipping my bread in it!! Another favorite was the stuffed portobello mushroom. Seriously I almost ordered a second one. The Burrata cheese that comes on the grilled chicken flat bread was to die for!!! I have a special place in my heart for fresh burrata! Cheese board was ... beautiful with a ton of variety but it fell short. When I order a cheeseboard I need the cheese to be the prominent item on the plate. They did have four different cheeses however each piece was the size of a laughing cow wedge. WTH?!? If you are going to charge "Market Price" on your menu you better serve up some cheese at a decent portion. It was $18.00. I loved that they had figs, nuts, Grapefruit preserves, mustard and prosciutto. Just disappointed overall with the tiny pieces of cheese. Beet salad was just O...K... nothin to write home about and served with just a few tiny pieces of goat cheese. (Im starting to think this place is really cheap when it comes to offering cheese on dishes) A bartender with a friendly face asking if we need anything is NOT asking too much. First night I came in was after the dinner crowd and it was not busy. Total number of people at bar 4 including us! We sat down, bartender brought menu's then she disappeared. We waited 5 minutes and had to ask the hostess for help. She quickly pointed out that the guy at the far end of the bar was the other bartender he was knee deep in a conversation and never even looked over. If this was any other spot I would of left without ordering but La Mesa is limited with options later in the evening so we stayed. Skip the bar and get a table. The service is better. I'm so full!!! Delicious short ribs Benedict. I went there for waffles but there is only oreo or Nutella. A little much for me so my friend and I shared the Benedict and a fresh fruit platter. I wish I had taken a picture because it was beautiful! All fruit was bright and fresh. The short rib Benedict was tasty and the polenta was surprisingly tasty in place of English muffins. The only problem with the change is that there is nothing to sop up all the delicious egg yolk that runs everywhere when you cut the egg open. But the meat was savory! The potatoes were okay- a little dry. I had a Mexican themed Bloody Mary (I can't remember the name) and it was very, very tomatoey so I had them add another shot of vodka and I didn't eat any of the snacks with it so it ended up being a very expensive Bloody Mary that wasn't that delicious. My friend had an Irish coffee. Can't mess up Irish coffee. I just want to be sure I list everything we had so when I say that the total was a little over $80 for one breakfast entree that we shared and a fruit platter that we shared and the two alcoholic drinks. It was a $96 breakfast with tip. Yikes. But I do highly recommend getting the Benedict and the fruit. read more

We came for our anniversary and I can one hundred percent say that this restaurant is on par with some of the more upscale restaurants we have visited all over the country without feeling stuffy. I'm not one to ever go out of my way to leave reviews, but felt the need to this time. We recently went on vacation to San Diego to celebrate my mothers 60th birthday, so while there I searched up a few restaurants we could take her out celebrate, since we don't know many places around there. I chose to make reservations at this restaurant because it seemed like a cute place my mother would like and the food reviews were great. When we arrived, we were pretty excited because they had reserved a pretty private area with a large table with fit all of us, which were a big group of 14. When our server came out, he seemed pretty annoyed and snappy whenever we asked a question. And this was just for our drinks. When he left, I know we all sensed his mood but nobody said anything. I tried to be understanding, I know people have a bad day sometimes and plus our group was mainly kids, grandkids celebrating grandmas birthday. Our server took a looooong time, and when he handed us all our drinks, we realized the kids sprites were actually just seltzer water. When I mentioned it to the server, he seemed annoyed that I told him. He took even longer to come back the second time, only to tell us there was no more sprite. So he offered lemonade, which I said ok to because by this point the kids just wanted something to drink. The night only got worse as it went. Every time we asked questions about the food he would either point to the menu or would say they didn't have it anymore. He only came back a few times more before we left, and each time he did it took him forever. My mother did not complain whatsoever, she just tried to enjoy the night. But I definitely regretted having chosen this restaurant for her big day and not because of the food, which is why I'm giving it at least 2 stars. But because of our experience that night. I would've preferred giving him a lower tip than what he got, but it was already included in our check. read more

This place for me is a mixed bag. We went for breakfast. The prices were on the expensive side. There is limited parking. The factory design of the place with large metal vent hoses running across the ceiling is interesting. The place is packed and very popular. There is a view through thick glass into the kitchen. Service was good. The menu choice is limited and unconventional. There were only two items on the menu that appealed to me. I ordered the American breakfast which was an omelet toast and potates. The coffee was okay served in large mugs. When the breakfast came there was a lot of food. The home potatoes were crispy overcooked. The potatoes had good flavor and were large seasoned cubes that would have been better in smaller sliced portions. The Omelet was overly stuffed to the point of bulging with the same home potatoes as the side dish. Potatoes everywhere. There were so many cubed potatoes that the Omelet bulged up into a volcano shape. It made it so the potatoes overpowered the omelet making it hard to experience the omelet part of the dish. The omelet was stuffed with bacon and cheese. There is a saying, "less is more". The white toast had been toasted and let become cold when served. They served the square foil cubed butter with the toast. Because the toast was cold the butter would not melt into it. The food tasted good but overall because of the things I mentioned like over plating the potatoes and cold toast left me not enjoying my experience. My girlfriend ordered pita pizza and that tasted okay but the pita pizza was soggy. Not good overall. This is definitely a trendy place, but being trendy to me is not as important as enjoying my breakfast experience. If you are looking for a Trendy place with average food you will find it here. If you want better quality food try La Mesa Bistro. The food there is much better with more variety on menu choices and the food for everything I have tried is delicious. Let me start by saying I had written a review of Farmer's Table based on MY WIFE and her friends experience (My wife is not a computer person) that was NOT 5 starts, the restaurant contacted me and mailed my wife a gift certificate for her to experience them again, and WE DID! Unfortunately YELP privately contacted me advising I had written a review in the second person so they removed it INSTEAD of allowing the business and reviewer work it out and allow the reviewer to update the review showing WE CAN get along.. Enough said on that.. For todays lunch visit to Farmer's Table in La Mesa IT WAS AMAZING! From the moment we walked in, seated, greeted by staff which by the way knew my wife, daughter (who is a longtime server), the actual guy who waited on us, Marcos (I was told it was his first day which I would have NEVER guessed) made us very comfortable, friendly, not pushy, knowledgeable. The menu was a little confusing (for me) but Marcos guided me through it. My wife ordered the SAME sandwich she had on her first visit and it tasted (according to her) completely different. She had the Turkey which was wonderful, so large she took the 2nd half home (never made it she ate it later in the car, she loved it!) I had the steak sandwich suggested by Marcos, really enjoyed it, I also opted for the Rosemary Fries that my daughter could smell the "love" from across the table, SO GOOD! My daughter opted for the breakfast sandwich which was perfect, I'm sure folks understand we tasted each others selections just to see which was the best, All were perfect! During my wife's previous visit one of the main issues was the waiter, as you've already read our wait staff was stellar! But what I noticed was how all servers worked as a team and watched the patrons for any needs then filled them. There was clearly management in and around monitoring the activity but I like that. When my daughter was 16 she worked for San Filippo's so for her coming back to the building after spending so much of her Teen years there was a little sentimental. I pointed out that you can still see, completely upgraded of course, where the old kitchen was, where Don's the magic use to happen.. I want to thank Farmer's Table for their quick response to the previous post, for offering my wife the chance to experience your awesome restaurant (again), hard work, dedication and true professionalism. I'm a "Keep my La Mesa hometown quaint" I don't like or want high density development, I was born at the old Mt. Helix Hospital, raised here, attended school, live here, raised a family here and work here. I am a "La Mesian"! Farmer's table took a building that some of us consider "Hollowed Ground" and transformed it into a wonderful place keeping the legacy of customer service, great food with Charm for our community. This is a great place to come try something new and have delicious drinks. Their menu has some unique items that you probably won't find anywhere else and the food is fresh and tastes clean (nothing greasy or salty). Our waitress was super attentive and nice and the overall ambiance is relaxed with soft music in the background. The only reason its not getting a full 5 stars is the bruschetta was a bit hard to maneuver with such big toppings and the lamb shank was tender but lacked a lot of the flavor. Was there on a Tuesday afternoon, the least busy time and the service was horrible. We waited 45 minutes for our drinks. We were told repeatedly the bartender was new. That means nothing. We ordered our drinks and looked over our menus. Again, waiting with no drinks or waiter in sight. We finally see him greet another table and we waived him over. We asked him about our beers and he said he was by himself in that section and that buy the way they were out of pizza dough so if I wanted to change my order. Again, no apologies for finding out there was no pizza dough 20 minutes after we arrived. His whole attitude was rude and snobbish so I we left. I live just down the street from here and was dying to try to this place out because it always seems busy in the morning. My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday morning at about 10. There was only a wait because the hostess said they didn't have any menus. I thought it was a little strange, but hey, no big deal it only took like 5 minutes or so. We waited on the patio by the bar and wow they did such a good job decorating the place! It was so cute with all the beautiful plants they chose!! We got seated on the patio and got waters right away. Our server was adorable. I don't remember her telling us her name but she had the sweetest personality. I got an orange juice and my boyfriend got coffee and both tasted so good. The OJ tasted so fresh and tart, we were off to a great start. But boy, when we got our food! Wow it was just so pretty to look at, I had to take a picture and Instagram it! Lol. The Santa Fe omelette was delicious. It was so cheesy and there was just a right amount of toppings inside. The only tiny critique I would make is that the portion was on the smaller side. I'm pretty petite myself and can never finish breakfast dishes but I definitely finished that one and was still hungry. Good thing we also ordered the bonfire pancakes! I really want to give this place more starts, and let me be clear the reason I just can't give it 5 stars is because of the cost. The food was good, the service average and the ambiance crowded. Being back in town, my group of girls thought it would be fun to try someplace new for Girls Night. PRO: they take reservations, you'll need it! Everyone was very friendly and the decor was nice - everything you'd expect from a trendy, hip, farm-to-table place. This place is popular and they've tried to be creative with seating, just beware your comfort takes a hit. We were shown to a table, which was more a piece of wood atop a stand. For being only 5'5" I couldn't even get my legs under the table it was so shallow, my poor friends who are 5'6" - 5'8" were quite uncomfortable. Sitting sideways at a table was weird, but it was much better than the gentlemen who were seated behind us at a makeshift bar that overlooked another table. And by "behind" me I mean the poor guy apologized to me every couple of minutes because his seat touched mine and he constantly bumped me when trying to eat. The wine selection was good and the specialty cocktails were tasty. Rather than ordering a main entree for $$ we each ordered a couple small plates & sides. The portions were good, but the food wasn't anything special. Our poor little piece of wood could barely contain our plates, but we made do. The bill arrived and WOW! We all had sticker shock with what we were paying for what we'd received. Nothing was bad or wrong, but for each ordering a small salad and side or two sides with a drink we each shelled out around $60 before tip. We all agreed it was fine, nothing spectacular, but we'd probably try someplace else in the future.
