Part of our cruising around the bay involved casually finding the bistro where we need to meet for dinner later tonight. It's crazy what you bump into when you're not looking. After a couple of hours sight seeing, we took a wrong turn and ended up in this town and stumbled onto this beauty. It's like a new generation of Thai food for us. Not at all what we're used to or have ever tasted. It was great! A very intimate, joyous fellowship broke out with great friends and an even better atmosphere. Seating is outdoors only and you're surrounded by flowers and the very vegetables we were about to eat. Very surreal! I believe it's the first time I've ordered food and they literally grew it outside the eatery. It was all delicious and I highly recommend you get lost and stumble into them, yourself. I'm very disappointed with my visit and I had been wanting to try this spot out for the longest time!! Finally made it and they only do take out and cater to just make the food rather than providing at all any public service. No one greets you or offers assistance especially with how the online menu you would order on at this location. Even after waiting and calling out to the people preparing the food for help I still did not get what I ordered completely I was missing the blue rice which would have kept a star up but because I was denied what I asked what was pictured and even paid more since there was a lunch special and told if you want what is pictured on the menu order the dinner item Their online menu isn't updated so don't look at their website Their other locations are way better than this spot which is an express only with rude employees I definitely suggest the other locations in Oakland and Palo Alto Beautiful areas with great customer service and they present their food instead of getting missing items over priced take out only. It's probably closer to 3.5 but rounding up. Food is good but the quality/portion doesn't warrant the price. Got a pad see ew chicken (medium), hat yai chicken with rice, and the roti matabak. Flavor on pad see ew was good but there's more chicken than noodles and the chicken pieces are huge. Take note that "medium" here is closer to spicy elsewhere - hence why they say "Thai spicy" when you're ordering online. Hat yai chicken was basically just well fried chicken with sweet chili sauce and curry. The meat was super tender but it just wasn't worth the ~$25. Same story with the matabak - enjoyable app, but just not worth the ~$15 imo. I will give props to the curry it comes with though! read more

Farmhouse has been my go to birthday lunch for the last two years. I also have been ordering their wonderful lunch special since the start of covid. I have been mainly to their Jack London and Montclair locations so was excited to see they had another location in San Leandro. I found myself in the area so decided to stop by for lunch. I was hoping for cheaper prices since this location wasn't in the best of areas but alas. The quality of the food was on par with their other locations - excellent!! They offer more of a limited menu but it has all the major dishes. I was a bit disappointed by the roti, which was a little too flaky and buttery and the egg roll was pretty standard. Samosa was excellent as always. They also included a little salad with a sesame oil sauce, and included some nice veggies from their garden (sorel). I imagine this place would be a great place to be on a hot day with a cold drink. They also have a parking lot behind the building, which I took advantage of. The major problem I had with my experience however, was the fact that there were no plates or bowls. My very hot soup was served in a plastic to go container and my lunch was served on a weak plate that I later discovered melted the top layer of plate into my food (see photo). I also added shrimp to my pad thai and was given only 2 shrimp so will skip that next time. The food is excellent though, and when I go back I will bring my own bowl and plate or just take it home, which would be a shame as they have a lovely outdoor area. read more

A disappointed meal. Fried chicken pad thai was alright. The chicken is tasteless. The noodles were good. Fried pork belly was good. The sauce that came with was actually my fav out of all the food. Food portion on Pad See Ew and Pad Kee Mao was perfect and taste was amazing but.... Why lack on the mango sticky rice? Everything was good until I opened the box for the Mango sticky rice and was surprised it cost $10 for the 4 bite portion. The sticky rice was 2 inch high and it was maybe 2 strips of mango to ring around the rice with a teaspoon of coconut sauce.. Farmhouse came back? This is my third time back because of its cute outdoor setting- love that it is dog friendly. The ladies in the kitchen cooking in the hot heat were super sweet, they greeted us and thanked us for stopping by to have a good meal. Second time at Farmhouse Kitchen, first time at the Express in San Leandro. The outdoor seating is delightful, though the music was hit and miss, mostly miss. The pop music didn't match the atmosphere. We started with a Blue Margarita - Thai Chili infused Blanco Tequila, lime and cane juice. It was so tasty and had a marvelous kick! I could have had several, but stopped at one. Next the Neua Num Tok Roll - grilled Snake River Farm wagyu beef wrapped with mint, cilantro and cucumber in a cilantro lime vinaigrette. This appetizer was outstanding. The beef was tender and juicy. The cucumber and mint were excellent accompaniments. These were good! Main dish was Hat Yai Fried Chicken - southern style, fried Mary's chicken, turmeric and herbs, fried shallots, roti, potato yellow curry (for dipping the chicken), white rice, and a small cucumber salad. The chicken breading was crunchy. The chicken was moist. Dipped into the curry... Oh My! It was so good! And it was a LOT of food. I liked the roti, which was tender (like the beef) and tasty, but I opted to skip it and the rice. It was simply too much food. I did, however, devour the chicken and the curry. A little cup of a slightly sweet and acidic liquid was great with the cucumber salad and also good for dipping the chicken. So many delicious flavors from drinks to apps to mains. It's a bit pricey, but I knew this going in and accepted it. For the amount and flavor of the food - totally worth it. The staff was kind, informative and helpful. I've also taken my mom outdoor dining here, and the experience felt great (sanitary, tables spaced apart). Parking may be a bit of an issue in the residential area, but not wholly impossible. I had friends posting pictures of the Little Lao Table and i knew one day, I would need to try this place! There is nothing little about this huge tray of food! It is beautifully plated and decorated, with many bites of their different dishes to choose from. Everything looks and tastes delicious - from the bone in meat, the fried chicken, the 2 giant prawns sitting on top of fried rice, the fried egg on the pad thai... but the most enchanting was the blue rice. The only downside was that I didn't know what sauce or topping went with what. There were little containers in the tray but if you're not familiar with Laotian food, then you're just taking a shot. But whether you dip into sauce or not, the food was all very flavorful! I love that this table came with 2 glasses of Thai iced tea! We also ordered the crispy pork belly - which was very crispy! The dipping sauce it came with was like a party in your mouth! Salty, tangy, and spicy. We also ordered the Panang Curry with Beef but we didn't eat it tonight. My family of 4 barely ate the little table! We had leftover rice and noodles, and the panang curry will be sure to be delicious for dinner the next day. If so the first time i had Farmhouse Kitchen was precovid in Oakland and was pleasantly surprised there was a closer one in San Leandro. Hooray. So the best bang for your buck is the little lau set. for $60 we got the signature purple rice fresh rolls, samosa, papaya salad, steak, fried chicken, fied rice, pad thai, eggplant, roti with curry sauce, ribs, 2 iced teas, and a kidsmeal pad se ew. We do love their fried chicken here and on another day got their pad thai fried chicken for $20, a kids fried chicken and rice $10 (a lot for a kid), and mango sticky rice $14 - all still good but a few more bucks we could've gotten a little lau set. The chicken is the perfect crispy outside, tender meat inside, and all without being overly salted. Conflicted about what you might like? We ordered the Little Lao Table which is To Go only. It came with two Thai iced teas and optional kids meal (Pad See You). When we came home and opened it, it looked so beautiful. All sorts of beautiful colors. It's a great sampler of delicious Thai dishes. Everything had great flavor with a few of the dishes packing some heat. The heat wasn't overpowering. Good Thai food spot in San Leandro! I opted for their Premium Lunch Sets that comes with 2 appetizers, 1 entree and 1 soup. Ka Pow Chicken (Spicy Basil Chicken) was delicious with a side of rice. For appetizers, I choose the fried egg roll and crispy calamari. The Tom Yum soup was perfect. Also got the Tofu Pad Thai with a chicken wing and crispy calamari. Everything tasted delicious and was packed with flavor. Exactly what I was looking for and they definitely satisfied my cravings. I ordered over the phone and picked up the food to go. While waiting, I noticed they had a beautiful outdoor dining area, with tables and straw hut umbrellas. It was a very inviting environment and I can see the allure of dining out there. I'm sure this place is packed on the weekends for group or family meals. They also have a porch swing in the front. We were gifted a lao little table for Christmas. It did not disappoint! The presentation was one of the most beautiful arrangements I've seen. And the food was as delicious as it looks! Cost is $60, which is decent considering what you get. We loved the variety of the food sampling choices and every single dish was fresh, tasty, and amazing. Our favorite is the short rib, which was so incredibly tender. The roti with curry sauce was delicious. Samosas were the perfect flaky texture. My dad usually doesn't like chicken but loved the fried chicken, which was crunchy, moist and done perfectly as well. Spicy eggplant was tasty and spice bearable. Egg rolls were a little harder to chew and not really crispy. Pad Thai and kids pad see ew were a little bland and noodles a little stiff but still good. Blue rice was so pretty but tasted like plain white rice. Two free drinks was a very nice complement to the meal as well! We were so impressed that we returned back to get another Lao table on New Year's Eve! Unfortunately, everyone else had the same idea! Though everyone was social distanced outside for pick up at the outside window, there were so many orders that we waited nearly two hours from the original pick up time that was placed. I've been seeing the Little Laos set on my social media a lot and finally got to try it! The set is super aesthetic and pleasing for the eyes. I'd say the amount of food is enough for about 3-4 people. I like that you get a little bit of everything. At around $70, you're getting a good bang for your buck. Quality wise, I liked some items more than the others. My favorite was the roasted beef and fried chicken. The fried chicken was crispy and already well-seasoned, but you can elevate your experience by dipping it in the curry sauce (I thank my friend for this pro tip)! Least favorite was the carbs items (pad Thai, pad see ew, fried rice) - they weren't bad by all means, but definitely could have used more flavor. There was no meat in the pad Thai, just noodles with an egg on top. In case you're wondering, the blue rice tastes the same as normal white rice, but the color does make it prettier and more fitting for the gram haha. It is always great seeing more options opening up in SL.  So when I saw the sister restaurant to Jack London's Farmhouse Thai Kitchen open up in the old Padi's location on E. 14th, I was excited. They had transformed a portion into a cute outdoor seating area but because it was so hot that day, we opted for takeout which was easy peasy.  We called in the order for the Little Lao Set, headed over to their table set up outside, paid, sanitized our hands and received our Little Lao set tray with our 2 thai iced tea and was on our way.  It can easily feed 3 hearty eaters especially with the complimentary kid's pad see ew and I love how the tray is so beautifully presented which is a rarity these days with takeout.  With a little bit of everything, it was great being able to try so many different items so we can determine our favorites for full orders in the future.  Problem was everything was so good, I can't decide so looks like there will be another Little Lao Set in our future so I can get the best of all worlds. read more

I admit, I did get this place confused with the Farmhouse Kitchen restaurant in Oakland, so be sure you know which restaurant you're going to because the menu differs. We decided to go in for an early dinner at 4pm because reviews said 5-6pm is usually busy and we didn't make a reservation. I'm a big fan of fun restaurant themes and decor, so the tropical decorations for the outdoor seating was enjoyable to take pictures with. We ordered the Pad Thai with chicken, crab fried rice, and for dessert a Thai vacation. I forgot to ask for the peanuts on the side for my Pad Thai, but thankfully, the peanuts were already placed on the side of the plate and not infused with the noodles. I loved the Pad Thai and would definitely order again! Even after a few hours, the noodles were still good. The crab fried rice wasn't amazing, and a little bland, so I would pass on that the next time. The Thai Vacation for dessert was a must get for us because of all the pictures I've seen on Yelp. It had coconut ice cream, sticky rice, all inside a coconut with an umbrella to top it off. Parking is tough in the area because there is construction and of course the outdoor seating is part of the parking lot. Ordered the Little Lao set, and little is an understatement. This feeds four and all different flavors for everyone. The biggest surprise was the blue rice. So this order included beef rendang, with a mild to medium heat, the meat is so tender if falls off the bone. Then there is the curry dipping sauce and the thin roti bread, a great combination. Welp, for a family of four family pack, it took two people three meals to finish this and was a bit rough on my diet, but well worth it. The former parking lot became an outdoor dining venue. You must pass the temperature check before you pass the guard tower, else the picnic benches are spaced apart and umbrellas to give you some shade. I found out afterwards this is related to the Jack London Square Farmhouse Thai! I found out about the San Leandro location from a friend that lives near by and he tried it first for Mother's day. They ordered a few of Little Lao Table (meat and vegetarian options) and a dozen Thai teas (thank goodness) The thai tea was amazing! I had two of them :) it wasn't too sweet, just the right amount of sweetness for me. Pad Thai - wasn't the best Thai I've ever had, IMO it wasn't that flavorful. I went to the Oakland location once pre pandemic and grabbed takeout from the San Leandro location. To celebrate my birthday, I ordered two little lao trays and one vegan little lao tray. The food was ready and came with the free thai teas. The staff were very kind in helping move it all into my car. It fed my family and overall, the aesthetics are beautiful and very instagram-worthy. But when we ask to order the LLT, the server says it's $99. What? W were just here last month and it was $60, how did that jump happen. He says the to-go order is $60 but dine in is now $100. He also says that's how it's always been but we correct him that we were here less than a month a go and it was just $60 then. Anyway, since our friends were already there we still ordered it begrudgingly and it was still good. But one star deduction for the huge price increase which doesn't seem justified at all! I decided to give Farmhouse Thai Express a second chance by ordering through Uber Eats for delivery. I ordered one chicken panang curry and one jasmine rice, my total came out to $20, plus all extra Uber Eats charges. Sadly I was disappointed again in the quality of food from this location. Firstly, the potion of panang curry was very large (yay) but the top bit was covered in oil, and as you dip in to scoop out the curry all of the food gets covered in thick oil. Second, my rice was unbelievably old. I guarantee that the rice was not even cooked today. It was very hard, clumpy, the color was not right, and it didn't smell fresh. Third, the box of rice was less than half the size of the curry, very poor portioning on the rice to curry ratio. I will say, however, that the panang curry was pretty good, it was very spicy and had plenty of chicken and vegetables. Who else here has Tik Tok taking you to places you would've never thought of going to before? So even before Covid Times I was never one to explore past the Peninsula. But this Tik Tok Gem was calling to me. Let me tell you, you have to try this place! The food here is unbelievable and you can tell by the quality of the ingredients they use. Very fresh and flavorful! The crispy texture of the fried chicken is only enhanced further when dipped into the delicious yellow curry that it comes with. The chicken alone is worth the trip! I also tried their crispy pork belly which is supposedly available only for a limited time. The only thing I somewhat regret is that when ordering the pork belly, grubhub asks you what side you want with it and I got an order of pad Thai. Like a rookie I ordered an additional order of pad Thai just in case the wifey wanted some and I didn't want to share. Now don't get me wrong, the pad Thai was yummy, but I think I just had an overload as you can tell by the pictures. The fried rice was tasty but I was expecting more of an oomph because of the wagyu beef. Unfortunately we got there fairly late so we didn't get to eat there. Pros: - Nice Vibes for outdoor seating - displays for IGs Cons: - higher price range for a very casual dining (this meal was about $90ish or maybe more including tips) - limited parking (not easy to find parking) - the food is typical Thai food. I ordered the Little Lao Set for my family and the food was amazing! This would have been 5 stars, except for the hiccup during pick-up. I ordered online on their website a few days prior to pick up and set the time for 12:30 PM. Upon arrival, the worker was confused and my order was not ready. I showed them the email receipt and they looked confused. After going back and forth a few times, they finally told me my order is being made. When it was done, the time was 1:10 PM, 40 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time. That was frustrating, but I guess sometimes hiccups happen. My family and I were very impressed with the presentation and variety of the platter. My favorite was the fried chicken, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
