Ok - hear me out. This place is so strange because it's more of a grab and go place INSIDE of Castro Village Bowl. But we got the pad see ew and the fried rice here with a drink (total $44) because we were starving and didn't have time for dinner before meeting up with a friend group to bowl - and I was pleasantly surprised at the value of what we got?? Pros: - The 2 dishes we ordered, came with HUGE portions - I was so surprised because I expected it to be overpriced (since it's inside the bowling alley and the place also services bar food/fried food fitting for a bowling alley) - Tasted pretty good honestly! not bad. it didn't hold up well later in the night or the next day, but not terrible. - decent amount of veggies and meat in the pad see ew! - Pretty quick service, food came out in less than 10 mins, and they gave us a buzzer so we knew when the food was ready Cons: - obviously service can be a bit hit or miss, but it's a bowling alley, so set your expectations accordingly Overall, I wouldn't come out of my way to eat here - but it is refreshing to not only be stuck eating fried bar food at the alley

I had seen reviews and they made me curious about Thai & Lao food served in this bowling alley. They also serve traditional bowling alley fare as well. But for the adventure I need to find out for myself for all the hype. I narrowed down my order to Pad See Ew Chicken and Thai Ice Tea. I made it to a "to go" order. It was packaged well. Having it a home was probably choice than the bowling alley for obvious reasons. I wanted to be overwhelmed by the food but found it to less than I can get at local Thai restaurants in town. I guess I had high hopes. The Thai ice tea is what you ordinarily expect. Also, the dish prices are slightly higher than those in town. So if you're bowling and crave for Thai & Lao food look no further.

My family and I came by not really expecting much from this place. We were excited to try some of the lao dishes we grew up with and were pleasantly surprised with quick service, good food, and a fun environment. We ordered the angel wings, beef jerky, lao sausage, papaya, and khao piek. All were made fresh and quick. A solid pick if you want to impress some friends with well made lao food from a small cafe in the back of a bowling alley. Would definitely revisit this place!

If you're craving lao food and don't want to venture to far out of the Hayward/Castro valley area, this spot is hidden inside the Castro valley bowling alley. Got the Lao sausage 7.5/10 Papaya salad 8/10 Really enjoyed my meal

Deep Fried Spare Rib with Special Sauce My FAVORITE dish. I order it to go usually after I am done bowling as I need some good food to absorb all the alcohol I consumed. I can't tell you how much I love this dish. I look forward to taking it home every time I bowl. Other things I've tried and love: CHICKEN WING EGG ROLLS LADY FINGERS BEEF SALAD FRIED WONTONS LAO SAUSAGE PAPAYA SALAD Try the Asian menu. You will not be disappointed.

Longevity in the restaurant business is tough so when looking for a place to add to my takeout list as a new resident to Castro Valley, I had to give this place a try. I have been in Castro Valley for about 7 months now and have gotten take out from here at least 5 times and every single time, my wife and I have been greeted and treated with love by the owners. Were there a few times where I had to wait a little while longer because of how busy they were or issues in the kitchen? Of course yes, stuff like that happens. I am a patient and understanding person. What is always consistent is the warmth that the owner just seems to emit, it must be the Thai culture and personality as having traveled to Thailand more than a handful of times, I felt the the love from the people. Now for the food. We usually order pad see eww, crab fried rice, angel wings and a few currys. The food always comes super hot and delicious, havent had a bad experience yet with the food. Honestly, what keeps me coming back is the lady that runs the place, I adore her and the love she treats people with.

The server was really sweet, but I just don't see myself coming back for a third time because the food is just very mediocre to me.

Integrated into downtown Hayward just a block from the theater and other eateries and drink spots, Khao Hom has made a strong impression in the local community drawing a good following for weekend brunch as well as weekday lunch. With street parking right in front as well as sharing free public parking in the lot behind the restaurant, once you've slogged through traffic to get to this area, you'll be able to easily park and venture in for your food experience. As you enter, you'll likely need to wait for one of their staff members to seat you in one of their two dining spaces. The rooms are well lit and enhance the ambiance of your meal (and photos) with natural lighting. When seated, you'll get their food and drinks menu in addition to finding their dessert menu at the table. As standard, each table gets a carafe of water for you to serve yourselves. Their menu is quite extensive in representing popular Thai flavors with a bit of flare. You'll find curries, soups, noodles and chef specialties in their own sections of the menu. They also have some alcohol infused drinks for those looking for a full brunch experience. As a novice to some Thai dishes, I did have to ask the staff to explain a bit about certain dishes, but there were a few that caught my eye and never let go. Thai tea - flavorful and bold; rich but not too sweet Matcha latte - rich matcha flavor and creamy; best sipped and can be packed in a to-go cup if you don't finish Tom yum crab omelet - beautifully crafted omurice-esque dish where you'll find white rice encased in an egg omelet topped with succulent pieces of crab meat and smothered in tom yum soup. This dish is not only a pleasure to look at but the taste and textures in each bite will have you salivating for more until the dish completely disappears. This unique take is a must get for first timers! Roti gai tod - crispy fried yet succulent chicken served with a small serving of creamy yellow curry, white rice, and a roti alongside their delicious chili sauce. Fantastic balance of textures and flavors will have your tongue dancing from the spices. Tom kha soup - a bowl of comfort with a whole lot of shredded chicken, red onions, and mushrooms with a few big quarters of fresh tomatoes. It's not as creamy as I would like but the flavor is there with its abundance in lemongrass. The portion is large as one order can easily split into two bowls. Fried ice cream - a meal topper and sweet indulgence for those looking to try something new and rarely found elsewhere. This giant meteorite of a breaded and fried ball of vanilla ice cream is topped with chocolate fudge, powdered sugar, a generous helping of whipped cream and plenty of fruit (strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, grapes, and cantaloupe). Definitely shareable and a surprising star of their dessert menu - they could definitely do more to advertise this! The staff were super friendly and quick to take dirty dishes out of the way. They kept the place clean, served the food promptly and treated all of their customers with respect and smiles. Top notch crew from the front of the house to the back. Furthermore, should you need the restrooms, they do have two gender neutral rooms that were decently maintained. Overall, Khao Hom is not your everyday Thai restaurant nor is it your run of the mill brunch spot - this is a unique experience with food created out of passion to merge these together. The result is an aesthetically pleasing yet hunger extinguishing meal that will have you discovering new flavors and craving for more. With its proximity to the city center, it's a great a spot to plan out a lunch or brunch before a nice stroll around or a movie. Thai food has never looked and tasted so good!

I may be critiquing them harder than others on their papaya salad and Nam Khao because my mom does it best (no bias...). However, their portions are large and the flavors are great all around. I think they do some items better than others, but I have yet to be disappointed by any of their food. It's always great to try something new on the menu and be pleasantly surprised. But aside from the food, the customer service and ambiance encourages us to come back every time. They're kind, patient, and attentive all around. Whether we're just picking up food, dining in at peak times or during the quiet hours, they always deliver a great experience. Unfortunately, on our way home we realized we forgot the to-go bag with all the leftover food at the restaurant. I immediately called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. I was told they had already thrown the bag away because they waited for a while and were preparing to close. I returned to the restaurant around 8:45 PM to ask about it in person. I spoke with one waitress who said there was no manager available. Another waitress came over and I explained the situation again. She said there was nothing they could do, and the conversation became unpleasant. When I expressed my frustration, she told me to go ahead and contact a lawyer and then told me to leave the store.
