Fantastic bowl of soup most pho places these days are an absolute minus -0. I've made pho at home total cost per bowl maybe $2 the noodles don't cost anything the tiny bit of scrap meat they throw on the soup is is less than nothing and of course a few bean sprouts oh yeah and half a meatball well a meatball cut in half does that count as 2 that's what you get these days and they charge you 20 bucks so as far as I'm concerned pho restaurants are all rip offs except for house of pho this is probably the one place in the area that still puts on a half decent bowl of soup. The pho here is delicious but the true star is the Fish and Pork special combo! Making your own rolls and dipping it in chili sauce and fish sauce is the best combination of flavors! It's a cozy restaurant with extremely friendly staff. I've tried many different dishes and they consistently met my expectations or exceeded them. Came for lunch and had the turmeric fish. Everything was super fresh and tasty. The portion was large, and the greens were super fresh and beautiful. We added the rice paper to make our rolls, and the server asked if we needed them, so I assume they are not included but they are NECESSARY! I ordered the hu tiu, but unfortunately the broth was quite bland and lacked the rich, distinctive flavor that I would expect from a good bowl of hu tiu. The biggest concern, however, was the meat--it had an off smell that made me uncomfortable eating it. I ended up finishing only about one-third of the bowl before deciding to leave the rest. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I believe honest feedback helps restaurants improve. I sincerely hope the restaurant pays more attention to food quality and consistency, especially the freshness of the ingredients and the flavor of the broth. I recently moved to the East Bay and was surprised when I saw there was a House of Pho. I've been to their Sunnyvale location multiple times when I lived in the South Bay. I ordered the goi cuon (fresh spring rolls) and bun rieu (crab noodle soup). Their spring rolls are okay, and their peanut sauce can use some work. Their peanut sauce has too much hoisin sauce in it. It needs more peanut butter flavor to balance it out. The bun rieu had pork spare ribs, cha lua (pork meatloaf), and crab meatballs. All the toppings were delicious and typically what I love in my bun rieu. However, the broth is terrible. I saw another review that said it's very tomatoey, but I still wanted to try it. The broth tasted like tomato bouillon. It's supposed to taste more like pork broth with tomato flavor as the background. The broth made the whole noodle soup terrible despite the toppings being great. read more

Tried another pho spot in the east bay on our quest to find solid options after being spoiled with South Bay pho options for many years. I ordered Hu Tieu which is pho-like and comes with chicken slices, fish balls, squid and shrimp. The broth was decent, nothing to write home about honestly. The proteins in the soup were pretty good, nothing rubbery which sometimes happens with chicken. Noodles were on the Al dente side, so I had to let them soak a little before they had a texture I like. Spring rolls were a miss for me. Were a bit dry and not fresh tasting. We got rice plates, a Vietnamese iced coffee, and an avocado smoothie with tapioca pearls, I have also tried their spring rolls and pho in the past, which are also very tasty! It is located at the corner of A St and Hesperian Blvd. There's a lot of parking and if you can't find one in front of the place, there's parking only within walking distance The place is very clean and the service is fast. I ordered the combination beef pho. If you order a large size, you can take home almost half of it since it's a big bowl just for one person. There's a lot of meat and slices of tripe in this bowl. The rice noodles are good and the beef broth is delicious. If you want it spicy, you can add one of their spicy sauce or a slice of jalapeno. My group of three ordered the combination pho, meatball pho, and fried shrimp cake. Sad to say it was quite abysmal compared to pho seven down the street. The broth tasted a little salty and too much of the star anise. The fried shrimp cake was not crispy enough. The tables also felt a little dirty, even though they were wiped down maybe it's the material of the table top. I definitely will not be returning. If you haven't, I suggest you try pho seven. The broth to me is comparable to San Jose pho shops. The broth is not too heavy on star anise and has a little bit of fat which tastes more rich. read more

Decided to stop by today and try out this place in Hayward. With the cold weather outside I figured I'd get some Phó. For being New Year's Eve I would expect the place to be a little empty but there were plenty of people. Good sign! I decided to get the vegetarian pho, I got the large bowl and the broth was OK, not too salty, plenty of veggies. However, did lack a little flavor in my opinion. The staff is friendly they're pretty quick to come to the table and take my order. Phó usually doesn't take that long once you order to get so it was fairly quick. They did stop by once or twice I believe to ask me if everything was okay or if I needed anything else so that was nice. The also have a big Buddha statue at the front counter right next to the register. What a perfect day to visit this place and rub the Buddha since that helps attract wealth health and good fortune I believe which is something we all need. Been coming here for a few years now. The service here is very quick! When you walk in, they normally seat you immediately, by pointing to some free tables for you to choose from. They have lots of tables which makes it so there is rarely a wait. Their menu is extensive. I usually order the pho or the grilled pork and shrimp with rice. The meat and rice also comes with a small salad and a small bowl of broth. The food is always flavorful and gives you the feeling of a home cooked meal. My son used to work near here and this was his favorite lunch spot. He is in town visiting and while driving by good old Hayward on the way to a family event we had lunch there. Service was good, food came out very fast although it was surprisingly busy for a Saturday afternoon. We shared the large 27 and it was a very generous serving with lots of beef and plenty of noodles. I was surprised by the fresh cucumbers in the soup, but that was very nice compliment along with the fresh mint and other accompaniments. The broth was very different flavor profile that I have ever had, you tasted the peanuts for sure and it was rich, flavorful and spicy. I enjoyed that soup very much and the spring rolls were fresh, crispy veggies inside and excellent peanut sauce, nice and creamy.
