As I go through the list all of a sudden she stops me and says "we don't service Oceanside" I said wait a minute, I told you upfront that we lived in Oceanside, what gives?". She just kept repeating that they don't service Oceanside. If you don't service a certain town or area, I'm fine with that. What I'm not fine with is a person wasting my time, having me go through all the services I need and then telling me at the end of the phone call "oh by the way, we won't service you" when I was already assured earlier in the conversation that they would service me. And the last time I checked, Oceanside was included in NORTH County. Horrible, just plain horrible customer service and I am equal parts angry and disappointed.

We have American Home Shield Warranty and they assigned 1st Response to assist us. I called them around 10 am today. They wanted to come out on Thursday, 4 days later. I explained our situation and that going without water for 4 days would be impossible. Her solution, just keep turning the main on/off as needed. I said that is not possible. She said she would try and get someone out there today. Around noon, we got a call that someone would come by between 2-5. Fantastic!!! I had explained to them that I have a block on my phone and to please have their guys text me, because the call won't come through. Around 3:15, I see I have a voicemail, it's the plumber saying. Hey, Im here in front and can't get a hold of you. As I'm reading this, the doorbell rings. (new concept, I know) My husband answered the door immediately and out they went. This guy Charles ,was rude, very unprofessional and had the empathy of a rock. He couldn't care less that we didn't have water all day, or anything. He did find a way to isolate that pipe, so that we could turn on the main again. He looked at and told us what he would do, then left. Yup, no fixing it today, he just wanted to take a sneak peak and see what it was and off he went. An hour later we received an estimate, $500 to repair and wait for it, $300 extra if we wanted him to backfill the hole. The hole that was in soft dirt in our garden that was at the most 10" deep. WTAF!!! I was on the phone with AHS, immediately. Turns out they denied our claim (that's another horror story). We rejected the estimate and told them, not to worry, we would have our own plumber come fix the "$500 + $300" pipe issue. Our plumber came and fixed (we didn't do this earlier because it voids our warranty), and the parts cost us $10. Being that he is a friend, he didn't charge us. A $10 fix, unbelievable. Guess which company we won't ever be using in the future. What a way to make sure you never have a loyal customer.

Here is the whole story: I originally installed solar 9 years ago and recently my solar panels hadn't produced as much as they used to. I requested several quotes and had 3 top contenders. Family first rang me up and I immediately had a gut feeling that they were the ones for the job. I bought an Enphase Envoy metered S and a Combiner Box 4 that I purchased directly from Enphase. What does this mean? Basically, I lost the ability to monitor my solar panels and needed to see if they are producing what they should and feeding back into the grid. My last SDGE electric bill was $590 which was totally ridiculous since I have over 20 solar panels on my roof. Anyways, back to family first, I spoke with Anthony and he was very receptive, called me back to answer my questions, told me what to purchase from Enphase. So , gave him my verbal agreement, he asked for several photos and videos, in which I sent. I spoke to him , had a clear plan of what the job will take, even had a group call with the actual service technician. Appointment made. I took the day off so that I can be on site and get educated and informed in case something was wrong with my panels. Less than 12 hours before they were supposed to show up (the night before), Anthony's technician called me. He said he needed to cancel because he will need a "whole crew" to do this job". I was livid. I explained to him that he made the appointment, was on the group call with me and Anthony, and that he knew what the job needed. I had taken a vacation day from work to be home for the job. But he proceeded to give me excuses how he did not know that the job needed a whole crew. I tried calling Anthony, and my call went straight to voicemail. He called me back and ended up dropping the call. Pretty bummed at the situation, my gut feeling was to cancel the job and hire someone else. I ended up hiring a local company (I posted a review about them). It only took 1 technician and 1 apprentice to do the job. It took them 3 hours to get the install completed. I am glad that I did not have "Family First Solar" do the job. I felt as if they were trying to upsell me on my repair. Instead I hired an actual electrical company who had been around for over 20 years. Bottom line, say what you mean, mean what you say. I don't like to flake on people. If you've made an appointment, keep it. I've learned so much during this process. I'm hoping that by sharing my experience, you can learn as well. In response to Anthony's comments: Yes I sent a video on Wednesday2/14/24 , 2 days prior to the appointment. However, I sent several photos and videos a week prior 2/8/24 via email to Anthony clarifying the project. And ....we had a phone conference call with David and Anthony on the phone detailing the project. Bottom line is: The communication breakdown was not from me, the customer. I did not add any new tasks to the job. I had been discussing the details a week prior. Anyways, the other company I hired did the job in half a day with 1 electrician and 1 apprentice. I guess we can sum up this review as a breakdown in communication and not the job itself. I'll add a star for Anthony's diligence. However, owning up to a mistake and showing extreme ownership is another trait that I would have fully respected.

He also recommended a better furnace/AC filter, which we purchased from Home Depot. Steve also installed a new digital thermostat, which blows my old one out of the park. It's a huge upgrade. I would definitely recommend Steve for any AC or heating problems, especially if you're in the Chula Vista area, as he now only takes jobs in Chula Vista. Steve has over 40 years of experience, so he clearly knows what he's doing. He arrived with all the necessary tools and equipment and completed the entire job in about three hours.
