We purchased our first home, with hardwood floors that had been buried under gross carpet for at least 30 years, and we had no idea what the floor would look like underneath. Before we even had the carpet removed, I reached out to Farrell for a quote and a rundown of the process. He was impressively prompt, thorough, and responsive. I was worried that he wouldn't be able to squeeze us in, but he was able to accommodate our project dates without a problem. After the carpets were removed, Farrell did a walkthrough with us where he explained the state of the floor in each room and what would be possible/practical and I immediately found him trustworthy because he was so meticulous and forthright. Farrell was transparent and conscious of our cost considerations, and he checked in with us regularly throughout the project. The floor was damaged from being under the carpet and needed some repairs, and he was very helpful in giving his advice on which repairs were essential versus optional/cosmetic. As the project evolved, he offered cost-saving alternatives where appropriate and was always updating us on the total cost of the project. On June 9, 2022 I wrote a review the last sentence of which was "Farrell is a "wood floor artisan" with a strong work ethic. Honest, friendly and trustworthy. You can't go wrong with Mr. Wills." He has done work a couple of times for us and my sister-in-law's approximately 5,000 sq/ft home in Hillsborough, CA. Mr. Wills and I are not relatives and my review may have praised him more than others. But after owning 5 homes in my 76 years on earth, I stand by the quote above. Farrell and his team came to correct a poor re-finishing job that another (unnamed) contractor had performed a few years ago. The previous contractor had left many nail holes only partially filled, which proceeded to turn black. Farrell set all the nails properly and filled them with the correct filler. He sanded and refinished some already worn patches, and re-coated the whole floor with 2 new layers of Bona Traffic finish to provide a great looking and long lasting floor. Farrell was extremely knowledgeable and clearly communicated various options and expectations that could be expected on the refinishing of an original 75 year old floor. He tested spots of various sealer and sheen options for us, and made sure we were all on board. The work was done quickly, efficiently, and very cleanly. We are thrilled with the results! I almost didn't go with Farrell because I mis-estimated the square footage of the space to refinish, and thus his initial quote was far above other well-rated vendors. But when he came onsite - and I appreciated his willingness to give a bid on Sunday given my tight timeline to finalize the remodeling work - he gave a more accurate (and competitive) bid, and I ultimately went with him. Good communicator, he says what he will do, and does what he says. He and his crew did an excellent job - the floors, now over 100 years old, look absolutely beautiful. He was flexible in the timing to work around the painting crew, doing most of the work before they started but leaving the final coat / touchup until after they finished. We bought a 100 year old home with old oak floors that had been under carpet for 30+ years. There was water damage, and most floor people said we had to replace everything. Farrell gave us a lot of information and how much staining he could reduce. He replaced a minimum amount of flooring and delivered floors that are better than he estimated. I did my research on refinishing red oak floors in a 100 year old craftsman home. Ferrell Wills knows what he is doing, and most importantly, does the work himself . He also has an artistic sense to blend the newly finished floors with the old floors. His repair of a water damaged part of the floor is masterfully matched. Farrell Wills is a craftsman. He has been taking care of my wood floors for years. He refinished my living room in 1985. In 1997, he installed a wood floor in my kitchen. Since we wanted to match the unusual plank style of the living room, he shopped for the appropriate wood and had it milled. The floor is beautiful and has stood up well. He refurbished it a couple times, sanding and recoating it when needed. Recently, I wanted to replace the carpet in my entrance with wood, which is much easier to keep clean. Again, we wanted planks which would harmonize with the other floors. Farrell shopped until he dropped and finally found a pre-finished maple. I had not used pre-finished wood before and was a little skeptical; we had numerous email conversations about the choice. Farrell did an excellent job refinishing hardwood floors in my 80 year old house, including original parquet, plank, and stairway treads. He was extremely responsive flexible in coming up with an estimate that fit my budget and timeline. Refinishing floors is way more complicated than I expected at the beginning of the project, and he had great ideas on how to get it done, including how to move furniture around, matching colors/stains to parts of the house I was not touching, and how long everything would take from start to being able to walk on the floors and replace furniture. And he was able to work around other people doing work in various parts of my house without any issues - including someone painting my front porch and main entry to the house.
