They wiped down every piece of equipment after me and had me wash my hands 3 different times during my visit. I was most impressed with Adam, the optician. I went for an eye exam and new glasses because they had a Living Social deal for a free exam and like $150 off the frames. What they don't tell you is they run a test for glaucoma that the deal does not cover. It was $25. They had a good selection of frames, I am very happy with my new look. The people were helpful and took the time to make sure you were happy with your pic. The optometrist was professional and knowledgeable. It was about 2 weeks until I got to pick up my new frames. They made sure they fit well. I doubt I would have gone without the deal, but it wasn't a bad experience. read more

What a difference a year makes. Last year, I gushed about Fashion Eye Center. This year, I wish I could give them negative stars. Let me start out by saying that today is 11/26/12, and I had my initial eye exam on 9/19/12. I still do not have my final pair of glasses. It started out when I went to the doctor, feeling a little pain in my eye. I was pretty sure I hurt it sleeping funny (yes, I sleep like a fool). I told the doctor, he insisted that this wouldn't change my vision, and went on with the exam. I was very uncomfortable with this, but I figured, if the exam came out wrong, then they'd just have to make good on it. So, I finished up, chose my frames, paid, and left. About two weeks later, I still had no phone call that my glasses were in, so I called them to check. Yep, they had been there, but no one had gotten around to call me. Ooook. So I went in to pick them up. As soon as I put them on, I couldn't even open my eyes with them on! I felt like the ground was up my nose, they were far too strong! The technician thought it was just because the script was new. I said I doubt that, but she wanted me to wear them for a week before a re-exam. I agreed with no intent on keeping those glasses on my face for so much as a second. You just know when things are bad for you, and these were bad. A week later, I came in for my re-exam. The doctor found that, yes, my eye was no where near as bad as it seemed during my first exam. In fact, it was drastically different, and that maybe I was correct in assuming that my eye was slightly injured that day. I gave them back my frames, and they sent them off to put my new lenses in. Two weeks later, again with no phone call, I called them to find that my glasses were in. So, I went in to get them. They seemed pretty good, but when I went to clean them, the lenses were loose in the frame, and one almost popped out. So I went back in to have them tightened up. No big deal, so I thought. Boy, was I wrong. One technician heated my frames, making them too small to get the lenses in. Instead of heating the frame again, she forced the lenses in, scraping one all the way across it. BUT WAIT! It gets better! Not only did she ruin the lenses, but she also warped the entire frame trying to stuff the lenses into it! You could see a big gap between the frame and the lenses! The plastic frame was bent out of shape and wavy looking. How does this place employ someone that didn't realize that this was a huge issue?! She sent me home with these! Luckily, I noticed the issues before too long. At this point, though, I was done with the subpar technicians, and asked for a manager. New lenses came in, which the manager put into a brand new frame, thankfully. (She had absolutely no issue giving me new frames, which is about the only good part of this entire debacle.) Upon inspection, these lenses were also scratched. She ordered me new lenses again. Two weeks later, I went in for those. Those were also scratched, and I'm wearing them now, with my head always bent because if I try to look through the top, my vision is warped thanks to scratches. I received a phone call message the other day informing me that new lenses were made, but they didn't pass some test which indicated they were flawed somehow, so here I am, still waiting. No one has made any effort to even address how ridiculous it is that I've been at this for over two months now. I really feel like no one cares that much, though the manager has now committed to being the only one to touch my new lenses and frame them for me. I still feel like something else in the way of an apology or a showing of remorse would make me feel like this matters to someone. Anyway, in summary, I will not being going back to Fashion Eye Center. This experience has been totally unacceptable, and one of the biggest headaches I've ever had to deal with at a doctor/retail store. Absolutely terrible. Also, a TIP: Make sure they don't polish the edges of your lenses! With most plastic frames, that causes a horrific reflection that, for some people, is hard to look past. Ask them to brush-finish the edges! Actually, don't even go here, go somewhere else! read more

They were going to charge me $1017 for the lenses alone! Frames additional of course. They said it won't cost me that much because my insurance pays some. You better have really good insurance. By the time your insurance is done paying your balance is still going to be what you might pay elsewhere with no insurance. Nice people, immoral company. read more

Dr. Chmielewski was wonderful. He was very thorough in my eye exam (even though I'm young and my eyes are healthy). The pretests completed by the tech were quick but also technologically advanced. They used a special machine to take an image of the retinas of my eyes (did not need to dilate and can drive home alone). The glasses selection is incredible for someone looking for a mid-range to high end designer frame. This place is not for people without vision insurance unless you have the money to spend. The cheapest frames I saw were $150 and go as high as $700 (for the ones I saw). Designers include ray ban, Oakley, Kate spade, Gucci, Tom Ford, Fendi, coach and everything in between. Will I return? Yes, only with vision insurance. In my opinion best place for those on a budget is Lesco, but they do not offer exams. read more

Worst pair of glasses I have ever purchased. Not only did it take two months to get them back. They were not the right prescription so they went back for another month. Paid the extra money for the coating on the lenses for them to have these weird almost water stains with in 5 months. Regret even walking in to this store. Would never recommend this store. I had a great experience getting my eyes examined and buying a new pair of glasses. Dr. Nichols was excellent, took the time to explain the changes in my eyes and answer any questions. This was even on a Saturday, so I'm sure they were busy, but I never felt rushed. They have a nice selection of frames and all the options you would want. One of the better experiences I've had getting new exam and glasses. I will definitely return next year and would recommend them to anyone. They take appointments and walk-ins but I suggest an appointment if you can to make sure you won't have to wait. read more

Unbelievably shocked at this businesses effort to resolve thier examination mistake with my prescription glasses. Since before the Corona virus pandemic I have complained about my glasses being too strong. I had to bring them in to be examined by a tech before they would make an eye appointment to resolve the issue. Once the tech measured the strength in the glasses I spent over $600 for, they said I would need to come back for another exam, at that point covid 19 broke out and now they have stopped serving customers on the weekends and have left it to me to take time off work to have them correct thier mistake. They act like they are doing me a favor... I've spent thousands for my wife and I over the years at this location. For this kind of treatment I don't feel sorry for these people losing thier jobs. They need to understand their place I the consumer world. I refuse to be a lemming and have them force me out of work to fix thier issue. My wife and I will never return to this business for any eye wear needs. I recommend finding somewhere else to get your glasses from. read more

After three trips and a different contact prescription each time and still not able to see clearly I went in and asked for my money back. The man who helped didn't apologize or try to fix the problem and only refunded money for the contacts I hadn't received and couldn't see clearly from. The word incompetent comes to mind. I have been going here for years, and I have always liked the doctors and staff. However my price range with insurance is usually between 200-400, even with getting frames and contacts. This time however I had asked about a coupon and whether it would be a good choice and I ended up with an almost $800 bill for contact and glasses. I tried asking if we could recalculate making some changes and was told I was getting a good deal that "they weren't even supposed to be giving" me. Nothing that was added in was explained to me but my bill included: a fee for the exam (I think this was over 200, I do not have the receipt with me right now), a $95 contact fitting fee (I put them in myself), fees for upgrades to the lenses (I was not asked), my frames (they were $299, however I was supposed to be getting 40% off with the coupon and this is about the price range I normally got in the past), plus the contacts which interestingly enough was the least expensive thing on my receipt and they are daily's! Overall I felt trapped and bullied into spending $800 that I CANNOT afford, had to split it up onto multiple credit cards and still owe money when I return for my items. My husband is livid, and needless to say, I will never be returning which is a shame because I did always like the doctors and staff. I simply cannot afford this office anymore!! read more

I've never been super impressed with this office but my last visit will probably be the last at this office. They have a new machine that costs extra and they don't ask if you want the service or not. This fantastic machine is complicated and they don't know how to work all the kinks. This made things not as fantastic but I had previously been very impressed with the doctors and was looking forward to my visit. My normal appointment went well but the doctor kept pushing for dilation, as it had been several years since I had my eyes dilated I finally agreed. The doctor put the drops in my eyes and sent me out to the waiting room while the chemicals set in. I waited the mandatory time and then the doctor came out and said goodbye to the staff. I thought maybe they were leaving soon as I was the last patient. Then the staff started buzzing they couldn't find his number and he had forgotten about his patient (ME!). They finally got him back he looked at my eyes and told me I was in danger of retinal tearing with no additional information. At the real end of the appointment he said goodbye without a single mention or apology of his snafu. I will be finding a new doctors office for my next appointment. read more

I've been coming to fashion eye for about 10 years now. Ive always had Great service and experiences. I once had the doctor remove a piece of metal from my eye. Dispite the scary tools I still felt very comfortable and taken care of. Here I always get all my needs taken care of. I get safety glasses, sunglasses and regular glasses. They always have a really good selections of all kinds and they can even order off a catalog for you if you can find something in store you like. Called after seeing a groupon deal at 0930 this morning 6/12/12 explaned that I saw the great deal on groupon and had a few questions. I then asked 1. How much they charge for Oakley Antix? 2. If they carry Oakley Antix? Was told that yes they do and if they don't have the exact ones I was I was looking for that they could be ordered, as Fashion Eye was an Oakley dealer.... Fast forward 3.5 hours... Standing in the Oracle store being told that no they do not carry Antix and if I was to order them that the groupon wouldn't apply! Spoke to the manager Thelma on the phone and she confirmed that this was true and there was NOTHING I could do! I'm very frustrated with Fashion Eye and thought they would care for the customer better than this. Or at least include "in stock only" on the groupon. Furthermore, anyone who does business like this should be reprimanded. I do not recommend Fashion Eye because of the lack of coustomer care and thir inability to solve my issue. read more

I just stumbled into this eyeglass shop from the street. From the outside the it looked unassuming, but once inside I could see it was a higher end (pricey) establishment, which was not really what I had in mind. But I had some time to kill and needed new glasses so I stayed to just take a look around at their frames. A staff member greeted me and ended up helping me find a pair of affordable (239.00) frames I actually liked. I went ahead and placed an order with my new prescription. Even with the 30% discount I was offered for the lenses, the cost was still much higher than I've ever paid for glasses. I was assured Fashion Eye Center only used the highest quality lens products and manufacturers, and that my new progressives would be far superior to my "Costco" progressives, with it being much easier to "find the sweet spot" between the three vision ranges. After 2.5 weeks of wearing my new glasses, I honestly do not notice any difference. As with my "Costco" glasses, I struggle focusing in on the intermediate range. In fact these new glasses are a little worse at the intermediate range. To the point that I just take my glasses off while at my computer, which is disappointing. For $725.00 I had hoped for a more noticeable difference in performance and overall enjoyment of wearing my glasses. I was also offered a second pair of glasses at 50% off for both frames and lenses. At first I thought I might get some sun glasses using that discount. But after a less than amazing experience with my first pair, I don't feel very compelled to continue doing business with Fashion Eye Center. Other than having loads of designer frames I do not feel their product measured up to their prices, and although I have no complaint about the service, it was not exceptional either. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Fashion eyes from the moment I called to make my appointment to the moment I picked up my new glasses. I was able to get in for an appointment the same day I called and was greeted by friendly employees and a clean, welcoming environment the moment I walked in. Adam, the gentleman who did my pre-exam, was very nice and knowledgeable. He answered the numerous questions I asked him and was able to help calm some of the unnecessary nerves I was feeling (I hadn't been to the optometrist in over 10 years). The doctor who did my actual exam was super friendly as well! Once it was determined that I would be needing glasses for the first time, a woman named Thelma helped me pick out my frames. I asked to see multiple styles and she was super nice and accommodating the entire time. She had great taste and did a great job helping me find a pair that I felt really confident in. My glasses arrived just a week after my appointment. The entire process was really easy and even kind of fun! I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family! read more

Wish I'd read the other Yelp reviews before going here! It's close to my home so made an appointment for a eye check up, which was fine, a very nice, knowledgeable optometrist did the exam. But then I experienced the pressure in the front sales/show room to buy a very expensive pair of glasses! It seemed like the designer Vera Wang/Tom Ford, etc. frames on display were the only ones available to make a choice from--but when I objected to spending over $900 for one pair of glasses, they opened the hidden drawer of "budget frames". This brought the price down to "only" $650.... Guess what--you as the customer can get a copy of your prescription, and get quotes from any store you want, so you can compare prices for the same prescription. You pay for your exam here at Fashion Eye, of course, but you can get a very attractive pair of glasses with the nice lightweight frames and high quality lenses, for about half of the original price quoted here. Perhaps the people at Fashion Eye should ask the customer about what is important to them before trying to sell the highest cost (and highest profit) glasses to someone who needs to spend the money on more important things -- like the rent! read more

Claims it is "medically necessary" while at the same time telling me insurance won't cover it because "it's not medically necessary." Refused to write me a contact prescription without paying an extra $81, claiming they needed to make sure they "fit" me even though it's the same brand I've been wearing for years. My exam was maybe 5 minutes longer than normal, and I was charged an $81 for it. Pure robbery. I really want to like this place, but what an utter ripoff and scam taking advantage of customers who have no choice. I have been wearing the same contacts for 12 years - but had to pay for the "fitting" in addition to the $59. Groupon. Totally bogus. Then they held me hostage trying to sell me $900. glasses when my eyes had not changed at all and I didn't need glasses which I told them. $159.00 to get a new contact lens prescription so I could order the exact same contacts - what a rip off. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My appointment was scheduled about four days out which is excellent in my opinion. I was even taken back about four minutes before my scheduled time. The doctor was very thorough and informative (I saw Dr. Iverson). They made it very clear that my satisfaction was the most important thing. I did end up needing glasses, and they let me know it would be about two weeks for them to arrive. I was very pleasantly surprised when my glasses arrived a full week early! When I went to pick them up the staff again showed my satisfaction was paramount as they adjusted everything until I was completely satisfied with the fit. I highly recommend this office. read more

After explaining the problems I was having, she quickley identified the issue and ordered me a new pair. I have been wearing them for over a month and am loving them. I had vsp insurance & barry blonder did reasonably competent eye exam; nothing exceptional but nothing to complain about either. he understandably runs thru a large number of patients to maximize business but he did everything he was supposed to for my exam. however, he and his staff will put pressure to buy upgrades like scratch-resistant coating or progressive instead of lined bifocals which my insurance did not cover; so if you are not assertive you could end up paying a lot more than you planned for read more

The doctor himself was great, but the other people working there really should make sure they go over all costs with customers before they do anything. I was not aware of all the different costs just as the $25 fee for them taking a picture of your eye, and a $60 fee for contact lens fitting. All they tell you at first is what your copay is, and had I known about the other fees i would at least been able to make the choice if I wanted those things. Fantastic experience! I lost my glasses a while back and recently started working in front of a computer all day. My vision had gotten worse since I lost my glasses and I needed a new pair stat. I just got new VSP plan through work. I found Fashion Eye on Yelp/Google. I saw their Oracle location was highly rated. I called them last Saturday and asked if they had any exam openings. They said no, so I tried the not so well rated Broadway location. Christi picked up and said they were also completely booked, but she offered to put me on the cancellation list. I said ok and I got a call back within 45 minutes saying there was an opening that same day at 11:30. I went in and although the office is older looking than the Oracle location, everyone was very nice, they had a wide selection of frames, and the latest in technology for your eye exam. I was taken back 15 minutes early and I elected to pay the extra $25 to have my retina examined with the OptoMap. I didn't have to dilate and it was super easy. The doctor was very nice, but didn't introduce himself and didn't really give me any update on my eyes until I asked. He was very personable though. He saw I had an orthopedic boot on and a walker, so he told me his own foot injury tale. He also gave me the best prescription I've had my entire life and he answered all my questions thoroughly and patiently. As far as picking my glasses, I was looking for purple frames. They didn't have too many or any I liked, so I went to the Oracle location. Before I left the Broadway store, Christi told me if I ended up picking frames at their other store she would be happy to send my records over to them. I got to the Oracle location and it was very updated and modern inside, very wide selection again. One of the ladies quickly came over to me and knew who I was, the girl looking for purple frames. She pulled all the purple frames she could find. There were a lot! After I narrowed down my search, Sabrina came over and helped me finalize my order. She was super helpful and went above and beyond to help me decide between two last pairs. She even went online and found all the other colors the frames both came in to help me choose. She also assured me if I ordered a pair and didn't like them, they could restyle me in another frame within 30 days! I ordered a beautiful pair of Bebe's and paid $135.00 with them completely decked out using my VSP plan. I'm even more excited to say my glasses arrived in less than a business week. Sabrina called me yesterday and I went to pick them up. They fit PERFECTLY and she took her time making sure I was happy with the fit and look. Thank you so much Fashion Eye. In my opinion, this place has to be the worst eye care office I have ever done business with. Frames were overpriced, and the staff did the hard sell to upgrade my reading glasses to have every bell and whistle available - at my expense as vsp only covered the basics. When I refused these upgrades, I was made to feel I was making the wrong choice - remember these were reading glasses. They wanted me to do progressive bifocals with transitions tinting when I only use my glasses indoors. After picking up my glasses, and trying to adjust to them, my head instantly started hurting and everything look like it was in a wedge shape (remember the opening scene of Star Wars with the writing big at the top and small at the bottom?). When I took them back the same day, I was told I had astigmatism and that is what the prescription was for and that's how things will look with astigmatism. My $15 over the counter readers work fine - better than the new glasses. Dr. Blonder never made any mention of the astigmatism at the time of the exam, and to make the correction, I would need to schedule a second exam. The only available appointment with a different dr. was at their oracle and ina office - over a hour away from my work or home. Trying to work with the people in this office was futile. I will be working with my insurance to get a second exam with a different dr and not with fashion eye center. Spare yourself the frustration and the hard sell by steering clear of this business. read more
