We had him remodel a sunroom at our house which has a historic property designation. The sunroom and windows were more recent construction (30 years ago) when a previously exterior space was enclosed. We initiated the project to address some exterior wood rot in the windows and wanted the improvements to better complement the historic character of the house. The project entailed removing old shake shingle wall siding, installing new modular linoleum flooring, installing drywall and wood wainscotting, trim work, and painting. Notably, the project included new custom-designed windows with divided mullions to compliment the craftsman character of the rest of the house. Gustavo, an experienced contractor, oversaw details of the project. James is starting out as a contractor and has a network of family/friends that are skilled tradespeople. I was originally concerned about the newness of the company. But James claimed to have a license and insurance.  And my honest opinion is that he is working harder to please clients than perhaps more established contractors/handymen. We were very pleased with the quality of the work, James' responsiveness, and the value of the work.  Our experience in a time of high demand for home improvement contractors is that there is some serious price gouging occurring.  We felt James was very fair and reasonably priced for the work done. James and company made sure we were satisfied with the project and did not quibble about some minor adjustments we made or that we had some decision inflections (deciding on paint color, etc.) I plan to use the company for future projects such as bathroom improvements and drywall repair.  I highly recommend James Henry, particularly to my Mountain View neighbors.

Below are some specific issues I encountered during our project. 1. Lack of Management Although they advertise "turnkey" services, there was no project management. My husband had to step in and manage the workers himself, which caused major disruptions to our jobs and childcare. Much later in the project it turned out that the owner, Kate, was moving to LA during our project and was not available to supervise. 2. Poor Quality and Broken Promises The work did not match what we agreed upon. For example, they used a "touch-up" system for painting where I was supposed to mark mistakes with stickers. However, the next sub contractor hired by company informed me that those spots couldn't be fixed without repainting the entire wall. In the end, we were left with both the original marks and new stains from the stickers. 3. Unsupervised Subcontractors The company uses outside contractors who are given access to your home without supervision from Parrotones. This led to several problems: Our dog escaped twice while workers were in the house. Paint/chemicals were poured onto the plants, killing them. 4. Major Delays Because of constant mistakes that had to be fixed, the project took much longer than promised. We were supposed to finish on February 22, but the work was still not done by March 13. This meant living in a messy, unfinished house for weeks longer than expected. 5. Issues with the Staircase and Legal Agreement The paint on the staircase railings began to peel off completely because the surface wasn't sanded properly. Following a formal notice of intent to pursue legal action, the company agreed in writing to fix the stairs and provide financial compensation. While they did come back to fix the stairs, as of this report the agreed-upon compensation was never paid. Takeaways: Do not pay invoices in full until the work is 100% finished. The company's marketing does not reflect the actual quality of their work.

I sent an inquiry and within just a few hours Kate came over to discuss the details in person. The project was completed exactly within the agreed timeframe. Everything was done very carefully: all surfaces were properly covered and protected from paint, and the team cleaned up thoroughly after the work was done. During the process, we decided to increase the scope of the project, and the team was very flexible and accommodating. Communication was excellent throughout. The team was always responsive, easy to reach, and very understanding of our situation. They also left us a touch-up kit and promised support for up to a year, which we really appreciate. I am writing this on behalf of the community here where I live. We have 32 townhomes and this was…read morea contract that was signed off on by our HOA. Upon first meeting Adam and his father, they were both gracious and attentive. They listened to all of our concerns and assured us that this paint job would be done to the best of their abilities. As homeowners, we trusted that the work would be done professionally. Since the painting started over a month ago, there have been several inconsistencies in their work. Garage Doors were haphazardly sprayed once over on several of the units here. We were told that they were finished as is. As you can see from the pictures, you can see how the patterns of the spray paint was erratic. We wondered how this could be considered complete. After reporting the issues, they look 'ok' now but disappointing. Doors that were painted in our patios are uneven and we had to ask to have them come back to do touch ups. When touch ups were done, they were left looking sloppy and careless. Alas, things aren't perfect and when we requested to have cans of touch up paint to do it ourselves, they brought a small amount so that we could do this. Mind you, when I say "small" amount, the paint won't be enough to do a 2nd coat which is what our patio doors need. I am reminded to be grateful. What I will say is that they have been responsive to our requests to have things re-done. The garage doors look adequate now. When our address numbers were painted initially, they didn't take off the numbers prior to painting them. It was only because we *asked* to have the numbers be taken off prior that they came back to do them correctly. As of now, the numbers are fine and done to our satisfaction. (I am not showing these for Privacy reasons). Lastly, I want to be completely honest and say that I love to support small business. Take a look at my reviews and you'll know that 90% of them are positive. I was really rooting for these guys and wanted to see them do well. But as a client of theirs, I would be doing all of you a disservice if I didn't tell you all the truth.

So, when it was time to re paint our 25 year old house's paint job, they were the first people I called. We got an excellent quote, and knowing their quality, I only got one (higher) additional one before giving them the job. We all had to work around the wintertime rainy weather and their other customer commitments, but the extra time it took to get the quality we got was well worth the wait. We had some mold in our garage and the quote to repair and replace the drywall was part of the original quote. We had them remove the drywall. They then worked with us and we found the source of the leak. They fixed it for a fraction of the additional cost that others had quoted us. The quote also included repairing areas on our chimney where birds were trying to get in so they were a good one stop shop to get more than just painting done. Adam and Ron are very nice, upstanding guys who treated us fairly and we could not be more thrilled with the results and recommend them without reservation!

We recently bought a new house and needed some electrical work done including installing a Tesla…read morecharger, adding recessed lights, upgrading our electrical panel, rewiring knob and tube wires, and adding in ethernet wiring. I did some Yelp bidding and Victor was pretty responsive and came out to our place for an estimate. He seemed pretty knowledgeable about code requirements and pointing out some things we should update and what things seemed fine to leave alone. After chatting with some other electricians Victor's rates seemed reasonable so we went with him. Victor and his team were prompt to work with us and fit us in between various projects. It still did take a few weeks to finish everything between waiting around for permit and PG&E inspections. However Reliable Electric coordinated all the logistics for those matters and would update us as things got scheduled. Our original scope of work was upgrading the panel, installing the Tesla charger, and adding recessed lights. Since we didn't have a big attic or a crawl space, they had to open up some of our walls to do the work. That's when we discovered that there were still knob and tube wiring in some parts of our house (was built in 1953). He recommended rewiring since that would work better with our new lighting and it would make things safer. While we had the walls open we decided to run some ethernet cables to different rooms for convenience. We discovered a breaker not working during the first week after we moved in but Victor was quick to come out and replaced it free of charge. He also did a few other gratis things for us like securing the outside wiring around the house and replacing some old switch boxes. A few months after moving in, some of the outlets in our house stopped working. Victor came out in a timely manner to look at the issue. He was thorough in testing out the breakers and the problematic outlets. Turns out it was a loose neutral wire in another outlet. It was promptly fixed and everything seems to be working again. Since this was our first home purchase and contractor project, here are some things I learned: -Reliable Electric does not patch walls. Since they had to open the walls for rewiring, we had to also find someone to do drywall patching. For future projects I will ask contractors what are some items that their scope of work will not cover. -While it was easy to coordinate with Reliable Electric directly, it may still be beneficial to work with a general contractor if you have a bigger project. We were doing other updates around the house (painting, flooring) and I felt like I had a second job coordinating everyone. -For future projects I will research and buy the materials myself to save on some costs. We've been in our new house for a few months now and are enjoying our updated electrical work!
