My family just happened to be walking by and my son remembered he attended a birthday party here. This is not really my forte so I can't be to technical in this review but if your into this hobby it seems an awesome place. We went inside and there was tons of stuff to keep anyone any age occupied! A builders dream. You can race cars on their cool track for 15 minutes for 5$ a person. I was really happy to find a Thomas the Train that was SF Giants themed! Cool place we will probably come back and race some cars at. Stag was really nice. read more

We purchased an RC car at a different hobby shop and that particular shop - I will refer to as "H Town" did not help us at all when the car broke. They quoted me a price of $60 per hour for labor and said the part that needed to be replaced would take about an hour to do. I couldn't believe it as I'd just bought the car a few days earlier! The repair costs were over half of what I'd paid in the first place! We then called Fast Track and they quoted us a price of $7.50 for every fifteen minutes - a fraction of what "H Town" wanted! Not only that - but they made the repair in 15 minutes!! Again, a fraction of the time "H Town" claimed the job would take. I will only patronize Fast Track for our hobby needs in the future. Really? OK. I would think that in the age of the internet, that these people would be all about customer service. Not here. I went into this shop knowing what I was looking for and was shocked by the way I was spoken to. I don't look like the typical dorky R/Cer. but thought that I might want one to have in my RV while camping. They did not have the car I was looking for but made me feel like they were doing me a favor to order one. They don't have very good prices either. I found the item I was looking for on eBay for about $100 less. They should really read this and make changes if they plan on staying in business. Looks to be a great local Hobbie shop! I broke the motor on my glided and called around. I liked the person I spoke with on the phone so much that even though they did not have it in stock I would place an order through them to get what I needed anyway. They called the next week and when I stopped by to pick my item up I was surprised and impressed by the size and amount of stock they had on the shelves. It's got to be tough to compete with cheaper online sales but I will always patronize "brick and mortar" stores like this as there is just nothing better than cruising the isles of a good hobby shop. read more

They handled contacting Horizon for the warranty and due to the motor being back ordered they swapped my seized motor with a brand new one they had in the shop. I've recently become a regular patron at Fast Track. The whole staff has been very helpful and given me the best customer service. On top of that after looking online at amazon and elsewhere they are usually priced cheaper and the best part they have it in stock usually which means I play now not in a few days. So I really do like coming to this place, but whenever it comes down to the employees, if you ask them a question if they have some thing in stock or not they either tell you yes they do or no they don't and give you an explanation saying that oh, those pieces or that vehicle is not worth getting so they try to deter you away from something that you want. I'm asking you if you have the object that I'm looking for yes or no I don't care for your opinion if you think something is still in demand or not, simply yes, or no to my questions stop trying to deter people from wanting to buy what they are looking for.. I get this all the time every time I called in or if I go in and ask about a vehicle I'm really getting sick and tired of getting the same response. I would just recommend spending the extra gas going to. RC COUNTRY HOBBYS in sacramento. They actually have a good variety and they actually have parts that you NEED! Few months later I called two different times and you definitely do not get the same quality of customer service on the phone. Will not use any names but god forbid you call for a part without the part number.. was told that he COULD look it up but there is a lot of different parts numbers so get the part number and call back.. Really? I'm not asking for that random 4mm screw under the center diff housing on my ^%#$@#^%@# RC car .. Just needed lower control arms for a Xmaxx. Went there for new shocks for my TRX4 and a light bar which I could get off Amazon. Anyway bought the light bar, and clerk talked me into getting a new receiver and transmitter for the car. I bought the rcvr and transmitter for operating 5 channels now. I find out the rcvr won't accept the cables from the TRX4, different connectors. I go back to find out I have to cut a positioning tab off the connectors to make them fit. Now I come back home and do just that and find out I need a new cable to make the 5 channels work. Would of been nice to find this out when I was at the store. Also, the shocks I wanted were supposed to be in on Friday, but when I get there on Saturday was told "sorry, are guy who unpacks shipments is off". Per other posts, yep employees eating lunch at the "repair counter".. The reason to shop local is for customer service and hobby help. They make a good case for Amazon and YouTube. read more

Although I live in Elk Grove because of how well setup their place is, it's worth the drive for me. Angry Momma, Sooo disappointed/ infuriated. First off I work in retail as a second place of employment. I am familiar with retail and also work hard for the things we have. We bought an electric car for my son for X-Mas, we were going with one that was cheaper but we were told for $20.00 more the next one up would be "more durable". So we purchased the $120.00 car. (9hr battery charge for 15 min. Use). We could not afford a better battery or better charger. My son however rcvd. $$ from friends and relatives for his birthday and X-Mas and purchased these items, for another $60ish. He rcvd. Incorrect advice on how to charge and they tried to sell him a lipo bag for another $11.00. we got that figured out while in store. My son had two days with the car and the metal broke and wheels fell off. They refused to back the product and make this right. Whoever was in charge went to his office and walked away from my husband and son, after handing them over to a young employee who would try to fix for an added charge. My husband said no. I am sorry something this expensive should last more than 2 or three days. This is un-exceptable. Also the blatant disregard in customer service and greediness is a disgrace. Also the store is crowded people are standing together by the registers and employee safety is not a concern they are not wearing masks. Also customer safety is not a concern the do not provide a mask, and customers are not required to wear a mask. Back to the car we are roughly out about $200.00 and items we can not use, and most importantly a very disappointed (to say the least) child who is raped of his birthday money. I am not someone who does reviews like this and am shaking because I am so mad. There are so many details, like we supported this company since my son was small. Went with my family on a rainy day to race slot cars on the tracks they have there. It was a fun time but we had trouble with some of the rented slot cars not working properly and then we had trouble with our racing lanes not working properly. The cars you rent are very worn down and some didn't work so we had to exchange it for another car which takes away from the time you paid for because you have to find someone to help you. When switching out your slot car for one that actually works they make you feel as though you're bothering them, needless to say their customer service is definitely lacking and could be better. Overall, we had a nice time trying out something new. Hopefully if we go back we'll have a better experience. read more

Apparently, FTH in Rocklin is now closed. They had a decent selection of models, and lots of R/C cars, as well as some boats, aircraft, and paints. Of course, as the name implies, they had slot-car racing tracks too, which looked nice. Supposedly, they're moving to a new location, but when I asked where that would be, or when, the employee had no answers. A shame, since I think this was the last hobby shop in the area, after the multiple moves, and closure of Hobby Town. read more

They're the best spot for model cars/truck and the supplies to build them in the area. I've been going in for years and if they've ever not had something I needed, they were happy to get it on the next order. Any place that keeps my retired Dad entertained for more than an hour deserves a few stars. No really, my Dad isn't motivated to do much, but he absolutely LOVES coming to Fast Track Hobbies for all of his slot car racing needs and wants, and comes here pretty much every week, so that says a lot. This is their new location, and supposedly it is bigger and better than the last one. I just went here with my Dad the other day and they have two main slot car tracks, one which is the longest slot car track known to exist! Yup, Rocklin may not have much, but they do have the bragging rights for the longest slot car track! And my Dad loves it. He comes here to race on his own time and at $3 for 15 minutes (if you have your own car, otherwise it is $5 for 15 minutes) it is the cheapest and best way to make my Dad smile. There are also official races here on Saturdays, and my Dad just finds this place an awesome spot to meet new people and to share their enjoyment for slot car racing. This is something that can entertain people of all ages--in fact there were a few families in here all racing each other, crashing their cars into each other, laughing...you know, having a pretty good time. If slot cars aren't for you, there is also remote control car tracks including this pretty cool looking rock course where you can make your car climb and stumble all over rocks and rickety bridges, or there is also a kids track where they set up mini obstacles for kids to practice their remote control car driving skills on too. And soon they'll have a drag racing strip too for mini drag cars. Now this is listed as a Hobby Store, but they do not sell all hobby related items. The staff here is very knowledgeable and helpful about the products they have in store, plus they have a guy who designs and builds slot cars from scratch, and my Dad is quickly becoming one of their best customers. They have gliders here, models people can buy and build and other things, but no trains or anything like that. But they are definitely good at what they aim to be--and that is an amazing place to slot car race. The only things they need are better food and drink options other than the vending machines and this place would be perfect! Oh and I am not a huge fan of country music either, but that is something that could be easily fixed :-) read more

This is a pretty cool place with knowledgeable staff. The place is huge but needs a little more lighting. I came here to buy a Mini RC helicopter. I spoke with a one of the sales staff, he was very polite and answered all of my questions in detail. This place has 3 huge tracks to test your slot car or RC car inside the store. We came here for a 5 year old boy's birthday party and it was a welcomed change from all the typical bouncy house birthday parties! The staff was super friendly and helpful and all 9 of the boys had a great time! The party room is predecorated with Cars themed borders and signs - very cool! There's a refrigerator / freezer, spring water, coffee maker, toaster oven etc to use, three 6' tables with chairs - all very clean and in great shape! For a 1 hour party, it cost $80 and was worth every penny!!! We just brought our cake, ice cream & beverages, along with disposable table clothes and plates / utensils and serving stuff... a very easy party. read more

I took my Traxxas Rustler VXL to Fast Track Hobbies because the whole front end was destroyed and the back right throw arm was done too. When I got it back the front was fixed fine and things were good. But when I got home the spur gear was gone so I had to go back and get it. But they weren't suppose to touch that... On my 3rd drive the motor was making a loud high pitch noise and I went to open up the motor and I found that all the bolts were striped on the motor and on the gear on the motor. Also, some of the employees are very rude but some are very nice and helpful. read more

I've been in here twice - once to buy an upscale RC electric car for my 10 year old son, and the other time for model rocket materials. As an RC newbie - the people were helpful. They did not push crazy high-end merchandise. The product (an ECT circuit all in one set) has worked great for over 1 year. I am planning to head back to maybe get an upgrade motor - to go a bit faster, and to get some clips to keep the body on. Stopped at Yelp to remember where this place was (forgot address) - and I was surprised to see some low reviews. What annoys me is when a decent small business gets low reviews for ridiculous reasons. Honestly, I wish Yelp would let us review the reviews. Some useless reviews: a woman complaining that she didn't read a Groupon (so she left a negative review for the business), another guy complaining about where former employees work and cash register etiquette, some guy miffed because he wasn't greeted fast enough when a worker was helping someone else. Why do reviews like this annoy me - because they kill small businesses. California loves it chains - and chains love to have a greeter in front - someone with no skills - except for greeting you. When I go to a specialty store (like this RC and hobby shop) I want (1) inventory, (2) reasonably fair prices, (3) people who know what they are talking about, and (4) honesty - not taking advantage of newbies by up-selling. Greetings. If I want to be greeted: I'll wait till I come home - my family can greet me. For businesses - I'll patiently wait my turn. If I don't - small business die, and are replaced by Hobby Lobbies (or other chain). Honestly, I'd rather a grizzled guy with grease under his fingernails who knows what he's talking about rather than an 18 year old girl with a ponytail, a smile, but little else to offer (or a coolish young dude - gender doesn't matter here). Point is - I'd rather forego the "hi" and wait for experience. In sum, lets not trash small businesses for lame reasons. End of rant. read more

All the kids had a great time and the guys that work there were super helpful especially when one of the kids was having trouble with his car. To be honest, I would give them 0 stars if I could. Going in there, I expected a safe covid protocol with customer service. Instead, I was treated extremely unprofessional. There first problem is the return policy, which in fair warning is absolutely hopeless. So if you buy a car, make sure it's one you want and you test it out before purchasing. Or quite literally, you'll be stuck with it and it will remain collecting dust in your garage because of the disappointment it's inflicted. I was in there with hopes of returning a RC vehicle that didn't work as well as their staff hyped it up to be. This is upsetting because of the fact it was a 150$ gift. I couldn't even exchange it for another. The customer isn't right, the customer is just there to get swindled, humiliated, and down right cheated. Furthermore, not be a Karen, but I guess covid doesn't exist to the managers and staff? They gave 0 cares to mask wearing themselves and didn't sanitize or use preventative care to protect their employees but more importantly there customers. This doesn't only affect their store and the people shopping there, but it in return affects the entire community. A selfish, and unethical business that is run by a manager who only cares for himself. Good luck to future shoppers and yikes. read more

Super Fun Birthday Parties! So we just hosted not one, but Two!! birthday parties for my little guys 6th birthday (one for school friends and one for family on a different day). and everyone seemed to have a blast. People who had not been to the store before commented on how nice the birthday party room was. Several guests said that they would be sure to come back again to race slot cars another day - we certainly will be back too! About the other peoples comments about the staff. How do I put this nicely - there are lots of different types of people in this world - and you are dealing with a group of men who LOVE building models etc so much that they have made it their profession - so, sorta slot car geeks - so if you are expecting the level of service that you would get at the Cheesecake Factory - nope not going to get it. Yet, all that attention to detail that they put into their cars/models they also use to organize the birthday parties - I've seen the appt book - you can count on them to be ready for your party - party room clean, and they know how to make sure every kid gets the same amount of race time on the track during your party (not an easy task). Plus there are all sort of cool educational science toys! Great place! read more

It's really unfortunate there isn't a space for no stars. This is the worst run business in Rocklin. My family and I have been repeatedly treated with disrespect when we enter this "establishment". Tonight I went there with my son because he likes the slot cars. I walk in and say "hey" to the guy behind the counter who looks right at me and doesn't acknowledge me AT ALL. It wasn't until I stared him down that he greeted me. My wife gets treated worse than this if you can believe that. Then they shorted my son and I on our slot time by 4 minutes then tried to say it was 15 until I showed them the receipt. Then the "nicer" guy says "well I guess so I'll add 5 minutes"..I said no that's fine if its so precious to you. I just needed to get out of there before I started to lose it. Not "hey, I'm sorry, you're right, let me set you up with 10 more minutes. Go have fun." Saying this place sucks just doesn't cover it. I'll never go in this dump again. I live in the community right behind it and I'm going to flame this place on every facebook page in Rocklin. Looking for bad customer service and people who don't give a damn about you? Fast Track Hobbies has always been our 'neighborhood' hobby store to go to for all of our pinewood derby car supplies and more. Being an active parent in both of our sons' Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop, they have always generously donated giftcards/slot car racing tickets to our fundraising events. They have a fantabulous slot car racing track (actually two!) that we tried out today. The boys had such a great time. The staff is very friendly and helpful with any questions you might have. I highly recommend Fast Track Hobbies for all of your 'hobby' needs! We're even looking into booking our son's bday party there! They have a party room in the back too. I'm new to the RC hobby and stepped into Fast Track Hobbies just on a whim. The team at Fast Tracks was very willing to let me demo a few RC cars and let me drive them "like I stole them". I had a blast and went in a week later and bought a Traxxas Slash 4x4 electric RC truck. Since buying the RC, I've already broken a few parts and being new to the hobby, had no clue how to fix it. The owner was incredibly helpful and showed me the OEM replacement part and the aftermarket parts AND explained to me when to use OEM parts and when to use aftermarket parts. I will admit the store gets very busy sometimes and it takes 5 or 10 minutes sometime to get help. I look at it as a time investment. Though there seem to be 4-6 employees on call during working hours, the advise they have given me isn't the "Home Depot" advise at all. I'll happily wait in line at Panda Express for 10 minutes to get Orange Chicken, so why wouldn't I wait 10 minutes for EXPERT advise on a hobby I enjoy and could easily waste money on if the wrong advise was given???!!! I have spent some time in the other local hobby shops and Fast Track's is by far my favorite. Their prices are always competitive (even with online web sites) and the employees are knowledgeable, honest and professional. read more
