Two words for this joint . . . Yankee BBQ. How in the world do you have the nerve to put a pig in the air yet fail to brew your own iced tea? Brisket was dry and tasted like a bland piece of pot roast. The ribs were like jerky. Surprised they didn't sell hot dogs and hamburgers. No trace of vinegar in the North Carolina sauce. I mean really, how do you get something so simple, so so wrong? They should change the name to old fashioned Connecticut style BBQ. And get the pig off of the sign until you earn it. read more

Great BBQ pulled pork sandwiches and sides. Seems like mostly a takeout place, but they do have some seating (picnic tables) inside. Cornbread is on the sweet side for me, but my family loves it. We've also tried the brisket, sausage, mac & cheese and baked beans; all tasty. read more

Very long sorry!!! The first time I came here food was amazing, customer service was also very nice. The second time not so much, we did a phone in order. My boyfriend paid for the order and saw like 5 boxes so he ASSUMED our order was correct . Then we drove all the way to Michigan to have dinner with my family, I opened the box noticed our rib tips looks very small and we were missing one. So i called the store asking if they charged me for the other rib tip because my total was very high and I didn't want to pay for something I didn't receive. The man who answered automatically tried to say "yeah I know I put it in there... I packaged it" I told him once again it wasn't. So he puts me on hold for bit and the lady who took our order started talking... you can tell she's irritated because she has to look up what she charged. She never tells me what she charged me but states "I put both lbs in the same box since you ordered 2" I hate confrontation so I said okay thanks and hung up. But we were still super confused bc there was only like 4 ribs in there... so my mom decided to weigh them and there wasn't even a half a pound ( with the box included) like we ordered and this lady told me she put 2 half pound ribs in this box... so my sister called this lady back explaining that not only was there's not the weight that we paid for and she LIED about putting two in the box and we got over charged. Her explanation was "the man who ordered the ribs did not say he wanted 1 lb, all I heard was the half a pound" what? Even though she told me on the first call she put BOTH half a pounds in one box???? then you can tell she was embarrassed bc we caught her in a lie... she apologized many times and we did get a refund for the meat. But it's never good to lie to your customers if you made a mistake own up to it, I would've understood but blaming it on the customer and lying doesn't look good for ANYONE. read more

Was craving burnt ends! Was in the area for the racetrack and used Yelp to find something on the way. Good meat, some bites were a tad dry but the sauce helped. The Elotes style corn had some heat and a large portion that I couldn't finish. Little pricey but I'm willing to pay more for good food. Open seating with 3 long picnic tables and clean. read more

I went to Fat Caps for the first time yesterday, and my family and I LOVED it! The meat was smoked to perfection, and was fantastic. The staff was very friendly, and provided my family and I with a wonderful dining experience. I recommend everyone tries this place! Can't wait to go back. read more

I'm not connected to the Prized Pig, Smokin D's or Fat Cap....unlike 3 of the first 4 reviews (it would seem). I'm just a BBQ lover who moved here from Atlanta a couple years ago. I loved the prized pig. I love Smokin D's and I can now add Fat Cap to the list after eating there on Tuesday. I will agree that the Mac and cheese was not as good as I remembered at the Prized Pig but Mac and cheese is not why I stopped in. I got to sample the pickled vegetables and thought they were good and I appreciate options not Available from "normal" establishments. There may be subtle differences between Smokin D's and Fat Cap but that's hard to tell with out eating them side by side. As someone who missed a BBQ joint in our area that focused on the meat after PP closed, I'm glad and welcome Fat Cap. It's closer to where I live and work and more convenient to patronize. I do still follow Smokin D's and will continue to eat their meat when their food truck/trailer is near me. I will say though, $4 sides is a bit much at Fat Cap. I used to be able to get out of prized pig for about $12. The same meal at Fat Cap is $15. I normally would bump a rating down to 4 stars if it cost more than "normal" but I love good BBQ too much to squabble over $3. read more

It's bbq. Not bad, not great....Just BBQ. We tried 4 of their offerings. The ribs (there are 4 to a half lb, )they were okay. Nice smoke flavor but dry. The sausage was nothing to write home about. This was great bbq! My family of four (2 kids ages 9 and 11), all loved the meat and the sides. The pulled pork and brisket were cooked to perfection and the sauce selection was great. My favorite part of the experience was actually the staff! I walked in knowing very little about how and what to order, but they got me what I needed and were super helpful and friendly. Super fast service, made right in front of you. Buttery toasted buns with tremendous meats and delicious sauces (loved all of them). My husband went back and ordered another pulled pork sandwich - turned out one wasn't enough. It's really kid-friendly to boot - my kid said the mac and cheese was the best she had ever had. Burnt Ends, Brisket, Ribs, Pork Belly, Chicken, um...YES PLEASE! Wow this is some of the best BBQ I've ever eaten. And the sides were equally amazing. The homemade baked beans were a savory wonder, the buttermilk corn bread sweet, moist and delicious. Bare bones dining room with picnic tables and lots of paper towels. I wish I could give this unassuming hole-in-the-wall 10 stars. They serve smoked meets by the pound, etc. and most customers seemed to be going that route--picking up something from the bulk menu and taking it home. We were traveling through and ate there. Wow. OMG. They have terrific sides (do not miss the baked beans) and a variety of meats and sandwiches to choose from. And then--best part--a slew of bbq sauces. (Ok, never heard of a white bbq sauce called Alabama sauce which just means I need to take a trip to Alabama because I want to put that [bleep] on everything.) We has the rib tips, the chicken sammie and because more is more we also had the Andouille sausage, those beans, and the pickled veggies. If I am ever within 100 miles of this place again I will be back. My only complaint: we were so stuffed we didn't try the "dirt cake," a pudding dessert topped with crushed Oreos. Fat Cap is not any where near what the Prized Pig had to offer. The owner Jeremy was not the pit master at the Prized Pig. It was Kyle Davey who now owns Smokin' D BBQ in Niles. If you fell in love with the awesome BBQ from the Prized Pig then you need to go to Smokin' D BBQ in Niles. Fat Cap does not even compare. I went there on opening day hoping to have some great BBQ, instead ended up getting spending $20 on chicken that had skin so tough it was uneatable and rib tips that had little to no rub on them at all. Could not even taste any smokey flavor in the meat. Even the famous mac & cheese did not stand up to the quality of what was available at the Prized Pig. Fat Cap is claiming to be the same as the Prized Pig and it is not even close. Don't waste your time or money at Fat Cap. Take the extra drive and head up to Smokin' D BBQ in Niles for the great BBQ you grew to love at the Prized Pig. read more
