We stopped in here on a Thursday at about 4. The staff were all very friendly, the service was great and the beer was cold. That why it gets two stars. The place was very clean but had no personality. My hubby and I both opted to have the Black and Blue Burger, the burger had no flavor and no blacked seasoning on them or if it did you couldn't taste it. The burger patty itself was large and wasn't dried out it just didn't taste like anything but the grill. We both ended up putting mustard on them and that's something you just don't do to a black and blue. If it wasn't for needing gas at the Murphy gas station right next store we never would have come here. We were on a road trip and thought a break and a burger sounded great! As we entered the restaurant there were a handful of hostess ready to greet us and seat us. We were brought right to our table and our server came right over. The menu offered a great variety, but we were all set on burgers! As we waited for our food to arrive I did see a plate of cheese fries pass by that looked amazing! The burgers were one of our favorites! They were fresh burgers and seasoned perfectly. We were pretty surprised by the size of the burgers and the generous portion of fries for the price of it all. Terrible service and the drinks were horrible ,and when asked to remake it they said their policy was to not take drinks off the bill which was not what we wanted. just a drink that didn't taste like rubbing alcohol. My family & I just went here on a Friday evening and it was almost full so we had no wait. The hostess and server were both very polite and in good spirits. The restaurant was very clean and our tables didn't wobble. The seats were comfortable and we weren't so close to the next table that we could hear their conversation. Now for the food. We've always enjoyed the food at Fat Jack's. We've probably been here 5 or 6 times. There's nothing that has need bad. Last night was no exception. Two of us got the ribeye (market price, but very reasonable). They came out perfect. Perfect. Simple salad. Simple baked potato. No frills; it was simply done right. My son had wings (buffalo hot and southern fried) and he said they were great. I'll testify that the two he couldn't finish last night looked very good this afternoon when one of the kids reheated them for lunch. My burger snob eleven year old loved the burger while the remaining two skinny children who could care less about food enjoyed their chicken sandwich and chicken tenders. Ordered takeout so I can't speak to service but the shrimp and grits are amazing. The to go portion I received could easily feed two people. I also ordered a side of sweet potato waffle fries for $4. You never know when you're not from the area, but the name alone drew us in. FAT JACK'S. Gotta be good, right? I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the catfish. The. Best. Shrimp and grits I have ever had. Freshly ground, local grits with a ground sausage gravy and plenty of plump shrimp. My hubby is a fanatic for catfish and hush puppies. He did not have one complaint. I tried the hush puppies. Some of the best i've ever tasted. Our server, DeeDee was such a doll. Sweet and attentive. She recommended the Salted Vanilla Crunch Cake. We came here on a Motorcycle ride with "Throttle Down" Motorcycle Ministries. FAT Jack's definitely has Great Comfort Food! Well worth the ride there. The food was comforting and great tasting, the location was convenient just off I 95 and Bells Highway in Walterboro, SC. Outside, Fat Jack's has ample parking and lots of outdoor seating options, Inside Fat Jack's the decor was breezy, bright, lots of windows, with big open space seating. We made reservations the day before since our group fluctuates from 16-30 people and on a Sunday afternoon after church seating can be challenging. Once inside, we were immediately greeted by Dave (the host) and our waitress Brandy. Within 10 minutes we were all sipping our drinks while combing through the Menus. Brandy was cordial , attentive, hospitable, and observant. Very helpful and super sweet. She is a gem! The bike ride from Cathedral Church in North Charleston SC to Walterboro,SC on the Bike was an hour and 10 minutes. I did not order an appetizer this time because I don't like to eat a lot of food while ridding. There are times that I am so full that I feel queasy. I fear the "Itis" will either make me fall asleep or fall off the bike from overeating. It wasn't long from the time we ordered until the time we were eating so there was literally not much of a wait time. The kitchen staff and service staff were on point, they didn't miss a beat. We were a large group so to avoid delays, most of us ordered from the daily special menu. I ordered The Teriyaki Grilled Chicken breast paired with a side of Red Rice, a side of Stewed tomatoes and okra and a Corn bread. The red rice was savory, it included peppers, onions, cajun seasonings and bits of smoked sausage. The grilled chicken breast was bursting with flavors as if it was marinated in a sweet & flavorful marinade then seasoned with garlic, pepper, and salt. Every morsel of the grilled chicken breast was Juicy & succulent. The Teriyaki sauce added the eye rolling euphoria to my mouth. The Stewed Tomatoes and Okra were a delicious comfort food combo without the slime. My cornbread was tender, sweet and cakey almost like a delicious homemade cinnamon cake. My food was well plated with beautiful placement of each item without looking thrown together or sloppy. My only complaint is the small portions. My husband ordered the Fried Pork Chop paired with homemade macaroni and cheese, Broccoli & Cheese casserole, and corn bread. The fried pork chop lacked seasoning but it did not take away from the crispiness on the outside and juiciness on the inside. His macaroni and cheese was perfectly cheesey & buttery, without feeling gummy and the browned cheese topping was to die for. His final comfort food side was the Broccoli and Cheese casserole a hearty side dish loaded with cheesey goodness! Delicious!!! Food was horrible. The coleslaw tasted sour. My husband had the shrimp and grits all you tasted was salt. I ordered the crab cakes they were small and tasted like they came out of the frozen section of a store. Extremely disappointed stopped there on our way to hotel after a long day driving.
