The young man working with her was friendly and professional. My beer had a fun name, Carnival lights. It had a ton of flavor. I am a big Fat Lady fan. This is my go-to spot for somewhere easy to hang out and have a few drinks. The bartenders are all very friendly and efficient and there's a decent variety of local beers. I love that I can bring my own food- it's so nice to get takeout from one of the local places, while your friends can all get different types of food. I guess I've reached close to regular status at Fat Lady Brewing. I go nearly once a week for their Wednesday Quizzo (which starts at 7PM if you're interested). While I felt their operations were a bit shaky immediately after they took over for Bald Birds, they have really found their footing and are a great addition to main street. So, they don't have any food. Well, they have snacks for sale, but nothing big to eat. However, that is not a problem since they let you bring in anything you want from the neighborhood restaurants and there are plenty of carry out options. Beyond their own brews, they typically have a few other options on tap. Since I pretty much stick to ciders or sours when it comes to beers, I initially worried they wouldn't have anything for me, but week after week they always have an option. They also do mixed drinks! As for what to do while you are there, much like Bald Birds it is a relax and enjoy type of place. You can play games (BYO) or watch the game. When the upstairs is open, you'll have more options like foosball. I already mentioned Quizzo and keep an eye out for other programming. Staff is awesome. Friendly and easy to talk to. They occasionally have a Quizzo team (they can't win but play along) and seem to be smart too. Really no reason not to check Fat Lady out... read more

Fat Lady Brewing first had me with its circus sideshow theme, and upon several more visits, it grew on me for being a fun neighborhood microbrewery with endless charm. Before Fat Lady took ownership, it was my intention to review the property space before since Valero brewed damn fine coffee inside before they moved to a newer location, and on the other side of that the property had an independent workspace back when that was a thing during the pre-covid days. After that Bald Birds Brewing set up a satellite location that showed some promise before they moved on. Through both of those I saw potential in the space and I was happy to see that a brand new brewery was moving into the location. They don't brew their beer on-site, and they do have some guest taps from other local breweries. But I do appreciate the circus theme and well-rounded varieties that beers like Giant Jim and Clowning Around offer, and the beers from the likes of Von C and Mainstay Independent round out some good options. Add in some cocktails and wine options from local distilleries and wineries and you have plenty to imbibe on. Unless its for a special event, Fat Lady doesn't have their own food options. But that's not a bad thing since you can bring your own from other places and options like Pizza Jawn and Han Dynasty are close by. special nights include everything from trivia and D&D nights to live music and theater productions. But on a laid-back night, it's perfect for drinking a beer and playing one of their many board games. read more

I stopped in for a beer after dinner in Manayunk recently. I was happy to see a new brewery open up in the area and was excited to give it a try. The tap list was good for a new brewery. Not too many options to choose from, but far from a "just starting out" list. I was a huge fan of the Vanishing Act coffee porter. It hit all the right notes of being a thick dark tasty beer, but far from overpowering. I was hoping to take some home with me but they were out of any take-home options like crowlers, so that was a little bit of a bummer for me when I was there - but hey, all that means is I get to go to the brewery again! Yay! They also offered options from guest breweries to help round out the selection, with places like Vault Brewing. And while this isn't a review for Vault, I am also a big fan of theirs - So at the very least, Fat Lady is making good friends in the industry! The person working the bar seemed like a legitimately nice person who seemed eager to talk beer with myself and everyone who popped in, which helped set a nice tone for the night as well. I like the location - right in the heart of Main Street. So there's plenty of food and shopping options surrounding Fat Lady. Do yourself a favor. Stop in for a beer if you're near Manayunk. So happy we came to the Friday celebration. Every in house beer we have tried has been fantastic, highly recommend the West Coast IPA - High Wire. Hoppy and Smooth. I really wanted to like this place, as I like to drink and support locally brewed beer. The in-house beer that I had was pretty good (I gave it a good rating on Untappd). The fact that it was $9 (8 + tax, rounded up?) and served in a PLASTIC CUP was a real turn-off, hence the 2 stars (beer 4, service 1 = 2.5 stars, rounded down for the price). It was late and maybe they didn't want to wash any more glasses??? They did have glassware. Regardless, it's a poor excuse for a brewery to serve its brew like I'm at a picnic. I briefly went upstairs because I could hear live music. I wasn't overly impressed with the jam session going on there and it didn't seem like the bar there had as many taps. Good beer but awful enough service to where we just wanted to get out of there. Barely got greeted, was sitting for .2 seconds and the bartender was STARING at us waiting for us to quick order without even really letting us even look or settle in. Halfway through our beer, he told us we needed to get up because we were in his way. He told us to move down because he had to remove multiple chairs. We drank our beers and left. This is a great spot to stop for a drink. The bartenders were all friendly, and they have a bunch of games to play too (jenga, monopoly, cards games, Nsync uno- for those NSync fans!). They offer a bunch of different beers and other alcoholic beverages as well. They don't have food so you can bring your own, which is a really great option. I visited this establishment tonight and there was a man playing some AMAZING music on their piano strictly from memory and it was beautiful. Honestly, some of the best I've heard in awhile. It was a vibe and I was really enjoying myself. That is, until they made him stop so they could turn on The Bachelorette for two guests. Fat Lady is in Town and has a lot to offer. She's here now, not even a year old and the momentum is growing. This is quite different than most bars I've ever been to and I love the circus theme, coupled with the motto "come one one, come all" and "come as you are, come as you want to be." There are plenty of fun nights planned from quizzo, to jazz night, to monthly drag brunch and a 1920's SpeakEasy. The vibe is fun. The owners are welcoming. Great staff! Great beers! Great drinks! Games to play, of many kinds! There's also a TV for that sports fan. Fat Lady goes the extra step and there's much to look forward to in the pipeline. I've brought many of my friends, of all kinds and everyone felt welcome..loving the place. I look forward to them getting the cafe up and running but in the interim, here and there, there tends to be yummy treats ranging from home baked chocolate chip cookies, to charcuteries, to mini pizzas, cotton candy, popcorn, and chocolates. I love that you can bring your own food and enjoy whatever may be happening on any given night or go on a quiet night and just hang. Even Santa visited for a day. An occasional dog too! Plenty of space and safety around COVID with the implementation of protocols and other assurances from proper ventilation, and a high quality air filtration system. This is one of my happy places to go to regularly so don't be surprised if you run into me there since I'm there often enough! What the Fat Lady has to offer is amazing!
