On the way out of town from a Norwich graduation and seeing the covered bridges, we were looking for any lunch place open on a Sunday. O'Maddi's was very busy and we could see why! Luckily, there was a six seater open, so we set out things down and went up and ordered. The manager/owner woman was awesome. So funny and kind. She later even stopped back over to make sure things were still great and refill my mom's drink, because, mother's day. We loved her! I got the avocado turkey melt, someone else ordered the avocado grilled cheese and the ultimate grilled cheese. Can't remember the rest but everyone raved about their meal! Also the sweet potato tots were awesome with the maple dipping sauce. Love places like this that thrive in small communities. The food and service is always a testament to why!

The dirty bird split w sides of horseradish and cranberry mayo.

Husband and I stopped in this small town on the way to Burlington for a wedding. It's so old school New England! So glad we stopped in o'Maddi's! Split The Salty bird panini - turkey, bacon, cheddar, perfectly grilled on delicious bread. You get the choose your mayo so we got a side of horseradish and a side of cranberry. Was honestly one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! Service was great - so warm and friendly, all seemed to enjoy working together. Like a family. Bathroom and decor definitely leave something to be desired, but the food is so amazing it's undoubtedly worth the stop!

White chocolate raspberry scone and ample mug of coffee.

It's ok for Northfield standards. The opening hours are not conducive for everyday dining. The food is hit or miss.

BLUF: food was pretty good, service lacking. Awesome location…read more Three of us went for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Don't worry about six people there ahead of us. We chose to sit on the outdoor patio which is by far the best place to sit. Get to hear the sounds of the river going by. This dining location is the best thing about the store. We ordered a turkey sandwich, a vegetarian wrap, and some chicken tenders. The food itself was actually pretty tasty, nothing special but certainly not bad. What kind of was odd was the service. So they said they would bring her food out to us and someone came out with three wrap sandwiches put them on the table and said if you want utensils or napkins they're inside. Just seen God to us that it you're going to say you're going to bring food to the table you can bring out some napkins and utensils. The food itself was very expensive. Lunch for three of us came out to you $71 and all he just got was one sandwich or wrap and one bottled non-alcoholic drink. I'd go back if I was close by with friends and looking for a nice place to sit and eat but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there

Yesterday was the perfect opportunity to go, as I often times am in Barre when they are closed. I had the soup of the day, a Tonkatsu Pork Ramen described as a "rich pork broth, porchetta, wild mushrooms, fresh ramen." He'd asked me if I wanted a soy egg, which I should have asked what that was; I assume it was a fake egg versus an egg infused with soy sauce (next time, I will inquire), so I politely declined. It was a copious bowl of rich flavor: the porchetta was outstanding. The broth itself lacked a little flavor, initially, as I think I needed to mix the seasonings more. Once I did, YUM! My friend got the The Granite City, which is house maple-bourbon turkey, cheddar, cranberry mayo, LTO on cranberry pecan whole wheat. He asked if he could have it toasted (it was so chilly outside and we'd skied all morning) and Stefano said they don't normally do so, but sure, why not. My friend said it was delicious. Stefano later told us that he hadn't thought about toasting it before, as no one had ever asked, but he bet it was good. He was also really nice; he sells the Maple Sap Soda that I cannot find elsewhere and he was willing to sell us a six-pack. I considered it and then kind of forgot. I was tired from the cold and skiing. The food is great and the cafe is toasty and warm. I highly recommend.

I have stopped here a million times for coffee, beer and other staples when in Waitsfield for ski…read moretrips at my ski club, whose lodge is local. But this past fall, our visit there took the cake! We arrived at the lodge and discovered that the entire supply of blankets had been sent to the cleaners. This is Vermont, people! Blankets are necessary! There weren't any stores nearby that were open, so we were thinking we'd make due with our jackets and hope for the best. We also thought some beer might help, so we stopped by the Village Grocery for supplies (they have a really good beer and wine selection, btw.) While mentioning our plight to one of the guys who works there, he was kind enough to call the owner. The owner actually went out of his way to drive miles away to his home and come back with blankets for us. I couldn't believe it. His over-the-top hospitality to out-of-towners blew me away. I still so grateful and will always remember this kind gesture. I learned that his father ran the store back in the day, so it is a family legacy, which is so cool in this day of corporate greed . More importantly, I also love this store!!! They have a great selection of groceries, including local Vermont maple syrup, a nice coffee selection, super cute deli (serving breakfast and lunch sandwiches etc. until 3pm, I think) and plenty of other good stuff too. If you're lucky and happen to be there on the right day, you can score some Heady Topper or Lawson's Finest Liquids, and the staff are always so genuine and friendly. Stop by if you're in town!

It is WAY more than just a convenience store, although it is that, as well They have the best beer selection around--an entire walk in cooler with a broad selection of beers from all over. Wowser! Their deli has great food either cooked to order or serve-yourself hot dishes like chili and Mac and Cheese. After hours for the deli, you can still get a nice set of selections, including my favorite--their deviled eggs. And pretty soon, the serve-yourself creemee machines will be up and running for the season. Did I mention their specials? Including the annual lobster boil? Oh, and they were the first gas station in the Valley to offer ethanol-free gas. Plus, they give back a percentage of gas sales to a local charity each month. The VG is truly a gem! I'm so glad they are here and hope they will be--FOREVER!
