Walked in at 9:48 pm on a saturday evening (establishment doesn't close until 2 AM) after checking to make sure they were open and still serving food. Asian hostess at the front told me "the kitchen doesn't close until 10, but i don't like to put in orders 15 minutes before it closes" and i said, "so it's closed then already?" she said "mmmm well depends on what you order". mind you there were no customers in the establishment, and it doesn't close until 2:00 am. you would think they would welcome service of any kind, but maybe because it was two black women asking to order food? i'm not sure. either way i was rubbed the wrong way completely. when we decided we were going to leave, she said absolutely nothing to us on the way, which further confirmed that she did not want to serve us at all in the first place. i'm extremely appalled because i've lived in the neighborhood for a while as a fellow business owner and i will NEVER come here again, nor will i recommend any prospective mutual clients. do better. read more

Chris the British guy is a welcoming host. He was polite and asked me what i wanted. He recommend the buttermilk chicken sandwich. That was the best chicken sandwich i ever ate. The bun was toasted had pickles lettuce tomato red onion and hot sause. The chicken was super moist. The fries were fried perfectly and had chili powder on them. After helping a friend move into his new place on Covert Street, we decided to get brunch at Father Knows Best. This combination cafe and bar is quaint and hip, and, according to our waiter, it's also a popular hook-up spot. Just food for me, thank you. We started at a table in the backyard but the brutal sun and heat forced us inside. I ordered the cheddar scallion biscuits and two eggs over medium. My friend opted for the breakfast sandwich, while my girlfriend went for the chicken sandwich (served w/ fries). It took a little while for our food to arrive, but we received it right before I started to get impatient. The biscuits were delicious and the eggs delivered the protein and fat that my body needed. Nicely done! I also got to eat half of my girlfriend's sandwich, and it was delicious. While all of our items were fine, hers was the best. If I lived in the neighborhood I could see this being a regular spot. The wings are breaded which I don't prefer but these were still crunchy with crispy skin so I actually ate them, tough to find edible wings in NYC. Awoke this morning liking for a hip breakfast joint featuring something new. Naturally I gravitated towards Yelp to find what I was looking for and that's when I discovered this hidden gem. A few blocks from Bushwick Ave on Wilson, this restaurant features a very organic decor: wooden tables, wooden chairs, wooden benches, etc. It also possesses a very humble ambience which is very calm and satisfying. Due to the pandemic, I had a sit in the rear which was very accommodating. There was also a nice tarp like cover to provide some shade from the sun but still provide an ample amount of illumination and I never felt claustrophobic. The waiter/server Johnny was very courteous, polite, and informative. He also possesses a great sense of humour and did not waste anytime in taking my order nor presenting my meal. As a treat, he relayed to me that since it was my first visit, I should try the Cheddar Biscuits with the Honey Chipotle butter. Did I mention the butter takes two days to make? For my actual meal, I ordered the Breakfast Burrito with Chorizo and it came with a nice garden salad on the side. What a breakfast! Thanks to the gorgeous mural that capes the entire front exterior of Fathers, this spot caught my eye before even stepping inside. Then upon entering and seeing the rustic brick walls, hip decor, and cool art fixtures, I was instantly in love. I immediately thought "wow, this is the place I'd be a weekly (maybe daily) regular at if I lived here." Fathers serves up a delicious looking brunch menu from 9:00am-4:30pm and then transitions into an equally delicious looking dinner menu from 5:00pm-12:00am. As I had just eaten breakfast, I didn't get any food, but I did peek at the menu and everything looked delish! On top of that they also have a mean cocktail list. If cocktails aren't your thing, they do have a cafe that serves up non-alcoholic beverages, coffees, and teas. Our server was so kind and friendly and even though we were there to work on our laptops and not to get food, she still diligently checked in on us. I'm not in New York often, but if I'm ever back, I'd especially love to pop in here again during one of the nights they have live music going on. I got the grilled chicken sandwich on ciabatta and added bacon. The bread was so soft and everything was so fresh. I wasn't crazy about the amount of paprika on the fries but they all got ate, who's complaining? I also ordered the house rose and my husband got the fresh lemonade. Warmly decorated, we came here knowing a DJ would be there on that night and we had a hankering to dance. Well, turns out the DJ was more on the lo-fi side (it was really great, just couldn't dance to it). So we ended up just hanging out for a bit because we liked the whole atmosphere of the place. How long has this place been open?? This is a great space, great decor and seating options inside and out, including a backyard patio. I found this place from an upcoming Yelp Elite event and wanted to check it out since I couldn't attend. Was really hopeful, however there are a lot of small things happening that are causing things to run inefficiently. The staff seem either stressed, confused, or clueless and struggle to keep up. There were too many things going on to organize then nicely in a paragraph, so instead I'm listing the pros and cons of our experience and things I noticed below. I hope the owner will read the reviews they are getting about the service and operations and make these basic improvements. I hope they get it together so that we can come enjoy this place next time. Pros: - back patio seating with shade, indoor tables and bar seating, and front outdoor seating with umbrellas - Good vibes, looks like they have live music Cons: - When we first sat down, the table text to us had only half of food delivered; ticket from the kitchen was missing a bunch of items that they had ordered - Tables not prepared, missing menu QR code, missing silverware and napkins. Saw two other tables that had to ask for them and wait with their food; there are little caddies for condiments, silverware and napkins, but they are not being replenished when tables are cleared and reset - Menu QR code on the table says order at the bar, but if you go the bar they say to wait at your table ‍ - Seems like the server and food runner are constantly discussing where food should go, why there's food missing - Guests aren't getting checked on when their food or drinks arrive, there were a couple of instances where guests were bringing their food or drink up to the bar to get problems resolved The food: - Arnold Palmer is very concentrated and tart, could use a lighter touch or splash of simple syrup - We ordered the cheddar scallion biscuits, vegan pancake, and the mushroom hash. The biscuits and mushroom hash were tasty, but the pancakes weren't quite hitting the mark as they were a little too stodgy. Overall, food was not bad but doesn't make up for the rest of the experience *I have to amend my review. After finishing our meal and submitting this review, we waited and waited for our check with several attempts to flag down our server. It's really unacceptable for a server to hold their guests hostage by not allowing them to pay the bill and leave, and makes a bad customer experience even worse. Not only did our server never come by to let us pay the bill, she never once checked up on us if our drinks or food was good, if we wanted to refill drinks, if we needed water, etc. Totally unacceptable. Changing my previously 2-star review to 1-star. We won't be wasting our time or money here again. read more
