Father Time took care of my very old 1800-1900's year old family heirloom. A very rare French clock that was given to me after my Grandmothers passing. Paul Niess, is absolutely delightful. I did not know anything about this clock. The clock had never worked while I owned it, but I do remember it as a child and it worked then. I made an appointment to bring in the clock ( no charge) he looked it over and told me I had a gem! He would be able to fix it and bring it back to life. The cost was so fair and reasonable. I just picked it up from Paul and to my delight the clock looks amazing! So clean, inside & out. He gave me a very well needed instruction (verbally & with paper directions) showed me by example how to operate the clock and how to troubleshoot any issues. Told me to call him if i had any problems & he would come to my house & fix it. Inside I was crying with enormous emotion that I now have a beautiful piece of nostalgia, to remember my dear Grandmother. I went in because my new Versace wAtch was off by two hours!!! I could not find my key. I remember seeing this place and remembering the cute jewelry antique shops in South Berkeley. As a new resident it's hard to navigate this town and find out stuff. But I had seen it on the way to the jewelry repair place next door. After going to Seattle and San Francisco in the past month I figured it was "Time" to figure it out. Here we go Father Time! I walked in and was greeted with delight. I have had Paul do a basic clean and lube on my brother's Rolex, which was done with a free estimate, expert work, and a one year warranty. I also had him restore my classic vintage Rolex, which is over 50 years old, and given all he had to do, he got it done as efficiently as possible and with very fair pricing. first of all, yelp lists this business with an "estimates within two hours" button, which the owner was unaware of. that being said, I spoke to the owner on the phone and he said to bring the clock for an estimate. I got there and a woman at the counter didn't seem to care that I had a conversation with the owner, asking me to bring the clock in. She just kept repeating that there is an eight month back up, which was not mentioned to me on the phone. The owner was kind enough to give me advice on how to fix my clock myself. There is no better person when it comes to watch knowledge and repair than Paul. I have sent 3 Rolex's (submariner and air king ranging 1960-1993 vintage), along with a 1960's Omega Deville. We looked for an IBM time clock for a long time, they are rare to find on the West Coast. During Christmas preview in 2012 we walked into this store and found the perfect clock. We were so impressed with Paul and his knowledge of clocks. He had the history of this clock from where it was manufactured and who had previously owned it. We purchased this clock, which is quite large, and Paul came out and installed it. We have needed a repair only once, and he was great on his follow up. I also owned an antique mantel clock that would no longer wind up. I had it repaired once at another clock store locally and the repair was not done right. I brought this clock to Paul and he repaired it four years ago and it still works perfectly. While he had this clock for repair he researched the history of this clock and I found out where and when it was manufactured; it was in Germany during the war. Paul's skill is rare and in demand.
