I ventured out here for specific ingredients in a kebab recipe. They had a wonderful selection of middle eastern goods such as oils, seasonings, and meats. I think what turned me off was the customer service or lack thereof. It seemed that the employees did not want to help me, but a young lady finally came to help me search for an item and then check me out. I wanted to get some of the fresh desserts but there several flies flying around the inside of the cabinets that the desserts are housed in and that turned me off. The place is good with a lots of good middle eastern foods, but please check your receipt before you leave the store. Once you leave the store and you find out that extra item in your receipt that you didn't buy, you will have problem getting credit for it. I am in the middle of this issue. I love this place. I have been coming here for years. Both their homemade food and imported Middle Eastern are delicious, staff is friendly and helpful. Their Syrian gold jewelry is to die for!! They really have everything you need here and more. And I LOVE how they have a parking lot in Paterson where is it's soo hard to find decent parking! If you like to cook and enjoy Mideastern Food I highly recommend Fattal's. They have all sorts of interesting food and spices. I never leave without a least a bag of Egyptian Rice (try it, it's delicious) and Bulgar Wheat. They carry plenty of desserts as well as figs and nuts. They also sell all sorts of Mideast Cheese and Syrian and Egyptian sausage. They are on Main Street in Patterson which is fun to explore. If you are looking for a good place to eat, drive a couple of blocks over to Toros in Clifton at their Hazel Street locations...one of my favorite places to eat! read more

Great store, large and clean, tons of desserts and breads. Highly recommend any of the pita and the baklava. great selection of cheese and olives, gotta try some halloumi on the grill. The butcher is really good too, minced lamb and beef seasoned for kabobs, under $6/lb. There's also a little spot to order prepared food, the little pies are really good, like mini pizza's, under $4. Gold and Halal meat. If you ever wanted to complete all your shopping in one place - Fattal's would be the place. Where else would you find a jewelry shop, meat shop, bakery, grocery store, general store, restaurant, and pastry shop all rolled into one? Upon walking into the bakery (how on earth did they choose to call themselves a bakery, of all the many options available to them?) I was amused to see women buying earrings while kids and couples were eating Lahmajeen and Shawarma. The store had all kinds of packaged goods originating or popular in the Middle East: from pita bread to olive oil, spices to hookahs... I stopped by the pastry section and got some Baklava, Beloria, Harissa and some Ghraybeh cookies. The Harissa (Semolina and Honey cake) was dry, as was the Beloria (stringy dough crust filled with Pistachio). The Baklava only interested me from the point of construction as apparently a Syrian baklava is tilted more towards the nutty side as opposed to syrup or dough. So, visualizing a piece of baklava split up into 8 equal sections, the version at Fattal's would only have two-eighths dedicated to the pastry dough and the remaining six-eighths to nuts. A nearby Turkish version would instead reverse the ratio and have less than two-eighths for nuts, while a nearby Palestinian one would fall in-between but have less layers of dough than the Turkish version. My rating only reflects an evaluation of their pastry and cookies section, for to me life is more interesting than the math problems in high school that intended to develop the skill of figuring out the volume of substance needed to fill a container with defined dimensions. Clearly they have a lot to offer their many loyal customers, given the volume of cars that occupy their dedicated parking lot. read more

First things first: everyone that works here is friendly and eager to help. Now, about that food... There are many fantastic items on offer from Fattal's. I find myself unable to leave without grabbing some kibbi, feta, houmos, pickled beets, or olives just to have in the house. The spinach pies may possibly have crack in them, and I don't care a bit. The sweets are delectable. The halva and the baclava should be a moral imperative for anyone who worships at the altar of dessert. But what truly brings me back time and again is the pita. They must sell these by the truck load, because I have never once walked in when they weren't still so recently out of the oven that the inside of the bag had fogged from the steam. These soft, round, brown lovelies are absolutely delicious, and perfectly good just by themselves. Confession: I never make it home without breaking into the bag and devouring at least two. So not only is this place a bakery, but its a mini-supermarket, mini jewelry shop, meat store, and my favorite component: an eaterie! A very popular one actually. We were there Saturday for a brief pick-me-up lunch and we ordered basic chicken shawerma and spinach and cheese patty..the shawerma with some added spices was incredible! Their falafel is fresh, their tabouli is constantly being moved off the shelf to be served on to-go platters and for eat-ins... I am not a fan of the bakery or restaurant section of this store but I stop in several times a month for the meat. Great cuts of lamb and beef offal that I cook myself. Butchers are so nice also. I also browse the aisles and they have a very wide variety of ingredients from the Middle East. I regularly get the bagged semolina from here. I also get the boxed dates from here during Ramadan. With horrible parking on this street its great that they have a private lot. It could use a repaving but its definitely worth the bumpy ride. :) read more

The bakery here is very good. They have a vast selection of sweets here, which I like. I do feel like they don't have as big of a selection on their grocery items as other markets I have been to. I do like how they have a nice amount of parking spots, given how hard it is to find parking in Paterson. I do recommend coming here if you're in the mood for sweets but if you're looking for a middle eastern market with a big selection, then there are better places for that. I've been there a couple of times and gave it 5 stars , but last Saturday I took some friends from overseas there and I was disappointed in the food. The service is wonderful but the shawarma was tough and needed some seasoning or salt. The lejmehmajin had no flavor, the zetu zataar was dry and like sand and the kidbeh was missing something. I have bought them early in the morning as they come out of the kitchen and the leaves are hard and the stuffing is dry. How can they be so hard and dry when they've just been made?? My review is based on the variety of bread that I purchased from this place. I love their bread. Fattal's pita bread comes in a pack of 12 for a $1.50 and I went back there every other day to replenish my supply. I wish I could remember the names of the other variety of bread that they stock but they escape me. They also have a wide selection of tinned hummus and other things like baba ghanoush and all. Tried a can of hummus from Lebanon for a dollar and was not disappointed at all. The place also has people eating in all the time so I would say that is a good sign as well :) read more

I've only been here a handful of times but so far from what I've seen it looks like a good place. They have a huge variety of foods and other stuff which is nice. I bought some of the sweets for the first time today. I got some of the "bird's nest" sweets and found STRINGS OF HAIR in 2 of them! I didn't see anything wrong with the other sweets I got but I'm just glad I bought them for my house and not for guests like I had planned. Definitely better baklava than Alhamadanya Sweets and folks are very nice and helpful. They honored their yelp free mini spinach or cheese offer unlike Naysef Sweets, who did not honor their yelp offer. Their chicken shwarma was pretty good better than the beef/lamb.
