Wow! I've had shrimp and grits all along the Gulf Coast and even sampled some here in North Carolina. I NEVER expected to find the BEST I've ever had this far south in OBX. But I did. Fatty's is an unassuming looking place on the right side of the road coming south on the way to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. They have ice cream which we'll stop for later today. My wife had the Teriyaki shrimp salad (which I finished for her) and it was pretty tasty as well. If you're hungry coming South from Nags Head, don't eat till you get here. It's worth the wait. I will be judging shrimp and grits against Fatty's from now on; and I expect I'll find others to be wanting. read more

I almost thought they were closed because the place is nice and large, but signage in Hatteras in general is not the best. Once I did find the entrance, wow! The food all looks delicious, although I haven't eaten yet or don't have the chance to eat everything. From what I gather, the customers love it. They are reasonably priced and friendly. Overall was ok, but the grits were horrible. I turned the bowl upside down and not a drop came out, that's how thick they were not to mention they just plain tasted horrible. The restaurant did let us swap the grits for hashbrowns, which were good. The sweet tea was brought out hot in a glass that had no ice at all, which they brought ice when requested, which then promptly melted because the tea was so hot. Best place we've eaten so far in Cape Hattaras. We got the steak and eggs and the lil' fattys - very affordable price for some high quality breakfast. The steak (medium rare) was perfect and the sausage biscuits were delicious. The hostess was very pleasant (southern hospitality perhaps?) and made us feel at home. This place was clean, jammin and lively on Mother's Day. Pre-season OBX doesn't afford a whole lot of choices for breakfast, so we drove up from Hatteras village. We had the homemade donuts to start. We had a chocolate glazed and a sugar twist. Both were delicious. The coffee was kind of meh to me, but I do like my coffee like the muck at the bottom of Pamlico sound. They informed us that they had just switched kitchens and were short on menus. Luckily, the breakfast menu isn't all that complicated and certainly worth reading through. I opted for Chicken and waffles because I don't see them often. E got biscuits and sausage gravy. Both dishes were huge and really hit the spot. I ate all of mine, with a few bits of biscuits and gravy. I think the staff was still ironing out a few kinks, but I'm happy to have been a part of it. Definitely stop here if you're in the area. It's well worth the meal. Oh, and the decor is pretty funny too. Think Internet memes printed out and hung up. There are some funny ones up there! read more

Amazing food. Signature burger was the best burger I have had in my life. My wife loved her shrimp Po Boy. Her sister got the Shrimp and Grits and loved it. The staff were warm and friendly and the walls were plastered with the most entertaining, humorous posters. In fact, I was waiting for some to leave so I could read the posters near their tables. The food was okay in a pinch but nothing to bring me back. They used American cheese slices versus cheddar for the potatoes and cheese. Some of my wife's food was burned.
