Which I have had many times. It was over cooked, dry and burnt. I contacted them via Facebook with a message and picture to let them know what the kitchen is sending out. Stopped in here while we were in town for a tour of NIU because it had good ratings on Yelp and this place was hopping for a Thursday afternoon! Once again Yelp pointed me in the direction of a great restaurant where everything was delicious. We started with the cheese curds, which were perfect. I had the Wayne Pretzky with fries on the side for my meal. I asked for honey mustard and ranch on the side, so I could dip my fries in the ranch and dip my sandwich in the honey mustard. Both were so creamy and delicious. The portions were big, so I was able to save half of my meal and eat it for lunch the next day. I wish I had a Fatty's near where I live!!!! Who knows though, maybe my kid will choose to go to NIU and I'll get to eat here when I come to visit him ;) read more

Girls night out for a 7th heaven Concert in DeKalb during corn fest and tradition is that we always stop at Fatty's either before or after the concert. They've expanded since my daughter was in college, so I've never had to wait. Plenty of seating indoor and out! We had a group of 5 and our waitress, Alex, was fabulous! So cheerful, always had a smile on her face and sooo accommodating!! We ordered drinks. My daughter and I shared a 32 oz rum bucket, which was perfection! Another girl ordered the Lynchburg lemonade. Soooo good! The appetizers are huge proportions as well as the entrees. We also shared a chicken strip meal with their FAMOUS FRIED POTATO SALAD. It's spicy, unusual and delicious. My family has not been together for over four years. We researched and tried to find a halfway mark for us to get together for Mother's Day. We came to Fattys Pub in Grille. It was the worst service and worst food we had ever eaten ever! It took one hour for us to get our food, and when it came, it was all cold. They served waffles and chicken and the waitress told us they had no syrup. Who serves waffles and chicken without syrup? The soup came cold hot food came cold. It was a complete disaster! Me and my husband used to love this place until a recent Eat Street order gone bad! (Pictures included).. I ordered a pork tenderloin and they had the option of Mac and cheese instead of fries for a $1.99 up-charge so I happily accepted! (I'm not a potato person)... So I get my food and there's French fries in my box, not a big deal, I noticed they were new to using the Eat Street app so I gave them a call. I was transferred to a manager I said "yeah l just got my Eat street order and I paid the up-charge for Mac and cheese instead of fries but you guys sent me fries."... the manager was SO RUDEAnd argumentative.."Ma'am we don't have Mac and cheese so you need to take that up with Eat Street, we didn't get any money from Eat Street!"... she continued to argue with me I said, "if the item isn't on the menu why wouldn't you call to suggest an alternate side?" She replied, "I don't know what to tell you! I looked over the menu and I didn't put Mac and cheese! Today is our first day with Eat Street!" I even suggested a credit for the next time my husband and I are in there to make it easier so I didn't have to call or have Eat Street being another side dish out. The manager very begrudgingly replied "sure, I could give you the 2 bucks!"... Only when I told her she was very rude and argumentative did she up her original offer from $2 to a sandwich. We stopped in this afternoon to meet friends for drinks. After a couple drinks I asked for the check. The waitress brought the check, I put down $40 and said could you bring us two more drinks please. The waitress grabbed the $40 and brought us our drinks. I asked for our change from the $40 from our previous drinks and appetizer, not knowing she was going to take out for the last two drinks. This waitress looked at me and said "I'll bring you your $2.18"..... first off don't assume you are getting a tip and next, I not only left her a $4 tip but also the $2.18. What a rude waitress. Considering we had 14 families with 14 growing boys and food came out fast and all checks were spot on perfect - had us coke back again Fast forward to Sunday. We return. Scratch everything I just said. Cold food. Took over 1 he 15 to get food. Boys got their food last. Fatty's is the place to be if you are an NIU student or Dekalb resident! I have spent my entire college career eating and drinking at this establishment so I will review it as both a bar and a restaurant. There are many things I like and don't like about this place, but I can for sure say that many laughs and memories have happened here - making it the place that I will go out of my way to stop by if I am ever going back to visit my alma mater. I think some reasons this place is so successful is: #1. The location is perfect! Walking distance from campus and very close to many of the off-campus housing buildings. #2. They are one of the ONLY sit-down restaurants in the area that is NOT a chain with GENEROUS seating options and DECENT food. #3. They are also one of the only bars in the area that willingly hosts large public events for the college students (besides Molly's). Don't you forget that you are surrounded by cornfields and possibly the only reason you're going here is because you have nowhere better or convenient to go to. I have one experience here that I will never forget, and it will probably be the most negative thing I will ever have to say on Yelp, but I must mention it as it has changed a part of my life. I am a picky eater, always have been and probably always will be. There is a really limited number of foods that I enjoy eating and I used to love coming to Fatty's and getting a big, juicy burger. I always ordered a Ryne Sandburger WELL-DONE. On one particular day, my burger came medium-rare. I decided to try to eat it anyways and that was a regretful decision. I remember every bite I was struggling to put it down because the texture grossed me out. NEVER ever have I ever had another burger since that day. Looking past the fact that I just lost another beloved food amongst the short list of things that I still eat - I want to say that I have still returned here countless times. While Fatty's did cook my burger wrong, I think the problem was more me being picky than Fatty's messing up. So, I guess I'll still recommend anyone to come here and get a burger. The signature food here is the Fatty's Cajun potato salad which is FIRE and unlike anything else I've had before. They give you the option of getting fries or the potato salad with your meal, but they also allow you to get half fries and half potato salad if you want both, which I always thought was awesome and wished more places offered something like that. Along with a side of potatoes, most meals also give you the option of baked beans or coleslaw - no half and half options here, but both sides are good. I love the somewhat new beer garden/outside seating they have open in the summer. It also is a great place to hangout and drink while the weather is still warmer. They host parties in the back room and have DJ's on weekends/Tuesday's for the college students. I think that everything is priced fairly here and on certain nights they have great drink deals, such as $3 you-call-its! As mentioned before, this is the best place to eat and perhaps the best place to drink in Dekalb... there just isn't very many places nearby to compare it to. Therefore, I will rate it 4/5 stars, but honestly, I want to rate it 3.5/5 bc of my personal experience. read more

Fatty's is an institution in DeKalb. This is the main NIU bar in the area. Great ambience with bands nightly. Outstanding cocktails - I recommend the Huckleberry Lemonade - really unique and tasty. I have never had a bad meal here, from salads to brugers to sandwiches. You have cheated yourself if you don't try the Potato Salad. I normally never eat it as a whole, but this recipe where they fry the potatoes and mix them Cajun seasonings - INCREDIBLE! You can order with a half/half order also (fries/Cole Slaw). Try the Pretzel bites and the beer nuggets - both are fantastic with the dipping sauces. Outstanding salads and many to choose from. Fattys definitely does not cheat you on the portions. This place opened after I graduated from NIU. Probably a good thing - I would not have had the money to pay tuition - I would have spent it all here! We were visiting Dekalb to watch our Grandson play baseball. Our experience was so good we returned the following night. The food was great. Among our favorites are the Fish Fry and the Italian Beef. Friday night was on the patio with live music, Saturday in doors due to rain. The owner brought our smallest (2 yr) fan a cherry after dinner. Great environment, clean and alot of fun. Going in, a NIU alumni, after a football game, ask for a beer menu , since, to quote the manager "they have over 150 beers". After we get the check, every beer we ordered, were all $1 more than the prices listed on the menu. So all the prices on the menu were cheaper than the prices we were charged on our check. When we ask the waitress, she had no idea and she checks with the manager, and confirms that prices are MORE bc of game day. We ask a manager and he says the same. So my question is: why are there prices even on the menu???? You are going to charge everyone on game day $1 more than the listed price on the menu??!! And when confronting the manager, all he has to say, is that he has also asked the owner why they are than listed, and nothing has been changed. So why pass out menus with prices?? We tried this pub on a recommendation from a family member who's a student at NIU, and I was really pleasantly surprised. The bbq pork sandwich was very tasty, the mozzarella sticks were nicely prepared, and the cole slaw was good (though why such a tiny portion?). But the standout was definitely the cajun potato salad. I had no idea what to expect and was really pleased with it, so much so that I took my family's leftover portions home as well! The atmosphere seemed fun for a college bar though we were there kind of early in the evening so I imagine it gets much noisier as the evening progresses. Service was good and attentive too. They have PLENTY of seating, it does get loud but it's a college town bar/ restaurant and would be perfect for Saturday / Sunday game viewing with friends. The rum bucket is also delicious and only 8$ for 32 Oz ! They also have an outdoor patio including an outdoor tiki style type bar. Ooooooh, Fatty's. I've been gone from DeKalb for a solid 6 years, but Fatty's still has the stuff that I love. I was there last weekend for my yearly DeKalb trip (which is NEVER complete without a stop at Fatty's), and Fatty's, you still have the ability to make me drool. The cajun potato salad is still amazing, the kettle chips with jalapeno ketchup are still my favorite, and your beers are still so, so cheap. When I walk into your doors I feel like I'm 21 again (though, after looking around at all the girls wearing Bump-It's in their hair, I realize I'm definitely not).
