It was the Spanish Sauce that brought out the Unami flavor of the fish. Grilled Mackerel is a popular summer dish in Portugal. The fish lowers cholesterol due to its high content of omega-3 fatty acids, according to Google AI. The dish at Fax Chix was so popular today that it sold out within one hour of business opening. We were shopping in the neighborhood and realized we didn't have lunch. Based on a recommendation from a friend we decided to try this place. There is a parking lot which is convenient. Surprising to us that mid -afternoon on a Sunday the restaurant was packed! We added our name to the list and waited 20 minutes or so. So I got half of a chicken. The dark meat was very flavorful. The white meat is still in my refrigerator. It's nice like Portuguese restaurants they bring you olives and bread and butter. The crowd inside was lively and a little bit loud, but they seem like they are regulars, which is always a good sign. So half a chicken with a soda and tip came to just over $20 and they only take cash. Our waittress was very nice even helped pack the good. It is cash only; with that being said, the bill was 79 bucks, so we paid in cash with a hundred-dollar bill and the plan was to leave her the rest for the tip but she never came back with the change so that we can give it to her! Foods great. But that's not everything... This place is so busy and they do nothing to mitigate the massive amount of PEOPLE waiting to sit down at the door. It's packed and uncomfortable. There is also a massive amount of people who are waiting for tables out in their cars. They just keep doing things the same old way and it's gotten to the point where we won't even go there anymore. It would be as simple as taking people's phone numbers to text them when their tables ready. But they don't do that and it's just a DISASTER. We waited 45 minutes for a table we were told a table would take a half hour. Then when we finally sat down there was no chicken. They told us if you want chicken it's another 40 more minutes. Then we see a ton of chicken being delivered out of the kitchen so I'm not really sure what was up with that. It really doesn't appear to be anything special from the outside. And if you think about it, it's name is kind of absurd as well. So just like many others, I've driven by countless times in the past, and never really considered stopping in. But then, thanks to a much appreciated recommendation from Yelp's Gail B, I finally did take notice. And now, it's hard for me to pass by, or even see pictures on Yelp, without feeling the need to go grab one of my favorite dishes from this unique restaurant. So now, let me fill you in on what makes this place so special. First of all, as soon as you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the open kitchen. And because of this, I highly recommend you place a take-out order at the register, the first time you visit. This way, you can walk out in the lobby area and watch the chefs working through the front window. Now, the first thing you'll recognize is what I like to call the "Magic Grill." And to be honest, I'm really not certain if it's how they marinate the items before grilling, or how everything is seasoned, the chef's technique, or if it's the design of the grill itself. Hell, maybe it's all of those things. But what I am certain of, is that anything put on this grill will taste friggin outrageous. Especially if you ask for your items to be cooked somewhat well done. But really, I'm not exaggerating about the grill. As an example, most everyone enjoys a nicely grilled piece of chicken, right?. And, we all have our favorite pieces - I mostly like wings and breasts, but others really enjoy legs and thighs. But here at Fax Chix - I guarantee - you will love every piece of chicken, regardless of what it is. And believe me, if you're a fan of steak, or grilled seafood you gotta come to this joint. I'm telling you, when you put the food here, in your mouth for the first time, you'll understand. WHAT'S GOOD TO ORDER: - The grilled salmon steak is my all time favorite item here. It's tender, seasoned perfectly, and smells outrageous off the grill. - The whole grilled red snapper or branzino is also great, but the branzino has a lot of bones. - Any of the steaks or short ribs are fantastic. - The grilled pork chops or ribs are also very good. - The grilled giant shrimp, or steak and shrimp are a great choice. - As mentioned before, the whole or half grilled chicken is one of the best I've had. - The tacos, or fajitas are not the best I've had, but still very good because of the grilled meats. - The broccoli rabe with garlic is perfectly cooked and delicious. - The spicy seafood soup Sunday special is worth the trip. - Make sure to order a Portuguese bread with your meal. With meats this good, you have to make a sandwich. - If you're going to order in person, or dine-in, definitely check out the specials board in the back. SERVICE / DECOR: The restaurant has a cool Latin festive vibe, with a medium sized dining area and a full bar. And right in front of the kitchen is a refrigerated display case, where you can view the different fresh meats and seafood available to be served that day. When visiting, you'll notice the place is always busy with locals who know just how good the food is here. It definitely seems to be a destination for those looking to relax after a long days work, have a delicious meal, and then maybe a few drinks. When dining in, the waitresses are friendly and helpful. But for some reason, there always seems to be someone different behind the front counter when I visit. And sometimes when I'm trying to place an order, that person may not speak fluent English. But for me, it's all just part of the interesting vibe and charm of this wonderful establishment. PARTING THOUGHTS: As I mentioned before, the outside appearance of the restaurant doesn't really hint at the outstanding quality of the food served inside. But what you will notice, from the moment you get out of your car, is the smell of that magic grill. It's almost like a wonderful invitation to come inside, and have a great meal. Obviously it is very spicy so if that's not something your palate will enjoy I still recommend just getting the plain grilled chicken. My girlfriend and I have been here twice now. The first time we had a sit down dinner - she had a whole branzino while I had grilled chicken.
