This place is the perfect balance of hole in the wall but nice night out type of vibes. The decor screams authentic and fiesta, the servers are all very friendly and helpful, and we love the menu! There is something for everyone, our favorites are the fajitas and the enchiladas. There's even a kids menu so our little guys can enjoy the night out with us. Although I live close I've never went although it's been on my radar for a while . Went on a Saturday . It was surprisingly empty although I'm told that is usually not the case . We were constantly checked on and taken care of . Menu choices were explained . We were starving and ordered nachos and ceviche and both were very good . We both had steak and shrimp fajitas which were great as well. The menu is extensive there is something for everyone . There are three issues I did have . We ordered a pitcher of Margaritas . I believe it was about 40 bucks . The pitcher was about a third filled with ice and not a crazy large pitcher . We ended up ordering another one . The drink glasses were jelly jar types , how about a traditional Margarita glass ? And the glasses came with ice as well ?? Why ? I mean it wasn't a deal breaker , just not the bargain that we might have hoped . They bring you chips and salsa which they refilled . Both were great . But they brought the salsa in a small ramekin that could not accommodate the size of the chip . I can't figure that one out . Lastly the tortilla brought to assemble the fajita was a bit on the small side . Made it a bit harder to put everything together . So you may ask ... why the 4 stars ? Well ..., food and service were really great . They aim to please . I'll go back for sure . Very disappointing. Ordered the Paella. The lobster had a bad taste and smelled rotten. There was literally no lobster meat on the inside of the tail or claw. This food is authentic. So delicious. We ordered chimichangas, flautist and nachos. Everything was so great. The service was attentive and my margarita was fleurons without being too salty. I eat out often but will NOT ever go back to Viva Juan . Let me say that the cleanliness and service was fine. The restaurant had about 8 tvs playing sports ( as if it were a sports bar ) which didn't fare well for a romantic night out with my loved one. Went on a Friday night at 8:45. Kerokoke started at 9pm. There was also a large birthday going on. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. I won't recommend you bring a child because it is very loud in this establishment. Lots of drunk people swearing and acting bazaar. I few people lost in the 80's. It was entertaining. Honestly, I grew up a Latina, so this food for a Mexican owned restaurant deserves honestly 1 star, I should've went to chipotle instead. Steak was tough to eat, rice was dry, the tortilla was sweet and lemons were obviously getting old. We've been to this restaurant many times. Typically a decent meal. This time was dreadfully different. Our server was extremely slow, my margarita was awful. Not sure how a mexican restaurant can make a terrible margarita but they did. As far as the food, I'll start with the good. Had a great experience. I go to school at suffolk it's close by. Nice happy hour 4 to 7, buy one get one . Had a skirt steak taco salad. My favorite kind of steak . This is a very festive place. My fiancé and I came here on a Friday night for dinner. The place was very busy but they seated us right away. There was a large table with a Birthday celebration going on next to us. Our waiter was great. He came over and helped with all my questions and gave suggestions. I ordered a mango margarita with salt on the rim. They put chips and salsa on the table. For our entree we both ordered the Mexican tacos. The Mexican tacos are 3 soft corn tortilla tacos with guacamole, cilantro and a choice of chicken, steak, beef or a mixture and it comes with rice, beans and a side salad. I chose the steak tacos. It was cooked perfect and very tasty. The meal and drinks were great. Our waiter came over numerous times to make sure we had everything we needed.
