If this was a bar it would be a dive bar. Nothing to look at on the outside. The inside is just a notch above but the food is amazing and the owner works the service end and he's the nicest guy ever. I've been before with friends and regretted not being able to take the leftovers because we were headed somewhere. Tonight I'm dining alone and chose the abalone and shrimp soup which is once again amazing. If you're ever this way for lunch or dinner give it a try. Food is not great. But it has been around for a long time in McFarland. So some people like and others don't.

I work in McFarland and was craving GOOD Chinese food. We ordered 4 plates to go for dinner. The Kung Pao chicken had a horrible smell, but I tasted it anyway. It tasted like it smelled! In another plate, we ordered broccoli beef. I'm not sure what we were given but there was no broccoli. The beef tasted just ok. Like, it was edible, that's it. The two other plates were orange chicken. That was dry, not saucy and had no flavor. Also ordered salt and pepper fish. I can't explain what that tastes like. It was just WEIRD! The more I write the angrier I get. I HATE to spend my money on nasty food. This is just disappointing and GROSS! Chowmein was ok and fried rice was good. Yes the food is very inexpensive, but $40 something dollars down the drain is not cool. The smell itself kept us from finishing any one plate, or enjoying the food at all. I'll be throwing this food away in our outside dumpster so it doesn't smell up my house! read more

Feel like spicing it up? You can add a small to-go container of that delicious chili sauce. Well todays visit was extra special, while picking up my prescription at the nearby Rite Aid, i knew I had to stop and get dinner at Fay Yin. Well immediately after paying for my meal, I observed both Lin & Robert (co-owner/owner) having a discussion) then second's later they approach me and show me this portable charger, (my portable charger), that I've been looking for days without luck. They asked me if it was mine, AND IT WAS! Apparently i was there a couple days ago and forgot my portable by one of the tables. the worse you can go to. we ordered some food and the was the bean sprout was rotten, it shouldn't have black roots and green spots on it. The rice was also nasty, it smelt as if it was sitting on the rice cook for days. This restaurant is a hidden gem. Located in the small town of McFarland, the location is nonassuming to say the least, and the lot and building are over a decade old. Nevertheless, the family that owns it has learned to cook according to recipes that have been passed down for years, and remain among the best these days. The service is polite, and there is no problem with "customizing" dishes to suit your preferences. I often get the spicy chicken wings, (made w custom sauce that makes them similar to a less sweet general's chicken), cooked a little crispier, and ask for extra veggies with the mongolian beef. Rough on the outside but a polished jewel in the inside. It doesn't get more authentic than this, and boy oh boy this topped a lot of the usual chain restaurant food. Just by the look, smell and taste of it anybody with that veteran tongue for food you can tell it was made from scratch. First glance at this place and you would think you hit a detour or the wrong place but I am at times never too judgmental. It's a diamond in the rough and deserves more ratings and reviews than what it has. The owner and I had a great conversation and was very social and a happy man. His wife was very nice to me and my family, we didn't even asked for nothing and everything was offered to us. Down to the refills of soft drinks, extra napkins and to-go plates. Just by eyeing us they knew what we needed. Building, interior and menu need all updating really bad but it's a clean place but feeling you get is that you just stepped into a portal back to 1977 and the BeeGee's, "Staying Alive" record playing in the background type of feeling. Back to the food, the food was superb. It was the phenomenal, so many words to describe it. It wasn't that pre-cooked, Costco boxed-Panda Express sauce bottle that you would get at 60% of most restaurants. Before the lockdown I was working at McFarland and while I was driving I was hungry so I want to this restaurant. But inside is filthy and there is a table full of newspaper coins tv remotes and phones. And I looked in the kitchen and it's so dirty with grim everywhere as I was looking from the table I watched a cockroach come out of the kitchen I run into a cart. So I will never recommend this restaurant I will never go here again. read more

My daughter and I read the Yelp ratings while on the road halfway between San Diego and Sacramento, and gave it a try. We couldn't have been more pleased. Their numbered specials were $7.95 each, and provided a full plate of fresh, tasty Chinese food--some of the best I've had anywhere! Lots of people were coming by to pick up take-out as we ate, signifying the popularity of their food in this small town along Highway 99. The owners were exceptionally friendly, and the atmosphere ideal for a family. I just wish this place was closer to where I live. Next time I go to San Diego, I'll take 99 rather than 5, just so I can stop here again! read more
