Heather came to our home to take photos of our baby boy at 12 days old. They are really great at capturing all kinds of funny expressions, they have two cameras going and keep snapping shots. Also, they are great people! Easy to communicate with, very creative and nice so it's easy for everyone to get comfortable around them, including the subjects (or objects) being photographed. We also got a couple of shots of our dogs, which are awesome.... It is really hard to get professional shots of animals because where do you take them? Not to the mall photographer.... to the Petsmart photo day? I don't think so .... So Sara and Ryan are also great if you want professional shots of your pets.... since they are nice and trustworthy, the animal get comfortable around them really fast so the photos come out great! I'll be uploading a couple to show you what I mean :) Anyway! My now wife and I are originally from back east, and never really felt at home in the O.C. The vibe out there is, well...not for us. When we started searching for our photographer, we came across many high-end companies dropping names and peddling their celebrity wedding shots. This was the exact opposite of what we wanted for our small, intimate event. We finally stumbled across www.saraplusryan.com (our photos are posted on their blog) and knew instantly they would get it. And us. We video chatted one time, had dinner another, and it was settled. On the big day, they arrived early and made us feel at ease while we got ready. We had a "first look" session before the ceremony that, to my surprise, wasn't awkward AT ALL. I was worried we'd look stiff and posed, but these two make you feel so comfortable you forget all that and just enjoy the moment with your partner. They flew through the obligatory (read: boring) family portraits in no time, which we personally appreciated. Though I'm sure they'd tailor time spent on certain shots to whatever the couple wanted. During the ceremony, they captured so many emotions in such unique ways. And at the reception, you literally don't realize they're even there. This made for incredibly candid, genuine shots of many intimate moments with our families and friends. After the toast, it was time for them to go. I almost asked them to stay for dinner, at least the 1st course! We received our photos in no time (2 weeks, maybe) via an email system that was very convenient to download, order prints and share with others. Going through them the first time, we were floored. Their style is one of photojournalism- capturing moments as they arise with unique perspectives and small, creative touches that make it seem like you're there when it's happening. We have had five family sessions with Kari - one of them maternity and one with a newborn and we…read moretreasure the moments she captured. First of all, she makes it fun. She is warm, easy to connect with and feel relaxed around. She has a very contagious laugh which I believe is a necessary asset in a photographer. She is great with kids and creative at keeping toddler's attentions. At a newborn session with my week old son, I wanted some bare bottomed pictures. As soon as his diaper came off he unloaded all over her. She didn't even bat an eye. Just chuckled, whipped out her own wipes and went right along with our session. She comes to each session with her own ideas but always asks us what our vision is. She is creative with her shots and editing but not so out there that it seems unrealistic. She captures moments that are unexpected. My little tot was not thrilled for one of our sessions. Older sister sat down next to him with a look on her face that could only be described as a preschooler eye roll at little brother's tantrum. Kari captured that moment and knew it would be a picture that would make us smile. She has sent us walking to our next shot location and stood behind to sneak photos of us walking and hand holding. Some of these informal pictures of our family are what we cherish the most. Kari actually cares deeply about her clients, which is why she has so many repeat clients who come back to her at their next phase of life.
