I felt deceived and overcharged. A simple consult ended up costing me more than $100 above my co-pay. It would have been nice if the Dr had told me that it would cost me $xx to discuss one issue or do this procedure. I went to Catherine Picken instead and she did not over charge me for the same discussion. I felt this practice was unfair and deceptive, simply to wring out extra dollars. read more

This review is for Dr. Shen. She has been great with my son (he was 4 when we first saw her, currently 5), is helpful and attentive during appointments, and has worked with me to avoid a procedure that I'd rather not put him through (I'm sure there are plenty of other doctors that would've just taken the quick/'easy' path & suggested the procedure, but she's been following his progress closely for a few months to see if we can avoid it). I've seen the other reviews re trouble reaching staff, etc., but have not experienced those problems to date, working with the Dupont & Chevy Chase locations (in fact I just called to move our appointment for tomorrow, & someone answered the phone within about 2 minutes & moved the appointment for me no problem). I recently saw Dr. Schwartz for some reoccurring vertigo and was very pleased with my experience. Vertigo is extremely frustrating and Dr. Schwartz has great beside manner, is very kind and thorough. I like that you can make appointments over the phone or online. I was able to be seen the next day. I did have to wait an extra 15-20 minutes for my appointment, but I would recommend the practice. read more

I saw Dr. Shen for a bump on my neck that I was pretty sure was nothing, but I'm a hypochondriac, so I figured I would go. It was super easy to book an appointment on ZocDoc, and there were a lot of appointments available within the same week that I was looking, which was great for me. The wait was very short - I waited probably only 10 minutes before I saw the doctor. She was very friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough, and definitely allayed my fears. She also didn't make me feel like my worry was silly, which is much appreciated for someone like me. read more

The actual doctor (Dettelbach) was very good and friendly, but every other person we interacted with was terrible. They recommended tonsil surgery for our 3 year old which we were told "is done at River Road surgery center" - - We had no choice of venue and it was a terrible experience. The surgery center was a total factory and rushed us through recovery, making us take a 3 year old home who was still screaming and had a nose bleed. (Feel free to look at review for River Road Surgery Center). Additionally, despite diligently verifying insurance information with the office, the surgery center they picked utilized an out of network provider and then they decried all responsibility because "It was the surgery center." They never told us we needed to check insurance with the surgery center -- in fact, they handled all of that. The whole experience was impersonal and factory-like. read more

I saw Dr. Feldman because I was worried about about my ears after 2 bad colds this winter and an upcoming scuba trip overseas. I was afraid he would dismiss my concerns because I don't yet have a serious problem. To the contrary, he was very proactive and - as a diver himself - really understood how important it is to avoid ear pressure problems on the plane and underwater. Saw both Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Feldman for chronic cough and congestion. I was given an expensive allergy test which was negative and a nasal spray that I couldn't use do to an artificial swetener sensitivity. After that Dr. Feldman told me specifically that there was nothing he could do for me. I am now being successfully treated for asthma by another doctor who was determined and patient enough to try different medications until they found a set that worked. read more

Certain drs here refuse to see patients with vertigo/dizziness (or so I was told by whomever scheduled one of my appts) and Dr. Oringer doesn't give quite as much time as he should. The last straw was when I had left the house very sick to come in for an appt with the Dr, and had gotten badly lost. I called immediately to explain the 5 min lateness and told them I was right outside their building and on my way up to the office. I was told no. I was informed that the dr had begun "gathering his things" to leave for the day after I had not shown up promptly at 1pm, and that 1pm was his last appt of the day (wow, must be nice!) I explained I was only a few mins late due to being badly lost, and since this was my first-ever offense, could the dr please see me considering we were only talking about a few mins and I was THERE now and very ill? Nope. They told me to reschedule. I quit the practice at that point. I understand their point of view but this was rigid and silly. This guy, and this practice as a whole, were never very impressive anyway. Failed to solve my ENT issues and suggested sinus surgery much too quickly, before less invasive methods were tried. Too many other, less harsh and rigid practices out there, who actually care for their patient's well-being. Go to them instead. read more

I went to see Dr. Dettlebach in May and July 2013 for throat discomfort. I was prescribed Nexium which worked fairly well. When I came in for my follow-up, there was still throat discomfort and was then given Dexilant. However, there was a procedure done during the second visit called a laryngoscopy. I had no idea this was even a formal procedure that had an associated cost ($250) and figured this was just something routine done at an ENT. My main issue was poor communication regarding the laryngoscopy. I'm lucky that I have a good insurance because getting the bill a month later was a surprise! Dr. Dettlebach's medical assistant was also extremely slow in following up on my prior authorization for Dexilant. I called and left several voicemail messages before he followed through. At that point, I was without my medication for over 8 days. The issue that annoyed me the most was when I called The Feldman ENT Group and spoke to Natalie regarding the bill for the laryngoscopy. When I mentioned it was a surprise to me that I had to pay for something that seemed so casual and non-procedural, basically routine, her whole attitude was typical for some people in the profession: if you come here, then expect to get treated and pay a bill (hopefully not too large if you have good enough insurance). She basically said that the office doesn't owe me any type of notice or indication of the actual cost of the procedure (laryngoscopy) before doing it. Again, it's the "you're here and sick, so here we go buddy. Get ready!". Never once did she even try to sympathize or understand my feeling, but only kept robotically spouting her perspective from inside a medical office. She sounded like an extremely difficult person to be around; one of those people that deliberately avoid making the situation better by staying on their high horse. It's too bad because someone else may have handled it a lot differently but she single-handedly demolished the chances of me ever coming back to the Feldman ENT Group. A word of caution: try to have a little more empathy and compassion when speaking to patients who have similar concerns. Not every one is ready and expecting a bill in the mail. Not everyone has the same level of knowledge concerning ENT procedures. Better communication would be a great service, but I guess that would also mean far less clients. read more

Dr. Mesick is a thief. He takes advantage of his patients when diagnosing a simple sinus infection by charging them for outpatient surgery to confirm the diagnosis. I was pregnant when I went to see him, and he told me that sinus infections are generally more severe. However, to confirm, he just wanted to take a quick look in my nose with a microscope. That confirmation cost me big money because it was considered outpatient surgery, and it took less than 10 seconds. I walked out with an antibiotic prescription, feeling no better, and with no idea that I had been tricked into paying a lot of money for the visit. I will NEVER go back again. read more

Dr. Williams and Dr. D. Feldman are amazing, but the surgical coordinator is AWFUL. It took multiple calls and e-mails to get the coordinator to return my calls and she took a week and a half to send the surgical packet required to schedule a preop physical. read more

Watch your bill! This practice loves to do procedures without informing the patient that they are an additional cost (or even telling the patient they're about to do the procedure). I've read several reviews about it and the exact same thing happened to me. Care was good, but for the price I could have gone to someone who actually informed me before spending hundreds of my dollars. Also, I was informed today that you should assume that the only thing included in your copay is an office visit - once the doc examines you its an additional charge! That's taking advantage of people! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Menezes for the past 2 years, I have had a very good experience in this office due to her, from my first appointment and not having to wait long, she put me at ease and took her time and explained the issue and provided me with treatment options. Horrible customer service! The receptionist in Germantown is extremely abrasive, rude, and could care less about your needs. If you show up on time, you will wait to be seen. If you show up late, you will be turned away because they are too busy to tend to patients needs. I will never use them again if they are the last ENT on the planet! read more

The prices for the hearing aids were much hire than there competitors ($1,200) for the exact same model. They agreed to honor the competitors pricing once I had it in writing, but at that point if you have to make an appointment with the competitor it was easier just to give them my business. They should offer the best price from the start! read more

I have been seeing a great MD in this group's NW DC office for several years. However, it can take weeks to get an appointment. The staff is a consistently a nightmare! After waiting more than 2 weeks for an appointment, I headed from my office in SE DC to their office in NW today. I had Metro problems & realized that I would be a little late. I tried to call ahead, but they do not answer their phone or take messages between 12 and 1 each day. When I got there, the receptionist said that the MD cancelled my appointment because I was not on time. I objected in the EMPTY waiting room, explaining about Metro and that it took me an hour to get there. She replied, "too bad!" They would not let me talk with the MD or his PA. Finally, much later and after 6 more phone calls, I spoke with the PA, who said, "we really are strict about the 15 minute policy!" If you can find a good MD elsewhere, you should. The practice has gotten too big and the MDs probably have no idea how badly the staff handles their patients, or maybe they just do not care anymore. read more
