I came on Valentine's Day and I don't recommend coming on a "holiday" again. While some customers were waiting to be serviced others received preferential treatment and were serviced, without an appointment, before those that had been waiting longer. I noticed they were rude when asking people to relocate in order to accommodate for the busy load. In particular I had to remind them multiple times that my moms nails still needed to be done, although multiple people came in after us and had been serviced before her. They then recommend she take my seat after my nails were done, which would have been awful because they took 1.5 hours to do my nails and an hour to do her nails. We would have been there all day had they not serviced her while they were doing my nails. Mean while others were coming in requesting mani pedis with their friends and daughters and being seated immediately. In terms of my service, I got a few tips put on because my nails and the dip powder. The technician did not lay them flush with my actual nail. I told her that and she was wasn't trying to fix them at first but she finally took off the nail and red did it. It wasn't until after my nails were done that I realized two more of my nails weren't done properly. I have a gap between my actual nail and the fake nail. She also glued her glove to my finger and instead of removing it with acetone, she tried to rip it off and actually remove some of my skin. Finally, I asked for a simple flower design, however, the first time it was done it looked like small blobs of paint. When I asked if she could redo it, because it didn't resemble anything, she caught an attitude. I got my eyebrows waxed and they came out awesome. Again, I enjoyed my previous experience so I really hope my most recent experience was due to the busy day of Valentine's Day. They seem to have loyal customers, however, their management during my latest experience really rubbed me the wrong way. read more

I came here due to a friend sharing her nail photos on Facebook and decided to trust her judgement and try it out for myself. It was a Saturday around noon and hella crowded. I didn't let that stop me from trying so I asked how long was the wait. A guy in the front, very nice & helpful, said only 10 min. I thought oh hell yes! They had a ton of workers which made the wait not be too bad. Extra gold star for that alone! Before arriving I had browsed the photos on Yelp and saw that they do the chrome nails I had been looking for. I asked if they can do chrome on my natural nails and they said yes. 2 gold stars!!!! I hate when ppl tell me I need to add acrylic. I won't, it's how I keep my nails strong & healthy. I literally only waited 10 min (and enjoyed the small talk with other ladies) and she started on my nails. I love how thorough she cleaned my cuticles, she filed them perfectly. I received the same experience while getting my pedi from another person. Seems like every worker in there knows what they are doing! I couldn't be more happier! However, my toenails are very long right now and I needed them trimmed. AMY didn't ask, she just filed my long toenails, When I asked about cutting, (and I said this more like, will you/could you cut my nails?) She looked up at me with a dagger stare. Huh? Obviously she took offense to a simple question and gave me a very rude stare and proceeded to tell me that only one foot needs trimming. Huh? Then she pinched my foot to get me to move it, then completely skipped over scrubbing my legs, something I love!! She finished and walked away. Amy was rude and wouldn't look at me again. I have been coming here for 20 years!!! Femi Marcus has always been the best! A lot of the same women have been working here since the beginning, which says a lot about the environment. I always see Sue, but everyone usually says "Hi, how are you?" David is wonderful and knows most people by name. My nails always look great and pedicure polish lasts for weeks! My manicures are polish free these days, but always look fresh and clean. Another reviewer mentioned that the prices went up. Yeah, they were shut down for months and months with no income. I like the fact that they carry a variety of colors and they also have Zoya nail polish. The technician was A-ok and she worked on me for about 30 minutes, but I realized after all was said and done that I did not get a foot and leg massage. This was my first time here and I didn't realize I didn't get one until the technician who was working on her gave her a foot and leg massage. This place is just okay. Super packed on a Wednesday afternoon. They did a good job with my nails, but customer service is lacking. They are obviously in a rush, barely talked to me and speaking to each other in their language the whole time. Both of my technicians had really long nails and dug their nails into my skin while giving me a massage. I gave them a $20 tip to split, that is more than 20% of my service and they acted ungrateful like I didn't give them enough. Oh well, they should cut their nails and talked to me more. read more

This is my favorite place to get pedicures with my husband. We've been so many nail places in Oakland and this is by far the best one. Everyone is so nice! They have the best massage chairs and even have a little thing that props your heel up when they're scrubbing for dead skin- this is the first place I've seen that, and it makes for a much more comfortable experience. I've been coming to Femimacus for a while now. A friend of mines always had the best mani & pedi and she finally let me into her secret world. Femimacus. Legit one of the best places to get a pedicure. Everyone is super nice & most often than not, they've taken the time to make the experience wonderful. I finally decided, "You know what? I'm gonna try getting a gel manicure here." I've had my fair share of some really shitty gel mani's so, the apprehension was there. BUT, because I've always had a good experience here I figured, they have to be good with a gel mani! Yeah, I possibly could've chosen the wrong day to come in (Christmas Eve) but I did call in advance to see if they could accommodate me and eagerly the response was yes. As soon as I walked in I was instructed to take a seat so that they could get to work (2 ladies worked on me) The pedi lady was divine. Took her time, exfoliated my tired feet, asked how I wanted my nails shaped etc Meanwhile the mani lady was pretty rough with my hands. Going really fast with pushing my cuticles back, snipping them rather aggressively. Just didn't seem all that concerned with my comfort. She kept checking her phone everytime my hand went into the UV light. After I paid and walked to my car and noticed it has already started raising! I walked back to get it fixed but I feel like a gel mani should be done well the first time with attention & care. With all that being said, it's now been 8 days and it looks like I need to get a new set. The mani is peeling, flaking, chipping etc. I'm down to try them again hopefully with someone who isn't rushed because honestly, I love this place but the mani experience that I received was disappointing. read more

I have never broke a nail until I got my nails done here. I never got them super long, always medium length. however, I broke one or more nails every time I got them done here. when I got gel nails they peeled within a couple of days. This nail salon is NOT what I expected. I had a friend recommend this place (she only does gel and not acrylic) and I can honestly say, that the price that I paid ($71) I expected a hell of a lot better quality. I went in for a full set and pedicure. (If you like your nails matching your toes, it'll be harder considering a lot of their colors don't have a match in polish form). It didn't bother me that much, but if my colors don't match, I'd rather that be a personal preference rather than a choice that had to be made. I'll start off with the acrylic. I asked for a coffin shape. I got an in between shape. Some are more traditional square, and some are more coffin shape. When it came to laying the acrylic, it looked like a large mound by the time she was done. I had to ask for it to be filed/drilled down because it made it extremely uneven and to be honest, not cute in the slightest. During the buffing and smoothing, my cuticles got cut on 5 fingers. That alone tells me that there's not a lot of attention to detail. After the polish was applied, was when I really noticed what the shape and evenness really looked like.(One hand has longer nails than the other, and the shape is off on multiple) I can say, the polish itself came out very nice. (And thanks to the chrome-like effect it hides A LOT of mess ups) Pedicure was okay. Nothing to really brag about. Polish was clean, massage was little to none, and they wash your feet with soft soap. The same soft soap you wash your hands with. And apparently, the same thing they clean the foot tubs out with since they don't use tub barriers. It may be washed with other products mixed, it's just what I noticed after each client, was soft soap. Pricing I feel was a joke. As a said, I paid $71 for a half ass done acrylic set, and a pedicure that I probably could've done myself. I decided to branch out and try a new place, (my normal place I usually pay $60-$70 AT MOST, for a fill WITH nail design, and a pedicure). For the hassle of trying to find parking, and then get this quality of nail work, I'm extremely displeased. I'm more upset that I saw a lot of reviews raging about how amazing this nail shop is, and how these ladies are "slaying" these women's nails, and the only thing that got slayed for me was my patience and wallet. I usually like to give a place a second go before any negative review, but I wouldn't bother wasting my time or money here again. My friend got her nails done with me, and hers were less than satisfactory as well. read more

Very happy with my nails. They spent a lot of time prepping the nails and getting rid of cuticles which was great. The fingers are silk wrapped and she did a great job. Only drawbacks: the initial design I wanted was ombre, but they don't do that here. Also, she didn't want to do a short coffin cause she thought it would look bad short. I feel like they were making fun of it in Vietnamese- maybe they weren't but it sure felt like it. And then she seemed upset about doing silk wrap cause it takes longer than acrylic... But that has happened every place I've been. I had an appointment for 11am but they didn't get started with me until 11:30am. I didn't totally mind but it would have been really annoying if I had something planned. But all of that aside I love how she did. I just had my gel acrylic fill done THREE DAYS AGO and now I need a new set soon and a repair and repolish today. One has broken off, the rest are far too thin and the polish is pitting and peeling off already. While I appreciate that she thinned my previously too-thick acrylics, Diane completely ignored my requested nail shape, leaving me with sharp squares. She also refused to clean up under the nails a bit with the dremel as asked, telling me to use a brush (thanks?). I wouldn't be quite so motivated to write this review if they hadn't also charged me and my girlfriend $70 each for gel pedi and gel acrylic fills. The shop is crowded, ordinary and operates like an assembly line, I can only imagine that the ritzy neighborhood influences their pricing. Go elsewhere!!! read more

Was sooooo desperate to find a shop that closes late, since I get off work @ 7. They were very accommodating as my appointment was @ 730 on a Saturday night. The location isn't optimal since it's only street parking. This nail shop is cute and narrow. On the left are the salon chairs for the pedicures and directly on the right are the manicurist chairs & tables... And small isle for people to walk up and down. I didn't catch the name of my manicurist, but she was nice- very attentive to my nails, making sure all my nails were even length and nicely shaped, which I appreciated.
