Evidence of roomy booth and increased levels of productivity
    Vivian L.

Feng Cha is already my favorite bubble tea franchise by a mile since I love how light and airy their teas are instead of heavy and syrupy. But this particular location is one of my faves. First off, it's right next to a dance studio I attend. Second of all, the booths are super comfy and roomy. I often end up sitting here for hours studying, getting schoolwork done, or just finishing up productivity tasks. The location can be a little on the busier/louder side simply because it's in a busy Chinatown shopping plaza, but nothing that a pair of headphones can't fix. Service is always super fast and nice.

I've been to this Feng Cha location a few times. This location is in Dun Huang Plaza in Chinatown. The store is nice and clean, and the cashiers are always nice. I forgot to take photos of the menus, but they have a wide selection of teas, coffees, fruity drinks, toppings, and desserts. There is only one size option for the drinks, and like other boba places, you can customize the amount of ice or sugar you want for your drink. My favorite is the Creme Brulee Dirty Boba. I always get it with less ice and less sugar. Although Feng Cha isn't my go-to choice for boba, the drinks are always consistent in terms of flavors, so it's definitely worth a try if you've never been here before.

Feng Cha is always a nice place that I'd like to visit. They have some unique teas. You can do the order on the machine so don't be afraid of not knowing the names. The paintings on the walls are beautiful.

Highlight: Jasmine Green Tea ($4.25) with Sea Salt Milk Foam ($1.00) The sea salt milk foam was creamy, smooth and tasty. The jasmine tea had a good floral tea flavor and was very refreshing overall. Perfect ice-to-drink ratio and overall a great price. Hospitality: Friendly staff. Honorable Mention: Decent amount of booth and chair seating. Interior had beautiful murals!

After dinner nearby, my friend was craving boba, so we explored the many bubble tea options in Dun Huang Plaza. He chose Feng Cha, and I realized I had visited this spot a few years ago. I ordered a peach oolong tea $5.25 with milk foam and crystal boba, at 50% sweetness while he got the creme brulee dirty boba. Our drinks were prepared quickly and both were delicious and refreshing. They also offer a loyalty program through the Feng Cha app, which is a nice bonus for frequent visitors. Plenty of parking in the entire plaza. Note that there are at least 10 other boba tea houses within 0.1 mile vicinity. Yes, 0.1 mile!

After patronizing Mein recently, I felt inspired to revisit Dun Huang Plaza again to check out the Chinatown location of Feng Cha. The last time I visited Dun Huang was over two years ago to get ice cream at Aqua S, the cool Australian ice cream spot which is now closed. And given the fact Ding Tea closed quite some time ago at a nearby shopping/restaurant center, I figured it's time to find a new place to get bubble tea or coffee drinks. With the help of the guy working the counter, I decided on a Kiwi Basil Green Tea sweetened at a level of 75 percent, adding brown sugar boba. I really enjoyed this drink, and it was fun spooning out the last bits of kiwi at the bottom of the cup. I found the decor on the inside to be cool. It was still reflective of Halloween, with artsy cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. One important point to be made about this particular Feng Cha location: it tends to get really, really busy. Looking at this Feng Cha outpost from my car, I could tell this has to be one of the most popular businesses at Dun Huang Plaza. Lots of people came and went. It kind of makes one feel sorry for the folks at Gong Cha a few doors down because Feng Cha seemed to be getting all the business at the back end of the plaza. Once inside, it kind of reminds me of waiting for a flight at an airport...there were so many people inside! Check it out.

My friends and I came here for an after dinner drink. The citrus lord was really good and they used real fruits. We also got the dirty chai. It had a nice chai/cinnamon after taste. There are lots of clean table and chairs. The place is also decorated for Halloween! Theres also a corner to borrow some games to hang with friends or study here. There are also outlets next to the benches so you can bring your laptop here to work/study. The staff is nice but soft spoken. It was hard to hear them when they call out our drinks. So if you can't hear them calling out numbers, be sure to go to the corner to ask every once in a while. Free parking out front and there are garages. I personally prefer to park in the open.

The drink was a great deal at just $5.75 total! Without the sea salt foam, it would've only been $4.75. The tea itself was delicious with just the right amount of sweetness, and the sea salt foam added a really nice taste. I would definitely come back for more! The service was fast, I got my drink within 5 minutes. There was an ample amount of seating in the establishment.

Fantastic milk tea shop with desserts and fair prices. Taro milk tea is one of our faves in the city. Highlights include the taro milk tea and black milk tea, and we really enjoyed the oreo cheese souffle cake. Line moves pretty quickly and the staff is friendly. Vibe is chill and they have good board games too like Carcassonne.

    Thai Milk Tea

I got the thai milk tea with 50% sugar and light ice! It tastes pretty good but they put regular ice but it doesn't really matter too much. It was very quick though they were able to make it in less than 4 minutes! It's pretty quiet here too so overall if you're looking for a quick drink and a good spot to study/do work then Fengcha is a good go-to!

I only come to Feng Cha for one drink and that is the kiwi basil green tea. It has a very generous amount of kiwi puree which I appreciate and it's not too sweet either. I love any drink that has basil seeds in it so that's bonus points from me. The cups are also quite large so you get a bang for your buck. I've tried other milk teas on the menu and none of them impressed me so I just stick with my usual. They make their drinks super quick by the way!

Feng Cha is now my new favorite boba place in Houston. R&B across the street is great, but this is better. When I pulled up into the plaza my intention was to actually hit up Gong Cha just a couple doors down based on lots of online food recs and research, but I made a heat of the moment pivot over to Feng Cha based on the vibes. Feng Cha was absolutely popping off in business and Gong Cha had a few people, but dead in comparison, so I followed the crowd. Absolutely no regrets. I ordered their creme brulee dirty boba (their version of a brown sugar boba), less ice, 25% sweet. I basically inhaled it. It was soooo good that I went back in and ordered a second one to deliver to my friend to try, her eyes lit up when she tried it. A week later my workplace was ordering boba, I recommended Feng Cha (Midtown). The consistency between locations is there as well making it super convenient, kind of a dangerous recipe for anyone on a diet or who has limited self control like me :D 10/10 would recommend.

It was warm, crispy and delicious! Karak tea ($5) - This milk tea drink was made with aromatic spices, primarily cardamom, cloves, ginger and cloves. I was happy to see they used whole milk instead of evaporated milk. The drink was incredibly rich and creamy and tasted great. Turkish delight ($18 / lb.) - This was extremely fresh, soft and chewy, made with cornstarch, sugar, nuts. Some of the varieties I tried had chocolate and/or fruits. For example, with the Turkish delights and ice cream selections, only a few items are labeled. For most of them, you have to guess the flavor or ingredients. When I asked questions, there was a language barrier, and the staff member behind the counter was unable to clearly explain what the items were in English. This can be especially frustrating for customers with food allergies or dietary restrictions. In the U.S., I would expect all flavors and ingredients to be clearly labeled so customers can make informed choices. Even if staff members are not fluent in English, having accurate labels for flavors and ingredients would greatly improve the customer experience. The desserts themselves are excellent, but better product labeling would make the experience much more enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

You're paying for the K-Pop Demon Hunter pop-up aesthetic, the upbeat vibes, the fast service, the themed menu. The desserts? Solid. The Pinky Up Parfait hits. One scoop of cappuccino ice cream comes generous and tasty. Nothing disappoints. But nothing revolutionizes dessert either. This is good execution in service of a limited time experience, not destination-level pastry work. And that's fine. That's exactly what a pop-up should be. The real draw is that everything works together. Vibe, music, service, and desserts that don't let the side down. It feels fun, not gimmicky. That's harder to pull off than you'd think. Bottom line. Pop-ups don't stick around. If the K-Pop theme is your thing and you want solid desserts in a fun environment, go now. If you're just looking for great desserts, permanent spots do it better.

Since we were already in the area after breakfast at TJ's Filipino Cuisine, we finally got the chance to stop by and try their baked goods for ourselves. We arrived early, so the bakery wasn't too busy yet. The bakers were busy prepping more goodies in the back while my cousin and I browsed all the Filipino baked goods we really miss from back home in the Philippines. They even had suman, sapin-sapin, biko, and other kakanin, which was nice to see. I specifically looked for the chicken empanada, and my cousin wanted to try the ube white chocolate chip cookie. We also saw different kinds of siopao and planned to come back later to buy some before heading back to San Antonio. We tried the ube white chocolate chip cookie first, but honestly we weren't totally satisfied. It tasted more like a regular white chocolate chip cookie with purple coloring and didn't really have much ube flavor. I also tried the chicken empanada. My cousin didn't like it because it was sweeter than expected--we were both expecting it to be savory. There seemed to be caramelized sugar in the outside of the pastry, which probably added to the sweetness. I still like it, though it was definitely sweeter than what I'm used to. Red Ribbon's chicken empanada is still my favorite. Later that day before leaving Houston, we came back for the siopao we planned to take home. We finally decided to just buy a couple pieces for ourselves, heat them up in the bakery, and try them fresh. When we saw the price for a four-pack, we were honestly disappointed. It felt expensive for the size. The siopao wasn't huge, and while I like the dough, there wasn't much chicken filling inside. For the portion, taste, and quality, it felt overpriced. Overall, it's probably not worth making another trip back for us. We did enjoy the cassava ube suman, and I like the chicken empanada, but not enough to drive all the way to Houston just for those. If I live nearby, I might come back to try other baked goods, but based on this visit, I'm not sure the rest would impress my palate. I still give them credit for cleanliness and customer service, although we did notice fruit flies on one of the shelves and reported it. The staff was friendly, and the bakery itself was welcoming. At the end of the day, since they're a bakery, the expectation is great-tasting, quality, mouthwatering Filipino breads, pastries ", and kakanin. While some items were enjoyable, overall it just didn't quite live up to the hype for us.
