Plenty of bubble tea places to choose from in Bellaire. Out go to place is Gong Cha. My brother first introduced me to Gong Cha back in CA. I'm glad they opened in Houston as well. We usually drop by after dinner. My go to drink is the Earl grey milk tea with 3Js (3Js for short). It comes with pudding jelly, grass jelly and black pearls. Why pay for extra for each topping if you can get a drink that comes with it. They have 2 sizes (regular or Large). You can also set the sugar level from 0 to 100 (70% is regular) and ice level (full, less or no ice). I usually have Large with 50% sugar and less ice. My wife likes the Lychee Oolong with black pearls. You will just need to get and find what tickles your taste buds. They have a rewards program if you are willing to share your mobile number that you enter when you place your order. Place is clean and was renovated during Covid. Tables and chairs are on both sides of the room. Games are gone now after Covid. Staff is pretty efficient. It doesn't take long to get your order. My go-to drink here is the Dirty Brown Sugar Milk Tea. I did get the sweetness adjusted to 70% and enjoyed it a lot more compared to the 100%. My friends got the Honey Green Tea and Earl Grey Milk Tea with 3J's. Both were delicious but the Dirty Brown Sugar Milk Tea still has the number 1 spot for me. The bobaristas made our drinks and moved the line very quickly even when it was busy on National Boba Day. They were also super sweet as well. There are a fair amount of tables inside to sit and I would recommend bringing a jacket as it can get cold if you are going to be there for a prolonged period of time. My only critique was the Wi-Fi was very spotty and slow so if you need strong Wi-Fi this may not be the best place. They also have a rewards program that you can sign up for by providing your phone number for deals as well. read more

I've been here a few times and what sets them apart from the many tea and boba shops in the same shopping center is they have unique drinks. The latest tea I tried was the mango milk tea. It's sweet, flavorful, fresh fruit, good combinations. The dragon fruit jelly didn't add anything to it. Could have done without it, or rather have mango poppers. One of my favorite places to get boba in Houston. I got the regular-size dirty brown sugar milk tea. The tea was really good, and I loved the brown sugar flavor in the tea itself to complement the flavor of the tapioca pearls. It's definitely on the sweeter side, but they have plenty of options to reduce the sugar content (i.e., 70%, 50%, etc.). The boba was sweet and chewy. Also, the place was nice to sit in, and has a very chill and trendy vibe. My only quibble with the place was that the price was steep, even for boba (~$5.50 for a regular size), but honestly it's worth it for the quality of the tea and boba. Third time is the charm! So cliche... But it is the truth for this location. This is my third try and absolutely the best. I first tried a drink from Gong Cha a few years ago, when they first opened. I don't remember being too impressed. Ditto for the second try. The third try however has won me over. I got a pearl milk tea and the flavors were fantastic. Strong tea flavor with a milky consistency and then a hint of what tasted like caramel. So yummy! I got no sugar sweetness level and there was still a hint of sweetness from the boba. GONG CHA wish your bubble tea was perfect like mine? GONG CHA. Anyways. This place was one of the top bubble tea places that I went to. Ordered the lychee oolong tea and regular milk tea. The lychee oolong kinda sort of reminds me of the sweet tamarind asian candy and the regular milk tea was just super. It wasn't too sweet nor too bitter. The pearls weren't too chewy nor too hard. I also see that the matcha red bean is on the top drinks twice either by mistake or coincidence. I don't know how I feel about the red bean but definitely looking to try something new like that next time. Staff was nice and polite. Not sure if there were bigger sizes but I'm sure they have it. I think we only got smalls because we ate too much or drank too much. I was very disappointed that we didn't make a second trip here before heading back home but definitely would come back if a Gong Cha is ever around. read more

Gong Cha is a wonderful international bubble tea chain which I first tried in NYC. Some of the locations have really unfriendly employees (cough cough Queens and Manhattan), whereas others are awesome (cough cough Toronto and this one), but all of them put out a consistently delicious product. The Brown Sugar Milk Tea rivals the very best chain store examples of how good Boba can be. It's milky, perfect, and has that deep brown sugar taste that gives it a real texture difference from your average milk tea. The hot version is wonderful in cold weather, and the cold version is delicious in any weather. I prefer the Sharetea version (Okinawa), but it's a close contest and mixing it with Oolong here (not on menu, but they might do it for you) is a great way of switching it up. While I still prefer the Okinawa (same type of tea) at Sharetea just down the road (or rather round the corner in the same plaza), Gong Cha is a wonderful addition to the Bellaire Houston drink-and-dessert East Asian scene, which is one of the best Chinatown-areas in North America. And one way in which it absolutely matches Sharetea is in how nice the employees here are. If you like wintermelon milk teas, this is probably one of the best wintermelon milk teas that I've had! I highly recommend. I get it with half sugar, less ice, and regular boba. This is honestly the only drink that I get here. This location is always really busy, which is a good sign of it being really good! It's also a great place to hangout and catch up with friends. I love to hate on Gong Cha - "the lines are too long, the prices are too high!" - but when I'm inevitably dragged along by my group of friends, I always find that I can't hate it as much as I want to. Yes, there might be a wait or some steep prices, but the drinks never fail to disappoint. My thoughts on several menu items: Strawberry Milk Tea: A special menu item and part of their "Strawberry Series," this sucker tastes like the best version of strawberry milk you've ever had (with real strawberry pieces to boot!) I got it with 30% sweetness and it still tasted delicious with a full flavor, so do keep in mind the strawberry syrup/flavoring probably imparts a huge chunk of sugar to start with. Earl Grey Milk Tea with 3Js: I ordered this expecting 3 jellies, but was pleasantly surprised to find a mix of herbal jelly, pudding, and tapioca instead. I also ordered this one at 30% sweetness, which was perfect - the bergamot essence didn't get covered up by a toothache-inducing amount of sugar. Since the sinkers are built in to the price, it's one of the better value options if you like chewing on things. Dirty Brown Sugar Milk Tea: Probably the most exorbitant milk tea I've ever had in my life, this gal boasts a nutty/aromatic brown sugar syrup and a luscious layer of milk foam topping. I think I actually like this milk foam drink more than the ones at Tea Top, though at ~$6 a cup it won't be a frequent choice. Lemon Juice White Pearl & Ai-yu: If I'm feeling super health conscious (well...provided that my diet allows for boba) this is my choice. It's ridiculously refreshing if you like tart and bright flavors. I've only ever seen white pearls in Gong Cha - they're kinda like bouncy firm jello, not as sticky or chewy as conventional tapioca because they have maybe 5-10% the calories. Ai-yu jelly tastes like citrus and fig, and although it's still sweet, it won't weigh you down like tapioca. The Gong Cha franchise has finally landed in Houston and yours truly could not be any more stoked. (#1) This is one of the major legit boba chains that have performed extremely well in Asian markets throughout the world. Houston is certainly deserving of a location but with so many boba options and so many other Gong Chas world wide, how does this location stack up? Fairly well, I'd say. Often times boba in the states doesn't compare to Asia, but typically Gong Cha gets pretty close. They're one of the more consistent brands with lightly flavored teas rather than sugary, powdery concoctions from the other brands. As a result, it's hard for me to say no when it comes to just about any of their awesome flavors. Their classic "milk tea" is a great way to start for Gong Cha noobs. I'm usually a bigger fan of their pearl milk tea, which has a dash of sweetness and a creaminess from the milk. The lemon watermelon with basil seeds is a perfect summer drink and their milk foam green tea is usually the *one* to get. Though when done well, their lychee oolong and earl grey milk tea is excellent. Like many bubble tea spots, this is an easy hangout for a lot of youngins, especially those in the Asian community. There aren't a ton of tables, but people seem to make do at just about any time of the day. I typically avoid the later evening crowds by rocking an afternoon appearance but even then I still see tables of people socializing over boba. For me, this is going to be one of the better boba places in the city.
