I'm not sure I have the story right, but it seems like Fenwick Ice Cream moved across the street from it's old location. I'm guessing from some limited information that the at least some of the owners are the same, but I don't really know. In any event, the new space is bigger inside. Meaning you can actually walk inside now. There is still significant outside seating. They also seem to serve some limited non-dessert food. Like the day I was there, they had lobster rolls and hot dogs. There isn't any reason why I would change my prior review score. Service was friendly. They have 33ish flavors of hard ice cream. I had a hard time picking a flavor because I was looking for something different, but the flavors seemed fairly standard. I ultimately ordered a sugar cone with a scoop of key lime pie ice cream. They asked if I wanted any toppings, and I asked for a single Blue Raspberry Sour Patch Kid on top because I thought it would look cool. The ice cream flavor was good. It had like a pie crust swirl which added some contrasting flavor and texture. read more

First time at Fenwicks on Rt 1 right in the heart of Old Saybrook and I was satisfied. The ice cream was great, I tried their famous Toasted Almond. The kid working there had his hands full with a long line, working solo but didn't skip a beat. The thing this place gets right where most ice cream shops get wrong, is the bright digital menu signs mounted up high. You can actually stand in line and see what they have. Other shops you don't know what they have until you get up to the register, thus causing delays and indecisiveness. I dislike the ice cream sample tasting though. This should be banned. It's only ice cream, take a chance. When there are 15 people in line, the rest of us don't have the patience for you to sample a flavor and think about it before committing to buying a 1-scoop cup. Ok my rant is done, but Fenwick's is a great place with great ice cream. read more

Love that Fenwick offers a couple of vegan ice cream options. I ordered a black raspberry chocolate chip vegan ice cream and a pup cup. The black raspberry was not the best I've had but it was cold. The ice cream was a bit "dry and thick" with little flavor. My dog liked her pup cup though! They offer ice cream pies that looked good and unique. They have seating inside and outside available. read more

So many places in the area to chose from for great ice cream in a summer night, unfortunately we went to Fenwick. First of all, the lighting is so bright it feels like a visit to the ER. Then for $6 you can have the most puny scoop of ice cream known to man. I was excited to try the "famous toasted almond." The flavor was very similar to a toasted almond bar from an ice cream truck , so I'll save you a trip. Take your money (it's costly to go out with a family these days) to any of the other 5 places in a 3 mile radius and you'll be glad you did. Must miss. read more

We couldn't resist getting some ice cream from Fenwick after having lunch at Johnny Ad's! They have a bunch of flavors to choose from, and all of the ice cream is handmade by them. We indulged in a banana split, and it came with all of the classic toppings, and our friends enjoyed the mint chip and toasted almond. It was a cute, casual spot, and the girls at the window were friendly. This was our second time getting ice cream here and we will definitely be back for more! read more

Nothing special. Got their promotion "flurry"... vanilla soft serve... with stale snickers or maybe it was frozen. I count eat half of it... My kids all got regular soft serve and a twist, it was fine. Nothing special about the ice cream... but probably not the worse ice cream you'll end up with. Rather have DQ. lol read more

Seeking ice cream before the storm hits. Googled a different ice cream shoppe and tada here we are at Fenwick. Many flavors, I believe 32 is what they advertised. I was originally going to have the vanilla black cherry, then saw they had Italian ice. That was a must have. The Mate had the key lime pie. I tried some, it was flavorful and just the right amount of lime. Ice cream extra creamy, mate loved it. My Italian ice soooo refreshing. Enjoyed the lemon while we watched the storm roll in. The cool breeze along with the cold ice cream felt phenomenal. It's a definite return. No inside seating. All picnic tables. Made for a comfy picnic feel, with 1950's music playing from their outside speakers. Attached to Fenwick is Johnny Ad's, we didn't try, but will have to. It's a burger / fried seafood joint. Loved the customer service. Very friendly and helpful. Oh there's the lightening. Time to go. read more

I always thought all soft serve ice cream was the same. Since going to Fenwick and having their soft serve chocolate , I will never go back to the others! It was so rich with flavor. My SO and I enjoy staying in Niantic for some quiet R&R. We were over in Old Saybrook for some mini-golf and I needed some ice cream after a very close game in the summer sun.
