I'm a big wing fan and a big hot dog fan. The Wing Addicts recommend Jack Rabbits for wings, and a restaurant I love recommended them for hot dogs too. I recently planned an errand in the general Old Saybrook area so I could try both at Jack Rabbits. I had the vague impression that there may be more than one part to Jack Rabbits. I went to the part that's more of a bar. It was crowded. There was one table open, but I opted for one of the last seats at the bar. If Jack Rabbits isn't quite a dive bar, it's dive-bar-adjacent. There were clearly a lot of area regulars there. The bartenders were all friendly and helpful. They knew the names of a lot of customers. Always a good sign. The thing about trying both the hot dog and wing part of the menu when you're alone, you can't really do a deep dive into either part of the menu. And the depth of the menu, definitely warranted a deep dive. I'll return to try more of the menu with reinforcements next time. I ordered a New York style hot dog, which was served with a split and grilled Hummel as the base. The toppings included sweet pepper relish, mustard, bacon pieces, kraut and onions. There was a lot going on in a way that I enjoyed. The dog was well cooked. They had a number of specialty dogs I'd like to try. I also ordered 8 Sriracha Lime Cilantro wings, and ate four there and brought the rest home for my son. Good flavor. Good texture. Meaty wings at a goods price. My son liked them too. Placed an online order through the website. After waiting for my delivery for over an hour, I called the restaurant several times to check the status and no one was picking up. Shortly after I received an update that my order was cancelled. I decided to order from another local restaurant since the order was cancelled by Jack Rabbits. A few minutes later we received a call stating that another customer took our food home and realized it wasn't theirs and brought it back. We informed the restaurant we received a cancellation noticed of our order and we had already ordered from another restaurant since it had now been 1.5 hrs since we placed the order. The manager expected us to come pick up the order after it had been to another customer's house and brought back, was now cold, and we had received a cancellation notice. I asked for a refund and were told the $112 charge would be refunded. I have tried to call the restaurant because it's been 5 days and my credit card still has a charge. Unfortunately no one answers the phone. I will be reporting to the BBB as well as my bank along with the proof that the restaurant cancelled my order and still charged me. So... 8 wings + 8 wings + $7 less than mediocre milkshake = close to $40. I ordered my 2 orders of 8 wings... an order of fries (which didn't make it on my order at all) and a $7 milkshake as a surprise for my daughter. When I arrive to pick up my order... no fries (I noticed this when I got home) and my $7 milkshake.... Well it was milk and had clearly been shaken... Certainly won't be going back or recommending Jack Rabbits to anyone anytime in the near future. I'm so sad... their so close to my home and I have loved them... but there are plenty of other options available for the price their asking and the service their providing. Decent enough burgers but as are many things these days they were very expensive. $50+ tip for two of us with bottled waters and sharing a fry. No liquor license means no beer, which is the best part of a burger and fries. The service seemed agitated with us for some reason, an early 20's woman who seemed super unhappy to be there, though I was as polite as possible hoping to get through the experience. Be careful this place will steal money from you. Wish I could give zero stars. They have a 48 wing choice on the menu that allows you to pick up to, and only up to, 2 different sauces, ( which ok, fine) but if you pick to have 2 different sauces in your 48 wing order they will charge you for 2x24 wing orders , which amounts to 6 dollars more on your bill. That's theft. And then after the theft they didn't even get the order right, substituting one wing sauce for another without notification. Won't be back. Decided to revisit this place while we're on the South Beach diet 'cause I remembered that they offer burgers on salads. I had the veggie burger on a garden salad and my husband had the turkey burger on a garden salad. This place blew our expectations out of the water. We were hesitant to even walk in because my husband and I are pescatarian but the friendly staff advised us they had vegetarian and tuna burgers.
