Just left the store, we were there for 15 minutes before anyone said anything to us. There were 3 people working there and they were all more concerned with the couple that was checking out. When we finally got someone to ask us if we needed anything, he acted like he didn't even want to help us. We were going to buy a beach cruiser but I guess we will go someone else. I received good service and a good quality bike rental from here for the week my family stayed in OC but both times i went in employees were not wearing masks and seemed inconvenienced that they needed to put them on since I was in the store. The first time i assumed it was just those two employees (especially since no one was in the store when i went in) but two completely different employees were not wearing masks properly or at all when i went in the second time. One employee i noticed had pulled his mask down to talk to other customers. This tells me that overall the store management has been incredibly lax with their health protocols during a global pandemic. read more

I have dealt with bike shops up and down the East Coast. Hands down, this is the best! I have found Jay Sommers, the owner, and his entire staff to be very accommodating, honest and professional. My family has purchased bikes and bike accessories from them, had bikes of all types repaired by them and also rented bikes for house guests there. I have also referred friends and neighbors there. Yes, I know that there were a few negative reviews posted. As a retired attorney, I know that you can never please everyone. I don't hand out compliments on a regular basis; that said, however, as an avid cyclist and as a 38 year + resident of Fenwick Island, I happily make an exception for Jay, his staff and this amazing bike shop! read more

Great service! Got a flat on my old Western Flyer Beach Cruiser, Fenwick Islander hooked me up with 2 new tubes and tires for a fraction of what the big box stores would charge. Although one employee was willing to fix it so I could get back on the road (I was 4 miles from home), the very unfriendly boss wouldn't allow it, saying I would have to leave the bike there to have the flat repaired. Stopped in as a first time customer looking to buy a part or a new seat if needed. my seat needed adjustment for my father. , I was happy and cordial but The counter person from the start was a bit rude at me whom i suspect might be the shop owner. i was quite stunned by the attitude, however i did not react to it. He did show me how to adjust the seat angle which solved what i came for. He then handed me over to another staffer who was there and heard it all from the start. He had same or worse attitude which quickly deteriorated when I asked about availability sizes of a simple part i need for another bike. He cut me off repeatedly in a VERY rude manor in front of other customers. All all i wanted to know was if they sell smaller sizes needed for older bikes. I told him i didn't expect him to fix it just wanted to know if he had a variety of sizes so i could come back later with exact measurements. i never was able to finish because interjected rude comments while i was explaining my needs. I resisted fighting or reacting to his rudeness and poor treatment of me which was quite difficult at this point. So i just turned and walked out never to return. I cant imagine treating a new customer like this. i think they survive in business because they have a steady supply of new customers coming to OC/ Fenwick Island needing bikes and bike parts/service. so if they are rude it doesnt hurt them. Contacted them this morning at 10:12, shortly after they opened, no one answered the phone. I thought they are busy opening the store so let me contact them electronically. NO RESPONSE. I won't do business with a business that doesn't want to communicate, its fishy, it seems dishonest. I would find another bike shop or transport your own bike to the beach. Stay away. read more

I have been very disappointed with this shop. My sister and I tried to rent bikes there a few weeks ago, but they claimed they were all out! They suggested we try their store in Bethany. They did not offer to call and reserve the bikes, however. We went to the 2nd store only to find out that they, too, had no more bikes! Unfortunately, these 2 stores are really the only ones in the area. Hence, knowing that we were returning to the beach, I decided to reserve bikes in advance as the store personnel suggested. I have placed 3 calls to the store and had to leave a message each time as no one ever answered the phone. With each call, I requested to reserve 2 bikes and left my name and number so they could confirm the reservation. I have not received a single call back This is no way to run a business! read more

I have never had a problem with them... The staff is very friendly and accommodating to all their customers needs and can find and help with just what you're looking for! I would like to warn fellow travelers to beware of this bike rental location. We traveled to Ocean City MD recently and rented four bicycles from Lenox East Beach Rides that we were later told was affiliated with Fenwick Islander Bicycle Shop next door. They did not take Amex and provided four bikes all with the same combination for the locks. One of the bikes were stolen from the bike rack at one of our condos on 140 st. We had no recourse as there was no insurance off debit card. All bikes that they rented for the week had the same combination. How ridiculous is that. You can try the combination on any bike and walk away. They could have anyone go and retrieve bikes with this combination and charge renters to purchase the stolen bicycles. Please beware and bring your own lock or find a more reputable company to rent from. We have learned from our mistakes and wanted to share with others. read more

Made a Quick stop today at the Bike shop with a Tire issue, We are not New customers to this shop, We have purchased 3 Bicycles many accessories for the 8 Bicycles we own. Today was not a good day for our visit to Fenwick Islander Bike shop, We were not greeted by our usual salesman, Our new sales clerk must not of wanted to be there today, We asked a few questions were treated as if we were bothering them and they did not need us as customers. I was shocked and did not know how to respond, I just paid for my items and walked out. It will be the last time I walk in there, And it is their loss, Because My wife almost had me convinced we should order 2 new Specialized electric bikes from them. My husband and I dropped off our 3G bikes (which we purchased from them in 2016) as we needed the tires replaced. We thought we needed front and back. When we picked up our bikes they replaced the rear tires only. They indicated it wasn't necessary to replace the front at this time. They could have made unnecessary repairs but were honest about it! Just stopped in to get a tube replaced- they said they could do it but it would be at least a 1 day turn around. We went ahead and bought the tube to change it ourselves since it's something only takes 10 minutes to do. A man walked in ( I'm guessing the owner), asked what we needed. We explained that the girl was in the back getting a tube for us. His response was, "so do you think you can get out of my way then? I have other customers that need to get in here". There was NOBODY else in the store or at the door. On top of the that, we weren't in his way, he could have easily walked past us. He just didn't like that we weren't leaving our bike there. Great shop with top notch service. They took my flooded by Sandy bike and totally restored it for about 1/4 cost of replacement and helped me get helmet and bike basket. They have bikes for everyone from placid rider (me) to long distance roadster. I would even buy my bike here to take back to home (off the beach). read more

I came there to fix a broken tire in my bike. I politely explained that I really need to get it done asap, since I'm using that bike to get to work. They said they'll have it ready for me before closing around 5pm. When I came to pick it up it wasn't done and they denied that we've had an agreement to get it fixed the same day. If I knew, they wouldnt get it done the same day, I would simply go somewhere else or just get the tube and tire and fix it myself. And everything would be OK, if they just admitted "Hey, we're sorry but we've been really busy and couldn't get it done. Is tomorrow OK?" We're all humans and I understand that sometimes we just can't keep our promises but I didn't like making a fool out of me for no reason. They've been extremely impolite. The worst part was when I've found a note sticked to my bike which said "INSTRUCTIONS:RUSSIAN". First of all, I'm not from that country (there's plenty of others in Europe) and even if I were, how does my nationality infuence the way you should repair my bike or treat me as a coustomer? That was their response: " Sorry for the apparent miscommunication on both sides regarding the time frame of your repair completion. We can never guarantee same-day service this time of year due to many repairs that are ahead of yours. Regarding your insinuation that nationality has anything to do with the time frame in which we complete repairs, or affect our customer service, is absolutely false and ridiculous. I am proud of the longevity of this bike shop and apologize if you walked away with any negative feelings." Fenwick Islander Bicycle Shop That's exactly what is so upsetting about the whole situation. First that instead for simply apologizing for not keeping your promise, which would be an absolutely fair and understandable bahavior, you just keep denying that such promise was ever made. I've already mentioned that if I were told you wouldn't get it done the same day, I would go somewhere else or just get the parts and fix it myself. I've explained to you that I'm using that bike to get to work almost every day so that's why I need it repaired ASAP. Go elsewhere. This comes from a 10 year customer. Went to the store today to have a tire repaired after purchasing a tube last week and attempting the repair myself because they had 20 bike repairs ahead of me. I was told the repair would be $25 and at least 2-3 days before the bike could be repaired. No problem. Then I asked that the shop check the tube I purchased a week earlier as if it was still good I would like to save it. I was rudely told I could check it myself. Nice attitude and customer service from the owner Jay. As I left I shared that this would be my last visit to the store. He replied lets make this your last visit and he refused to fix my bike. I left and went to Bike Connection in Bethany Beach. They fixed my bike in 15 minutes and for $5 less. I've found a new local bike shop in Bike Connection. I would recommend passing on Ocean Cycles in Bethany and the Fenwick Islander Bike Shop, based upon my experience. read more

On Vaca took bike there for broken shifter cable. They said shifter was broke and it would cost $250 to fix. Asked for bike back and took it to local bike shop when I got home. They replaced cable and cover for $54. They never mentioned the shifter. read more

This shop is awesome. I was on vacation in Bethany Beach when I ran into some mechanical difficulty with a sticking brake cable. I really wanted to ride, but didn't want to risk my well being on a sketchy brake. I brought my bike (Cervelo P1 with internal cable routes) into Fenwick Islander Bicycle Shop and talked to Jay who said that he could fix my problem and that my bike would be ready tomorrow. Six hours later, I get a call from Jay saying that my bike is ready. I was ecstatic. Jay fixed my brake and replaced my shot rear derailleur cable for a very fair and reasonable price. Thanks to Jay, I was able go for a ride that same day and was able to complete the rest of my workouts that I had planned. Now I just need to find a bike shop with this type of service back home. read more
