This is one of the must do thing in Ventura. We were fortunate to be the only ones at the tasting table and the service provided to us was awesome. I wanted to like this place more than I did. We came here for the yelp deal ($12 for two tastings) but the wine didn't hit the mark. Serving mostly blends, the first few pours of the tasting menu were not super impressive. The zinfandel was the crowd favorite. The meritage, which is my favorite varietal, was a disappointment. The service was great! The owner explained all of the wines that her and her husband make and offered to give us a tour of the wine production facilities. The yelp deal made this a good experience but if we had to pay full price it wouldn't be as good. read more

Three couples who knew each other from charity work through their membership in Rotary International decided to start this business. With cool, hip wines placed in cool, hip decorated bottles with cool, hip names served by cool, hip people in a cool, hip tasting room this new vintner already seems destined for big things (although the people at Four Vines might have a small beef with the name and logos/marketing materials that look awfully similar to their look). Given how much apparel they have for sale in their online store, clearly a lot of thought went into the marketing and "look". They also host tasting events, chef dinners, live music, Foodie Friday's in a nice attempt to create a Four Brix "community". Excellent job on that end and their marketing person should get kudos. So how does the wine hold up to all that promotion? Surprisingly, quite well. They know what they are doing here and it shows in the wines. Definitely plush, fruit forward wines but with more balance then expected. Started with the 2011 Viognier known as Smitten and it was the one true failure of the bunch. Made with fruit from Camp 4 in Santa Ynez, which Fess Parker destroys to create their lousy Viognier, the Four Brix version was full of spice but not much flavor. I was expecting to love this wine given its stainless steel, no Malo production but it just tasted like a cyclist or baseball player off of their enhancing drugs: thin and limp. The reds were much better: Zeductive - 79% Zinfandel and 21% Petite Syrah Blend from SLO County was my second favorite. Aged in once used oak barrels, this was an excellent fruity yet balanced wine that will be a joy to drink with some BBQ. Rhondezvous - Paso Robles Rhone blend of 41% Grenache, 36% Syrah, 14% Mourvedre, 9% Counoise. Not quite as successful as the Zeductive. Too big and obvious like a lot of Paso can be. Scosso - Super Tuscan Blend of 63% Sangiovese, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Merlot. The winery says you should taste the creaminess of cream soda which is not a characteristic I'm looking for in a wine. Again, too obvious and ripe and maybe they overcompensated in production for the 2/3rds Sangiovese. Just not very balanced. Temptress - Spanish Rioja Style Blend of 44% Tempranillo, 29% Mourvedre, and 16% Grenache and 11% Graciano. Here we have the home run! Favorite of the tasting. Most distinctive, great flavor profile, balanced. Excellent work on this one. Unlike Rancho Ventavo, tasting fee was refunded with purchase (Zeductive & Temptress) and cool, hip tasting room woman took us into the back to see production in progress. Very nice to get a behind the scenes look. I would highly recommend a stop here and will enjoy seeing their growth in the coming years. read more

The best winery I've been to in Ventura County. I like it more than Herzog, Cantara, Magnavino, Rancho Ventana, and Bella Victorian. Like most Ventura County wineries, the grapes are sourced from other regions. They do plenty of blending so they can't use the grape name. Consequently, the many blends have unique titles like Scosso and Zeductive which seems like they were named by an Italian who embraced the spirit of ebonics. Blending is a a smart decision because annual variations in a vineyard can be countered with other grapes. The blending helps Four Brix to produce a good, fruity product. For every two bottles purchased, a $10 tasting fee is waived. Thankfully, there was no silly buying or "free" logo glasses. They pronounce Brix like "bricks" instead of "bree". Like Grand Prix is "pree" not "pricks" - although arrogant race car drivers can be those. read more

Have been scooping out this winery on FB for a while and last nite we were finally in the area to stop by and try it out. We were not diappointed!!!! Greeted by Karen, the owner and made to feel right at home. Loved the tables and chairs since so many tasting rooms these days has just a bar. The wines where great and the Syrah was spectacular. However, the dessert wine Fig &Wine was Amazing!! After hearing great stories about how they do joint ventures with a local Fig grower to produce this wine we were sold and brought home a case. Can't wait to try this wine out in cooking as well as bringing as a hostess gift to parties. Thanks so much for the hospitality, we'll be sure to come back. Caela & David read more

We just love Four Brix. We worked with Karen to hold our rehearsal dinner at Four Brix and everyone loved it. Here were the highlights: 1. The wine (of course)!!! We picked out the Zeductive and the Smitten. We knew we had a lot of white drinkers, but they all just fell in love with the Zeductive. A testament to how good it is. Many guests ended up buying bottles to take home. 2. Karen and Gary. Karen was awesome to work with and Gary even took the time to tell our group about the winemaking process and answer questions. Such a treat! 3. Watching the crush. They had grapes in during our dinner and the destemming machine was working. It was fun to see the start of the process and we even got to taste some of the mash. I brought my Mom here as part of her birthday weekend - it was a really good time! Eileen was very sweet and explained the various wines we tried on our flight. We also got the cheese platter for $20.00. We really enjoyed the Zeductive and bought two bottles to bring home with us. The space was really nice - much better than it looked on the outside! The only reason I am not giving it a 5 star rating is that the pours were smaller than we have had at other tastings. We will be back the next time we are in Ventura! read more

Roseo 2010 is a blend of Grenache and Zinfandel. It has a bright raspberry color, intense fruit flavors of strawberry and watermelon, yet is made in the French Provence style, completely dry, well-structured and balanced with a lingering finish. This is a great sipping wine. Thumbs up, way up! Scosso 2009 is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. It has a ruby color with a bouquet that opens up more and more as you indulge. It drinks well now and has enough tannins to age for years. There is richness on the front end and the viscosity evokes a feeling of heavy creaminess like cream soda without the carbonation. The finish has a touch of blackberries and will last all night. This has a very smooth yet spicy end. This is great for sipping paired with some good cheese. Thumbs up, way up! read more

What a great find. While visiting in Ventura, we went off the beaten track to find this engaging winery in an industrial strip mall. This involves the staff, grounds and anything unique about the winery.*** Tasted: Early -2013 Tasting room fee: $10 (Not sure if waived with purchase) Wine price range: $15-$40 Wow! This is Ventura? I was lucky to stumble upon this place with some wine friends. Located in an industrial park, you gotta look beyond all this because inside you are transported to a comfy tasting room with a view out into their barrel storage room. We were lucky enough to get to meet the winemaker and get a tour of the place and what they are working on. All of their wines have a story on how they came to be and how most originated from a vacation to a specific wine region. There is a lot of love put into these wines. The winemaker was not shy in sharing struggles and mistakes he made when getting into this business. But what really came through was his passion not only for the wine, but for ensuring his products were priced fairly. As such, the QPR is excellent here. They have a great wine club and our group thoroughly enjoyed the wines. We got a sneak peak at some of the upcoming releases and there are some great things on the horizon for Four Brix. Be sure not to miss this hidden gem in Ventura. read more
