Our go-to bar and hangout spot in Tallahassee! The renovations at Fermentation Lounge over the years have completely brightened up and modernized the bar, without losing all of the charm of my old favorite grad school hangout. The upgrade also has allowed for more beers on draft and in bottles. Seriously, this selection is extensive, eclectic, and going to take me a long to work through. The new seating is a big plus, as more people can now fit inside, which is a necessity for the summer. A bit of outdoor seating has been added, ensuring that you can enjoy the fall and spring evenings. With the addition of Fool's Fire Brewing next door, you can always stop in their too to try a local brew. Overall, Ferm is such a great spot for a night out! read more

This is a cool place in the funky little All Saints area next to Sugar Rush and down the street from the Bark. It's a dark and narrow bar but still welcoming and comfortable. The bartenders are super friendly and helpful when you're not sure what to order. On my most recent visit, I had a grapefruit radler and also a cherry mead from Meridian Hive. Both were delicious alone as well as mixed together. My only complaint is that there is only one single bathroom. I swear the minute you go in and lock the door, someone else is trying to get in. Oskar Blues, Lagunitas, Bells, etc. I'd elaborate on their extensive selection of ciders, wines and meads, but those aren't my forte. Also, I learned last night that if you wish to take a beer to go, you may choose any bottled beer and purchase it for 25% off. Fascinating! And also an exceptional ploy to try out those certain brews you can never buy singles of in retail stores. The service is always delightful. They have a large selection of beers on tap and canned, as well as wine. Small, but various bar menu. We tried the pretzels, one with German mustard, and the second with cheese. I was pleasantly surprised to see them actually heating the cheese stove top and it was saved in the sauce pan it which it was cooked. Saw that they have a special on Tuesday nights, two tacos for $5.00. While seating is limited inside, the do offer outside tables and chairs. Hands down, my sons' favorite bar in Tallahassee and one of mine as well. This was his last time at Ferm since the purpose of my trip was to help him move to California. I guess you could say the "party" was for him since I met many people who were friends, co-workers and faculty at FSU. The bar had put aside some special bombers just for us to taste and they were all great. This place has an awesome selection of beers, both on tap and in bottles, with a limited menu of munchies. There is, however, a little sandwich shop right next door. Ferm is located in a neighborhood on a little side street and, like another reviewer has said, you need to look for it. Nothing flashy on the outside, or inside for that matter. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Their selection of beers is awesome and constantly changing. Fermentation Lounge is a hidden dive in a cool area of Tallahassee. They host a long list of beers on tap and an even longer list of beers in a bottle. Both lists contain local brews as well as craft brews from around the country. Seating, on a busy night, could be a bit sparse. Their bar has 10 or so stools, and their seating area has a couple of tables and a handful of couches, all of which smell faintly of stale cigarettes. Additionally, there is an open air outdoor seating area where beers are permitted as are furry four-legged friends. If you are in the market for a run in the mill, cheap beer, this is not the place. On the other hand, if you are looking for a quality selection of interesting porters, stouts, IPAs, and ales, this is a great bar that you will be glad you found. With a rotating selection of award winning beers, a casual divey ambiance, and friendly bar keeps, I will be back to Fermentation Lounge for sure, and I will be sure to bring my friends! read more

They have a great selection of beer, some wine options, and food options too...soft pretzels FTW!!! Of course, it not being a full bar will turn some folks off but they more then make up for it with friendly service and the fact it's always a fun chill night there. Bonus- They brew their own stuff. Try the mead. Last time I went that way was NYE and there was a small crowd (weather was awful) compared to what you'd find in other places on that night but it was a perfect way to ease into the night. I've been coming here for six years, and have loved it until now. The male bartender with glasses is a controlling and rude individual. He tried to force me to move seats at the bar on a Tuesday night. It's totally quiet, no line, and rather than politely asking, he rudely insists "you can't sit beneath the blue arrow! That's where people place orders." (a) this is a bar I've been coming to for a long time, and the bartender takes orders from any point on the bar. Not "under the blue arrow." (b) don't put chairs in places you don't want people to sit. Ultimately, this dude didn't want to listen to my friend and I laughing it up (only two people at the bar), so he tried to force us to move. It's an empty Tuesday night. I would understand if it was a busy day, and if we were not drinking and just taking up space. But that's not how to treat paying customers. Even better, he refused to pour my friend's beer last time we went - I.e holding a grudge. When we tried to place the order, he turned around and poured himself a beer instead. Not only is the draft and bottle selection encyclopedic in scope, but the staff is well-equipped to make recommendations and guide you through the process of selecting the ideal brew. I spent an hour here on a sleepy Sunday evening and within 15 minutes was half finished with a quality 16oz dunkelweiss and talking about finer points of German rail efficiency with the bartender. Down from a solid 5 star review, Fermentation has some problems. This was the best place in Tallahassee (not saying much), but they were a laid back, mature bar with fantastic beer. And dog friendly. Well, like all things in Tallahassee, they have taken a good thing and tweaked it until it is just...wrong. Ferm is serving food now. If people were crowding the place for the last two years with no food, what makes them think they need to be a restaurant? Of course, that also means that now all of the sweet little dogs are not allowed, which was much of its charm. The food is average to poor. The place makes a bad restaurant. I'm not going to sit here and claim that Fermentation Lounge is the equivalent of the Toronado or Redlight Redlight, but I can say with certainty that it's a hip craft beer bar that does a excellent job with its tap selection and bottle list. Like many a good beer geeks' hangout, Fermentation is a relatively unassuming bar from the outside, tucked back within a neighborhood. It's not the kind of place one will randomly happen upon while strolling around Tallahassee - you have to want to find it. Sampler flights of three are offered, which is always a nice touch. It's also possible to go with a "double flight" of 6, which is exactly what we did. Not with beer, but with mead, mind you - turns out this place boasts a nice little mead selection, and the guys behind the counter are more than happy to let you in on it. I particularly enjoyed the Viking Blod, a mead of which I have a bottle at home, but have been afraid to crack open because it's 19% ABV. I shouldn't have been hesitant. It sounds big and tough, and does indeed look like blood due to the addition of hibiscus, but it's surprisingly gentle and balanced for such a powerful beverage. My visits to Tallahassee-area bars weren't comprehensive, but from what I did experience, my feeling is that this is the best beer bar in town. read more

Once walking into this bar the hipster vibe was too overbearing that it made me a bit weary. Surveying the area it has an outside eating area and the actual "bar" is a small little hole in the wall that seems more like a cafe than a bar. Also for the normal peak hours at night it was really weird that my friend and I were the practically the only people in there. I'm a big fan of finding great beers on tap but they only had 8 on tap which is pretty low for a place that calls their self a bar. I ended up getting the Hefe and the bartender was really rude to my friend and I and it seemed like he just wanted to talk to the other guy working there instead of taking care of customers. The bottle selection was mediocre with pricey beers for tap or bottle. I really wanted to try the Viking Blod mead but they charge $6 for only 3oz! I notice they serve snack foods there for over $10, so I'm wondering what is the actual incentive to go there? I ended up walking 30 minutes there because I saw it was #1 rated on here, only to be hugely disappointed. I don't think I will want to venture here again there are much better options in Tallahassee. read more

I had the privilege to meet the owners and know all the staff personally. The service is fantastic and friendly unlike other bars in the area. One exciting thing is that they brew there own beer that is beyond good. I believe there is a citrus summer ale there that i find to be just hands down charming and perfect.
