I've reached the point where I may need to start referring to Growler Country Tavern & Grill as "The Office." Not because I work there, but because it's become increasingly difficult to explain to my family why I keep disappearing for "a quick bite and one beer" and returning three hours later with a suspiciously good mood. The first thing that gets you is the food. The prices say "local tavern," but the quality says somebody in the kitchen is showing off. Everything arrives with the kind of care and attention to detail that makes you wonder if they accidentally sent your order to the wrong table--the fancy table. Then there's the beer selection. Calling it the largest in North Florida might sound like marketing until you open the menu and realize it has more options than some people's retirement plans. If they don't have a beer you like, there's a decent chance you don't actually like beer. What really seals the deal is the atmosphere. Plenty of places claim Southern hospitality. Growler actually feels like they're happy you showed up. No attitude, no pretension, just good people serving great food and enough beer choices to make decision-making a team sport. At this point, if my family asks where I'm going, I'll simply say, "The Office." Technically it's not a lie. I finally got a chance to try this place and it did not disappoint. First off the service was fantastic and the guy working up front gave good beer and food recommendations. They offer a very unique selection of beers and they have beer flights which allows you the opportunity to try 4 different selections. The nachos were good and you have the option to choose to have them topped with pork or chicken. I also had the Macdaddy which is a hotdog topped with mac and cheese. I'm starting to really become partial to Growler Country. They're known for serving craft beers but they definitely offer more than just ales and IPAs. I wasn't able to indulge in anything on my first visit during the summer because I was working out and my diet didn't allow beer or pretty much anything on their menu. A co-worker of mine told me a few months ago that they have a Taco Thursday where they serve $1 and $2 tacos so I made it imperative to get down and dirty with the food AND alcohol on my second appearance. I started off with the regular pork taco and their Cajun chicken taco. Both were terrific but I was smitten with the Cajun chicken. On the next go 'round, I tried the fiesta taco and had another Cajun chicken. I also decided to try the Buffalo Mac which is mac and cheese with two different cheeses, three if you include the blue cheese crumbles, buffalo chicken and bacon. Their food was so satisfying, it made me want to be gluttonous and order like two or three more items! Definitely deserving of their reputation as one of the best bars in Florida! With so many taps and a cozy seating area, Growler Country feels more like a brewery tasting room than it does a regular bar. The selection has something for every taste and budget, allowing you to just sit and sample for as long as you want. And, should you have a moment of indecision, the knowledge bartenders and digital menu with tons of information on the beers will help steer you towards your next great glass of beer. There are even a bunch of local beers on the taplist, if you don't feel like wandering to each of the breweries individually. Since opening, the space has expanded and offers tons of room even for large groups! They also have added dartboards and games and updated decorations to liven up the place over the years. The expansion was much needed after a while, as the bar had become too popular for its previous amount of space. Finally, even though it's changed ownership, Growler Country is still the home of the Brew Bus! If you want to get out of Tallahassee to breweries in the area or hop on a local tour, there are trips going on almost every weekend for a reasonable price! For the 4th of July I set up a pick up of their mojo pork tacos (enough fixings for 12) and orders of their spicy and not so spicy chicken tacos (spicy had their chipotle mayo-amazing! and the non-spicy has corn and black beans with their chicken). I'm currently itching to go take advantage of their taco Thursday specials where you can get their tacos for $2 because they really were that good. I was able to taste various beers to go in a growler for my husband (a Yuengling man) and their cider for me. Went here for one of their classes on the components of brewing and had a good time. I also walked away with a half growler of a great beer, which made the experience all the better! The space is in a strip mall, but decorated well. They have two long tables that you can sit at to enjoy a beer and play some of the games they have to choose from. They also have a framed sign up with the deets on their free wifi - I am tempted to work out of here! ;) They have over twenty beer selections, all of which you can sample. The online site shows exactly how much is left in each keg, so if you're like me, you check daily for when to go and get the growler filled! You can sample any beer on tap. The digital menu above contains all the information you need to know about your beer. Two long, wooden tables encourage you to stay and hang out. Six packs, four packs of seasonal and limited releases are stocked in two coolers. Shelves are filled with growlers, more six packs, crowlers, bombers, t-shirts, etc. You get the picture. The food is definitely larger than you would anticipate so come hungry. We also ordered the baked wings as an appetizer to start and they may actually be the best in town. There are only about 4-5 options for flavors on the wings but whatever one was ordered for our table were dang good! The Winter Beers they had were on point as well! My first experience at Growler Country felt very bland and not that great. I was unsure if I was going to like this place, but during my most recent visit it was a good time. I feel like you have to be in the mood to kick back and just enjoy your drinks when coming here. This is not a party place. It was great that they have expanded the space and allow a lot more seating now. You can sit on tables in the front outside, some high bar seats inside, or more tables in the back to play some darts. Staff is very helpful and they are patient when you order. I have never been when it was crazy packed, but the crowd tends to be more locals and older adults since it is quite a distance from campus. Beer is the word here and you really should sample as much as you can when stopping by. They rotate their tap list and it is usually a variety of Florida beers. It is great that they offer lots of ciders and fruity flavors for those not into Ales or IPAs. I think they do have 2 options for wine if you completely are against the beer. lol. There is also some food here such as nachos, beer cheese with fries or a giant ass pretzel. I bought my first Growler from here and it was a cute and proud moment. The only reason (I think) that my sister and I came to this place when I was in town last time was because they had done a tap takeover with oyster city (who happens to have a beet ipa that is one of my favorites.) I loved it while we were there. Most of the beers were Oyster City but they did have other stuff on tap. ( I didn't try any of these because the Red Snapper IPA is one of my favorites ever.) The only thing I can say about this place, and this goes for anywhere I have found in florida, is that the growlers seem high. In Indiana, a growler fill tends to run 8 to 10 dollars but in Florida, they all seem to be 20 to 25 maybe. It is like buying 4 full pints (which is fine) but in Indiana, you get a break by buying a growler and it is much cheaper. Either way, will definitely be back to Growler Country on my next trip to Tallahasee. read more

A great new addition to Tallahassee! What started as a place to just pick up beer (growlers) has become a great place to drink and hang. It looks small form the outside, but there are multiple rooms and a front patio. The space is cozy with games. Kind of like barroom meets living room or a cabin you might rent with friends. The food was fresh, and they have a great claim to the best Cuban in Tallahassee. The service was fantastic. The main draw is probably the beer/drink selection. As to their rewards program, of which I am a member, I am not sure it's worth it. Not a bad little spot. It has a pretty unique selection of beer compared to other tap room style joints. The food selection was decent although they had no fries available at a time when cheese fries would have been awesome...and the chicken in the nachos was slightly above room temp which was kind of disappointing. But other than that they weren't too bad. The tacos we ordered were delicious and I'm not even a chipotle mayo fan. I recommend it. This was a great stop to make for the first of our honeymoon trip. Never go here unless you want to be charged $28 dollars for a jug of beer that was the $10 "MEMBER PRICE". This error was discovered and brought to the attention of "Henry" the owner, who refused to reimburse us, and thereby correct his tap manager error. BEFORE ordering, we had discussed the Sunday MEMBER PRICES AT LENGTH with bearded man bar tender. The food was mediocre at best; we were given NO plates of any kind, NO utentils, NO condiments...if you like eating like a savage and being overcharged, order your food and drinks here. It's been years to going to Growler Country and I really liked the expanded space. They have a menu of food now, plenty of seating (indoor and outdoor), and games. You might be turned off by the location at first, as it looks run down and next to a gas station, but don't let that stop you from going in! There are 24 rotating beers on tap, including a red and white tap for wine. I like how you can see how full/empty the tap is on the menu board and on their website. The food was okay - chips & salsa were very good, wings were meh, and pork Mac n cheese was tasty. A friend got the $17 meat and cheese pretzel and it was kind of weird/messy to eat. Some of the beers are really expensive for a 10oz pour. Next time we'll take advantage of the weekly specials. Friday happy hour is BOGO, Thurs $1 tacos, and Tues $5 flights. They also have a Citizens Program for $10 that gives access to discounted beer and growlers, BOGO Saturday's, etc. it's probably worth it.
