We are planning a trip and have stayed here several times over the years. Went to find our lovely red retreat and found it had been homogenized and neutered into The Pinetree Hotel. This used to be such a unique and quaint experience. I loved the cottages and the chickens. It had a woodsy feel and very country. The new owners have ruined it. Made it into a bland monochromatic overpriced blah. It is so ugly and tasteless now. If you want to stay somewhere that looks like you are not in the wilderness, stay here. Shame on them. It is so horrible now. Such a loss. read more

We enjoyed our stay here we returned for another visit two weeks later. The new owners fixed up the pool and they keep it clean and at 85 degrees. We also enjoyed the sauna and the cold plunge. One small thing that I really appreciate is that they have nice shampoo and conditioner so that you don't have to pack your own. Many hotel products are simply a waste. This little getaway is really nice! We had the Cherry Blossom studio, and it was very clean, with a very comfortable bed & a great TV. A coffee maker & a mini fridge with a microwave. Bowls, plates & silverwear. The only thing I would say about it negatively is that their bathroom in that particular studio is very narrow. My husband is tall, and he had to sit sideways on the toilet to even fit on it. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay & would recommend it! read more

Tesla Charging Review Only This is the only place around Idyllwild where you can charge your Tesla or other EV (they have adapter) so it can be a literal life saver or a simple anxiety reducer. I called ahead and the friendly person quoted $5 per hour or full charge for $20 for non guests of the Inn - cash or credit card payment accepted and the available hours for charging are 8am-4pm. I arrived there needing only an hour, but was told by the attending staff who seemed to be bothered I was there, that a minimum of 2 hours is required for paying by card. They have 2 chargers (level 2 - 40 amp) that are located at the office with a tandem parking spot. There's no cell phone coverage (T-mobile) - no wifi was offered and no public restroom, so be prepared. read more

If you want peace and quiet with a side of relaxation, then the Fern Valley Inn is the place for you. If you want luxury and glam, then you might want to go elsewhere. The Mrs. and I have been visiting the Fern Valley Inn off and on for a little over 10 years. Other then new owners, some fresh paint, and some very minor upgrades, the place hasn't changed. The cabins are very rustic. Each of them are decorated differently, but you still feel like your trapped in the 1960s. The entire property has about 10 cabins on it that are various sizes depending on how many people in your group. We've stayed in the Heidelberg Zinner and Havana Bungalow the last few times we've stopped in. The beds aren't the most comfortable beds in the world, unless you like a really hard bed. There are also fireplaces in each cabin, but you have to provide the wood. The cabins we stayed in had a microwave and wet bar. There is also ample parking. The location is great also. The Fern Valley Inn is about a mile or less from town so you are far enough away that you don't have to deal with all the noise. You are close to Cafe Aroma and the Idyllwild Brewpub. The cost per night is reasonable compared to other places in Idyllwild. We paid $123. The Fern Valley Inn sits in a residential neighborhood so if you're looking to whoop it up, just be respectful of your surroundings. read more

Impromptu weekend getaway. We very much enjoyed Cabin was well kept with all the amenities in a quiet and off the beaten path location. The property was cute and well kept also. The owners were friendly and attentive. It is a perfect walk to restaurants/shopping (about a mile). Had a wonderful stay at this quaint and immaculate property. The grounds consist of multi leveled gardens with a huge variety of plants. There are yard games, bbqs and multiple sitting areas. The rooms are updated and well appointed. The suite I stayed in #7 was tucked away with a front porch and private side deck. The inns keepers are gracious and obviously take great pride in the property. read more

Been here a few times now, and loved each experience. Be aware, if you're going to have a late check in, the office closes at 8pm but if you call ahead, they leave a key and map to your cabin. The staff is so incredibly nice and accommodating and our cabin was the cutest! read more

Good thing about the place: Only about 1 mile away from town. Bad: The place was not clean. Upon walking into our cabin I noticed a strange musty odor but I tried to just let it go. After our almost 3 hour drive I immediately went to use the restroom and there was literally a particle of POOP near the toiler flusher. The bathroom sink was clogged and the hand soap was a busted up watered down version of whatever soap was already inside there. We wanted to watch a little TV before heading into town and and the TV remote was literally so greasy and felt so dirty. The carpet was gross, we dared not walk around barefoot. WIFI- non existent. Their website claims there is free WIFI, which there was... but I doesn't even work! We love Idyllwild so much and visit it numerous times a year and usually we book AIRBNB's and we have always loved the places we have stayed but this place was just awful. Never again. read more

We stayed in cabin for two nights and was very cozy and comfortable. First thing we saw when we walked in Cabin was the word relax :) and that exactly what we did. Kids loved it here , after hiking we went walking outside the garden and sat outside the patio. We were only 1 mike away from town and hiking trails, very convenient. We worried we would run out of hot water for showering, but entire time we had hot water, we had 4 showering. Water from faucet are coming from spring, so water is good to drink and better then bottle water. We drove our Tesla here and was first time up a mountain and cold weather at night. Lost about 27 miles over night due to car keeping battery warm. Had 77 miles and by morning had 50 miles. Overall , we recommend coming here and we will be back with friends and family! read more

My family and I (including two young children) stayed at Fern Valley Inn last weekend. The Inn far exceeded our expectations. Our cabin had wooden panels befitting the area and a big fireplace that we would have used if it were winter. Soft bedsheets and towels. Dishes and silverware in the unit. The best part--and a pleasant surprise--was the landscaping, games, puzzles, chicken coop, giant chess board, miniature golf, and folk artwork decorating the property. The air was pine-scented and clean, so having fun things to do on site was a treat. Marcie was also very kind. We hope to go again! read more

Stopped here for a Tesla charge (the only one in the area!). Marcie was so gracious and kind! She and her husband Gary owns this charming and serene place! During our charge, we enjoyed the garden. It was so magical and peaceful. Cabins are all in the back where the garden is. Tons of trees, plants, and flowers. Woodpecker tree, treasures were hidden in the most precious places! WOW! After booking online and confirming our reservation by email 3 months ago, I called closer to the date in order to make arrangements for late check in after 10pm (as it says on their website) but instead had the rudest and nastiest conversation with Gary that totally shocked me... Checking In and Out POLICY: "Check in time is 3:00 to 10:00 pm. If you must arrive later than 10:00 pm, prior arrangements must be made. Please call. Check out is 11:00 am." Clearly, Gary does not follow his own policy as per above from his website. Please do not offer guests the option to call to make prior arrangements for check in later than 10pm if you cannot deliver. Gary crossed the line when he rudely told me to"leave the wedding to come check in before 10pm because the world does not revolve around me and he is not losing sleep because of me." When I calmly but firmly called him out on his rudeness, he cancelled our reservation saying, "guess what, you no longer have a reservation here." Great! Glad HE cancelled our reservation, so at least we are not responsible for any portion of the cancelled reservation. We would rather not spend the night some place where we are treated with such lack of courtesy even before showing up. Lesson learnt: call and talk to someone before making any plans to find out if it is someone nice, respectful and professional. read more

Fern Valley Inn was the perfect choice for a quick recharge . It was quiet and a perfect location to get away from the crowds in town, but easily accessible to the restaurants when the need arises. We skipped The crowded restaurants and picked up food at the local store and cooked dinner in our cabin, it had everything we needed , sitting by our fireplace having dinner was just too perfect. If your looking for that wooden screen door and sitting on Grandmas porch feeling, this is the place. What a great night we had at this charming cabin In the woods. It was clean and quiet as can be. We were greeted by Gary upon arrival, who happened to be from our neighboring city Whittier. He was such a nice guy and made us feel welcome! We stayed in the "Hideaway" cabin which was off to the back side by itself. Perfectly tucked away for privacy. The room was decorated very nice. There was also a cute little fireplace in our room that was all set with a 3 hour log. It was a very nice touch. Close to town and all hiking. Just perfect!! We will be back! read more

My wife and i stayed in the rose room over the weekend. The room was clean and cozy. There is additional floor space for a small kitchen/dining area in this room compared to the other smaller-sized rooms. However there are also larger rooms available for larger families. The rosey color and outdoorsy, rustic theme was adorable. The bed was new and comfortable. The room has kitchenware and diningware and a stove and microwave for your convenience. Maid service is an extra $20 per day but we didnt need it. They have a small chicken coop and you can get fresh eggs. As a family run business, the managers were very friendly and accommodating. It was a pleasure to meet both of them. They truly care that you enjoy your stay. There is plenty to do in idlywild and it is a great weekend getaway. If not out in town or on an adventure, you can lounge in the courtyard, which is peaceful and helps you feel in tune with nature. Note that a swimming pool was turned into a cistern for water conservation reasons; however there are other ways to cool off. Room comes with a heater and some come with a fireplace, which is great for the winter. I didnt see an AC unit in the rose room. If so, it could get a bit warm in the summer. OVERALL: Well recommended. Hosts are very pleasant and room has a welcoming cozy/woodsy charm. Worth coming back in the future. read more

Fern Valley Inn has been our go-to weekend retreat in Idyllwild for years. It is situated just up the hill from the town of Idyllwild and [maybe a km further] below the Humber Park trailhead that leads to exploring the expansive San Jacinto Mtn wilderness, including multiple peaks and vistas. From the Inn an enjoyable walk into town; in the opposite direction, an invigorating walk uphill to the trailhead. Speaking of which: there are actually 2 nearly adjacent trailheads, so if you prefer a lighter jaunt with little elevation changes: the Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail. Of course one can reach those two adjacent trailheads by car in less than 5 mins from the Inn. Returning to the Inn, under the friendly hospitality of Marcie and Gary... serene grounds, with quaint rustic art, towering conifers here and there, surround the collection of 10 cottages and cabins. Inside the cottage: no kitschy or superfluous decor or such. [Refreshing for eyes impacted by the "too-much-ness" of sprawling suburbia below] Always well arranged and comfortable. In fact, we've noticed improvements recently with all. Speaking of comfort: more than sufficient heating [when needed], and hot water in the bathroom. Though the fireplace in the corner beckons to us, its been quite some time, years, since using it ---which speaks of how comfortable and cozy all is, as is. Highly recommend. read more

This is an excellent place to get away from the city life. The staff and people in this area are very friendly and welcoming. The room was small but very cozy. It has a small kitchen and a fireplace, perfect for a romantic getaway. There is no cellphone reception and the WiFi is kinda spotty but it's perfect because the idea of coming up here is to get away from it all and enjoy nature with family, friends and loved ones. This cozy cabin has been such a pleasure to stay at. My husband and I have stayed here twice already and we LOVE it there! It's the only place in Idyllwild that offers a one night minimum stay. All of the other cabins/lodges/inns require a two night stay. So if you're just looking to stay for one night Fern Valley Inn is the perfect place. The hospitality is amazing. The owners are very friendly and sweet. They are on site and will help out with anything you need to make your stay as comfortable as they can. The rooms are cozy, clean, and have everything you need. We were very happy we found such an adorable little place. It's very close to town and all the shops and dining. It's located in a beautiful neighborhood and has plenty of parking. I can't emphasize how happy we were to have found such a little gem in the forest. Stopped in for a Tesla charge as the battery drain was much worse than anticipated due to steep elevation climb, warm temperatures and a car full of high school kids. Gary and Marcie saved the day with the Tesla destination charger. Spoke to them for quite awhile waiting for the car to charge and you couldn't ask for nicer people. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in cabin #9. The pros: The owners are very nice and welcoming. The grounds are pretty cute, with small cute statuetes of animals and a big community fire pit. Our cabin, #9, was an adequate size for the 3 of us. The cons: The cabins did smell a bit and the furniture felt dated and dusty. The shower was tiny and did not drain properly. After 5 minutes, I was worried about flooding the bathroom floor. We would consider staying here again, but would definitely look around before making that decision. read more

Needed a place to come in to town and crash with my son before we headed up to Mt. San Jacinto. Most of the places here charge $200/night, while Fern Valley Inn only charged $95. Great quaint place in Fern Valley (my family and I have rented condos in the area prior and love the quiet atmosphere). Room was small but comfortable and clean. We checked in at 3:00 and were out by 8:00 to head up the mountain. (Took Deer Springs trail.) read more

My boyfriend and I booked a room here for a quiet & romantic Christmas Eve and we were not disappointed. We stayed in Angel's Cabin, which is a smaller but very cute & cozy room. The bed is comfy, the shower is roomy (no tub), it has a small kitchenette area with mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, glasses, silverware, etc., wall heater plus small wood burning fireplace to keep warm, cute bedside "table" that is actually an antique sewing machine, lots of extra pillows and everything was very clean. A very nice couple recently took over the property - they are very sweet, welcoming, and really seem to care, so don't let those older reviews scare you away. We got fresh eggs for breakfast right from the hens on the grounds and they were delicious. There is all kinds of stuff to look at on the grounds and a wall to sign your name on . I had the pleasure of staying here on a Saturday night, in June. I was drawn to this particular inn, because the reviews were favoreable and they did not require a 2-night weekend stay. That's a huge plus, for my wallet and fits within the time frame I have. The owner greeted my boyfriend and I when we arrived and was very kind. She explained that she and her husband have been the new owners for about 7 months. The grounds are adorable. There are statued animals throughout, a gazebo, fire pit, bbq grills, and several cottages. We stayed in #3, Angel's Cottage. The room was quaint. It had a full-size bed, tv, fireplace (starter log), mini fridge, microwave, seating area, coffee pot, closet, extra pillows, toiletries, hair dryer, and dishes. It did not include a dresser or drawers for storing clothing (but had some hangars on a rod), the screen door was crooked, which allowed bugs to come in (attracted to the light), and the wallpaper was peeling. It's "old and worn," but met my budget needs and was enough to where I'd easily stay there again. read more

I am not one to write negative reviews but I can't keep quiet about my awful experience at the Fern Valley Inn. I was up in Idyllwild for a friend's wedding that was scheduled to start at 4pm. and stopped by earlier in the day to find out when I might be able to check in. Perry ( who someone else in a review described as a "grumpy unhappy sour old man") in the front office let me know in the rudest of manner that check in time was at 3pm and there was no budging on that even if the room was ready earlier. At 2:52 pm I returned thinking that I could fill out the paper work and get into my room at 3... in just enough time to quickly get ready and run to the wedding. Perry was once again unwelcoming and rudely commented on how I was early. I decided to get up the courage to ask him why he was making this so difficult for me (the room was ready and again- I was only 8 minutes early) and during our exchange he proceeded to get extremely angry - shaking with rage and ripped up my registration and refused to let me stay there!! This man should NOT be dealing with the public and needs some anger management!! I almost felt sorry for him..but I was so inconvenienced that there wasn't much time for compassion. Please do yourself a favor and go stay in any number of other lovely accommodations that Idyllwild has to offer..where the people are warm and hospitable! read more

We needed a nice place to stay for a night and came across Fern Valley Inn. It is the only place we could find that would let us stay for one night over the weekend. It was so cute and charming. The grounds were really nice and the pool area was a great bonus since it was so hot when we were there. Gary was also really welcoming. We will definitely be back. read more

NOTE: Come up here to check-in before sunset because the GPS does not always work here. We were driving in circles and way off thanks to the GPS. The signals are bad here and we had to phone in for help. Once we arrived we were smitten. The rooms/cabins are clean and cozy. We stayed in the German cabin #9. I love that it is tucked away front eh village and you can stroll around and explore. The service was outstanding and yes there is WI-FI but ours actually worked better from the patio. There is a pool but it was in need of some massive cleaning it would be nice if there was a hot tub however. I am for sure coming back again soon! read more
