This was a 5 star place all the way around!! This is a family owned business and you can sense the pride and love that they pour into this property. This hotel has 6 stand-alone units on a large piece of mountain property which is mostly secluded, although it is in an Idyllwild "neighborhood". It is also a brisk 15-20 min walk to the downtown area. A little history of this place - all the cabins were originally built in the early 50's and most of the units still have the original decor & fixtures such as toilets, tile, fireplaces, etc. so you might say this is straight mid-century and not mid-century "modern" . Again, this is a family business that was bought by the grandfather back in 1978 and has been run by his son & daughter-in-law with their son helping out. It is also very well maintained. They have a pool on the grounds that is heated to 80 degrees and no, there is no hot tub. This was the second time we've stayed here. The first time was a few years ago and we stayed in "The Cottage in the Woods" which was wonderful because it is "down the gravel road" away from the other units and is very secluded. My girlfriend was drawn to the hammock in the picture and was disappointed to hear that the deer keep eating the hammocks so they are no longer there. This time we stayed in room 5A (roughly $200 a night with taxes & fees) which was a larger room. The way it is set up, there are 5 separate stand alone buildings with the exact same layout - the A and B sides both have their own private deck with chairs so you can sit out and soak up the nature. The A unit is much larger and comes with a brick fireplace (firewood is available for $6 at the office on the honor system and fire starters are free at the office). There is a small kitchen complete with pots, pans, dishes, silverware, glasses, coffee maker, toaster, fridge, etc. The bed is super comfy and there was also an extra double bed just inside the door. We were here in August and it was warm, so we kept the ceiling fan going the whole time. They also had a box fan in the closet and a wall swamp cooler A/C unit which we didn't really use because the noise makes it hard for my girlfriend to sleep. We really love that basically one wall of the room was floor to ceiling windows which really make you feel like you are a part of the forest! I am also glad that they have curtains that cover said windows so you can have privacy when you want it. The B units are much smaller "mother-in-law suites" which connect to the A units with a door (which stays closed & locked if you don't rent both units). The B units don't have a kitchen (but they do have small refrigerators, microwave and coffee makers). They don't have brick fireplaces but, instead have smaller wood burning chimineas. I felt like the larger room was well-worth the extra that we paid but the smaller units were also nice for those on more of a budget. Each room comes with a nice 32" smart TV and DVD player (They loan out DVDs at the office - see my pic of their DVD library). They have good WiFi - we brought our own firestick and were able to have all our channels, playlists & shows, which was nice. We were here for 2 nights which was good but we have realized that it takes one day to rest, shake off the work week and shift into vacation mode. We wish that we had come for 3 nights to really give us a couple days of good vacation energy, instead of one day to adjust & recoup and a couple of half days of true vacation. Again, this was a 5 star lodging experience and I highly recommend Woodland Park Manor for anyone looking to have a really nice mountain vacation! read more

For 30 years, I have stayed at Woodland Park Manor when visiting Idyllwild. A peaceful mountain setting with amazing nature views. The cabins are in the middle of beautiful, tall trees, a mini park, and pathways with wild flowers (summer). There's a flurry of activity from squirrels, chipmunks, bluejays, and woodpeckers. The family that owns it (Collin, Denise and Matt), is very friendly and accommodating. Downtown Idyllwild is walking distance from the cabins - slightly over a mile. If you like alpine settings, this is the right place. The cabins are duplexes with a large side and a smaller side. I take the large side as I prefer the large deck to enjoy a cup of coffee, read a book, take photos, watch the wildlife, or just enjoy the scenery. This setting renews my soul. read more

We nearly came up with a major issue, if we hadn't checked in with the office to confirm a reservation. It feels like you are staying in the woods. We needed a little getaway from San Diego and this was definitely the spot. They have a nice grill and covered table area next to it. It is only about a mile to the little town area. It is not far from Devils Slide Trail and others! The cottage had a large living area and small kitchen area. This review is for Wren's Nest during a winter stay. I found Wren's Nest on Airbnb and was taken aback by the glowing reviews--4.98 star-rating, the highest I've ever seen. Is this for real?? Yes!! So if you're looking to stay here, there are better pictures on Airbnb and the reviews are pretty accurate. I didn't know what to expect of Idyllwild, but was looking for a short getaway from Los Angeles to take my 4-month old daughter. I wanted snow but not too much where it would be dangerous to drive up or get snowed in so Idyllwild was perfect. The only complaints I have were that the house is listed as a 15-minute walk into town but it's kind of dangerous walking on the road with an infant next to cars driving 30+ mph, and that the floors seemed dusty which I only noticed because we play on the floor a lot. Wren's Nest was perfect for our dog because the entire property was fenced in and we could leave him out to play in the snow while we could enjoy some warmth inside the cottage. There was even a doggie door so he could choose when to come back in. Dogs aren't allowed on the bed or furniture, so just make sure to bring a bed or blanket if that's what they normally sleep on. The kitchen amenities are probably the best I've ever seen--Wüsthof knives, Calphalon pots and pans, a Le Crueset kettle, and dish- and drink-ware made in England or Japan. The GE appliances were cute and retro looking, which made the cottage feel cozier. Look up "Airbnb Wren's Nest Idyllwild" for photos that are true to expectations. read more

I am not even sure where to begin. I suppose I'll start off my saying that we couldn't even stay at the cabin because of the issues we experienced. We were able to check in, but we only spent about 2 hours there and didn't even get a chance to unpack! We rented a cabin by the creak for our friends birthday. Let's start with the check in process. We finally arrived and when we got to the office, we had a short wait for someone to come to us. It's an extremely small office. Maybe the size of a bathroom. When we got some help it was super quick to check in. Though it was strange they didn't ask for ID to verify it was our reservation. They gave us a copy of the road instructions to get to the cabin. I can't stress enough!!!! That they told us the most ridiculous directions and the map was NOT correct. What was told to us was far from where we needed to go! A 10 min drive was 45 minutes! And there is no reception.! We were told so many times from the owners that nobody gets lost and the instructions are fine. NOPE! They were so rude. The lady told us that people also think that they should go a certain way and miss it! Well it's there instructions! No wonder people have questions. When we finally go the cabin all of the windows were open! And it was so hot out! When we walked through the house there was a massive amount of flies! We called the office and they sent her son over. He was a bit rude as well! So I talked back! I was not happy. He swatted the flies with a towels and vacuumed up was he could. They also only have a heating central system and only have a AC wall unit in the living room. It was so hot a wouldn't cool down. I must have called to complain multiple times! I finally told the office that we can't stay there. They said they were booked but would comp us that night. The outside patio wasn't the cleanest but not super surprised since it's by the creak. They also have instructions for the Wi-Fi. It's not even right! We all figured it out but clearly the instructions are way out dated. My last call to them was that we found an Airbnb and don't want to stay there. We spoke to the women again and the husband earlier. They told us that they would give us a refund. For the full amount! Paid almost $700 for the few days. I'm sure it may take a few days to see the money back but we haven't seen it retuned yet! I hope we actually get our money back. I'm glad they agreed to that but hope it actually happens! That's a lot of money. There is definitely some updates that really need to be done! The ceiling fans should be as well, we couldn't get them to go at full speed and some in the living room were moving more than I would want a fan to do. They had carpet that I feel should be cleaned a bit more as well. Had a vintage look but a "old" vintage look. Unfortunately, I don't think that we would ever stay over here again. We may try to stay in the winter time and see how it goes but we will not stay in that cabin. We were also told that most of the cabins don't have the AC unit but then somebody else in the family told us there was. We were misinformed a lot. The lady told us that we can call certificate to make a reservation for a cabin with AC. I do appreciate that they were willing to give us a refund and somehow work with us. But it was very frustrating to be back Talked to and make us look stupid. It wasn't the greatest customer service. The only reason I'm giving them two stars is because they are refunding us. Or they should be refunding us! I do hope that if we stay here again, the our service will be a lot better. read more

We loved our stay at Woodland Park Manor this New Year! The cabins are family owned and operated and the owners are very friendly and accommodating. They changed our stay dates last minute upon request because we really wanted to see the snow. They provide DVDs for rent at the front office and self service firewood. The cabins are very close to all the action and there is a lot of land to play in the snow and wander around. Awesome bird watching as well! We spotted Steel Bluejays and Chickadees from our room window! They would come to our porch in the morning and greet us. We loved building snowmen and sleds are provided for use. My husband and I stayed here in one of their duplex's in 1979. It was great. This year 202I, I came by myself to try their little cabin in the woods. I can't say enough how excellent it is. Everything you need is in this wonderful old fashioned cabin in the woods " quiet get away". Bed comfortable, windows all around for a great out doors feeling. Shower nice. Air conditioning works great, out door deck with nice table and chairs, hammock and a like new gas grill. Privacy and lots of trails all around and a meadow to walk through right next door. The cabin is the cleanest rental I've ever stayed in. WiFi works great and the TV has lots of channels. A fan over head and a little high ceiling adds to the ambience. The kitchen has it all ! Spotless. I am here in the summer, so I used the pool. But I am sure the little fire place will be cozy when it gets cold. They supply wood at little cost. My family had a last-minute cancellation one day before a planned 2-night stay in mid-October 2020 and so I called up Woodland Park Manor and spoke with Colin and they happened to have a cabin that was available (Oak Leaf) and Colin was incredibly gracious and helpful in securing our reservation with only 24 hours notice and thus saved our vacation. The cabin was a lot of fun and the full kitchen was great. The amount of property around the cabin was more than I was expecting which was a plus and my 2 boys enjoyed running laps around the cabin and picking up small sticks in the backyard for fire kindling. The staff was great and the property was quiet and peaceful. We look forward to returning. read more

WoW! Such a lovely place. We went up to Idyllwild for a easy, simple few days. We had a crazy busy week and just wanted do listen to birds chirp and smell the mountain air. This was perfect. While there is certainly rustic charm, it was just what we hoped for. The bed was very comfy. There was a fireplace in the room, but of course we did not need it in the summer heat. The grounds are beautiful. All the cottages wrap around a middle park area. Our cottage had a patio area we could sit out in the morning for our tea/coffee. The hosts were lovely. They gave us our key and for the most part left us alone. We walked to town one day. It was a longer walk, and the heat made it not ideal, but if it were cooler we would have been fine. I think it was 3+ miles round trip. All in all a sweet, simple place to unwind and enjoy nature. read more

My friend and I stayed at the Camelot on Azalea Creek. So let's start. The cabin itself was really difficult to find, but this is expected. Once we arrived, we were impressed! The cabin was really nice and spacious. Both bedrooms had separate restrooms and we also added the guest house. The guest house also had a bathroom. The backyard was also very nice. Overall the cabin was worth it. The cons- the cabin is in a residential area. You do have neighbors, and they have the property line marked. I'm not sure if this is to make visitors understand that you can't cross, but we understood it that way and decided not to explore that part. Also, I'm not sure if this in an Idyllwild thing, but there were many flies. Like a lot! That's really the worst thing about it. As soon as you open the door! After a certain time, the flies calm down, but you will find them in the house. The pool was cool - the staff was friendly. Overall, I think if you could get over the flies, the cabin is great. My family and I will definitely be coming back. Also - if you are there -visit the town. The town is nice -and also the nature center. It's a nice place to walk and explore. read more

Decided on a last minute stay in Idyllwild. Looked online and most places required a 2 night minimum or were not pet friendly. Ran across this place on Yelp and called Sat morning to see if there was any availabilities. I was in luck that they had a cabin available, pet friendly, and I was able to book for 1 night. Check in was quick and easy within 5 mins. There was also dvd's available in office to take back to your rental. Our rental was Glenwood I believe. It was 2 bedroom and had a hot tub on the back patio. Everything inside was clean and free of cobwebs. We did not use the hottub, but did take a peak inside and it was nice and clean. Across the street was the nature center. We walked over a did a walk/hike on 1 of their trails. It was easy and had nice views of nature. We plan on coming back in a few months for a longer stay and will definetly be booking here! read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night over presidents day weekend as a quick getaway and stayed in one of the duplexes which someone else described accurately in a previous review. I would have given it an additional star because it was a nice setting, the owner was very friendly, and we enjoyed the fresh air and time away. They even allow pets so we were able to bring our dog with us. The only reason I'm docking a star is because the walls were way too thin and the couple staying on the other side were fighting and crying, etc late in the night. Then one of them was coughing / throwing and/or hacking up a lung for most of the morning. We heard everything so loud and clear that it was a bit difficult to try to relax and enjoy the setting. It was even causing our dog to get agitated and she's usually pretty quiet. This is probably a one off situation so I would still recommend this place; however, maybe consider their other cabins instead of a duplex. read more

This is a pretty nice little spot that's out of the way of the hustle you might find in the heart of Idyllwild. The cabins are quaint and well maintained and they even have small fireplaces with wood available on the premises. The prices are fair considering what else is available in the area. Be sure to ask if there are any detached cabins available or you may get a duplex with noisy neighbors and thin walls. Our only real complaint was the bed being way too hard for our taste. This establishment is awesome! They have cottages and cabins for really affordable prices. They were able to get me in pretty last minute, all through email, which was very convenient. The cabin that you check in at has firewood for sale and free board games for your stay. The owners/operators are really friendly. When you walk into your cabin, there is a folder that will tell you all about your cabin and the town of Idyllwild including a list of restaurants. We stayed at the "Point of Rocks" cabin which was down the road from the main check in area, and secluded being surrounded by trees. At $160 a night, we were stoked! (Total came out to $211 with cleaning fees) I chose this one because it had a secluded outdoor hot tub jacuzzi and it was awesome! The whole cabin was quaint, neat, and cozy. They provide you with bare basics. Looks like some people who have stayed in the past left a few things, which I think is "cabin rental courtesy" so I'm sure once people find out how awesome this place is, they'll have more things like spices, foil, zip lock bags, etc. Currently they just provide you with dishware, dish soap, towels, hand soap, and other cleaning supplies. Luckily if you're planning on staying long there are a couple general stores and an awesome organic health food store called Skyline that you should check out. Reasons I knocked off one star: -This cabin said it sleeps 4, but one of the beds is SUPER saggy. Luckily there was only two of us because I would not want to sleep in that saggy bed. In the other room, the bed was fine, so I'm guessing they're slowly upgrading/renovating the cabins. -The religious wall decor just rubbed me the wrong way. Things you should keep separate from business: religion and politics. Other than that, the place is great! There are some cabins that are very close to each other, and some that are more secluded. Their website did a good job of explaining each cabin/cottage. You can book online by emailing them also. They respond fast and are really accommodating. I will recommend all of my friends to rent from Woodland Park Manor during their Idyllwild stay to really get that woodsy feel to their trip. I will also definitely be back. read more

I have stayed at Woodland Park Manor about 5 or 6 times now, both in the cabins and several of the private homes. The first thing to be said about this business is the great customer service! Always polite and helpful, and they go out of their way to make every stay enjoyable and worry-free. They are extremely knowledgable of the area and seem happy to share any information when asked. The cabins are adorable and the private homes well equipped, most with a private hot tub. My favorite is Stonewood. I have fond memories of playing Scrabble with my family in the living room in front of the fireplace (you can pick up wood bundles at the office when you check in for a small fee). I can't wait for my next trip to Idyllwild and Woodland Park Manor and I would recommend it to everyone looking for a great getaway for a fair price. read more

She went online to travel advisor I believe and found this place to be top of the list! Called and spoke to Colin and we got a cottage for myself, wifey and two lil kids! If you are looking for a reasonably-priced, pet-friendly cabin rental in Idyllwild, we highly recommend the cabins at Woodland Park Manor. It's a 5 acre property with 5 "duplex" cabins (we had cabin 3A; the large side of one of the duplexes), and a single "cottage in the woods". Those who are looking for luxury, read no further. But if you are looking for comfort, cleanliness and beautiful views of trees, birds, squirrels & cottontail rabbits, read on! OUr cabin was like one really large room with a king bed, fireplace, tv, table & four chairs, and then a little divided area behind the fireplace with a full-size bed (not a separate room with a door, though). The kitchen reminds me of galley kitchens in New York City. :-) Four burner stove with oven (works great - we cooked two full dinners here), an apartment-sized fridge with freezer, sink, coffee maker, etc. We brought our own spices, ziploc bags, foil, olive oil, cooking spray and a few little tupperware containers. The only thing we wished we had brought that they didn't provide was a cutting board. We bought a plastic one at the nearby Fairway grocery store & left it for the next guests. Unlike some other reviewers, we found the A/C to be just fine (wall A/C) for the size of the cabin. We did bring a vornado tower fan with us from home to provide air circulation. The best part of the cabin is the large windows across the whole length of the cabin, with a nice-sized wood deck with table & chairs. You can sit inside with the curtains open or on the deck & the view of the trees & birds never gets old. They have tons of DVDs available to borrow in the office & cable tv. We also brought our Roku which plugged in to the tv easily. We thought the wifi was great - I even had some Zoom meetings for work one of the days. It looks like they recently (within the last few years) replaced the carpet in the cabin. The armchairs are "pleather" so none of the "grodiness" on the arms as another reviewer mentioned. The comforter & pillow shams look brand new, and the towels were nicer than at many hotels I've stayed in for business. The bathroom is decent-sized with a vanity area that makes up for just a pedestal sink. Shower with tub - old tiles, but very clean. Close to town (15 minute walk or 3-5 minute drive) and close to hiking trails. They also have a pool, which we didn't use, but other guests did (they said it felt heated), and a nice little park area in the center of the property with two full size propane grills for the use of guests. Such a fantastic find. We have a one year old baby and 11yo Labrador and this place was ideal for our needs. The cabin and the grounds are well maintained with enough space and trees between lodging to provide privacy. There's ample natural light shining through and the fireplace creates cozy evenings. A silly bonus for us is you can't hear the water or toilet flush in the bathroom from the main bedding area which meant our little one slept through the night. There's also the option of a heater for the chilly evenings. Definitely planning on coming back again. read more

My wife and I wanted to visit Idyllwild on a quick overnight trip, and I called this place last-minute and they had room for us... could that have been a sign? We got a room with a bathroom and a fireplace. It was exactly as described - homey, rustic, wooden beams, big windows, lots of nature. The clerk (owner?) was very polite. The heating system was very powerful (good for my wife, who gets chilly easily). However, the bed was awful. It sagged in the middle, so both of us rolled towards each other. We both have bad backs, so we were up all night in pain. The shower head is low, so unless you're abnormally short, you should plan on squatting to wash your hair. Also, the thermostat seemed to have no bearing on the actual temperature. Our night in the room was so awful that the next morning, instead of having a great day hiking, we were in so much pain that we just packed up the car and went home. Very VERY disappointing. We might go back to Idyllwild, but I don't think we'll go back to Woodland Park Manor. read more

This place is really neat. While it's a bit dated, it makes up for it in hospitality (friendly owners!!), uniqueness (funky cool vibe), and a laid back attitude (movies and firewood are on the honor system and dogs are welcome- oh and Matt at the front desk told me to pay when we left- no credit card imprint at check in- so appreciate this old style way of doing things). Cabins are vintage with floor to ceiling windows and lots of wood paneling, and fireplaces. There's a central hangout area with a barbecue, ping pong and sitting areas...and there's a pool!! A welcome treat in the summer. We've stayed in this town probably 10-12 times and this place is now officially our favorite. Our kids and dog loved it and so did my husband and I. Stayed here for Christmas and it was perfect! It even snowed! Everything is exactly what we expected, and the Cottage in the Woods was cozy for two. It kind of reminded me of a hobbit home, tucked away in the forest with a small porch and tiny backdoor. This cabin is further away from the main property, and if you don't have 4WD you won't be going anywhere if there's ice/snow. You get your own driveway and private yard area, but there are a few homes that share a service road so keep pets leashed. The cabin itself is small main room with a wood-burning stove, small kitchen and bathroom with shower stall only. I can't imagine anyone tall staying here and not having to tuck their head under the doors and in the shower. The kitchen has a table for two and all the cookware to make food, including cast iron skillet, huge bonus. There is a tv in the bedroom with basic cable, the wifi is pretty weak this far away, so if you have to be connected try a cabin closer to the main house. *For those comments about the bed sagging or being all springs, you might just be overweight, or just need to man up when you go to woods and not expect a featherbed. It's not the Four Seasons, of all the places i've stayed at in Idyllwild, this bed equally distributed two people's weight and caused no damage to anyone's back. Besides, if the bed, carpet color, or cabin decor is a deal breaker, maybe you should vacation somewhere else, or rethink what it is you are coming out here for. Idyllwild is for trad climbing, hiking, and being outside. The people that own and operate this place are really thoughtful, and we never really had to interact with anyone until checkout. They have a sweet dog that looks like a shepard wolf, and there are squirrels, rabbits, deer, and other critters everywhere. Firewood is attached to the main house, don't forget starters are in the office. When we checked into the cabin the owners left us a really nice christmas tree scented candle that smelled amazing. Loved everything about our stay here, and would highly recommend it to people that don't suck at life! read more

This is a great place to stay in Idyllwild. Secluded but also walking distance to everything in town. After a terrible experience with the jerks at the Quiet Creek Inn, someone recommends this place and it's great. Nice simple cabins with great views and idyllic Idyllwild charm. Had a great check in and out experience. The owner offered to let us stay as late as we wanted on Sunday because we arrived late on our first day. We didn't even ask, he just offers because he is nice and wanted to make sure we had a good time. If you are looking for a great cabin rental in Idyllwild, this is the first place to check. read more

Our family has stayed here six or seven times over the past several winters. We love it! The owners are wonderful, friendly, and accommodating. If you arrive in the winter, get ready to hunker down and enjoy that fireplace. Bundles of wood await you near the main house on an honor system. There are even sleds available for guests for snowy weather, and an outdoor pingpong table for clear warmer winter days. The cottages themselves are extremely clean, and we just love the mid-century retro feel with the wall of windows and peaked ceilings where we can watch the bright stars in the night sky. We initially stayed here because they were dog friendly, had a kitchen, were within walking distance of town, and reasonably priced. Our dog loves the massive windows that are his "TV" where he sits all day to watch the friendly squirrels, bunnies, and jays. (We do bring our own glass cleaner as a courtesy to remove all of his "nose art") Idyllwild is a town to relax. If your idea of vacation is to be in the mountains breathing in clean air while reading a book, or painting en plein air, this is your place. Woodland Park Manor accommodates the quiet spirit. The town is walkable and full of funky galleries, unique shops, antique stores, and semi-good restaurants. read more

Loved our short but sweet stay at this cabin (3A). Perfect for the price, was able to book for one night last minute. Perfect location in the center of town close to everything Idyllwild has to offer! Will definitely be coming back this summer. read more

I would definitely return! We stayed in the two person with the fireplace 5b. It appeared larger in the pics, but it was still all we needed for only $88. It was quiet with beautiful surroundings and big windows. We saw a deer and baby quail just outside the porch! The service was friendly and they let us borrow a parking pass. We were also offered late check out until 1pm. I would say it felt very clean, but the carpet was old. Again, you can't expect 5 star updates at an affordable cabin. This was a huge step up from the tent camping we considered. I can't speak for how warm the heat is in the winter or how well the fireplace works because it was mid July. Stayed here for the third time in as many years and as always, had a most relaxing and fantastic time. The third-generation owners take fantastic care of the place and are incredibly accommodating and friendly. The pool is excellent! Close to town, restaurants, shopping and bars. Lots of wildlife around camp -- rabbits, squirrels, moles, scrub jays, woodpeckers, ravens, deer. Can't wait to come back! read more

this place very nice and you can see full of nature in cheap price we stay like one night is 215$ for 2bedroom and have 3 queen bed and 2 bathroom and 1 very small kitchen and very peaceful for family and is not far from LA so much is like 2hr from my home is gold for vacation in short time and i like it so much read more
