A friend really loved this place, so I was full of expectation. M'eh. We both had the Salvadorian selections, as they are the specialty and less common. To summarize, the food was boring, dry, bland, and very stach-based. Most unexciting. On the TV show Chopped they keep saying "reinvent" the food. I started eating here with the minitaco (street tacos) specials. Delicious and the price is SO right. Although I usually only order water with any meal, I feel obligated to order a diet Coke to improve the restaurant's profit margin. Today I saw another customer enjoying her soup. She had ordered the tortilla chicken soup. Seven dollars for a small order and nine dollars for a large. So after ordering my tacos, I ordered a large bowl of the chicken tortilla soup to take home.The soup was also delicious. In the future, my orders will be minitacos, plus some chicken tortilla soup to take home. Since the soup is freshly made, it takes about 20 minutes for the soup to be ready. So order and eat your mini- tacos, and order the soup to take home. Or, you can converse for 20 minutes and then be served. With the soup, you should ask for the homemade corn tortillas, which you can break up and add to your soup. read more

Horrible service. I came in with a friend and we bother ordered wet burritos. My friend received his within 15 minutes and right as he finishes, 30 minutes later, my order comes out. The waiters did not seem to care. The food was decent , however, my food was warm, and not hot. The inside of the burrito was cold from the atrocious amount of sour cream. First time eating here. The service was super slow and there was about only a couple of people dining in. Our waiter was sitting down and chatting at another table. It took about 15 mins to get our order taken and our waiter was just going back and forth sitting at this table chatting away. A hidden gem in Cameron park! My family orders take out from Fernando's several times a month, so I got the opportunity to try it while visiting from out of town. Salsas are on point-if you like it hot, I highly recommend the habanero sauce. My favorite item for the combination plate is the taco with shredded beef. So delicious and they sure know how to do their beans right! Both the black and the refried beans are superb. This is my favorite restaurant! Their Salvadorean food is authentic. I have a group of Latino friends and we have made this restaurant the one we go to for our gatherings. This is the place where we go to celebrate birthdays and for comfort food when we are homesick for maduros (fried plantains) and for chicharon con yuca (pork rinds and yucca) and of course for pupusas and a sweet tamal that is out of this world. read more

Best salsa I've had, and you can get a lot of food for a good price. Hint: get a three item combo plate, and you'll have at least two meals. I LOVE FERNANDOS!!! feels like we're hanging out at family's place for lunch or dinner. The family is great and give great service. I enjoy many things on the menu plus the chips and salsa. My personal favorites are the fajita salad, mixed papusas, flautas, platanos, and in my opinion the BEST tortilla soup! My husband loves even just their basic bean and cheese burritos, side salads, and papusas. If you order off the a la cart menu you also get a side salad, which is great. A lot of people have mentioned the burritos which are good but with all there other options I rarely pick it. It is El Salvadorean food mostly so that's what I would prefer from there menu. We're somewhat regulars and would recommend it to anyone. read more

Took my mother (who's from El Salvador) and had killer pupupas, the platanos con frijoles/crema were super good. Service was little slow, servers also double as busboys (hope that is PC) cleaning up tables. It got crowded when we left and could tell they have a lot of loyal customers. Will definitely return for more pupusas. Finally found restaurant that has them and close to home. Live in Folsom!! This is a little neighborhood restaurant with standard Mexican fare plus Salvadorian. The service is excellent and everyone in our group seemed happy with their food except perhaps for me. I ordered Salvadorian tripe soup. Good menudo is fantastic. I love it. Not-so-good menudo tastes like the smell of what comes out the back end of a cow, and this was not-so-good menudo. Even if the tripe had been properly cleaned and washed, the soup was much too salty. The salad was good and I think you'd be OK here otherwise. read more

I just moved to CP and was excited to find a Mexican restaurant that also made Salvadorean food. I was praying that their pupusas were great, that was my deal breaker for coming back since I'm not really fond of Mexican food. I'm always on the hunt for good pupusas especially since they're almost non existent in Sacramento but they're so easy to find in San Francisco. I'm sure my husband was happy to see they served chicharones but they serve it with guacamole, we're Filipino so we eat it with spicy vinegar. We will probably try it next time because it's freshly cooked. They also have lengua which is something he also likes. This place has a great selection of Mexican food to choose from. The decor of the place was really nice. There were paintings on all the walls, cute little painted pots, and sculptures around the seating walls. The service was wonderful and the wait wasn't too long to get the food. Their chips and salsa was delicious and the guacamole had a lot of lemon juice on it which made it taste so much better. My husband really liked his food and I on the other hand was completely disappointed with their pupusas. To be honest I thought I couldn't have had worse pupusas than this one place in Brisbane but these were the worst. I took one bite of my chicken and cheese pupusa. WTF did they forget my chicken? Nope ... the waitress said they shred the chicken in with the cheese. I don't know about that ... it was more like they ran the chicken and cheese through a blender until it liquified. The entire time I was eating it all I could taste was the bread. I doused it in pickled cabbage and hot sauce so I could get some kind of flavor in it.
