We went to Fernandos after Sunday after church. I took my 5 year old mac n cheese made with goats milk since he has food allergies. The manager told the waitress we couldnt eat that at there restaurant. I asked the waitress if she could call him over so we could explain about his allergies. The manager did not want to come over. We had to get up and leave. He missed out on selling 5 adult plates because a 5 year old has food allergies. I tried calling the restaurant to speak to someone other than that manager & they keep telling me the owners are usually there but not at this time. I don't know if the owners just dont want the hassle or what but I've been going there over a decade & never have they treated us this way. This is the 1st time ive seen this manager. Upon arrival, the hostess took me to a table but the table wasn't ready. She immediately called upon someone who came within the minute to clean everything up. I then sat down and the menus were brought to me before my wife sat down. Fast service for a 3/4th packed restaurant. Our drink were brought out fast. I ordered chorizo, potato, and egg breakfast with refried beans and a side of potatoes. My wife just had a potato and egg taco. My plate is on the menu but you can ask for things that are not part of the plate and make your own, like my side of extra potatoes. The food was excellent. The service was great. read more

Unfortunately, arrived at 2:10 and as per sign that were closing at 3 , so I know I was cutting it close. At the door I was told that the Resturant closes at 2:30 and she would have to ask if we came in. After 5 minutes we were told that the kitchen had already had been cleaned and were told that we would not be served. Totally understand that I was cutting it close, but it wasn't 2:30 yet. Service: I do have to say it was a little weird how our server kept calling my mother "mamasita" and my little brother "papasito". Aside from this little issue she was very attentive by constantly checking if we needed anything. I was surprise since they had a full house and still provided much better service than other places. Food: I had the "Huevos divorciados" which were great! It was a lot of food and very tasty. The sauces weren't to hot but just gave it enough of that spicy taste to make your meal that much better. The only complain I would have is with the beans since they did not have a homemade taste but instead had more of "canned beans" taste. Lastly, the cheesy "migas" were a great complement to the meal. If the waitress gets the order wrong and you ask for the correct item, they will charge for two meals, don't try speaking to the manager, just as bad and zero respect for patrons. First time here. Food was good, not great. Menu says breakfast all day but you have to pay $1.00 extra for it. Also I wanted some pancakes and they don't serve them after 11:00am. WHAT? If you're going to serve breakfast all day it should be the same price and every item needs to be available. I ordered the Pepe's Combo plate, which consists of fajita and chicken. Excellent customer service! We were here twice for breakfast. Maybe lunch is better, but my breakfast would have been better served wrapped in foil paper from Stripes. First day: I had migas with chorizo and I added "yellow" cheese. Chorizo was lacking and I couldn't taste it. Beans were thin but flavored like abuela used to make them (lard?). My hubby had a plate with three eggs, ham, bacon, and sliced potatoes. He loved it. Second day: I had barbacoa with eggs, and beans. Barbacoa was dry overly reheated, further drying parts of it and making it taste like beef jerky ($9.25 for the plate). I've had better from Stripes. Sad face. My hubby had huevos rancheros. Again, he loved it. Pros: coffee was hot and flowing, my hubby's tea was cold and never empty, but was flavorless and not sweet enough. Tomorrow, we try a different breakfast place. read more

My wife had been a super fan of this restaurant and I wanted to treat her to breakfast today. Food was OK, service really lousy but the WORST thing was that I order a barbacoa taco, which was not cheap at $3.95 to get started, but the CRAZIEST THING was that I needed to wait for 10 minutes (period during which the barbacoa and the tortilla came cold... but didn't complaint about it other than to ask for a warm tortilla) to get some onion and cilantro, to use as toppings for the taco. When the tab came, I discover I was being charged $1.70 (yes $1.70 EXTRA) for onion and cilantro, bringing the price of the single barbacoa taco to $5.65... for a SINGLE TACO!! When asked about it the waitress told us that it was EXTRA to ask for onion and cilantro. We asked to speak to the manager, Fatima, which said she COULDN'T DO ANYTHING for us because it was an "ADD-ON" to the taco. We said that we have eaten tacos in a lot of other places and never charged for onion and cilantro and she said that effectively other places don't charge for it and even give you a lot of onions and cilantro. She said that she couldn't "gift" us the onion and cilantro... Really rude and lack of common sense. I feel sad for the owner, which I was told is Jose Bocanegra, because it seems to me that he is NOT WELL SERVED by his management. I have never experienced something like that, it was surreal. If I could give it only half-star I would. The service (or lack of service and emphatic) overshadow the food (which was not bad). read more

We visit Fernando's almost every Sunday and it is always packed. The breakfast is delicious and extremely affordable but not very quick. We have waited up to an hour to receive our breakfast but of course it is Sunday and this place is right down the street from the Basilica. So a few words to the wise, get there early, order Huevos Divorciados (unless you don't like spicy, get Special #5 in that case), and stay away from the milk they put on the table for the coffee (it's been spoiled on more than one occasion). read more

No appreciation to loyal customers!! I go to Fernando's every weekend and every time I order the same plate, "huevos divorciados" over medium. Today, I got my plate and yes, the yolk was over medium but the white was over cooked to the point the edges were brown. I returned the plate and I was told that it was cooked the way I asked and that they could make another plate but it would be considered a new order and I'd had to wait (I had waited longer than usual already) so I went and told the manager and basically she just told me the exact same thing the waitress did, I told her that she knows I go every week and asked her how many times have I returned the plate, that it wasn't right for me to wait when they messed up in the first place, I ended up telling them to take it off the ticket so not only I left upset but hungry. I understand that I'm not the only customer there but if I am regular customer, I'd expect some kind of appreciation. I've gotten it from other places. Another thing that I've been wanting to bring up from a while but I hadn't since I didn't want to bring up any negative reviews until now when they showed me no appreciation is that after 10AM they charge $1.00 extra per plate, I'd understand being charged after 11AM but 10!? I think 10AM is till considered breakfast time. I On a good note, when cooked right, the food is delicious and the service that I get most of the times is outstanding. Mirna is the best waitress, even when she is not serving us she checks up on us! She's my favorite and we like to sit with her every time! My wife and I just went by this morning at about 7am. I ordered an overeasy egg and a scrambled egg with bacon, hash browns & toast. The waitress smiled sarcastically and stated "Oh no, we don't do that, both eggs have to be the same or you have to order one the same way on an order and the different one on another order." My wife then told her that they did it for us the last time. The waitress responded "Well, they're not supposed too." I then told the waitress that I wasn't pleased with her response as a customer and that I didn't want to order anything after all, she just shrugged me off.
