The owner noticed my boots needed some TLC so i purchased the Birkenstocks and went home to grab another pair of boots. A few weeks later I received my boots via mail (I live in California). They looked like new! The soles were repaired, the heels looked like new and they looked polished as well! I was very satisfied with the purchase. As well as with my new Birkenstocks. I have a pair of sandals with a kitten heel. The right heel needed the rubber replaced so I went to Sole Solution Shoe Repair & Birkenstock to see how much it would cost. Instead of giving me a price, the person working at the counter asked where the left sandal was. The left sandal still had the rubber heel on, so I didn't initially take it out of my bag but did so when he asked about it. I showed it to him, and he proceeded to take the sandal and tug at the rubber heel. I told him not to do that, but he ignored me and proceeded to rip off the rubber heel on the left sandal. This was quite upsetting and shocking that he would deliberately damage the heel. After repeatedly questioning him why he purposely broke the heel of the left shoe, he claimed that it was old and was going to break off anyway. That may or may not happen, but it's not for him to decide by deliberately ripping off the rubber that was still attached to the heel. Especially since I did not agree to any repairs since he didn't provide a price. Was that his way of drumming up business for repairing both sandals? I told him he needed to fix the left sandal heel which he broke. He kept saying that the rubber heel was going to break anyway and if he tried to nail it back, the rubber would fall apart. Based on his combative attitude and unprofessionalism, I was certain that he would make sure the rubber would break apart if he touched it any further. I asked him his name but he refused to give it, whereupon I left the store. Never have I experienced a repair shop of any kind where my item upon leaving is worse than upon entering, due to the fault of the repair person. No accountability for his action. Went to him many years ago at a different location in West Long Branch and thought he was rude and condescending. Just returned to his present location in Little Silver thinking that maybe he had changed his personality- Boy was I wrong! He was rude and nasty. I thought to have my Birkenstocks refurbished since I have had them for 11 years and just love them! He looked at them and said they are the wrong size for my feet without even looking how they fit on me!!! He walked away from me leaving me stunned that a small business-owner would treat a customer so poorly! BEWARE! Please go anywhere else!!! The owner is extremely rude and condescending and went as far as calling me childish for wanting a refund on shoes that I had bought 6 days before unused. He will point to his piece of paper ineligible handwritten policy that you can only get a refund within 5 days. He is rude and extremely unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Not only was my shoe repair exhorbitantly overpriced, but took over a month and a half to do. When I didn't pick up my shoes in what the owner considered a reasonable time, he begin sending me EXTREMELY unprofessional, inappropriate and insulting texts late in the evening. I'm talking 7:30/8:30 at night. Evidently it's ok for him to take over a month to fix my shoes, but not ok if I don't pick them up IMMEDIATELY when they are ready. I was so uncomfortable and creeped out to go and pick my shoes up that I took my brother with me. Horrible experience and i would never recommend him to anyone. Lifelong local who has purchased 5 pairs of Birkenstocks here over the years. I've highly recommended in the past but never again. Oct '21 stop in with a pair of higher end men's Birks sandals for repair. Joe greets me unmasked & proudly states he's unvaccinated. I'm masked & vaxxed & disappointedly figure let me just drop these off & get out of here. Joe examines the sandals & tells me it will be $80 to completely rebuild them. He says they'll be better than new. I know new ones will be $110-140 for that model & decide great go ahead. Return today to pick them up he's unmasked & can't find ticket. I identify them on the rack, he says that'll be $110 cash or check only. I remind him his $80 quote & he gives me some pretty poor & actually illogical excuses but I explain I will return in 10mins with cash. I return in 15 to him chatting with an elderly friend both unmasked. I say excuse me after waiting more than 5mins while they discuss "going to the club" & place the $110 on the counter & ask for the sandals. He now says it's $115!!! It took over three weeks for my sandal to be repaired. All it needed was to have a broken toe loop reattached. The owner was on the phone when I arrived and took the shoe and entered my phone number in his computer without ending his phone call. He said he'd call me when it was ready. I called him three times after waiting two weeks for a call back. He never returned my call or texted me as to when I could pick up my shoe. His store opens at 10 am, according to his sign; I was in the area and stopped by around 11 am one morning, and he had a sign up that he would be back in an hour. I tried one more time a week later and finally got him on the phone. He said to pick up the shoe anytime that week, but when I told him I needed a specific day and time, he said he wasn't sure if he would be in then. I told him that I didn't live nearby and pressed him for an appointment, and finally got a set date. I picked up my shoe and had to pay $20 for this very minor repair. read more

Joe's work is mediocre at best. The terrible thing about his business is he will take weeks, or months to repair your items. Unless you stay on top of him do not expect a quick return and by quick I mean 2 weeks. His business hours are not reliable. His prices are outrageous!! He will tell you one thing when you drop them off and charge you something completely different when you pick up and give a long story about how hard it was to repair. Joe, the owner is my shoe hero! After spending several quarantine-at-home-in-Arizona hours searching the internet for a specific (unicorn?) Birkenstock sandal I couldn't believe I actually found them at a store in New Jersey. A phone call to the store confirmed that my exact shoes were in stock and that Joe would be happy to send them to me. We spoke on the phone a couple of times after that and Joe even called after he received delivery confirmation - just to make sure I was happy with my purchase! Store owner is dishonest and rude. Literally ignored me when I walked up to the counter. Looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if my repair could be done sooner rather than later. Also after telling me the repair was $25.00 and I gave him $30.00, he failed to give me my $5.00 change. Also, almost every time I tried to go to pick up my repair, there was a sign in the window saying "be back in an hour" or "be back at 2:30". I'm talking literally every time I went to the store. This is the worse customer service ever! I dropped off my sandals for repair. He quoted me $40 - he said they'll be ready next week. I went out of town the following week. He called and said they're ready. I told him I would pick them up the following week. He called again and said they're ready. I told him I would pick them up tomorrow. Today is tomorrow. He calls and says what time would you get them? I said today sometime. I got a biz call and put him on hold. His call dropped and I get this text message: "You put me on hold and I'm waiting like and idiot, I have zero tolerance for this kind of thing. So you need to come today and pay your $50,00 bill before 5 PM or tomorrow the police will be involved" !!!! This guy is scary and I would not recommend his services to anyone. Be careful with his threats of sending the police to you if you don't pick up your shoes when he wants you to. My shoes were in his shop barely a week and half!!!!! What a rip off. Nice selection of birks, but a total scam. I went in for some a shine on a pair of boots. The owner insisted that minor wear on the heal be repaired and committed to doing and quick fix and the shine by the 2pm the next day. When I arrived at 2:15 to pick up, he had finished the lite repair but took an additional 45 minutes for the shine! Then he charged me $38 -almost double his estimate from the day before! I dropped off three pairs of shoes to be repaired and paid a $40 deposit. After taking two weeks to repair the shoes, I began to receive phone calls urging me to pick them up personally and immediately. I'm busy, I work, their hours are barely open at all, and it has been inclement weather. Sometimes I leave my dry cleaning for months at a time and I don't know what the big deal is about picking my shoes up so quickly. (They expected within days- it has now been just two weeks) After a threatening and abusive phone call, I decided not to answer their calls anymore and pick up the shoes on my schedule and at my convenience. However, my elderly mother accidentally answered my phone and quite literally got YELLED at and cursed at. I then received a text message threatening me with the police if I didn't pick up my shoes immediately. So I sent my husband to pick them up (because at this point I am scared and intimidated by their 15-plus phone calls) and they were CLOSED! I'm still getting nasty texts from the store and am considering reporting this shop to the department of consumer affairs. FEAR should not have any place in retail or any business for that matter. RIPOFF. What a nightmare customer service experience. I dropped off a pair of cowboy boots and a pocketbook which needed 3 tiny screws in January. I called a week later to see if the boots had been polished. The owner said did I call you? Rude. I said I needed the boots for Nashville. He told me to come in two hours. I came in 2 1/2 hours in a snowstorm and he said they were not ready and looked like I had two heads. I waited and he polished them. It is now THREE months later and he calls that my bag is ready. I had stopped in twice before to pick it up unrepaired and he said oh I can fix it. Sure, for $30 CASH, more than the cost of the bag. He is unpleasant. I spoke with him on the phone, said I would be right over and he had another of his infamous signs on the door, be back in 10. He said he is so busy.
