The small engine repair is located behind the garden store. A little muddy path will lead you to it. Mike was friendly and shared some jokes while I was there. They did lose the ticket on my snow blower so, I never received a phone call for when the tuneup was done... 3 weeks later. Really great, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced service. These guys really know what they're doing. I've had them work on a generator and most recently on my 20 year old Toro snow blower. Finally stopped working after providing 20 years of maintenance-free service. Ferraro not only fixed it, but cleaned and reconditioned it, repainted some rusty parts, did an overall fantastic job for less than I expected (and WAY less than a new snow blower.) Sorry not a good review. I brought my Torro snow blower in for repair because the electric starter would not work. The snow blower started with the pull starter and still cleared snow. After two weeks (no problem here as that was what they said it would be) they contacted me and told me that the quote would be in two parts because it was so high. Not make the store too long, I decided that it was not worth repairing and told them I would pick it up. I was told there would eb a $20 quote fee which I agreed was okay. When I returned a few weeks later to pick it up the snow blower was in pieces and they couldn't find all the pieces. When I said I wanted to get it back together I was told taht they didn't think I was picking it up. I said that I was and wanted my snow blower back. They started locatig the pieces and just gave them to me. I asked if they could be put back on and was told that this was a breakdown and assembly and an additional charge. Sorry guys but I agreed to pay the charge to get the quote and expected my snow blower back and together. They finally put it back together all the while the guy kept telling me what needed to be fixed. When I walked out I pulled the cord and it started. When I got home i cleared the snow. Okay no electric start but it still worked. After this experience I don't think I would trust them to actually fis something. You would not know if they put all the parts back together. read more

I was a walk-in customer today, carrying in an antique single cylinder motor that I wanted to get tuned up. The thing weighs over 30 lbs., so having to walk around the back of the building was an effort. I walk into the shop (which smells very strongly like gasoline and solvents), and the owner is on the phone. The phone cord is blocking entry to the shop, so I politely hold the heavy motor for a while as he is talking. He pointedly ignores me, and the motor starts to get heavy, so I duck the phone cord, and place the motor on a work bench. When he gets off of the phone, he comes over and gruffly asks me what I want. I start to tell him that the motor has good spark, and I cleaned the head and bore, and all I want is an oil change and carb tune up. He rudely cuts me off, and says he won't work on it. He isn't interested in helping me out. And I should have called before I came over. Really? A small engine shop that doesn't work on small engines? I was surprised by the uncooperative tone. I told him as I walked out that I thought he would be more accommodating. Ferraro, you have lost a potential customer for life with the poor attitude and unfriendly service. read more

I recently moved to the area and needed work done on my lawn mower. I took it to a different place in Northbrook to have it repaired. After two weeks I was told it would be less expensive in the long run to by a new one. It is a ten year old machine and was expensive new and I wasn't in the position to even buy there least priced one. After being called "Dude" a dozen times I took the lawn unrepaired with me. In there parking lot I Goggled lawn mower repairs and came up with Ferraros'. About a mile away off of Skokie Blvd. Mike and his son Antony greeted me and looked at the machine, quickly assessed what was needed. Told me it would be about two weeks, Yes it was early spring I understood. I jokingly said that I needed it yesterday! They called me four days later and I have been using it since. I am so happy I found this place. Another guy out back working, Javier was very friendly also. Mikes' brother Ken has a garden center in front. Same friendly atmosphere there too!!!
