My guest and I we're in the area amidst this gorgeous weather and decided on something light and delicious if it all possible. Luckily for us, we stumbled upon Fete Bistro by Slay and thanks to server Keaton we were in luck. She went ahead and recommended what we both agreed so far was the 2nd best Caesar salad in LA so far this year. And given the sheer number of locations that both he and I have frequented, that's saying something. We came for DineLA and had a great experience. Price was reasonable and the menu options were good. We had French onion soup, steak frites, panko crusted sole, chocolate cake, and lemon olive oil cake. Everything tasted great, and I especially loved the fish. Drinks were good too. Went to Fete Bistro for a birthday dinner celebration. Seated at a table next to the window. Ambiance- pleasant, although the music was very loud and I couldn't hear my dinner conversation. Appetizers - dip trio with pita And the baguette. Good but expensive. Steak sandwich- I asked for steak to be prepared medium and the steak was presented overcooked, then there was melted havarti cheese on top of the steak! My family enjoyed the steak frites and their steaks were prepared perfectly. The best was the fries. Steak brochette - the birthday boy enjoyed it, can't complain. This is my first time trying a restaurant by Slay and it was OK. Kiwi margarita: was meh. House bread and butter: not complementary. for eight dollars I'm expecting amazing spot on baguette. The butter was very good, but I've had better bread that was free. Frisée salad; the dressing was very good but the salad was overdressed which wilted the greens Branzino: the best dish that we ordered. The sauce and the sautéed fennel were so good. Slay steak sandwich: I really enjoyed this dish because of the sauce. The sauce was like a reduced French onion soup packed with flavor.. My husband and I recently went to Fete and were blown away. We've been to all of the Slay restaurants and this is by far our favorite. Our server was attentive and the food was really good. We started with the fresh baked bread and French onion soup - both very good. The bread was hot, crispy but soft on the inside. For our mains we had the branzino and lamb shank. The branzino was one of the best I've had in the South Bay. The sauce and spinach that came with it - chefs kiss. We had the crème brûlée for dessert which was good but not super special. Over all ambiance is really fun and I can't wait to go back when the weather is warmer and windows are open. The bar looks really fun to sit at too. We'll definitely be back! read more

The atmosphere is predictably noisy and a bit frenetic. The service was very good. Cocktails were very good. The appetizers (baguette, fried green tomatoes) and main courses were delicious. Husband said the onion soup was one of the best ever. The branzino was really excellent and the steak frites was very good. The jidori chicken was good, not great. The real disappointment was the desserts. Only 3 choices, of which we had 2. One was really terrible. Not just so so, but truly bad (plum peach upside down cake). Sooooo dense, little favor except the way over-cinnamoned sauce. Had I not been someone's guest I would have sent it back. The other was a chocolate lava cake. It's a boring choice but at least it can be delicious. This one was mediocre at best. Virtually no "lava" and uninspired flavor. Again, it would have been sent back if we weren't guests. If you're not a dessert person then this is a nice place for delicious food, but for this kind of restaurant (upscale, French influence) the sweets should be excellent to merit a great rating. read more

We had passed by Fête a few weeks earlier, and were intrigued by their menu creative bistro offerings, and inviting interior. I made a reservation for Saturday, and we had a wonderful experience at Fête. Starting with their excellent, polite and staff. We were recovering from a recent death of my wife's Mom, as well as medical and surgical issues. I couldn't find an appropriate category like "special occasion" or celebration, so I wrote a comment of how we were looking forward to dining there. To our pleasant surprise, the hostess Abby, warmly greeted us and gave their appreciation for the note. We were given a choice of nice tables, and we opted for a quieter one which was cozy. Our server Ken, was a gem ~ welcoming, making great recommendations for drinks and dining options. Matt was very nice also. We started with two terrific Knob Creek rye Manhattans which were perfect. Appetizers included the best Dolmades we've had in a long time with a delicious lamb and rice filling and nice fresh grape leaves not overcooked, but a perfect texture. Deviled eggs had delicious ham. Prior to ordering our main courses, Marilyn the manager came by to check in on us, and made a fabulous recommendation to accompany the Faroe Island salmon, and I ordered the Orange duck confit with delicious tiny thumbellina carrots. We had nice conversations with Ken and Marilyn, and watched as Abby meticulously set up other tables. For dessert, Marilyn treated us to a scrumptious strawberry and rhubarb tart with vanilla bean ice cream. You could really taste the terrific rhubarb. This was a perfect, relaxing evening which we really needed for ourselves. We cannot wait to return to Fête for another terrific dining experience! Tonight's meal was a French inspired restaurant located in manhattan beach. Tucked to the side of the restaurant is a black curtain is a "speak easy" which I have experienced with some friends a month prior to tonight's meal, fun hang out, good drinks, interesting crowd. The dinner - nice. The desserts & cocktails - fantastic. Service - good. Environment/ decor - pleasant The music - loud and on the verge of obnoxious. (Before you make judgment, I'm in my 40's and really enjoy a good music level that fits the environment, but also wanted to have a pleasant dinner conversation and not just sit there and eat. I understand there is a fine line in what is the right volume, my advice. Read the room...) Our party was literally the only people in the dining room and we politely asked to turn down the music just a little bit so that we could have a conversation around the table. They were really nice and lowered the volume, which made the meal very pleasant. Unfortunately someone kept turn it up which just ruined the experience, after having to ask again we just gave up and finished our meal and left. Sad. The French inspired dishes were well made, cooked and plated very well... everything tasted fine. Less impressed with the deviled eggs, bread was d'lish, pate was good (from what I was told, I did not indulge) scallops were very nice (that's what I had) the server kept pushing for us to add an additional scallop, two of us who ordered the dish politely declined but there was definitely a harder push for us to say yes... again- no thank you. The other two patrons enjoyed the duck, they said it was cooked very well and was tasty. Last patron had the croquet madame and said it was fine. By far my favorite course was the desserts and if that is all I ate that night would have been the best part of the experience. There were three option's, a crème brûlée, apple and blueberry tart and the last dish I won't even embarrass myself and try to type it out, was d'lish!!! We ordered one of each! Yes, do it! All in all a nice evening among family and friends, probably not an establishment I would make a return visit but happy to have tried this restaurant at least once. I have experienced other Slay Properties and have alway been delighted by the service and meals. I would definitely frequent them over tonights choice. Are you looking to try something new? TRY THIS RESTAURANT!!!! This is my favorite of all the SLAY restaurants in Manhattan Beach/Hermosa. The menu is French, but innovative and incorporates Mediterranean style flavors, which really complement one another. The chevre cheese was amazing (just asked for more crostini the minute they put it down).. The duck à l'orange is also incredible. Tonight I had the special which was a "Blue Nose" (whatever that is) fish- and it was so tasty that I didn't even ask for extra sauce-which is usually my go-to. I really love that the mashed potatoes were wrapped in thinly sliced pieces of squash. Very complementary, especially since I don't like potatoes. The crème brûlée was a great finish. Dined at Fete recently. We started with the French onion soup & hummus. The French onion & hummus was delicious. I recommend ordering the hummus with cauliflower and onions (for an added cost). The pita to eat the hummus with is another additional cost, which was interesting. The pita was good however I think it should already come with the hummus. I had the duck- the serving size isn't huge. But the flavors were great. My fiancé got the salmon, and I'm usually not a fan of salmon to begin with and I thought it was good! We came with a family of 4, we had a 5.5 months old baby and for some reason they decided to put us outside while they had a table inside. Waiter hasn't came to us at any point we always waited for him and called him, while just keep in mind stay outside of the place. I had to change the diaper, and in both bathrooms they didn't have a changing tables, so family dining is out. A French restaurant with no sauce. The food took forever. The crab claws were frozen/thawed and watery with no flavor....expensive as well. The ruby red trout with no sauce had a little paprika sprinkled on it to make you believe the chef cared. The chef doesn't care. The food is uninspired. The acoustics were crazy. Sea Bream: Not bad Shrimp Kabob: Mediocre Lamb: Don't believe the hype... Salmon: OK Appetizers: Much much better than entrees - served cold - so no wait. The kitchen seemed understaffed... food took forever and the chef (or who I think was the chef) spent a lot of time walking around the restaurant... as opposed to in the kitchen. Prices: Premium Service: Good - aside from the kitchen Ambiance: LOUD... the entire wall to the outside is open and yet everyone is screaming to be heard over the din and music... no sound insulation.
