If you've been to enough of these classes over the years like I have, you know they can sometimes turn into a dry lecture or a massive instructor ego trip. Or both. Not here. The guys running the show--Ron, Juan, and the rest of the crew--are active and retired law enforcement, veterans, and first responders. They aren't just reading slides out of a manual; they're sharing actual, street-level experience. There's no fluff and absolutely zero attitude, just straight-shooting, practical advice from people who have actually been there. Every single instructor, and there are a lot of them, are approachable, engaging, and legitimately want to help you become a safer and more knowledgeable CCW card holder. The day starts with a safety brief and then some shooting drills, followed by the live-fire qualification, all of it up at Burro Canyon (give yourself extra time to get there, this place is in the middle of the boondocks). Safety was locked down tight, but the environment was relaxed enough that everyone could focus and get some solid training in. The instructors readily admit that the actual shooting qualification score is a no-brainer, so they weave in more things like drawing from the holster and dropping magazines. The instructors are constantly on the move, adjusting your grip, giving you tips to be a safer and more accurate shooter. Very, very cool. Following the shooting qualifications and a lunch break, they handled the legal updates and use-of-force stuff clearly and kept the class moving. One of the best parts is that they actually weave trauma medical training ('Stop the Bleed') right into the course. Knowing how to save a life is just as important as knowing how to handle a firearm, and most other CCW classes completely skip that side of the coin. I will confess that as a new hunter, I carry a tourniquet, but I didn't consider some of the nuances the instructors brought up, like rapid access from the pack, putting it on one-handed, high and tight, etc. And we actually practiced using it! If you need your initial permit or you're just looking for a renewal class that won't waste your time, don't look anywhere else. Professional, down-to-earth, and genuinely good people. Five stars all day long.

I did some research myself and have gone to ranges so I had an idea of what I wanted and what I needed to do. When I arrived, the store is in a small lot and looks a bit hidden and old. Only one room I think had AC but that was where I took my test and spent my whole time in. It's not very assuming or a luxurious place, but it has a charm and very honest feel to it. The staff there were friendly, patient, and helpful (The 2 ladies that helped me were, Tami and I didn't get the name of the other lady, but she felt like the owner). They were both very knowledgeable, honest, and transparent with their answers and recommendations, and I didn't feel pressured for anything. I was given a few firearms to try that I talked to them about and a few that they recommended. They also said anything that they did not have in store, they could order for me and did their best to accommodate or find something similar for me to feel out. They had a wide assortment of firearms, at least in my eyes, and what they kept stocked made sense. I didn't look through the whole store and everything they had, but I will tomorrow. From what I browsed and saw while I walked in and around, they have many standard picks and accessories that make sense to get in person, and a few interesting pieces. Larger items or more common items, like safes, they were very transparent and said they did not stock and that it's better to find one online, which made sense business wise. I like that they understood what is feasible for them to stock and what not to; both for their interest of keeping their inventory moving, but also to not peddle something that the customer wouldn't want or be satisfied with. I was shown everything in great detail and kindly. I made my purchase and was given instruction on what to do, what to expect, and a time frame for when I can pick things up. For my FSC, I got clear instruction, some helpful preface, and then the paperwork was straightforward and simple. I was guided for it to be as smooth as possible. I got my card and everything done and the prices were as expected and fair. I will update my review if anything changes, but considering the positive experience and friendliness of the staff, I don't think I will have anything to update. I don't know enough about prices for different models and ammo to split hairs on that, and this is a local small business, so it doesn't make sense coming here with the expectation of below market prices. The price range on the models I looked at seemed to be around the ballpark range of what I saw online for MSRP. I'm sure you could look around and get quotes to find things cheaper, but considering this is a local business and near me, I'm not coming here to try to haggle for the lowest price. I care more for the experience and personal interaction. With that said though, I also don't like small businesses that don't keep prices competitive with the rest of the market. I think this business does a fair job with it. As I mentioned before, the items I looked at, I did some research on, and the prices were in the ballpark of what I saw online which is a great indication. For what I purchased, it came as a set and luckily for me, was also on sale, so I feel my purchase was actually on the better price range.

That was awesome, because it got me on the range sooner. I also brought with me a new firearm - Canik Mete MC9LS with a new optic. I forgot my regular range bag with my tools; however, the range staff allowed me to use one of their tools to adjust my new optic. I don't know how the targets move on the regular range, but on the tactical range, you can push buttons to automatically set the targets at a specified distance, move the targets manually back and forth, and automatically have the target return. Best of all, the prices were very reasonable. $20 per lane and $0.50 targets - WAAAAAY better than prices in the Bay Area. If I were a resident of the area, I'd definitely become a member. John, our instructor, was very engaging and great at commanding attention when needed and building up the class's confidence. Afterward, I took them up on their 'newbie' offer of free range time and rental after class. Kevin signed me up for a lane, let me rent a couple of handgun models I researched previously, and critiqued my targets, giving some general feedback and advice. He also pointed me toward a couple other models that are known to be more friendly to left-handed shooters that I can test out in the future. Great place; a little on the older and smaller sides, but staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. I get the feeling that as I 'shop around' for my go-to range there's a strong chance I will gravitate back here, since these guys are passionate about what they do, and seem to want to inspire that passion in others. Stopped by to purchase my first gun back in March, I believe it was Saad who assisted me and my girlfriend that day. I had no real idea of what I wanted to get and the one gun I wanted wasn't available. He was very informative and liked to joke around a lot which made things more comfortable for my girlfriend who had let him know she didn't like guns. I didn't buy a gun that night but the customer service was superb, it was closer to 8pm when we left and the shop was supposed to close at 7 but he never tried to rush us. I came back a few days later and purchased the gun he suggested. I have been happy with my purchase and have returned to purchase another gun recently. I believe Taline is the girl who assisted me on my second purchase, she was really helpful too, she spent time explaining what gun would suit what I wanted and though I eventually decided on purchasing something completely different she did not make me feel like I wasted her time. Overall, the customer service has been great. There are long wait times because of the current situation, people need to consider this before spewing negative comments about the service. After weeks of trying to find a handgun during the pandemic, I discovered this great shop right in my back yard. The whole staff was very friendly and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I truly can't say enough about how great they were to me. The girl that helped me out (forgot her name sorry) was even so kind to do me the favor of selling me a firearm that had just come in a few minutes before it was my turn in the shop, that wasn't even logged in their system yet. Andre really made me feel like I knew him for years in the way he chatted with me and even gave me discount passes for a great shooting range. Great shop staffed by great people. I just purchased a Walther P22. When into the shop several times before I purchased the gun and Kale who was there each time was super friendly and helpful. I have numerous handguns and rifles and I've been to shops where those working there were extremely arrogant. Times are rough and I got desperate, so I decided to give them another shot. To my surprise, I was actually let in this time! All it took was 2.5 hours of waiting! They definitely favored several people who just arrived and let them in first. I saw it while waiting outside and saw it while I was inside. Horrible business ethics. Don't waste your time guys, even if you cant find anything else where. Times will get better and the supply will come back. I came in to their store one day with the intention of just window shopping, but at the end of my visit I ended up purchasing! Situated at the crossroads of East Los Angeles and Montebello, UGS is planted in an unassuming position along the main road. Their front door is locked during business hours; you would press a button to get their attention, and they would open from the inside. Once inside, the gun wall was a sight to behold; they have an impressive selection of firearms for various needs. The owner and employees were extremely courteous and professional. I came in as a generally new gun owner. I asked for their expertise and recommendations based on my needs, and they catered and handpicked several firearms for me to examine. At the end of one visit I made my first purchase with them, and within only a few months I ended up going back to make another purchase! They are transparent about their pricing. If you have the correct documents, the purchase process is seamless and streamlined. I am extremely satisfied with the level of customer service I received during all my visits and will be a forever client of theirs!

Other places would gladly walk you right to the part you need or even ask about the project and see if they can further help. I mean there was 4 of them shooting the breeze, I'm sure she or any one of them could have broken off to help. If you are the owner or the "social media" person in charge don't reach out. I ordered a lower through them and maglock. They were able to give me a good price since I was getting both. Quick paperwork, and I was out When it was time to pick up the lower, the wait was insane. I spent about 1.5h waiting for a simple pickup. Not sure why they staff 2 workers on the day before a holiday. When I got my stuff I did notice I only recieve a portion of the maglock kit and luckily I caught it before I left. Overally knowledgeable guys. Service is good if its not a crazy long wait. Get there early if you want to be first in line. Plenty of parking. Can be a long wait. Fair prices.
