This one is all about the service. Having been in the service industry for several years, I have my ears perked whenever I go into a restaurant. I've gotta say, these guys have their service on lock. I arrived earlier than my date and was able to just sit back and observe the goings on during a busy dinner hour. I was so impressed! Everything flowed so smoothly and the serving staff were on fire! Perhaps it was just a particularly good night, but I was pretty blown away with what I saw. I noted several moments where guests were just on the verge of getting antsy, and every time someone caught it and swooped in so effortlessly it was almost magic. All this while laughing and joking with each other and engaging guests, adding to the welcoming and warm atmosphere. Once my friend arrived we both commented several times on the level of service, professionalism and pleasant air of all of the staff. Really well done! The atmosphere is excellent, and that's largely due to the folks on the floor. Oh, and the FOOD. Yes, the food gets a 5 as well. :) read more

Went in with some friends around 1:15am! Ordered 5 shots and 2 drinks. They took 25 minutes to arrive. When the drinks got there, we ordered another round, already preparing for the wait time. At this point the server was EXTREMELY rude and just brushed us off. She proceeded to tell us that our drinks couldn't be made because it was past 2am. I told her that was not acceptable as she never said it was last call, so we asked to speak to a manager. He was less than desirable and gave us nothing for our troubles. I will never go back there and neither will 1000+ of my friends that I will be relaying this story too... Everything would have been forgiven if the server was pleasant. read more

My boyfriend and I ended up at this restaurant after someone in line in front of us at another restaurant recommended it. We decided to skip the hour long wait and were happy we did so! While there was a 30 minute wait at Fiamo's, we were able to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink before dinner. The staff were super friendly, and we ended up only waiting 15 minutes or so for our table. The food was great! My boyfriend got the margarita pizza, and I got a pasta dish with mushrooms and leeks. I've eaten at Fiamo a few times and have always enjoyed it. They have a wide variety of interesting and fresh cocktails, and the ambience is always dynamic without being overbearing. Their antipasta is unique and elegant. They have a fish-saffron dish that is just out of this world. Sure, they may get busy and I see a lot of complaints about some mishaps, but mistakes happen and no one is perfect, not even the authors of those posts. I was super excited because I had finally found some decent gluten free pizza in the city. Unfortunately I got the names mixed up and ordered take-out from Fiamo instead of Famoso. If you like the taste of xanthan gum, then this is the place for you. The toppings were scarce and the mushrooms had actually gone bad (I could tell because the whole box smelt bad when I opened it. Upon further investigation I realized it was the mushrooms). My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs and claims they were decent, but nothing great. If you find yourself looking for either meatballs or gluten free pizza, I'd suggest you walk a block over to Market Square on Johnson St. and go to Famoso. I've only been once, but it was a great experience for the whole table of 8 that I was with. read more

The tomato soup was excellent. They have a nice selection of wines. If you want authentic spaghetti and meatballs this is the place. Service was excellent and price reasonable. Get the 1/2 servings as they are huge servings. Definitely coming back read more

Party of 3 - we had 3 different dishes. 1) have never seen ravioli swimming in so much oil 2) vongole and linguini are not supposed to be a spicy dish 3) mussels marinara were too spicy as well Never in the 3 years we have spent in Italy have we had dishes cooked the Fiamo way. We arrived at about 7:50 PM and were told there would be a half hour wait. We walked around downtown and returned to the restaurant after half an hour and although we were told that our table was not yet ready, there were 3 empty tables outside and at least 2 inside. We were eventually seated at a very small table in the corner, while other couples (2 people in each party) who came in after us were seated at tables for 4. The service was very slow. After taking our order, the waitress said she'd bring us bread. Our meal arrived before the bread! Our waitress walked by while we were waiting to tell us that the bread was just coming out of the oven. Had that been the case, it would have been worth the wait, but when it arrived, it was not even warm! I found that the menu did not provide much selection, though I will say that the linguini carbonara was tasty. An anticipated nice evening out for dinner was not the case! read more

I have been here twice now and been very impressed both times. The food is wonderful - very fresh and flavourful and the service was excellent. The prices are quite reasonable too - I would recommend ordering a half order of the pasta dishes as they are very generous with the serving size (I usually still end up taking some home). They also have one of my favourite white wines by the glass - Joie Noble Blend. We will definitely be going back again soon! read more

As out of town tourists, we were initially drawn in to Fiamo after hearing they had prosecco on tap as well as a decent list of prosecco-based cocktails. In addition, they have a beautiful space that is well-appointed, a warm and helpful waitstaff and a damn decent menu to boot. Our food and our drinks were exactly what we were looking for, and at more than reasonable prices as well. When we make it back to Victoria Fiamo will be among our first stops in that lovely little city. read more

i came here with my family for dinner with Italian food cravings. the staff is very nice and they explained to us the specials. we got a appetizer but it was expensive for something pretty small. i also thought the food was average and wish the setting was a bit more sophisticated but i still enjoyed it there! read more

I really enjoyed Fiamo as our first night meal in Victoria. The one thing I notice in Victoria is that in some restaurants the hostess will not always be at her post. I am not used to this; where I'm from, there is always someone there to greet you. All this to say, I walked inside to find the hostess and I think this surprised her a bit. But once we alerted her to our presence, we only had to wait a few minutes to sit, and we got a place on the outdoor patio. It's a little chilly out there, but we figured it would be a better option than the noisier indoor seating. The menu is what you would expect from a trendier Italian place, and I really thought my ravioli with butternut squash and and goat cheese with sage brown butter sauce was perfectly done and proportioned. The place is open LATE, which was much appreciated. Laid-back service, so don't go in a rush. A nice place to slow down a bit and enjoy some good food. read more

The food was all decent. The problem was the service. There were at least half a dozen tables open but still with used dishes, we were the only ones waiting, and they kept telling us it would be a few minutes until one was cleaned. That turned into 45 minutes. Finally, 2 waitresses both SAT at a table, and we're chatting for 10 minutes while setting it. Could not believe my eyes. Took another 30 minutes til someone came to take our order, and then my drink came in another 30 minutes!, I gave up the concept of a refill - never saw the waitress again until we were able to flag her for a check. read more

Salt. Use salt Fiamo. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and it was average (marinara: meh, presentation: meh, they garnish with one basil leaf on top) but the most egregious omission was the lack of salt in the meatballs. I could forgive a home cook for under seasoning meatballs because they need a lot of salt and you have to taste the meat for seasoning before you cook them (I just cook a tiny bit when I make mine so I'm not eating raw meat) but at a well established restaurant where the chef brandishes his name on the menu I think it's unacceptable. They were tasteless. The service was good, all of the servers we interacted with were very friendly and we received our food promptly. But I just can't forgive bland spaghetti and meatballs, I just can't. read more

The mushrooms sauted in truffle oil were significant enough to write a song about, The calamari was cooked to a perfect texture and the aoli enhanced while not intruding on the experience, The antipasto was a very pleasant surprise and I would be remiss if I did not mention that our server Nyasha really made us feel welcome. I have been going to Fiamo since before I lived in Victoria full time, and have never been disappointed in the quality of the food. The pizzas are especially delicious and DEFINATELY worth the detour to fulfill that pizza craving no matter what time in the afternoon or evening. However, I had the worst experience ever last week with the service staff on shift that night. They were so rude that they have turned away the business of four people permanently. The hostess was nice enough and sat our group at a table, however after waiting 20-25 minutes with no server coming by, we were starting to get frustrated. When she did finally appear she was so unnecessarily wound up and was trying to make us apologize for flagging over her attention. She was beyond stressed at the section she was running which was fair enough, but not acceptable to take out on paying customers. This was ridiculous since we hadn't even so much as asked for a drink order yet and now she was calling us rude. To avoid further drama we requested a different server. However, then we were told to leave. Myself and my three acquaintances were so genuinely flabbergasted. To be fair, having worked in the service industry for 5 years I understand the stress put on servers and bartenders, however when it comes to disrespecting a customer in front of an entire restaurant- I would never dare. I think this is so out of line and disappointing especially to a repeating customer whom prior to this incident held high value in recommending this establishment. Never again will I return to Fiamo, and the four of us are all still humiliated at the scene our server created and wish that upon no one else whom considers dining there in the future. read more

Wow; met with friends for cocktails after a tough week. Was pleasantly surprised about 2 for 1 martinis and appies on Friday eveings until 7. It was cold out but inside with a fire at the bar, hot bread from the oven; the best lemon drops and appies to die for(2 for1) Bonus!We had prawns' mussels' the most wonderful wild mushroom dish and a antipasto platter! Friendly staff, great wine list, tasty food. Full service food at the bar, sit there if looking to meet others...my preference. I've also booked the upper mezzanine for parties in a private space. Food was good, service was terrible. Large portions, made fresh and they had a nice daily sheet. We got there at a rush so we sat outside on a beautiful night and they had heaters so it was fine. We sat go almost 10 minutes before our server came. We ordered drinks which took another 15 minutes. Then we placed our order, although she forgot my daughters drink, which she said she would get. Our food arrived very promptly and hot. The half orders were large and we had plenty of food with leftovers. No one came to ask how our meal was and no one refilled our waters or asked if we wanted another drink. Our plates were cleared and she said she would bring the credit card machine. We waited another 20 minutes to pay the bill and while we were waiting our water was refreshed. Our server walked to the table behind us 4 times in that 20 minutes and looked at us like, oops! When she finally came with the credit card machine she made an excuse that it was being used that whole time. Honesty works best for me. I always start my tips at 20% and go up or down from there. When she did not get that and looked at what we left, she glared at us, and walked away. No thank you, come again or I'm sorry. I would go again for the food but as a manager I would unhappy my staff acts like this! read more

Wow! We were on a 23 day road trip form Southern California and I have to say this was far and away the best meal of the trip - and we ate at some pretty darn nice restaurants. Caressa was our waitress and she was the best! Always there when you needed something but not intrusive - perfect! My husband and I shared a caesar salad (best salad ever - the chef even told us his secret ingredient!). I had the lamb chops which were perfectly rare and the demi-glaze was super flavorful but didn't overpower the meat. My husband had the arrabiata and it was full of ingredients (not just sauce and noodles) and spicy. Was the restaurant busy? Yes! We waited 30 minutes to get a table. and yes the food came out a little slower than normal for impatient Americans (that would be me) - but well worth the wait. This was great for my husband and I alone, but if you were feeding pre-tweens they might get ansy. But then again - any busy restaurant with young children is a challenge. Don't let that stop you - just plan accordingly! read more
