Unfortunately had higher expectations. The duck wings were amazing and my husband and I should have just purchased 2 orders of those instead of buying actual meals. Our server was unattentive, the food was bland and not worth what we paid. The advertised drink was unavailable, and the server took away our drinks before we could finish. We asked for the bill and she removed our drinks as she walked away to retrieve. She also never did bring us the bread she said she was getting for us. I ordered the farfalle boushinohalf and I couldn't find pesto, I found olive oil. And lots of it. GUYS!! I never make reviews because it's nothing really catches my attention. But this place definitely did. We are from the US (Oregon) and this was our last night here. We wanted Italian, so we walked around the town. But everything was closed, and this was at 8pm. So, we kept looking. We found this place. Super beautiful on the outside, but we weren't really expecting much. I order the Chicken parmesan, and my friend orders the Linguine Marinara. It came at a reasonable amount of time. Also I should add in here the bread was AMAZING. Anyways, the food comes and it is the best pasta dish I've ever had in my entire life. Honestly. The sauce was perfect, and if I could I would order it by jars. Everything was just so great. It was more than reasonably priced. If anything it was cheap! We were strolling around on Victoria Day without a plan for dinner. We decided on Fiamo based partly on the great roasted garlic aroma permiatting from this Italian bistro and partly because there was a 2 hour wait at Il Terrazzo around the block. We sat at the bar ~10 minutes with a drink while waiting on a table. Once seated at a table,we had plenty of time to peruse the menu. We settled on getting 2 individual pizzas. Our server was a bit inattentive, but I enjoyed the intimate atmosphere of the dining room with brick walls and candles on each table. The crust was disappointing for the pizza, because from the aroma outside and the wood burning stove, I thought it was going to be pretty amazing. It was just ok. read more

We ate at Fiamo on New Years Eve, because they were the only bar with seating available, but only on the patio under the heaters. The inside of the restaurant looked quite crowded. We ordered a Gorgonzola pizza to share and a carafe of red wine. The pizza was delicious. I wish we had ordered one for each of us. The wine was reasonably priced and the waitress was quite nice. We couldn't decide if this was just bad Italian food, or if Canadian Italian food is just different. The mozzarella on the Caprese was mushy & mealy - not a good texture, and had arugula instead of basil. I ordered a margherita pizza, and I got a cheese pizza: Shredded mozzarella, tomatoes & basil with tomato sauce. That's not a margherita pizza - it was so dense & heavy, very unlike a traditional one. My husband got the ravioli, which was just ok - but I got a side of marinara which made it a little better. Their marinara looked & tasted like the paste you get out of a can. The service, however, was fantastic! That's the only reason they get more than one star. read more

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much given the close proximity to tourist-central, but the outdoor seating and friendly service had us off to a great start. Menu was a little confusing as appetizers weren't labeled as such (just in a big list of dishes), but the calamari starter was tasty and fresh bread nicely done. The kicker, though, was the fresh pasta, which kicked our butts. No packaged Olive Garden pasta here. I had linguine with kale (yeah....), artichoke, sausage, and a mustard cream sauce. Crazy good. The location is great. For tourists, it is just a short stroll from Wharf Street and for locals, it is right beside the Yates Street parkade. This was a bonus... no problems finding a parking spot. Our party of 6 arrived and were seated right away. The only problem was that the only tables they had for a group of six was outside (too cold in Victoria after the sun goes down) or in the upstairs part of the restaurant. I'm the kind of guy that likes to be sitting in or near the hub of the action -- see what's cooking, people watch, check out what others are eating/drinking, etc. The upstairs section doesn't quite have the same 'feel' as the rest of the restaurant. This was a disappointment. Service was great. Our server was helpful, informative, polite. No complaints. The menu didn't have anything that really jumped out at me. I settled for the spaghetti with meat balls. The serving size was huge and there was nothing wrong with the meal, it just wasn't remarkable. The other guests in my party were also fairly neutral about their meals. Overall, I would say Fiamo was good but not great. It's probably not somewhere I'll be going back to anytime soon. Not because it was bad but because the other Italian restaurant nearby is miles ahead of Fiamo. P.S. If you take your left overs to go, be careful of the box the put the food in. They stamp it with their Fiamo logo but the ink tends to rub off the wax box onto clothing! read more

My husband and I went to Victoria on our honeymoon. This restaurant was open late, the staff was so inviting... I wore my LA Kings jersey (having just come from watching the Kings win) and we found out the chef was a huge Kings fan - he came over to our table, the manager of the restaurant came over to talk to us as well as congratulate us on our wedding / honeymoon... incredible customer service here! Walked into this place late one Saturday night for dinner and immediately fell in love with the chandelier in the dining room. If only one day that chandelier will be in my foyer! Anyways, the food was delicious, I had the gorgonzola pear pizza. I definitely recommend it, the atmosphere was also great. I didn't mind at all, but you could definitely hear the music from the nightclub next door. Especially in the bathroom, I'm pretty sure the mirror was shaking on the wall because the music was so loud. But the bathroom toilets did have heated seats! read more

The ambiance was really nice, not too loud, perfect for having a nice conversation without yelling at each other. Decent sized starter for sharing, which tasted great. Stopped by after an afternoon of sightseeing. Sat at the bar, and ordered a beer and pizza - half fig and prosciutto / half mushroom, garlic & cheese was outstanding. Well I had this restaurant recommended to me by a friend. I give the review a four star because I was unimpressed w/wait staff, not to say they all aren't great but ours was very unattentive & lazy! I have never been to a restaurant where the server doesn't come to where we are seated, but uses the lower level to take our order & even served us our hot plates over the railing! Funny as I was just mentioning to my Love that if there was someone sitting at the table they would be bumping the the customer & reaching over the other customers table. Well guess what? It happened & I felt a little bad for the customer who was seated there because that happened. They were bumped & there space was violated & our server not once apologized to the customers as if they weren't even there! AMATEUR hour! I actually came here with my boyfriend by mistake. We had tried calling 4 other restaurants and had actually made a reservation elsewhere, but got the name and map confused and ended up here. I should have realized this when they said that they don't take reservations. We were hungry though and so just went in. It was my boyfriends' 50th birthday. It was a little breezy in there, which was the first thing I noticed. The ambiance seemed nice and so I was open to this place. The waitress was very nice, but we encountered a few bumps with ordering and timing,but in the end it worked out. The brushetta came later than we would have preferred, but it came and it was very good. My boyfriend loves brushetta. We shared a Misto salad and it got the special meat dish and I got a gorgonzola pizza. We were happy with the meal overall. It wasn't completely an enjoyable experience and all that we hoped for but it was ok. My parents and I ate there last night, my father's choice for his birthday. We were told no reservations were taken for a party of three and waited roughly 30 mins from 8pm. As we made no request, we were seated inside (though the patio area looked nice). There were two parts inside: the first included the bar/kitchen and an upstairs, decorated with vespa/scooter photos and through the 'broken' brick wall was the bicycle room. Service was ok (our water glasses didn't get filled very often, even when the table next to us got filled, our main server reached behind me and over the banister to the server area to reach for the water pitcher and still didn't fill our glasses... so not quite attentive). The 'focaccia' with olive oil and balsamic was a nice touch, but the bread was a little crisp. From the time we ordered, it took about 30 minutes to get fed. My parents both ordered pasta dishes with seafood. My mother had the Marinara del Fiamo found her meal ok, and the seafood plentiful (though no scallops), but the sauce a little spicy. My father had the Pasta Vongole and found a lack of sauce, that many of the clams were empty, but was happy with his meal. I ordered the Ravioli and added scallops ($9 for 3). There were 2 large butternut squash ravioli, with toasted almond slivers and a few cloves of roasted garlic with non-descript oily sauce at the bottom of the plate. Overall I found it quite tasteless... but the scallops were well cooked and delicious. It's been mentioned, but I thought the heated toilets seats were funny (and strange, as I've never experienced it before). The photos all around gave a nice nostalgic feel. I especially loved the 'bike' photo by our table of a team of 4 (Tour de France?), 1 was smoking, another was supporting the third who was being 'fed' a cigarette by the fourth (the latter was holding the smoke in the former's mouth). On the 'vespa' side, there was a poster sized photo (all were b&w) of a 60's lady in bikini with a sizeable pouff hairstyle in front of a scooter. I cannot ayes how pretty this place is. From the tables to the walls you are in for a visual treat by stepping in here. My glass slid down into the table below and shattered, there was no one down there but it wasn't the best place for the table to be. Of course, not everyone is going to have my slippery fingers. What stupid or to me about that was the immediate and apologetic staff, despite it being entirely my fault. The servers here are very attentive and very kind. Unfortunately the food was nothing special. It felt special ordering, but a little less special eating. My daughter had the meatball small plate and it came out with 2 huge meatballs and a delicious marinara that we ended up dipping our bread in. The food was good but you should know, they like their garlic (so do I). When I took my daughter to the restroom we passed the kitchen and saw a delicious looking cheesecake ready to go out to some lucky recipient. We stopped and asked what the leafy thing on top was and the chef told us it was a gooseberry and then gave us 3 to try. This was a highlight of our dinner.
