While at a local brewpub (Churchill) we mentioned we were looking for the best steakhouse in Victoria. Instead of a formal steakhouse we were recommended to go to Fiamo. There is only one steak to choose from, so I took the local guys word for it and ordered it. I'm kinda a steak snob, so I'm always skeptical when ordering my steak. To my absolute delight the steak was about the best I've had in recent memory! Tender and perfectly seasoned with a hint of blue cheese on the top. It cut with a fork and the plating was exquisitely done. The mashed potatoes were the perfect companion. My wife ordered the Halibut with truffle oil. The fish was firm & fresh, paired with the perfect risotto. This little Italian restaurant came thru like a champ and, will we be back? ABSOLUTELY YES! read more

You know you're off to a great start of a meal when there a few items you're contemplating on ordering! We started off with arugula, Gorgonzola cheese, pear and honey dressing. Beautiful chunk of cheese and fresh pear! So yummy. Then we ordered then"small" plate of mussels with pesto cream sauce. Seriously, it's not a small plate. It filled the three of us heartily and the sauce was light and very tasty. The dinner - the pumpkin squash ravioli was amazing! Al sentence, freshly made ravioli with a very light butternut squash filling, topped with sliced almond. Two raviolis were so enough for more than one person. We also ordered the fettuccine with halibut, salmon, shrimp and mussels. The red sauce has a nice kick to it and the seafood was fresh. Loved the ability to order a half or full order. With the appetizers, a half size was more than enough! Last dish was the tasty bolognese sauce with rigatoni with lamb, beef and pork sauce with a hefty dollop of ricotta cheese. It was voted for the evening, best dish in the table. We would highly recommend this place based on amazing food; the friendly and warm staff and the ambience! read more

Pretty restaurant with nice location. Unfortunately upon my visit service was just mediocre. We ordered some wine and a charcuterie board to start. The waitress couldn't tell us what cheeses were on the plate or anything about the wine we were ordering. Wasn't busy at all. Upon arrival the plate was okay. Presentation was sub par but it tasted nice. Price was good. Bread was cold and they brought ritz crackers... which didn't let you taste the cheese on its own. We tried a sausage pizza (really good), my daughter had the mussels in pesto cream sauce, which she loved, and I had a half order of the seafood pasta w/ squid ink pasta, which was excellent. and couple pastas, and everything was excellent. Goddamn, goddamn! We rolled into Fiamo's and I wasn't sure what to expect. I've been past it lots when I've been to Lucky Bar but this was my first time stopping in. I'm glad we did. We wanted something nice, intimate and tasty. The price was totally fair and the food amazing. We started with the antipasti platter which was delicious and followed by house bread with oil and balsamic vinegar. The white wine we ordered was delicious and crisp and was nicely presented. I had the penne in the red seafood sauce. It was so wonderful it was like devouring my own yummy tidal pool with pasta. Normally I can be iffy on seafood, but this place was right on the harbour and everyone else's food looked good so I'm glad I took the chance. Throughout the meal our server was sweet, attentive and had her eye on us from afar and wasn't intrusive in any way, but seemed to know when to appear at our elbow. Well done, miss. You were tops! Cheesecake for dessert. It was fluffy and just a little firm on top. It was so good I had tears of pleasure welling up in my eyeballs. The espresso rounded it off nicely, though it did wake me up enough I wanted to go swimming in the hotel pool after dinner. I did, but I totally waited at least 30 minutes. A meal THAT good you do NOT want to accidentally vomit up. If I did, I might eat it again, though. It was that good. Approved. read more

Ehhhh. No dice, Fiamo. Came here with a group of 7 and quickly realized that the only thing worth remembering about the night was the fact that we had a nice group chat. PROS: + Ambiance: it's dark, warm, and the comforting smell of food wafts everywhere in the small space + Service: the servers are friendly and attentive CONS: + Food: not a single dish we ordered met or exceeded expectations; the seafood was rubbery; all pasta dishes were coated with thick heavy sauce, think supermarket bottom-shelf sauce; "cheese and meat" plate was uninspired and very underpowered in variety + Wait time: ridiculous. We waited 1.5 hours for our entrees to arrive, totally unacceptable by any measure + Price: I am not a stickler on price by any means, but when you pay almost $30 an entree for rubbery, tasteless goop, you start to feel the pang in your wallet If you bring a date here for drinks and a dessert, the ambiance will be perfect. But if you bring a date who knows her way around authentic Italian food, don't be surprised if she doesn't quite fall in love with your unsurpassable taste. read more

After having stuffed ourselves with really amazing Victoria food for several days we decided to take a breather and have pizza. We were drawn to Famoso but had second thoughts when we realized it was a chain. Fiamo was our second choice and they had some very interesting pizzas on the menu. We did the Shaved Prosciutto pizza with chianti braised figs, goat cheese and toasted almonds mainly because it sounded amazing. We also did the Tartuffo with seasonal mushrooms, capicolli ham, mozzarella cheese, truffle oil and arugula. Our daughter had spaghetti and meatballs. The Shaved Prosciutto sounded better than it was. The flavor was good but the braised figs tasted like unbraised figs and they were far and few between. The rest was just what it sounded like goat cheese and almonds. I really wanted to love it but nothing really came together. Had they cut the figs into smaller pieces or done a fig jam as a sauce with more thin sliced almonds we might have something. The Tartuffo was heavy with truffle oil. Every time I see something with truffle oil I think of Anthony Bourdain in Croatia. They're eating fresh picked truffles and Anthony says "Truffle oil is sh*t". The chef with him repeats it. Truffle oil has to be done sparingly so it doesn't overpower everything. Here they overdid it. It wasn't a mild, well rounded truffle flavor either but young and sharp. The spaghetti and meatballs was as you'd expect (what can you do with spaghetti?). The meatballs didn't have a lot of flavor but were very large and rather tender so there's that. The environment was very neat with brick walls and candles. The service was excellent and the servers pleasant. Things started going south about the time the DJ showed up. There's speakers in every room of the restaurant and he came into our room 7 times and each time turned up the music. As this process went on I looked around and saw people leaning further and further in to still be able to talk. By the time he was done he'd killed all conversations and people were just sitting alone with each other. It was then that we got up and left. I felt like asking him what he was trying to accomplish because if his goal was to kill the mood he did a pretty good job. Side note: These pizzas are technically single serving pizzas for about $14 CAD. We split them because we weren't terribly hungry. I could see a hungry person eating a whole one. read more

I've been to Fiamo three or four times and each time has been a good experience. The service is comfortably friendly and attentive whether sitting at the bar or in the dining room and the atmosphere is pitch-perfect for a casual evening out. Most of the time I've had a pizza; The Italian, the Roasted Veggie, and the BC Prawn. The crust is good, thin but still chewy. The Roasted Veggie (roasted red pepper, zucchini, tomato with feta cheese) is only okay, I was with a vegetarian at the time so I couldn't have one of the more interesting ones (not that I have anything against veggie pizzas, Tapas Bar makes a great one). The Italian (capicolli and pepperoncini) is probably my favourite although the BC Prawn is really interesting (roasted garlic, parmesan, olive oil with sea salt & fresh ground pepper). Friday night between four and seven appetisers are 2 for 1. My favourites are the Black Pepper Shrimp, the Mussels, the calamari, and the sauteed wild mushrooms. I don't remember what I've had for dessert and considering that dessert is very important there must not have been anything remarkable about their selection. read more

Meh. I've experienced better. Plenty of friendly (albeit s-l-o-w) service in the form of beautiful women all over the place. The bread with oil and vinegar was nice. Our dishes were both appropriately sized, but both relied far too heavily on salt and oil for their flavour. I had gnocchi, he had a pesto pasta dish. Both tasted good, but seemed reheated. Elements of mine were overcooked and rubbery while the prawns were undercooked to the point of still being grey partway through. The amount of oil left on each plate at the end was off-putting. Especially for the price, our experience just didn't cut it. It's a shame, as I'd been looking forward to trying it. read more

This should really be two separate reviews : one for food and one for the atmosphere. The atmosphere was great! It was really romantic. The decor was really nice, sort of old Hollywood. The bathroom had heated toilet seats. This doesn't influence my review, but it was interesting for sure. Our waitress was super attentive and did a great job. Now for the bad: the food was ok. I have eaten some fabulous Italian food, and this was not fabulous. It was expensive, but portions were large and that was nice. I would have settled for smaller portions of higher quality food at a lower price. Overall it was just ok. read more

This place was Great! After a long day of playing the tourist role to its fullest, my boyfriend and I nestled into Fiamo's cozy patio. It was really windy so the awnings kept having to be adjusted, which the manager apologized profusely for (unnecessarily, I might add.) I had the gnocci and it was buttery and delicious. The pasta tasted home made and the portions were quite filling. They were playing great music and our waitress was super friendly. We lingered for as long as possible, sipping our beers and enjoying the sunset, this place had an excellent atmosphere. It didn't feel touristy, and the prices were good. If we're ever back in Victoria, we will definitely eat here again. read more

The bread at the table is delightful. I enjoy salty, oily goodness to dip my soft bread in, and Fiamo's brings it. Unfortunately it was brought by a cracked out dude who had serious trouble pouring water, walking straight, and making eye contact. Please do not show up to your service job on drugs. The other customers might start wanting some. The food itself was pretty good. The cheese tower was rather small for what you pay for, so that was disappointing. My gnocchi was A-OK, and as a mushroom fan, I approve, but was not outstanding by any means. Our actual waitress was not on drugs (that I could tell) and was very friendly. However we were up in the top part of the restaurant and were melting from the heat (which made us sleepy after dinner, so instead of staying for drinks we left for fresh air to wake us up), and were not visited as often as the other patrons down below. She did her best, though, and I had no problems with the server. Prices are on the high side of moderate. Nice little bathrooms which apparently have heated toilet seats for "your peeing pleasure" though I didn't notice the heat. Not that I needed heat on a hot day. I'm sure in the winter they are enjoyable. read more

I ate here last weekend for dinner and was very pleased with the atmosphere and food quality. You can dress casually; nice when you've been out sight-seeing all day. I had a salad and the gnocchi; my husband order the salad with ahi tuna, both were very good. Attentive wait staff, nice and quiet with a variety of items on the menu. I can see why there was a 30-minute wait (popular place). As my wife and I were craving Italian food and we didn't want to wait at Pagliacci's, we decided to check out Fiamo. We were intrigued by the handsome dining area and the promise of artisanal pizza. The dinner service with a delicious Foccacia bread which made me optimistic for the rest of the meal. But that optimism quickly turned into pessimism. Instead of an artisanal pizza, I received a thin, but stale-seeming crust topped with flavorless tomato sauce (but with high quality cheese and roasted vegetables). My wife's pasta primavera boasted a sizable quantity of high quality noodles, but with a boring, tasteless sauce. I would be willing to give Fiamo another chance - there is a chance that we just didn't order the right things. read more

Great little pasta spot. My wife had a pesto based pasta and not being a big pasta eater, I chose ol faithful...spaghetti and meatballs. We were both pleasantly surprised with how good our meals were, especially me who thinks all pasta tastes the same. Huge hand rolled meatballs and a house made marinara were awesome. Local beer on special so I wasn't complaining. Only knock was wifes pasta came with olives when asked for no olives. Our server was awesome and very apologetic once pasta came out with olives, but no worries...that meant I could seagull them! Would definitely return and recommend. read more

Absolutely beautiful establishment, and the staff was exceptional. There was a rude diner who threw her water on my mom and in moments the manager was getting the customer to pay their dues and removing them from the establishment. Exceptional service and although we left a bit early because my mom was a bit shaken, the manager offered to fully comp. a meal, and the old fashioned my mom tried was excellent. Thank you so much to everyone there who moved quickly to resolve the situation. We'll be visiting again to fully try more of the menu when we're back in town :) read more

Another wonderful evening at Fiamo's! The service and good is and the food delicious. We had panacea coated goat cheese served warm with ripe beefsteak tomato, argulea greens. My pizza was ok Italian but the cheese wasn't up to par (been to Italy many times), but it was good. Service was great, besides waiting 15 minutes for check. My family and I were taking a walk on our first night in Victoria, when we saw people eating in the covered outdoor area at Fiqmo. We decided to follow suit and sit outside. The patio area is pretty and warm due to the heat lamps, which was pleasant during raining evening. Don't come here hungry, especially when it's busy. We understand that wait times will increase when it's busy, but it seemed like we had to wait at least fifteen minutes between everything (waitress taking our order, getting an extra glass, getting bread). Getting our entrees took about forty or so minutes and it's not a good feeling getting your food at the same time as another group who were seated later than you. Our waitress was very nice and was considerate when we told her about my brother's nut allergy. She gave good recommendations as well. Unfortunately, we had to assume things were busy, because we rarely saw her. It got to a point where we had to ask other passing waitresses to tell our waitress things. Food was ok. We ordered the Poached Pear Salad, Pasta Alla Janetta, Margherita Pizza, and Tartuffo Pizza. The salad and Tartuffo had decent flavors and I enjoyed the spice in the pasta, but there was still a feeling of blandness from the overall meal. Nothing super special. Both pizzas also had burnt crusts with some black spots. Maybe if it wasn't so busy, the service and food would have been better? But I don't think we'll be trying it again. read more

This is not an Italian cuisine! The food is flavorless, no basic Italian spices or herbs are used. I grew up in the Mediterranean's and this is not how the food tastes like there. We ordered linguini and instead we got spaghetti, which was a supermarket grade. The tomato sauce was from a can, there was not a piece of fresh vegetables or herb in it. Very plain and boring. The pasta was topped with one basil leaf, not chopped just a hole leaf. Poor presentation, maybe that is why the lights are dimmed there. There were eighty of us and we were very hungry, but no one finished their food, because how bad it was. read more

This place is not good. Not in the slightest. A good restaurant knows when their food is good and they'll ask numerous times and in different ways. This place only asked once and with the phrase, "was it ok?". We replied with, "it was OK" with emphasis on the ok. Truth is the food is barely ok at best, the pasta that is. When I left I was hoping I would manage to keep the penne and ground lamb garbage in my belly. No one finished their plates. We just got tired of the OK. Sooner are later it's not OK. It's not Ok to charge these prices for far below average pasta dishes. Have people lost their sense of taste? Have they never had good food before? Please, find yourself a really good Italian restaurant that will knock your socks off and come back to this place and try and say it was OK with a straight face. I just dropped $130 on dog food. Seriously, the waiters know this food is crap, that's why they don't ask. They don't want to hear it. The good restaurants have big egos, they want you to keep telling them how you just loved it and how the ingredients were so smartly chosen and combined then wonderfully presented on plates to make a marvellous creation. Me and my wife celebrated our honeymoon in Victoria, BC and found Fiamo through Yelp. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted and seated in a comfortable booth. Our waiter, Lucas, appeared at our table and instantly made us feel welcome. He provided excellent recommendations and congratulated us on our recent marriage, while delivering rounds of delicious food to the table at a perfect cadence and with a warm and inviting demeanor. Since this was our first night in Victoria, we asked him for some local information about other attractions and where to find a dress shirt for a planned visit to the Empress Hotel for English High Tea. Lucas provided superb help and advice, even enlightening us about a nearby hat store. In summary: the service was excellent, the food was delectable and the atmosphere was intimate and cozy. Fiamo made it onto the list of restaurants where we'll return on every subsequent trip to Victoria, BC after only a single visit. read more

A relatively new restaurant next to Lucky Bar and across the street from Ferris', Fiamo is a seemingly upscale place with unpretentious and accommodating service. They have a tendency to make somewhat weak drinks but will make sure not to if you ask them to. I shared the meatballs (delicious meatiness) and a panko goat cheese salad with friends for an appie and both were excellent. For my main I had the seafood risotto which did boast good seafood but I did not find the risotto creamy enough. It was still delicious thanks to a tasty sauce and the fresh seafood but there was room for improvement. All in all, I'd go back thanks to their excellent service, funky/swanky ambiance, and their awesome appies, but I'm not sure I'm ready to give it a go in my regular rotation unless I get a better main the next go through. read more

I have eaten at Fiamo more times than I would care to admit. I love the food and the atmosphere. My only complaint would be getting too full from the Risotto...but I was able to recover from that. I really like the fact they have bubble on tap too, can make a good night even better. read more

My adult daughter and I went here last night. Got the salad special, which was grilled peaches, pancetta, honey, and Romano in arugula. It was DELICIOUS! Also ordered the pizza with figs and prosciutto which was good, but not quite as earth-shattering. We walked right in at around 7 on a Tuesday night and had no problem sitting inside.
