The definition of a solid brewery that's eclipsed the 10 year mark, which in the local brewery world is quite a feat. Definitely give them props, especially considering a recent change in ownership! In my experience, not much has changed since they changed hands. It still seems community focused, they still host events, open their space to other vendors, and you can't beat that patio. True to its name, the literary themed brewery has a library of books inside the taproom, and plenty of games to play. Homages to authors, novels, etc. in the names of their beers. They had a strong variety of beers on tap when we visited. I really liked the pale ale and stuck it with twice on one of those famous cold/hot Denver days depending if you're in the sun or shade. One of the OG breweries on Colfax if not THE OG. Glad they're still kicking in Park Hill! read more

A beautiful venue to see Georgia the band. The theme of the place is so cute with book themed drinks, books all over, and lovely windows. I don't drink much so I got this kombucha which was delicious. They have various events, food trucks outside, and generally pleasant acoustics. I came to this brewery to see Shakesbeer, which is always amazing, but I will absolutely be back for the beer as well as other events. Craft nights? Trivia? dungeons and dragons? Writing nights? BOOK CLUBS?!!!! This is the brewery of my dreams and I plan to return again and again. Obsessed with this place! My husband and I are on our honeymoon and had some time to spare, so he found Fiction Beer Company. We brought our books and read in the comfy chairs for a couple hours while trying their beer - the Outlook was delicious and the decor was sooooo cute, a bibliophiles dream (if they like beer!) it was also Oktoberfest and there were families on the patio playing jenga and cornhole by the time we left - super cute. read more

First time in Denver for a getaway trip with my partner- he enjoys trying local breweries whenever we travel. I assumed by the name the FBC would have something to do with books, but their concept was very nicely captured. My favorite parts were that pieces of the bar area were constructed to resemble a book. From the tap handles to the bar itself. They did a great job encapsulating their creativity. Probably one of my overall fav breweries I discovered in Denver... Fiction Beer Company is a bibliophile + beer nerd's dream come true! The space is so perfectly thematic, from the bar of used books, to the beer names based off book titles/authors, to beer quotes by authors on the tables, to the bookcase with books you can read while imbibing on their amazing beers! Sean, the beertender, was so welcoming; the space was open, bright, and their patio was perfect to take in the incredible early Autumn weather. Literature and beer! What a great combination! In fact at home I have various beer cans of artistic merit on display with my books in my book room. For Literature Brewing we tried three different beers, all of which we highly enjoyed. The first beer was the amber wheat lager, A Beer of Very Little Brain which was a great beer! I love amber, wheat and lager features making this beer a favorite out of the three. The second one was not far behind the first on favorability it was the Honey Swarm Rye Pale Ale. A very creative beer in flavor and one I recommend. The third beer was a Cold IPA, Nameless Leader which also was excellent. Not quite as wild about that one as the other two but still enjoyable and kudos for a type of IPA I don't see often! read more

The absolute worst customer service I've ever had. the guy with the pony tail. don't care to rember its name was RUDE we came in to get a beer. he poured the wrong beer. one I didn't ask for. when the cashier told him he threw a fit like a little kid and slammed the beer down.. note she stopped him 1/4 of the way in the pour it wasn't about her it was about him and his little attitude.. I absolutely loved the decor of this brewery. The bar with the stacked books is awesome. The taps that look like the spine of a book was great. I came on trivia night so it was a bit crowded. Luckily I found a table and sat. So I took in the trivia as I ate my BBQ and drank my beer. I got a flight of four beers and I loved three of the four. A good friend lives nearby, so we stopped by on a nice Friday evening to get a few beers and chat. Indoor and outdoor seating was available, so we sat inside. The beer company has a literary vibe to it. We stayed quite a while sipping our beers as the sun went down. The end of the week/weekend has food trucks outside that will bring your food into you, which is nice. I like a dark beer, and was not disappointed with me choice (ended up drinking the same flavor all night). Really enjoyed the atmosphere of this place! The beer was pretty delicious as well. As a Denver visitor, we got the impression this is definitely a local spot. There was a collection of friendly groups playing Trivia on the Thursday night we visited. They don't serve food, BUT they did have a food truck serving up tapas outside. This was a fun local brewery! It's a bit of a juxtaposition, with crazy Colfax buzzing outside, but a bunch of books inside! Cool set up with the literature and quotes on the tables. I came here with my boyfriend during a recent visit to Denver and was super geeked about it being a book-centric bar because I am a total book nerd and couldn't believe my luck in a place having 2 of my very favorite things: beer and books! I'd excuse the lackluster service and boring vibe as it being a Sunday, only that we visited other breweries that same day that were packed and radiating much better energy. The bartender seemed bored and only chatted with an eccentric patron on the other end of the bar. There was no music playing and very few customers. We did notice and outdoor seating area but opted to stay seated at the bar. We enjoyed 1 beer each and quickly left. I wouldn't return here or recommend a visit. read more

A literary inspired brewery? Yes, please! It doesn't take much to find breweries in Denver when you need one, and thankfully this was closest to where my family and I were having dinner. What do you need after dinner? More beer! Fiction Beer Company's brews are inspired by literature and I ended up with A Beer of Very Little Brain, thanks to Winnie the Pooh! It's a wheat beer made with honey malt... Perfect to honor everyone's favorite bear! I also gave Heart of Hearts a try, a Belgian Triple with dragonfruit. It was the prettiest color and also darn delicious. I'll admit I'm not a beer expert but everyone in my group was able to find something to suit their fancy. The night we swung by they had live trivia going on (Thursday). My friends and I opted for giant Jenga and cornhole on the patio instead. They also have lots of board games (and books, duh). My lil bro and I were impressed to see one of our childhood favorites on the shelves: Pay Day. To know it is to love it. All in all, I would definitely come back for a brew or two! Beer and books? Am I in heaven?? Fiction is great - literary themed so the beers have cute names, but it's also some good beer! There are books and board games for you to enjoy, and a popcorn machine! Friendly and knowledgeable staff in this great space that gets a ton of sunlight. We stopped by Fiction after the bustle of Great American Beer Festival. They had just one a medal for one of their beers and were very excited. We came in the early evening, so much of the crowd was probably at GABF. I tried the Do Not touch the Flamingos which was great and their sour. Their sour wasn't how I usually like them and was more mild, but still great. I like this place and will keep coming back especially because it's a little further from downtown and less crowded. Food trucks are usually around, so you have a chance at those as well. read more

Decided to try this place on a whim. I liked the theme of the bar and the great descriptions they had for each of their beers. I also appreciated that they were participating in Ales for ALS, as that is a cause which is dear to my heart. In terms of the overall ambiance, the place was pretty chill. They had lots of seating and a nice outdoor patio. They even had a book bar! I also discovered that they have parking out back, so do keep an eye out for that. They had some comfier seating and board games as well. For beer, I had a sampler of a bunch of different things as well as the ALS IPL. The ALS IPL was my favorite. I really liked the earthy flavors of the hops used. A close second fave was the Waves and Ripples Gose. It had a bright, rich acidity and was super citrusy. I think that would be my go-to for a hot summer day. I didn't like their IPA or dragon fruit Belgian as much, but the Belgian in particular was very unique. This is THE Park Hill brewery. It's quiet, it definitely in the neighborhood, it's not afraid of east Colfax. If you want a quieter brewery experience with good beers, I think this might be the place. Popularity and audience is on the rise, but it seems this is generally a quieter (in terms of behavior, not attendance) brewery tap room than others in the Colfax / Park Hill / East Colfax area. Atmosphere wise, I guess the book/library theme is doing it's thing, and I like it! They got rid of the free popcorn, so bring your own munchies. Monday night in mid-August had the garage wall doors open, the bar full at 8pm, with some inside table and patio patrons as well. Tonight I had a steam-beer (lager yeast, under 70 degree temp) inspired wheat, an apricot saison, and a "Brut IPA" which is supposed to mimic Brut Champagne. The Brut IPA pushed it just a little more and came out the champ. IPAs are overplayed in this market so I could use a little less dank and a little more dryness and just a bit more of hard bitter. The hops profile is a little rounder and the palette isn't necessarily clean after a sip. Then again, this was the last 8oz of the night, so maybe I need to go back and try it fresh. Their beers seem to hit their target more often than not, all are clean ferments, but I think the amount/mix of hops across the board is a mistake in some cases. I'm still waiting for a great dry lager, saison, IPA etc. I love a drier, super carbonated saison like Dupont and while some of the local breweries are doing saison style everyone is doing new world, malty and/or fruity and/or over-hopped versions of saison. Sometimes you give a place another chance and you're happy that you did. My wife and I decided to wander over on a whim the other day and we are glad we did. I really liked the openness to the space, being nice out and all, with the garage door open and the patio. Being a week night, it was not very full so it really gave it that laid back feeling. Additionally, the bartender had more time to sit down and chat about beers, which I really enjoyed. I happened to see that the Alternate Present placed high recently at the World event so I had to try that one. The Nothing Rhymes with Orange intrigued me while Beta Capsule is one she felt was her favorite. I could see why Alternate won high accolades. It had a great taste, very satisfying while not being heavy. Orange took the prize for me. I never thought papaya and orange in an IPA would do this but it did do 'this' for me. Right now, I can't think of a better summer IPA/beer to drink. I hope they don't run out of this any time soon! I'd like to get back to have some more since a growler isn't an option. Finally, the Beta was good and for someone who isn't a huge fan of New England IPA's I would definitely consider getting this one again sometime. We regularly came here for well over a year and fell in love with the madame psychosis well before they won their GBF medal for it. We loved it so much we got it into our liquor store and visited the brewery at least once a week. Then Bam they win an award for it they take it off the menu and became so pretentious for such a small brewery we quit coming. So after almost an entire year we went back when we saw they put madame back on the menu. They completely changed the beer and it was NOT the same and the bartender I believe his name was Chris skinny guy with big glasses RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE!
