I am the owner of my late father's old AR speakers from the 1960s, which were in need of a bit of TLC to repair the connections in the back which had been loosened to the point of not working anymore. I struck out entirely in trying to find someone in Tucson who had experience working with something of this age. An Internet search for "vintage speaker repair Arizona" suggested Field Services. I explained the situation to Matt on the phone who said he would be glad to take a look, so I arranged to get them ti Phoenix. Like others have said, it quite awhile, but Matt was able to not only fix my speakers, but he updated the connect so the same thing would not happen again, and also included a set of new wires that made it straightforward to get things connected again, all for a reasonable price. I'm now sitting on my couch listening to records on my father's beautiful old AR turntable and speakers after literal years of having speakers that were essentially bookends. Perfect job.....here is the thing they are super busy so you need to talk with Matt about timeline he told me 3-4 weeks it took about 5 weeks but I was in no hurry. If you need it done quick you need to talk with Matt but he was pretty clear. Easy guy to talk to, again if you want a quick turn around this may not be your place. Took in a couple of vintage Yorkville speakers to get repaired. Matthew instantly took them in the back and tested them confirming they needed to be reconed and that they were super old. Gave me a 4-6 week repair window and a quote to do the job IF he could find the old cone kit. He was able to find parts and make the repairs. Field Services - Doesn't look like much but this shop is PRO - Electronics Repair Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

Brought my amp in because no sound output and Matthew quotes me 2-months on the repair. 3-months later and I call the shop for an update because I've heard nothing and I have gigs coming up in the spring and I need my amp. Matthew proceeds to tell me 'haven't even looked at it!' and tells me he'll call me next week and basically hangs up the phone on me. No phone call next week. No phone call the week after. I finally lost faith in the guy with his broken promises and rude demeanor and I go into the store to pick up my unrepaired equipment. I was prepared to just leave the store peacefully with my gear. But he sarcastically tells me "Your Welcome!" as I'm leaving the store. I asked Matthew 'Is this how you speak to all your customers?" He tells me "I have all this equipment to repair what makes you so special?" I told him you said you could fix the amp in 2-months. It's been 3-months. No phone calls no communication. Nothing about me feeling extra special here. Matthew made this experience so much more unpleasant then it had to be. The guy looks completely swamped with other work. I respect professional work. But seems like this guy is stuffing himself at the trough and breaking his commitments to his customers. Then treats them rudely like we have the audacity to interrupt the 'master' for a status update. If he was so talented he would be fixing gear much faster. Total jerk. Would never recommend him to any gigging musician. Do yourself a favor and work with another company that treats their customers with respect and values their musical commitments. Had a pair of 60s altec 12 in speakers from my 63 twin reverb, they are not original equipment but mean a lot to me they hunted down the cones n rebuilt them pretty great....a the bad side the worked on a champ and a Princeton both from the early 60s and put new speakers in them and they weren't needed but did ask me if I wanted my old ones though they said they hated the original ones...well I was nervous and left the original ones...killing the value of 6 thousand dollars of equipment...but I should have taken them so my bad but they knew better read more

I took my Hughes and Kettner to a tech at FS 2 years ago and after 2 months I received a call from him informing me there was an additional $50 charge for ??, I agreed so I could get my amp back. After 2 weeks passed I picked up and paid $225 & on the receipt was written in ink; " there were so many screws to even get into this amp!" Complaining? Really? I get the amp home and it was not repaired! I was told to return it, but instead I ate the $225.00. I had Hunt Amplification repair the amp, it took Hunt 20 minutes to find and repair a bent tube socket for $20.00 Never again FS! read more

Was on the phone for about 15 seconds and just as soon as i said the last word of my sentence i was cutoff with a very short, dry wise-ass "i can't help you with that" from Matt. So I said "okay then" and he hung up. After reading the other reviews it seems I'm not alone thinking that Matt needs to treat people a little cooler. Or don't. Rude and disrespectful does not begin to cover it. Inept, egotistical and biased. Took an amp in for simple switch repair / replacement. 29 DAYS LATER I get a call "it's ready". $1.69 for the switch, $60.00 for labor, and 28 days of screwing off and not giving a **** about it. On top of that the vinyl covering on the amp is scarred, and the visual readout window is has brush marks across it now that are etched into the surface. I am so angry. Also, the photo on this Yelp page is not one of this business. This business is around in back of a strip center in an industrial "housing". I came in here because I was in a bind and needed an amp fixed before a show and my normal amp repair guy was out of town and recommended these guys. I was a bit hesitant because they had some pretty harsh reviews here but I was very impressed. Matt said he had a long wait list but after explaining my situation he told me to bring the amp in and checked it out right away. He ended up solving my issue right then and there by showing me how to run the amp on 2 of 4 tubes and replacing my fuse to get me through my gig that night. They are very busy so it took several weeks to get back, but the price was extremely reasonable and it works like a champ! Very happy with the quality of work. I was a bit uneasy to use this firm to fix a dead 12" guitar/PA speaker from an expensive 1970 Kustom music instrument amp given the mixed reviews, very weak web site & the incorrect photo (their former location) in the header. But of the half dozen places I called in metro Phoenix to get an estimate for the repair, they seemed the most knowledgeable. The place looks like a large storage building behind a not so great looking strip center in Phoenix. Anyway once inside the plain small warehouse, I noticed at least a dozen other music instrument amps in there for various repairs & was greeted by the same nice fellow that I talked with on the phone. After examining the dead speaker, he told me the maximum price to fix it (which was higher than a few other shops) & the only way to be sure it could be re-coned (fixed) was to cut it off the frame - to check the interior voice coil for movement or lack thereof. That meant totally destroying it with a razor blade - yikes! I gave him my ok to proceed since it was dead anyway, therein he found it could be repaired - yeah! He quoted 2 weeks for the work & said he would try to match the original ribbed cardboard cone plus cut the silver dome cover off the old speaker voice coil & re-glue it onto the new one so it would all look original from both inside the cabinet & from the front thru the grill cloth. I got a call from the co-worker that the repair was done 2 days before the deadline & the price was a bit lower than the estimate - both a pleasant surprise. It looks like a new "old" speaker as promised too. I re-installed it in the speaker cabinet & it sounds great. Very happy experience! read more

A few years ago I purchased the Bogner Alchemist 2x12 amp (awesome amp - amazing versatility but damn loud) and after only a few months of use the thing just shut down. No power. Nothing. I was somehow lucky enough to find these guys (Field Services) and I dropped the amp off for repair. I can not tell you how much I appreciated the service I got from these guys. They were so thorough and seasoned and they called me back the same day with the fix. The voltage was wired for the UK by the Bogner/Line6 assemblers. The Field Services folks figured out what wa wrong, replaced the incorrect blown fuse, replaced the tubes with the correct ones, found a loose factory screw that was attached to the speaker magnet, and had the amp back to me within 48 hours. When I plugged in the amp I was BLOWN AWAY. It sounded SO much better and to this day (2 years later now) I have had not another problem. I love this amp and despite how loud the damned thing is I love the versatility. I just found my old receipt from that day and I just felt that I should let others know what a great bunch of folks these guys are. I have a Zoom R24 that Field Services has worked on for me in the past. Today (3-2-16) I called to confirm that they still worked on them and got two of the rudest customer service people I've ever talked to in my life. The first one didn't even know what it was, and was very sarcastic and rude. I asked to speak to someone in charge. That person didn't know what it is either and was also extremely rude and sarcastic. I asked if the company had a change in ownership, as that hasn't been my experience with them in the past, and he got even more sarcastic. I can't say enough good things about Field Services. My $3000 preamp was making some very strange chattering noises. There was a hum in my headphones, too. Of course, this problem surfaced two days prior to a very important gig. When I contacted the manufacturer, they wanted me to ship it to England for repair! Fortunately, I had remembered Field Services in Phoenix. They had fixed some equipment for me a few years ago. I called and Matt said bring it to him. Within two minutes, he diagnosed the problem (bulging capacitors and a loose power supply connection. Matt said he would have it fixed within 3 days. I explained that I had a gig in two days. He said that was no problem. He'd have it done in the morning. The unit sounds better than it has in months. Matt is extremely talented and knowledgable. He's a genius with electronics and audio equipment. His office is neat and professional. He's got parts on the shelf. Great guy. I feel very fortunate that someone as skilled as Matt is right here in Phoenix. What a relief it was to be on time for my gig with no problems whatsover. I don't know how no one has written a glowing review of this place. Located in a small, non-descript plaza off Thomas Road, Field Services is a small and friendly place where you can get almost all of your electronic needs met. I have brought in a buzzing VOX amplifier as well as an electric guitar and a bass that needed re-soldering and all of my visits combined cost me $15 (and that was only for the amp!) Very knowledgeable staff with a very fair attitude when it comes to how much to charge for parts and labor. I came in a fourth time because I had a quarter-inch output that was loose (it had lost a metal ring around it) and after going to several hardware stores with no luck (it was a weird sized washer), I came here and the knew exactly which measurement it was. No tools needed, he just tightened it around the bolt. The fix keyboards, speakers, and whatever else you can think of, too! read more

I can go Frances one better. My studio had gotten bigger and I noticed some hum coming from my favorite pro keyboard. I called to arrange an appointment and the fellow said i probably had a "ground loop." Sure enough I had two power conditioners between the keyboard and my DAW. I plugged the keyboard into the same power conditioner and BINGO! No hum! Field Services fixed my problem and I never set foot in the door - for FREE! It doesn't get any better than that. read more

I have a mesa boggie petal that needed a new cable. The mesa boggie website said to use Field Services as an authorizes repair. So I only needed a new cable installed and it took them 6 weeks to have the job done. The cable has two plugs on it that plug inside the petal so there is no actual wiring that needed to be done. So they charged me $95 dollars for a cable and 10 minutes of work. So I do not recommend this company. Over priced, very slow on a easy job. And when you walk into the place it looks like they just moved in this building. Totally unorganized , messy everywhere, trash and junk in the entrance. I know when i walked in the building i should of never let them touch my equipment. The repaired petal does work. At least that's good. read more
