I've been here about 50 times through the years, and like it for some dishes and drinks. Everything taste okay, and looks okay but with the exception of a few things the flavor needs to be stepped up for sure. For instance the fondue. The fondue at Union (sister restaurant) is outstanding, and here is just missing something. I love the seared tuna appetizer, and enjoyed the Mediterranean (gone now)appetizer as well. This used to be one of our favorites. Seems like the quality and attention to detail has gone down significantly. Our last 3 visits have left us wondering why we returned. The building itself is great. If you are there in the daylight, there are great views outside. The quality of the food has dropped - and is often inconsistent. My favorite appetizer has always been their homemade chips and garlic spread. The chips are awesome when they're good and fresh - the last two times we ended up with chip crumbs. I sent them back, but they couldn't come up with anything better. Then the manager proceeded to belittle us with the waitstaff in ear shot of our table. That was the last time we will go there for a long time - there are plenty of better restaurants in the Portage/Kalamazoo area! read more

We have had dinner here on several evenings. If you want a cozy place to relax with a great view and warm friendly waitstaff this is the place. The food is always excellent. I love the fish and chips, but they need a few more pieces in the serving. The pot roast is true comfort food and the roasted chicken is to die for. We took the entire family and some friends here to celebrate a family friend visiting. The atmosphere of the place is very nice. Beautiful cathedral ceilings, nice woodworking and a really cool gas fireplace. Kind of a old world, country meets northwoods charm. This place has all the makings of a really nice restaurant. The menu is fairly diverse and the pricing is very reasonable. The food is just not very good. I had the lamb, which I realize now probably does not have a huge turnover. It was very average with minimal seasoning. Our guest of honor from Seattle (who is a big fish lover), had the whitefish in a bag, again this was just not very good. No sauce to speak of and no real seasoning. My wife had the chicken and she thought it was very good, another guest at our table had the walleye and gave a thumbs up for it. Overall the presentation of the food was very good. Our service was well below average. The waitress never checked back after delivering our food. The food delivery was slower than average as well. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere, the menu had potential, but the overall service and taste of the food was disappointing. I do not think we will return. read more

For this group outing we sat on the patio which was a very nice and inviting atmosphere. I had the Georgia Peach martini which was sweet and smooth. The new Turkey Burger was outstanding, though the ciabatta roll was a bit tough. Overall, an excellent dinner choice. read more

We had tandoori chicken rice...it was horrible, nothing like the tandoori chicken also significant char. Also had to send back the soup as it had too much salt. Pros: Excellent, professional service, outstanding Mother's Day menu, cool atmosphere and tons of free parking. Cons: Slightly tough to find for a first-timer. Took the Hot Blond Wife to a Mother's Day Lunch with Daughter #1 and Boyfriend #1 yesterday. The special Mother's Day menu was limited but ample and the food itself was outstanding, especially the walleye entree and the two desserts. Plan on spending about $40 per person here but it is worth it. Nice place. read more

The food was as usual wonderful. The service very good. Only negative was when I called for a reservation for 2/13, was told my choices were 4:30 or 7:30. Even though 4:30 was earlier than I really wanted, I took that time. My husband and I were there until 6 and saw lots of empty tables and wondered if we could have been accommodated alittle later, but I don't know the reservation process. read more

I have heard raves about this restaurant and I just don't get it! It has a nice atmosphere, I suppose, but it is in a strip mall. The food is WAY too expensive for the quality and quanity. The service is spotty - sometimes friendly, but never exceptional. I have been here three or four times now (always for some kind of event I have no say in planning) and I am absolutely NOT impressed. We used to love going here but lately things have just been slowly going down hill. It's always a hit or miss with how well the service is. But my biggest disappointment is that their pot roast was to die for and over the year it has shrunk into a bite size plate. This is a pretty nice place with lovely views. They do take out family meals which I really appreciate for my busy family. The owners have a whole bunch of restaurants and if you go to the website, they offer coupons. One such coupon is a 40% off on Mondays- what a deal! We love the pot roast, and also the Salmon. Their Wall-eye is very very good too. They used to allow this to be used for take out, but I guess they just changed that. The service is pretty nice, the food is quite good and there is a good selection. I would reccomend making reservations as a lot of the time there will be a long wait. read more

Manager Troy is always delivering a friendly hello when we are in visiting. I've recently seen a lot of people acting as managers but I'm not sure who else is running the place. One long brown haired girl is always pleasant, the shoulder length blonde gal is not nice to us or the staff. I've over heard her bossing the staff around while sitting at a bar table next to the service area. It just looks bad when your management staff can't show respect to their employees, because are they really looking for the best interest of the guest? Food is amazing. I heard rumor that chefs were traded from Black Swan and Fieldstone? The food quality has gone WAY up and I see signs or great improvement and staff seemed very excited for this change. read more

Fieldstone Grille is one of our favorites. Good variety of classic and unique menu items. The artichoke dip is excellent!! Everything in the menu is good. Good service, great atmosphere, and good food. We even had our sins rehearsal dinner here and everything was excellent! read more

We thought it was a nice looking place when we were seated, as we looked around we noticed how dusty and dirty the wood beams were. As it started to fill up with more peole it was extremely loud, they could benefit greatly from accoustic tiles on the ceiling. We ordered crab stuffed mushrooms, the description sounded better than it tasted. There were no chunks of crab and the lemon beurre blanc was too acidic.Herb crusted salmon was not worth the price. The fish and chips my husband had was just okay, fries were sad. We will not be returning, the price doesn't fit the food. The staff were very nice and were the best part of the experince. read more

After another restaurant in Texas Corners refused to accommodate a group of 10 we made a last minute switch to Fieldstone who were beyond accommodating. Went on a Monday evening where Martinis are 1/2 off and fortunately, they had Tito's. Tried the Fieldstone steak and the entire dish was wonderful. We have always received good service and food at this restaurant. The interior has a large stone fireplace and massive windows revealing a pleasant field with forests in the distance. Outdoor seating is also available. We are always greeted warmly and the servers are attentive. The Field Stone offers a wide variety of lunch sandwiches, all of which are exceptional. read more

I hate this place with a passion. It is incredibly pretentious, which would be fine if their food was good, but it isn't. Their rolls are ALWAYS stale, service is slow, and if you aren't wearing something that looks expensive they will treat you like dogs. The last time we went I had just had a baby and didn't have a huge selection of clothes to choose from. it wasn't until I got there that I didn't feel good about myself, I have never been so uncomfortable in an establishment in my life. I have been a few times and the food has ranged from downright awful (zucchini boat with veggie risotto) to eh (the hamburgers). It is a beautiful restaurant with a nice view but unless someone gives me a giftcard (which is the only reason I went last time) I will never go back. read more

The restaurant itself is nice in terms of the feel and the look. Has a really good view too. The service is what really put us off though. It felt as if the waiter forgot about us. He took a very long time to get our order and then we didn't get bread or silverware and plates till 30 minutes after we ordered. The food was decent. The last couple of times I went to Fieldstone Grill I had bad experiences. They seem to be under staffed. The waitress would take way too long to come back. It took 40 minutes to receive the check and pay. I had to get up and find the waitress. In terms of menu, the food is not as good as it used to be 5-10 years ago. In the past week, I have dined at Fieldstone Grill twice. On Tuesday evening, the service was good, but I noticed bread chunks on the floor near our table. The food on Tuesday was good. I had the Cobb salad minus the turkey. Our waitress described the turkey as cold cuts. I avoid processed meat. My companion had a pizza. It was a good experience. On Friday for lunch, however, a different story. The hostess as she seated us told us the waitress would be taking excellent care of us. Service was extremely slow although the restaurant was not very busy. When my Caesar salad was served, I asked if it had dressing because it did not appear to have any. The server said it did. The salad with chicken was very dry. I asked for additional dressing. Twenty minutes went by and no dressing so I had to ask the hostess. I had an appt. for two hours after we checked in. The slow service made me over an hour late. Fieldstone Grill could and should be a great place to dine, but attention to details and service is lacking. read more

I took my boyfriend there last night for his birthday, the food was mediocre at best. We ordered the Spinach and Artichoke Dip to split, there was barely enough for one person. Then we ordered the Lobster Rolls-you get two small rolls cut in half, again it was barely enough to share. For my main course I had the Fieldstone Steak, it was tough and dryed out. My boyfriend had the Walleye and he complained it had no flavor. It was expensive to eat there and the food was bland at best. We said no to dessert, paid the bill and got out of there-we won't be back. Don't waste your time with this place. read more

My husband and I read reviews of the local restaurants we had not yet been to. We chose this one to celebrate our anniversary despite the mixed reviews. It was wonderful. They had a full house because of a party but were able to sit us at a bar table. I had the butternut squash bisque which was out of this world. My husband had the lobster rolls. He liked them but felt the mango chutney was an odd match. I had the Fieldstone steak. It was cooked perfectly and tender. My green beans were warm and crisp-delicious. My husband had the sage pork chop and loved it. Our waitress could have been more attentive but she had a full station and was very busy. She was very friendly and willing to make suggestions. Overall it was a great experience. We will go back and are looking forward to trying the olive burger! read more

Usually Fieldstone has good food and nice service. However, I am finding that they are not consistent with food quality or good service. Recently, We went to lunch and ordered a cup of soup with a shrimp house salad. We waited way too long for a lunch service. We, actually, had our server ask us if we were ready for dessert now before we had even been served our meal !!... tells you how well she was paying attention to our table! (not!). Our shrimp had been over grilled and sucked dry of any possible moisture it had contained. We complained to the trainee server (our server was not to be found). After our plates were removed, the house manager actually belittled us for not telling the server about the shrimp...I guess complaining to the trainee server who was the only one available to us at the time didn't count to her!! They didn't charge us for the shrimp but the rude behavior of staff is what leaves a bad taste in your mouth! Bad server.....Bad manager.... This is a real hit or miss place.......we won't be back any time, soon. read more

We went here as a farewell to my parents when they have to go back. We had bacon wrapped meatloaf, fieldstone steak, grilled ribeye, and caesar salad. I also bright my then 9 month old daughter, and the staffs are very accommodating. The food was superb, as my mouth water when I typed this :) They have decent selection of wines and beers as well. Had never been here before. Got the shrimp for appetizer- very good! The scallops were delicious, although the risotto was under-cooked (kind of tasted like a Kraft macaroni and cheese quality). At this point, I would have rated this as a very good experience; however, my attention was then directed to my boyfriend's face....To make a long story short, he was disgusted with the quality of the steak he received as well as the care that it was cooked with. He ordered medium rare, and received it medium well with char from the grill stuck on the outside of the steak. It looked similar to road kill after it has baked in the hot sun all day. I quickly ordered him a second glass of wine... All in all, not a bad place if you're not expecting anything special. read more
