I live in the Detroit area and visited family in the K'zoo area on Thanksgiving day. I was able to make reservations for 4 the Monday before Thanksgiving with ease. The limited menu provided had something for each of us. The food was good, reasonable prices and a nice atmosphere. Erica was our server and she was great. This restaurant has been a great spot over the years when friends and I wanted a "finer meal" than the chains. A friend and I met yesterday for lunch and could not have been more disappointed. Although the staff was friendly and helpful, the food left much to be desired. I ordered the chicken entree with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were dry, the asparagus was not all the way cooked. But, the worst was the chicken. It was a smaller than small breat and covered with a sauce that tasted like jar sauce. For the price of the entree, it left much to be desired. It felt like a heated up Lean Cuisine, truthfully. When I informed the server of my disappointment, she politely apologized. Always reliably good. Such a beautiful, relaxing place to have maybe a family dinner. Live the dimly lit dining room with fireplace. The food is always good. Pretty mild flavors but tasty. Kind of like good home cooked food in a way. Wine list is pretty good too. Now for take out I would give them 5 stars for what you get and the price. So easy to order a family meal and get plenty of food for a really reasonable price and all pieces of the meal are nicely served in individual dishes. We arrived early(4:30pm) and were seated promptly. The staff was friendly and courteous. We order drinks( beer and martini) and our server gave us plenty of time to decide on our entree. I order the Balsamic Pork Chops (white bean soup) and my wife got the Seasonal Salad and a cup of White bean soup. Our orders came in a reasonable time and was attractively plated. Being fall seasonal vegetables, squash and kale were served. My pork chops came with caramelized onions and mushrooms in a delicious sauce. The side of Kale was undercooked and bitter. There was also a huge amount of it on the plate. It really distracted from the other food. I pushed it aside as well as some affected squash. I could only eat one of the 2 chops as the other was made bitter because of the Kale. My wife's salad too had a HUGE serving of bitter and undercooked Kale. Almost no other greens were part of the salad other than a small amount of grain. The cheese balls were tasty but that was about all. The rest of the salad was also affected by the bitter Kale. We decided to order a desert to offset the Kale. We ordered the Apple crumble with ice cream and whipped cream. It smelled delicious and was piping hot. However the apples were not peaked and became chewy. It made the crumble hard to eat without getting some peel. It ruined the Desert. It was just hard to rate the whole experience as any more than a 2 because of all those problems. And upon leaving my wife said "I don't care if we ever come here again!" read more

I like this place, it is a bit pricey for what it is but it quite good. We started with martinis that are very reasonable and inventive. For appetizers we had the Lobster Eggrolls, and Sea salt Shrimp. The Eggrolls were best. The shrimp were good but small and a little dry. For entrees we had the Top Sirloin and the Almond Crusted Walleye. The steak and fish were cooked perfectly to order. The potatoes were nothing special. I thought the fish portion could have been larger but it was very good. All in all it was a very nice meal and the service was very good. read more

Hubs and I decided to try the Fieldstone Grill last night. Delightful experience! Coctails were delish, he ordered the gumbo which was tasty and perfectly seasoned..mildly spicy. I got the Cacio de pepe with salmon on top, it was tasty but truthfully not the best I've had..not lacking in flavor, more a execution issue. Its a simple pasta but there's a technique that needs to be followed. With that said, it was good. We also ordered dessert Coctails..the peanut butter screwball one was fabulous, I got the chocolate pretzel one..yum! Before leaving the Kalamazoo/Portage area, I stopped by Field Stone Grill to get a bite to eat. I had been told by a friend that not only did they have good food, they also had a wonderful outdoor seating that has a great view. All I can say is that I'm glad I listened to my friend. The view from the outdoor seating was very nice and calm - which was just what I was looking for at that particular moment. As for the food, I ordered the Salomon Salad. I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting, but what I got greatly surpassed my expectations. All I can say it is that my taste buds were extremely happy. The service was just perfect. My server checked on me periodically, but for the most part let me be which suited me perfectly as I was just looking to relax and enjoy a nice lunch. If I'm ever in the area again, I will surely make sure to pay Field Stone Grill another visit. read more

Terrible restaurant lately. We've been going here for 7 years and used to enjoy it. The last 4 trips have consisted of the following: 2 trips where it took them 90min to cook our food. 2 trips where the food was severely undercooked. Once steak, once chicken. I've found the management and waitstaff apologetic for the incidents but they keep happening and they seem to have an issue they aren't dealing with in the kitchen. I'm done eating at this place. Three trips to Fieldstone and they were all a delight. The food is classy and tasty. It isn't the fanciest fare in the Kalamazoo/Portage area, but it is quite well executed with a welcoming presentation. I had the "perch pike" upon my last visit, and the coating was delicious. Our appetizers were great, and one of my companions raved about her chicken. I have never been disappointed. The view is hard to describe. It is amazing, especially around sunset, but if I tell you it looks out upon a field with a forest in the backdrop, you might say that sounds blah. Trust me - it isn't. It is true Michigan, and can be appreciated by anyone, including out of town guests. The service is good. Pleasant, frequent refills, and the kitchen has never gotten my order wrong. I think one of my companions had an undercooked steak once, but it was quickly rectified with no cost for the misadventure. Fieldstone is a wee bit pricey - which is okay in my book as I've always felt the meal and experience were worth it - but don't expect to get out of here on the cheap. If you're visiting Kalamazoo/Portage or if you live in the area and haven't tried it yet, don't let this place slip by - it is a must-try for all those who wander through these parts. read more

They have a home-baked bread accompanied by a wonderful herb butter. We had the beet salad, very solid. The steak on mashed potatoes and a glass of house red. We have been to FSG a few times now and haven't had a bad experience or bad food. It was lunch time and was slow to start but got busier as we were there. Server was very friendly and accommodating. Service speed was good. I ended up having the lobster egg rolls to start. Try them! My wife and I really enjoyed them, and she is not a huge fan of seafood. For main course I had the fish and chips. My first impression was lack-luster as the restaurant is situated in a nondescript strip-mall. Once inside however, the setting is lovely with wonderful views through lofty windows. My fish taco was just delicious as was my daughter's vegetarian ravioli. The brownie with ice-cream, salted nuts and caramel dessert was simply sinful. I was there on Saturday. Been a little while since last visit! Seems like quite a bit has changed. I can't say it was as good or better than my last visit, because it wasn't. The menu has changed significantly and not for the better from my perspective or the other 3 people at my table. 2 ordered the entrée chicken salad- total thumbs down!! Big bowl of chopped lettuce, some chicken chunks- and nothing else but the small side container of salad dressing- which was not anything different than what you get from a bottle of Kraft dressing. Sad. Next- the pastrami sandwich- pitiful!! Never have I been so disappointed in what I was hoping for but a well executed Reuben- but even this was nothing but some pastrami, some French fries "On The sandwich " - not a good mix, and a small handful of fries with the sandwich. To exacerbate the situation- the sandwich was not even lukewarm! Never again. Our only companion with no complaints ordered the Nola Pizza. It appeared to be hot, well executed and put together. The bar cocktails were excellent ( margaritas and a Manhattan, and draft beer). Experience has caused me and my friends to bump Fieldstone Grill way down on an easy choice venue to maybe last resort! Fieldstone is usually a great place but today 11/6/22 was extremely disappointing. The waitress Seems pretty disappointed after seeing a big group of 14. Coming after a dance program women were in dress costume. Waitress asked all women for ID while she never asked for the ID with men . She was rushing with orders and rude . 1st time visit - the place looked like it had serious potential. Clean, elegant restaurant. The food/drink menus had many options, the majority of which seemed appetizing to myself. That's where my 1-star comes from. My family dined at this restaurant for my cousin's wedding reception. We had our own separate area for everyone, however, I don't believe there was enough seating at first - but they accommodated. By biggest complaint is that I could not understand why we got there at 5:45pm, ordered drinks and food by 6:30pm, and we didn't receive our meal until after 8pm. We didn't even receive appetizer bread or our starter salad until at least an hour after being seated. Actually, we had to ASK for the bread, because everyone was getting really hungry and impatient. There wasn't even an unreasonable amount of us, either - roughly 30-40 people. There was a fixed menu, so it's not like the kitchen was making 30-40 different dishes. I'll also note that the wrong fixed menu was placed at our seats when we first arrived. To sum it up, this place disappointed me because it's as if they weren't even expecting us to begin with. I love the outdoor patio here. I tend to visit Fieldstone for special occasions with friends and family and it has the perfect atmosphere for these events. It's also never too noisy to hear conversations even though there are always a ton of people eating here. The food is always great and they have a good wine list and drink menu. read more
