Always a favorite of mine; although I have to admit it has probably been a year since I last visited. Last night I met some co-workers for dinner. I love the atmosphere of Fieldstone Grill. The building is large, but it is not that noisy for as many as it can hold. There was even a very large party of close to 20-25 next to us and it didn't bother us at all. A little too chilly for me to sit outside last night, but they do have one of the best patios in the area. It's covered, so even if it is raining, you can enjoy the outside. As always, the wait staff is topnotch, Our drinks came promptly, along with our appetizer. The main course was served at the appropriate time. I had the Grilled Vegetable Ravioli, which was very good and enough to take half of it home. My co-workers had the Herb Crusted Salmon and also the Blackened Chicken Fettuccine and everyone said their food was delicious. This place has a great modern atmosphere that gives it an upscale feel but the actual meal I had was mediocre and unfortunately did not live up to its beautiful surroundings. I tried their famous almond crusted walleye fish which the presentation looked very good but was lack luster bland and could have used a bit of seasoning. I also had the beer cheese soup with crackers that was mehhh. Their outdoor patio is a great place to have your meal on a beautiful summer evening but make sure to finish before night falls because the mosquitos will eat you alive and kill the beautiful moment. WOW, Stellar! We found this on yelp while driving on the highway and were pleasantly surprised. All our meals were excellent. We got the artichoke dip appetizer, the fish tacos, Mediterranean salmon, a pot roast sandwich, and a greek turkey burger. Everyone was overly-pleased with their meals. I rarely get desserts, but their menu looked too good to pass up. The bread pudding was UNREAL. Ate it in literally less than 3 minutes. The restaurant itself was really nice, great ambience, clean bathrooms, a unique drinks menu with a wide variety, and even good water! You can also sit inside or outside and the service was great. I would have given this 4 stars, but the prices are very reasonable, so I think it deserved 5. Sandwiches/burgers are about $9 avg, and entrees are about $15 avg. ENJOY! read more

I must start with the atmosphere - this place reminded me of a run-down country club - while the view overlooking the marsh sunset was spectacular, you could barely see it through the dirty, streaky windows. I thought the birds hanging from the ceiling added to the country club tackiness, but if that's your thing, then you should at least dust the cobwebs off them every once in a while. I would actually give this place 3.5 if I could but I wouldn't go as low as a 3.0. I think the food is only so-so (don't hate me!!!) I'm not really a fan of the menu. I always have trouble choosing because there is only a limited selection and there are tons of seafood and fish on menu, which I do not like. I usually play it safe and get pizza or a burger. A lot of people like the fsg chips but the dip is so bland and boring! I don't see what they see honestly. On a positive note, I will say that the ambiance of the place is what keeps my husband and I coming back. My friends and I love sitting on the patio for drinks. (They could've sent a bus boy next-door for bread, and JIF!) There were only 3 other tables seated in the place, so they were NOT too busy. We sat a LONG time before receiving our food. Most experiences at Fieldstone have been good but tonight not so much. The manager was very unfriendly with staff and customers. Our server was great and I know they are understaffed just like everywhere. They were using a table next to us to pile dirty dishes. When our food was brought out my husband's was spilled over on him as the helpers set it down. We got desert to go but it was not great tasted old, not sure if they just bought it. This is not my usual experience. Won't stop me from trying again but it will definitely be awhile. read more

My coworkers and I went here for lunch today. While its a little off the main drag, it was worth the drive. The Millenium group has a 40% off coupon for Monday, but I know that we would have gone even without the coupon. I had the Steak & Mozzarela salad. It's to die for! We had a large group of people for dinner, and the place we wanted to eat had a 2 hour wait. We called ahead, and the hostess said there was plenty of space for our group of 12. We were seated quickly and our server was very attentive and helpful. The desserts that 2 of our group had were fantastic. The decor is absolutely stunning, with the natural views and stone fireplace that call to mind a ski lodge. That's where the positives for our experience end. Half of us ordered the special (salmon cakes, which sounded divine! We all felt ill a few hours later). Nobody was overly impressed with their food, especially for how expensive it was. Lamb wasnt too expectation, paella had no flavor, fish needed seasoning, pizza was runny cheese, the steak wasn't worth the price. The manager seemed a bit irritated that she took the incorrect percentage off the bill, and then blamed me for having the "wrong" discount card (to clarify, I told the server I had a MILLER Auditorium card, which gives discounts of 5 to 10% at participating businesses. All of the millennium group is listed on the card. The manager assumed I meant I had a gold alumni card (which I know NOTHING about) and argued with me about Millennium group not being part of the Miller auditorium perks.... THE NAME IS LISTED ON THE BACK! I have NEVER had an issue using my Miller card at ANY business!). The manager also was not too happy, it seemed, that we stayed for a bit to finish our drinks and chat. Needless to say, most of us will NOT be back. It's been awhile since we've been here, and once again, I left very pleased with my overall experience. The building is cozy and the view is gorgeous. The servers were very attentive, my glass was never empty. We went there for Mother's Day brunch and I couldn't have been more pleased with the food. I've never been a big fan of beans in soups, but their Herbed Chicken and White Bean soup was fantastic. The soup was extremely flavorful, and they didn't skimp on the chicken or beans. I would've loved to order a second bowl. For my entree, I got the Lemon Chicken. I was a little hesistant to get chicken because it's often dry and overdone, but I will admit, this is the best chicken I've had in awhile. They left the skin on and it was roasted perfectly. And, if I didn't look at the menu again, I would've thought it was chicken thigh because the meat was so juicy and tender. It was paired with fingerling potatoes and spinach. I'm not sure if the spinach really dded to it, but it's not bad that it was there. For dessert, I chose the tiramisu. That was a really decadent dessert and made for a perfect end to a near perfect meal. Highly recommended. read more

This evening hosted my second visit to the Fieldstone Grill and solidified my 5 star rating. What you don't expect from a deceptively storefront facade is a very spacious and hunting-lodge-with-a-an-elegant-twist ambience. The dining room is further emphasized with a roaring fireplace and a spectacular view of the trees and greenery of the Woodbridge area of Portage. Translate: great spot for a romantic dinner for two. During my first visit I ordered the seared tuna salad. Excellent choice. It was larger than anticipated and I was pleased with the use of quality and varied greens married with generous slices of seared tuna. The tuna itself was prepared with just the right balance of cookage as to not dry out the edges while maintaining most the raw sweetness of the fish. The soy lime dressing was divine but I must say that the zealous use of lo mien crunchies was overdone and distracting. I would order this salad again but easy on the crunchies. This evening's fare was comprised of the bibb salad and sea salted shrimp appetizer. These hit the spot perfectly as I was hungry but not in the mood for heavy fare. The candied walnuts combined with feta cheese and cherry vinaigrette were a divine salad combination. I'd have liked the shrimp to be a tad crispier and saltier but they were quite pleasing as-was. These are served with a scallion aioli and your traditional cocktail sauce but I thought they were wonderful enough with a squeeze of lemon. read more

This place looks like a ski lodge and it was quite inviting! The restaurant always has Meals To Go but on Sundays you can eat those meals in the restaurant. Six adults and one three year old shared two of the meals made for 2-4 people and we were pleasantly surprised that they were both very good. We got the roasted pork loin and the breaded walleye. The walleye was almond crusted, pan roasted & served with chive cream sauce, the pork roast was served with herbed gravy and bourbon apples. Both entrees came with mashed potatoes, fresh green beans and warm rolls with this insane tasting butter. We ate it all up and everyone loved it..especially the green beans! I would eat there again. Memorial Day weekend Sunday is a great time to hit a Resturant. We walked right in and was promptly seated on the patio. Andrea was our server and was very nice with prompt service. We had the fish tacos which were really tasty. The only down side was the fish was pan fried and they used a bit too much grease. When I'm in the area, I frequent here for lunch. Great atmosphere and ambiance. One drawback is the room is very open that can draw for noise when busy, which can be distracting during intimate conversation at your table. Overall, I love the decor, high ceilings, large windows and large fireplace. I love to have their refillable bowl of creamy tomato soup w/ their warm rolls they bring to the table. Another favorite I always order during lunch is their seared ahi tuna. Delicious! Great selection of wine too! I came here for a lunch meeting with a group of 6 people today and everything was just awesome. The ambience was nice and cozy for a cold day, service was fast and friendly and the food was tasty and properly portioned (note since I am not morbidly obese and sometimes do enjoy staying in shape, standard portions are fine with me, if you are a lumberjack and enjoy Cheesecake Factory siZed portions this place is not for you). Fieldstone is a beautiful lodge-like building nestled into a lovely nature-preserve setting, and it's always the first place I go locally for a meal out on the patio (the first 70 degree day of spring, I'll go there for lunch) and my favorite place to go around sunset on a lovely fall day. The fireplace also gives off heat and ambiance. The vibe is five-stars every time. We've had epicly amazing meals there and a few that were just so-so and the food/menu/prices used to be a touch better, which seems to be true of many of the restaurants in Portage (although Fieldstone has only gone down a small notch verses the giant leap downward of other local spots like Craftman Chop House and LoDo's). I like everything I've had on the "shareables"/appetizer section of the menu and really enjoyed a girls night out where we ordered that whole section of the menu to share and took advantage of a daily special on wine. The Fieldstone Steak (grilled-to-order and topped with our Guinness Stout sauce and bleu cheese butter) and the Fish Tacos are our go-to meals. read more

I was very impressed with the Field Stone Grill. Not only for their cozy hunting lodge atmosphere and their yummy food, but because they actually took the time to accommodate my multiple food allergy husband and my gluten-free friend. Before going there, I called them the day of and asked if they would be able to make their Walleye plain (as in, no yummy crust) for my husband's allergies. The woman I spoke to was very nice and asked the chef, who said that it was possible, as they had not crusted all of their fish. Unfortunately, by the time we got there for dinner, they had indeed pre-crusted all the walleye. But, the manager came out, apologized for the misunderstanding and was able to make my husband another type of fish, completely plain. They were also able to make him a special, plain vegetable dish too. And during none of that time did we feel like we were "putting them out". I got the pot roast and it was amazing. I wasn't able to finish the whole thing, and it tasted even better the next day! I was just bummed that I didn't have room for dessert. The only small snag was that they served my GF friend's soup with fried onions on top (not GF). But they caught it right away and fixed it. Overall, we were impressed and we will return. read more

Went to Fieldstone last week on Tuesday night. We typically go on workdays not the weekend. Love the drink specials on weekdays. Always sit at the bar a sI like the buzz. The decor is very ski lodge-ish with lots of wood and it looks great!!! I like white wine so I often order the Snoqualmie sauvignon blanc which is priced well. My two most ordered food items are: 1. Appetizer: lobster rolls 2. Main: steak and mozzarella salad I could just eat the lobster rolls as a meal if I wanted to go light. The steak and mozzarella salad has steak cooked to order with a large salad underneath it. The mozzarella, steak and vinaigrette dressing complement one another well. Definitely in my monthly rotation of places to go and will continue to be. read more

This review is after one meal here. We will come back at least once because the ambiance is nice, but Full City Cafe is a much better bet in terms of food (but very much lacks in ambiance). I will update the review when I come back. The ambiance (lodge-like) and view are very nice but I feel the food was only okay. The sesame-encrusted tuna was fine but seemed to be cooked too much (it is described as "rare" on the menu). The risotto (with the balsamic portobello mushrooms) was good as rice, but was not risotto (it looked like they used a long-grain rice and not arborio or carnaroli. The use of balsamic vinegar for the wilted spinach and for the mushrooms worked but it made me feel that the dish tasted mostly like balsamic vinegar. My wife found the choice of bread (ciabatta) for her burger did not work well. The bread/butter we were not up to our standards. read more

We made our first trip to Fieldstone Grill and we already can't wait to go back! The atmosphere of the restaurant is really classy and comforting. The service was also really great; our server checked in on us frequently and was really friendly. We really felt taken care of. We ordered the herbed chicken soup, which was so so delicious. (The bowl is bottomless!) I ordered the steak salad, and was so happy I did. It had the perfect portion of steak, and the addition toppings were tasty and blended well together. My wife, my Mom and I stopped in for an early dinner on a Saturday afternoon. I had eaten here once before and was unimpressed but we thought we'd give it another try. Got a table alright but was informed right off the bat that it was reserved for someone two hours from when we initially sat down. I've never spent 2 hours eating at a restaurant...at least on purpose...so right away I'm feeling a bit rushed even though we had plenty of time. I ordered the red wine braised short ribs with a cup of summer squash soup, my wife order the perch and my mom ordered the salmon with bok choy. The soup was ok but could have used a LOT more seasoning. My Italian veggies (a mix of green and yellow zucchini and peppers) was more flavorful than the beef which while tender enough was bland. VERY bland. My wife liked the perch but her mashed potatoes were served cold, and my mom's bok choy was hammered....cooked to a lifeless lump of tasteless bleh. No crisp whatsoever. She did say her salmon was prepared well. One bitten, twice shy. Probably won't go back. read more

I was very disappointed. I was with a group of 10. I ordered the Caprese chicken sandwich. It was just ordinary. One or my friends got the seafood Mac and cheese. It came and, literally, looked like barf. It was a weird color of brownish yellow and the actual macaroni was indistinguishable. She was unable to eat it. Most of the food ordered did not look appealing. You would think that from a restaurant of this supposed caliber, with prices to match,that the food would be better. Also, being a Thursday and not particularly busy, I was never asked if I wanted a second drink and the waitress didn't come back to check if everything was ok. read more
