The service was quick, friendly, and our wonderful waitress checked on us frequently. There was a large variety of selections on the menu. I got the shrimp enchiladas. The portions were very large, and great value for the price. There was also live music and dancing, which made the experience even more pleasant. one of my favorite restaurants in san diego! i've frequented here over the past couple of years, but this review is for my visit on august 21, 2026. when i went here on this late august evening, it was such a vibe. it's a cozy spot with mariachi music playing in the background, sometimes live since there's a stage nearby. the spanish colonial aesthetic here really captures the heart and soul of old town san diego. food is the most important, and they nailed both the entree and dessert. i ordered the steak and shrimp burrito ($25), which was excellent - flavorful, unique preparation, and generous portion size. if you're in need of a high protein option, this one is one of them. for dessert, i got the deep fried ice cream ($11). it was also excellent, with a light crust and a nice touch of cinnamon sugar. it wasn't too sweet (which asians like me prefer), although for $11 the portion size could be a bit more. still overall excellent nevertheless. service was excellent! my server/bartender was Jeronimo, who was very warm and friendly. my food came out 5 minutes after he took my order, which is very fast! pacing and water refills were on point. the staff here in general are all very friendly. read more

This place reminds me of Olvera Street in Los Angeles. There are several restaurants to choose from. I even passed by a place where two ladies were making tortilla from scratch. I even got to try one. Even though I wasn't told what kind of tortilla was that, I knew it's made of corn because I could really taste the corn on it. There are several shops that carry traditional Mexican products such as ceramics, ponchos, home decor etc. I also watched the live entertainment where I watched performers dancing. The music lured us in and it was everything. Free concert! Fantastic Latin band that night and free to sit on the benches. They sold cocktails which was nice. Lots of people got up to dance and don't worry about losing your spot bc you'll easily find another. Would definitely come back here for the music. Hubby and I took a dance break to grab a churro from the Mercadito shop selling some of the best churros I've had. We found a bench and ate our churro and watched others dance for a bit. Fiesta indeed! I've stopped by here early morning and late evening and the party is always hopping. Of course, it's a bit more lively when the sun goes down, but I prefer my parties during the day. There are lots of great souvenir shops on the perimeter and then restaurants in the middle. There's also a stage with seating for live music. I haven't seen it myself, but I can imagine some amazing salsa dancing here with the band. Maybe one of these days I'll pack my dancing shoes and venture out past dark and see what I can find. read more

We were walking Old town San Diego to explore and came to the end of the path. And here was this active village with a floor show in full Mexican Dining and ladies making tortillas for the whole restaurant from a little hut with a screen window. Wow! Well , Enchiladas and a chili reneno both with rice and beans go us. Both served with tortillas made today by the ladies. That alone makes a difference you don't realize till it happens. I love this restaurant. I have been coming here for around 30 years. My family and I love the food and ambiance. The food is excellent. I must say that this time the service wasn't great. Socorro was our waitress. I believe she can improve in the way she attends to get customers. It took her at least 15-20 minutes to come to our table to offer us something to drink. Once she served us the chips and salsa, it took her another 10 minutes to take our drinks order. We needed a refill on our salsa and we had asked her for water, but she forgot. I believe that all servers should keep in mind that for many tourists this restaurant is the closest they can get to Mexico, therefore the servers should strive to make it an out of this world experience. It would be great if they can concentrate on portraying Mexico culture in every interaction, instead of acting as if they are in their own kitchen serving their families. A touristy place and good at that. Place to bring out of town guests for a lunch or dinner if you are showing them Old Town. Also used by locals for small (up to 6 or 8 people) inconsequential celebrations. Adjacent to a stage with live music. The food is Mexican of decent quality. You drink margaritas here, the El Jefe margarita - a huge shared glass with multiple straws adds fun for $80 - highly recommended for a large group of light drinkers. The overall outing is surprisingly inexpensive for a touristy by the modern standards: we were able to fit into $40 per person with 6 of us sharing El Jefe and getting regular dishes (no appetizers, no lobster). This is not a fine dining place, not a romantic place (more than OK for the first date). Judged according to this parameters. read more

Entertainment is constantly rotated and fresh. What's perfect is that all performances are free and there's a dance floor to join in on the festivities! There's plenty of local businesses to support here such as a tile shop, souvenir stores, and hand-crafted items. My personal favorite shop is Nibble Chocolate, home to some EXCELLENT vegan hot chocolate and champurrado! Throughout the plaza, you'll also find street taco and tamal booths. The food is a bit pricey, so if you'd like to try a little bit of everything for a more affordable price I'd recommend eating at Casa De Reyes since they own the taco/tamal booths. Just order a combo plate where you can pick and choose what you want to try. I always have a great time visiting this iconic San Diego plaza! We visited this enclave like shopping area while visiting "Old Town San Diego" and regretted that our schedule didn't allow us to eat at the restaurant. That said, we were able to visit a couple of shops where we bought souvenirs and gifts for ourselves and our friends. Specifically we visited " La Flora de Mexico" which had many many items for a back yard or garden area...some very beautifully glazed terracotta pots...one of which I bought for myself and other garden and back yard items for some friends. Also, we visited "Del Cobre Old Town Copper". The hand made copper items here are beautiful and my wife bought a few items for her friends. We visited nearly all the shops and loved them all even if we didn't buy anything...the "tile" place was a missed opportunity as we didn't have any pending projects that needed these types of items but it's something we'll keep in mind. While we walked the permitter of shops there is a restaurant in the middle where lots of people were enjoying their Sunday morning. Great atmosphere all around! read more

Fiesta de Reyes is always a good time when I'm hanging out in Old Town. It's so colorful and lively in the evenings when the live bands are playing. My favorite time to come here is during Día de los Muertos when they have all the decorations up. Fiesta de Reyes (celebration of kings) is an area in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park that has a small hotel, gift shops, restaurants, and an outdoor stage for live music. You can order drinks and dance on the dance floor when the band is playing. Admission is free to enter into Old Town San Diego State Historic Park and Fiesta de Reyes. The park commemorates the early days of San Diego from 1821 to 1872. It gets pretty crowed here in the evenings. Casa de Reyes, Barra Barra Saloon, and The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Restaurant are the places to dine at. There are many shops that surround the main courtyard area that sells gifts and snacks like ice cream and churros. Casa de Reyes gives out free homemade tortillas at a small window near the restaurant if you are wanting a small bite. Casa de Reyes is my regular stop for food when I visit Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. While I was waiting for my table, I visited a couple shops and picked up a few things. Then I grabbed a drink and enjoyed the entertainment. I love when the dancers come out and perform. Their dresses are so colorful. Sometimes they have mariachi bands too. My favorite part of coming here is immersing myself in the culture (and the food!). Despite how crowed it can get here, Fiesta de Reyes is a good time. read more

Such a fun place to come and have dinner. First, to get to the restaurant you have to walk through old town San Diego. It's a short walk, don't worry. As you get closer, you're greeted by great music coming from the live band. It seems that they mostly have outdoor seating that is under canopies. They also have out door heaters for when it's cooler. The staff are all very sweet and efficient. The food is amazing and comes in large portions. Waitress said manager would deliver our food but he didnt come. Not that we asked to talk to him but still, why offer and not show up. Our yearly tradition is no more. Tried out Fiesta de Reyes with my boyfriend last night. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for on a casual date night. We ordered: - 1800 Margarita (my boyfriend LOVED this) - Steak Tostada - Carne Asada Plate I was impressed by the warm chips and bean dip, but I found the salsa was lacking in spice and overall flavor. My tostada was decent, but I wish it included guacamole and maybe Mexican rice too. The fajita veggies were a great touch that elevated the dish, but it was definitely still missing something. Fiesta de Reyes is bright, festive and has a great outdoor setting located in a quad area with live music playing .. the outdoor seating area is the best but you have to deal with the elements (flies) and has limited indoor seating(which is stuffy). There is parking if you get lucky especially on the weekend. We put our name on the waitlist and it only took thirty minutes to get seated. We had a variety of servers so not sure who was ours but we didn't need anything. We tried the guacamole to start which lacked flavor, a strawberry margarita that tasted like there was no tequila so I ordered a shot to add. We ordered the veggie tacos which were good, the chicken fajitas which were a little dry. We also ordered the tampiquena, however the carne was dry. I had the Tierra de Mar. The bacon wrapped shrimped was extra crispy boarding burnt and the carne asada was dry and well done, I did not finish. We had the deep fried ice cream which was the best part. The waiter next to us hit my daughter twice in the head when passing as he was rushing but come on , you felt the hit and finally said sorry when she said something the second time. Maybe don't cram so many tables together ?? The highest priced item was my meal at $26 so to me is typical price but not good quality food. It is clearly a tourist spot and reminded me of Disneyland with all the people with the tussle and bustle. I've been to this place more times than I can count and it's always tasty! We arrived and were sat pretty quickly. We ordered the Riviera Maya marg which came in a souvenir glass. It was good! We ordered the guac appetizer and had chips and salsa to snack on. We also ordered some of our fresh made tortillas and I asked for butter. They are the absolute BEST! I added butter and a little bit of salt, rolled it up and smiled while eating it. We went back 2 days later while we were still in town from Sacramento and the wait was 15-20 min. We were called up after the 15 min, sat quickly and ordered a sangria (we had already ordered 2 margs from the bar and drank them while waiting!). The sangria was delish. The server was Adriana and she was the best. She was very attentive, super personable and very sweet. We ordered the carnitas platter and it was DELISH! While visiting Old Town San Diego we came into Fiesta De Reyes, Festival of Kings. What an amazing way to spend the evening. Walking through the doorway into court yard you are greeted with the smell of freshly raosted nuts. Thay catch you by giving you a free sample and just like that your hooked. Yes, we bought a couple of bags of nuts and a bag of dried mango with chili. Both were really good. There are lots of shops that offer traditional Mexican merchandice such as clothing, toys, tiles, jewelry, hats, sarapes, and so much more. Bring your credit cards because its not cheap to shop here. Plates and Margarita sets were beautiful and well crafted, thy were very pleasing to the eye. Stores hads lots of christmas ornaments to add to my Mexican chistmas tree. I went with a gourd with a nacimiento inside. It will make a great addition on my tree. If your hungry there are a few restaurantes to chose from that offer, you guessed it, Mexican food and drinks. The atmosphere here was great and very festive with people dinning, conversating, and dancing to the live band that was playing. It looked like everyone, of all ages, was having a good time here. The service was super fast, the servers were nice and very attentive, and the menu had a ton of options. We got an appetizer platter to share, and it had quesadillas, loaded nachos, and taquitos. Okay the ambiance is very fun. There is so much to look at, but the food left so much to be desired. I ordered La bandera de Mexico with three enchiladas. The pork was so salty. I had to mix it with the sour cream so I can eat it. The cheese enchilada was not melted at all and it tasted bland. The chicken enchilada was the best one so I ate that one up. No sour cream necessary, which I don't normally eat because it's not traditional. I barely touched the beans and rice. It was so badly presented. Not appealing at all.
