Skip it--bring your own coffee to the library. The café looks very appealing, and what could be better than a book with a cup of coffee and a pastry or candy? Unfortunately, this isn't the case. The service is super slow, though friendly, and the quality of the beverages is disappointing. Even the presentation is underwhelming--the coffee is served so hot that you can't take a sip, and the thin plastic cup makes it easy to burn your hands. I just grabbed lunch at the tiny Fika Cafe locTed inside the Burlingame Public Library. The chicken on my wrap has a delicious seasoning (cumin? Nutmeg?), and the hummus added a creamy note. I love the woman who owns the cafe too, she is so nice. I don't know how she offers such great variety from the tiniest kitchen on earth. This is definitely a hidden gem. read more

Tiny tiny cafe at the back of the library with bold flavors. The sweet owners make everything from scratch, including the lasagna, falafel, and baklava. Would highly recommend the wraps (the green sauce is fire). They have a few seats inside but also have to-go options. Love these guys! read more

I have very mixed feelings about this cafe. For starters, the coffee was pretty good. I got an iced oat milk latte, which is what I always get at coffee shops. Wasn't outstanding, but wasn't bad either, but I do think it was slightly overpriced. However, the main thing I've seen about this cafe is the waffles, which was what I was really excited for because waffles are one of my favourite foods. When we got the waffles, they were presented beautifully and had a nice golden colour. To our disappointment, the texture was abysmal. The flavour of the waffle itself was fine, but the texture was extremely doughy and chewy, not crispy and fluffy as expected. Overall, not bad, would try again if they improve their recipe. read more

I have just discovered Fika Cafe located in the Burlingame Public Library. Last night I ordered a falafel sandwich and lentil soup. It was so good that I am back today. What makes it good is the chef, Ghada, cooks from scratch using and mixing spices such as mint, turmeric, green onion. She does not use any canned products, all is freshly prepared whole food. She's also friendly and happy that her customers like her food. She offers a variety of teas which complements her food. This hidden gem is worth coming to the library to try even if you are not coming to read a book. read more

Great little cafe inside of the Burlingame Library. They have American food as well as Middle Eastern/Turkish food. The baklava and Turkish coffee are my faves. My friend loves their hot chocolate. Tiny little cafe tucked inside the first floor of the Burlingame Public Library. The library is beautiful and worth a visit on it's own, but I digress. Popped by today and they had homemade honey citron ginger tea for $3.50. Infinitely better than what you'll get from store-bought dried teas, and less expensive than David's Tea down the street. How have I missed sitting down and enjoying this gem of gems? I have been visiting the library at least once a week forever, and until the other day, I paid no attention to this little place. My husband and I ordered Turkish coffee that was made in a real Turkish coffee maker and served in beautiful English china cups. Not only was the coffee superb, we enjoyed the delicious serenity (as opposed to the rave-like atmosphere of places like Joe and the Juice, et al). Delightful owner/cook/barista/hostess, as warm and genuine as they come, consummately friendly without being overbearing. Can't wait to go back and try the lentil soup and the baklava and the many other homemade-with-love-and-an-artist's-touch treats. read more

The library is an awesome place to hang out and they now have this cafe. They have tables so you can actually eat at and drink in the library - unlike the old days. They also have sparkling water which I love and snacks to keep your blood sugar up. The library has very comfortable chairs so after I am done I can go sit there or pick up a book. The coffee was served in lovely china on a decorative copper tray and the baklava had just the right amount of sweetness. Can't say enough good things about this gem of a café. The food is homemade and delicious. And Ghada, the woman who runs it with her husband, is a complete delight. Like a comfort food, the entire experience of chatting with Ghada, ordering and watching her serve it up, and then relishing the homemade wraps, lentil soup, hummus, baklava, Turkish coffee or whatever, is like hanging out in your grandmother's kitchen. I often stop by the library just to enjoy a snack or a meal. Unbelievable! Btw don't know how Yelp determines the $$$ rating, but the confections here range from $2 to about $10. Sooooo good! Good food in a library?! Where would you ever find that? But I have tried everything they have, and it was always beyond expectation. The lentil soup is absolutely delicious. The beef kabob wrap and falafel wap are delicious. And I keep coming back and back and back again for their baklava. And their Indian Chia. Such sweet treats while working in the library.
